Hi,
Any application that I install on the storage card does not run - I get the message 'The program is from an unknown source.....'
Then nothing when I click 'Yes'
the same applications run fine if installed on the main device memory - anyone had any similar problems?
Thanks
I get this message from time to time when the sd card is a little off in the slot... Usually just remove and insert the sd card and it works and sometimes blow into the slot.
Give it a try... maybe it works maybe it wont...
I've been using a 4GB SD card for the past 9 months and never had problems. I recently decided to upgrade to Helmi_c's AKU3.5 ROM which seems real solid but I have noticed one problem...my SD card is changing its name and as such, all links are now missing. They all originally pointed to "Storage Card" and I've found that the SD card is now called "Storage Card 2", hence the missing links.
In looking at it further, I notice that there's a "Storage Card" folder created in main memory with the folders for both the IE cache as well as the inbox storage, both of which were on the card before. I am able to delete this folder and reinsert the card, do a soft reboot and all is back as it was once before...all links and icons working.
I do use Tweaks2K (also on the SD card) for the modification on the registery to make both the IE cache and Inbox storage to go to the SD card. I don't know if it is an issue with the ROM update since it didn't happen on my original AKU3.2 ROM or not. I'd hazzard a guess that the card is not being read when it the Universal turns itself on and not seeing the card, it creates the new "folder" with the IE and Inbox folders, cancelling out the real SD "Storage Card", contributing to my missing icons/program links.
Any one have any thoughts on this or point me in the right direction? I've googled the web and searched this forum but haven't seen an answer or I'm not using the right keywords. Any help or directions would be great as this seems to happen every 3-4 days.
Thanks!!!
Kent
Everytime I install new program to HD2 it asks me if I want to install into main memory or SD card. My PC windows experience says that it is advisable to install programs to main drive (C: usually). Does the same logic apply to WM devices? Or is it safe to install apps into SD card (which would leave more space on actual device)
It's really up to you where you install them. The only things to bear in mind are that the internal storage cannot be expanded, and you can remove the storage card.
The way I do this is to install anything that I think I'll really want to always have at hand on the device (essential apps like coreplayer, nitrogen etc..) That way, if I remove the storage card then my device still has my most favoured apps on it. Anything that I'm not too fussed about (games in my case) goes on the storage card.
It's your call completely, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with installing things on the storage card. In fact, I'd recommend doing it when you're installing non-essential apps so that you save internal storage for things that you don't have a choice with (MarketPlace apps, for example, or tweaks and mods).
Hope this helps mate.
ok, thanks for detailed reply. I will try to install apps to SD card, if that option becomes available during installation process. I am not switching SD cards, so it should be fine then.
one more question that is related to the first one... If I install application on SD card, then if I take the memory card out, put new ROM into phone and insert SD card back. Will applications run as before installing new ROM? Are all program files saved to SD card when installing or does it do some registry entries or save some files onto maine phone memory???
In my old JasJam I found that programs loaded faster when stored on the device storage as opposed to the SD card.
Is this the same on the HD2?
If you upgrade ROM then you will need to do a backup first then restore afterwards otherwise you will lose everything including the links to the programs on the SD Card (although the programs will still be there).
I use SPB backup to do this. It works well. I used it yesterday after I upgraded my O2 V1.43 ROM to HTC 1.66. The restore worked great
All Micro D cards aren't the same I paid a bit more and got a Class 6(fastest) 16GB card. Class 2 is the slowest.
I hope this helps?
Things to remember
SD card usage eats battery.
SD card usage is slower than phone mem.
SD card usage can cause conflicts and freezes.
SD card usage creates app associations that really should not be carried over to new ROM flashes.
Installation to phone mem gives smoother and more stable operation of phone.
You have plenty of on phone storage space so why not use it?
Links to apps gone
i have loads of applications on my SD card for my HD2 but when i reset it i lost all the links to them so now the only way to get to them is to go to the file explorer but i dont have any icons anywhere else on my phone, any suggestions?
Either reinstall the apps, or simply browse to the executables, copy, and paste as shortcut in \windows\start menu.
i download an app and move it to my sd card. i open es file explorer and install the app. ok the app is installed. but the app is installed in the phone memory, i dont want that coz its already low, so i go to manage apps and go to the app i just installed an the move to sd card is greyed out. this happens everytime i put a app or game on sd card and install it. whereas if i download something from market i have the option to move to sd card r it has been already installed to sd card.
im u usin hd2 using this rom:

any help coz the phone memory is going very low
There's various apps for handling moving stuff to the SD card, or defaulting to install there, but I personally use Titanium Backup because I use it for other stuff too. There's an option in batch options to move every non-system app to the SD card.
That's never failed for me.
Keep in mind though that some apps don't work once you've moved them to the SD card. It's a pain, but you have to move some of them back to the phone. You can do this using the method you described above. Once they're on the SD card, the option to move them says "move to phone" and is no longer disabled.
I just noticed that my 1.46Gb microSD partition only has 697Mb available (I think it was 1.20Gb after I first installed 7720) and haven't installed anything of note so I was trying to see what was up with TouchXplorer but can't see any "SD Card" directory even after activating "Storage Lock". Any pointers on how to do that? Thanks!
