Hi
I'm looking for an app similar to wavesecure. So far I've found,
Mobile Defence (USA only unfortunately), iTag, PEST and Lookout.
Does anyone have any experience of these? I'm hoping Mobile Defense launches globally soon
Just saw a news article on Lookout https://www.mylookout.com/
Its free and looks good, testing now
I have used Lookout, and i must say i was really impressed when i tried to locate my mobile. Took only about a minute and a half before it found it. Also the noise it can emit when required is amazing. Great if you lost your phone somewhere in your room!

Thanks for that.... using it and it's running great so far.
preyproject.com
Works for Android and for Mac/Windows Laptops. Manage both of mine using it.
I currently have "Mobile Defense" on my Droid 1. Luckly I have never needed to use it, however its nice knowing I am protected incase my phone is lost or stolen.
My question is, I have essentially a wifi only (I got in on the 25% off deal) Xoom, and want to make sure it is protected too. I realize without it having 3G may make it difficult when its not connected to wifi. What is a good program to use, similar to Mobile Defense? Does the gps need internet connection to work properly, if someone did steal it and it wasnt connected to wifi?
The gps will work fine, but without internet it won't be able to report back where it is.

I know they're a lot of people wondering like myself.. What do you guys think is the best video chat app currently out that works best for our phones... I use to love Tango but it stopped working for me and my Wife's Epic.. of course its been a few months since I used it.. But which do you think is the best? I figured I would ask before throwing another 10 apps on my phone for testing. Also what roms are you running with it?
Thanks

Let me break it down:
Here is a list of the video call apps that I know to be available. If i'm missing one, let me know. I'd love to try it out:
Tango (Android/iPoop) - I'm going to assume this is the most popular. Video quality seems to be pretty good. I do have some occasional feedback issues with audio, but that comes and goes. The latest version of Tango FC'd everytime I opened it, but luckily for me, I had the version right before the update backed up, so I'm still in business.
Fring (Android/iPoop) - This was the first app I used for video calls. It did the job. I haven't used it in a while, and I know they've improved on it. I switched to Tango because everyone I knew was using it.
Qik (Android/iPoop) - I've never used Qik. At first it didn't support iPoop, and that was the only people I had to talk to via video call. Friends i've spoken with that use it don't seem to prefer it over any of the other solutions, so I haven't really had the urge to try it myself.
Yahoo Messenger (Android/iPoop/PC) - I've had mixed results with Yahoo. It seems to work pretty well for the most part, and is useful when chatting phone to PC as it's simple and alot of people already have a yahoo ID. The only issue I had with it was the video was always tilted sideways no matter which way I held my phone...
Google Talk (Android/PC) - I went down this road when I tried the leaked Gingerbread ROM. I had high hopes, but this was pretty much unuseable for me. I was able to connect, but video was too choppy at best. I'm positive this will improve in the future, but as of today, I don't recommend it.
ooVoo (Android/iPoop/PC) - This is an interesting app. It allows conference calling, so you can actually carry on video calls simultaneously with more than one user. I used this shortly and tested it for a phone to PC call and it seemed to be pretty decent. I'd have to give it a little more time and testing, but my first impression was that it did the job pretty well.
Skype (Android/iPoop/PC) - I know this one is new. I think there's a thread if you want to try to get this to work on your phone. Haven't tried it... can't really speak on it. I would check out the thread if you're interested. I'm sure there's feedback there.
As with everything on this community, YMMV. And keep in mind, all of my opinions are based on using the app with a wi-fi connection, so if you're going with 3g or 4g, you'll just have to test what's out there and see what gives you the best quality call. I hope this helps at least a little bit.
If nothing else, it'll at least give you some options to try.
I just used a modded skype for froyo over 4g and it worked beautifully except for the fact that I was sideways on my friends comp.
It was mad clear! He also said I was laggy a bit but I blame that on the 4g. I haven't tried wifi.
You can try it. When you go to the thread about skype 2.0 in the themes and app section, click the link that talks about the sgs2 or w/e and then there will be another link where the author says "TRY THIS ONE FOR FROYO"
That's the one ^_^

Well, Skype owns QIK so hopefully there will be some crossover pretty soon. Trouble is, even if it's the best program in the world it doesn't matter if your friends aren't using it. Skype is the one everyone else in the PC world seems to use, so now that it'll work on android, that's the one for me.

That was my exact outlook and why I went with skype lol
Before that I used tango which was excellent...but not everyone knew of it...but it was always fun to see the random people in my contact list who had it lol

I've been using Skype and even 3G, which all I have, was way better than QIK, Tango, or anything else that I have tried
Is there a confirmation that this works for the a500? I know it's shown as incompatible in the market, but we all know how spotty that prediction usually is... Also, anyone care to post the .apk?
Here it is. I haven't tried it on my A500, but have installed it on my Infuse. It is definitely a beta.
Thete is a better spp that I use on my evo. Its called vlingo. So much better then iris.
I think the point of Iris is just to make fun of siri

I just checked on the web market and it shows as being compatible with my A500. I'm stock unrooted 3.2 at the moment. I'm gonna download it and see if it works.
EDIT: It works, both on my A500 and on my HTC Inspire, but its pretty buggy. After about 20 uses, it messed up and stopped working. When it was working, it worked well though. Get some bugs worked out and it may be a pretty cool little app. Sort of like voice dialer and cleverbot rolled into one.
Hello! I am trying to find alternate app for using infared remote on sgs4. I have WatchOn app and used it. But want more app.. like real universal remote, customize remote, customize all codes in one like Logitech Harmony have, and more brand/model codes. I kept finding app that works with wifi only or bluetooth. So, I came here to post and more collect info. with your help would be great to find more apps that works with SGS4 IR. Thanks!

It works. Was out last night and was messing with the tv's at the bar. Makes me feel like a middle school kid all over again. I wonder how much chaos this will create once more people get this phone.
Sweet looking app. Thanks for pointing it out.

If I was going to try and do an equivalent to the Logitech Harmony than this app is going to be your best bet imo:
Touchsquid Pro
Has full S4 support. It will do way more than any other remote app and let you set up macros, complex switching, and customizable layout. They offer a low priced trial as well to test it out.
I thought ten dollars was expensive for an app, but fifty?! I've seen more expensive stuff in the app store when I had an iPhone. I might have seen GPS programs that were more expensive on the android side. Still, I don't want the app bad enough to pay fifty bucks for it.

You have to put it in perspective. If you have a tablet with IR and pay the $50 for the app it will turn that tablet into a remote that normally you would have to pay $200 - $500 for, maybe more. I paid $149 for my refurbed Harmony One remote and the app paired with a compatible device will do more. Only thing it would be lacking is RF capability.
And it can't learn on s4's because they don't have an ir receiver.
I'm loving the $10 app. It saves every device you set up and allows you to build custom composite remotes using pieces from multiple devices. It has macros but I have yet to try it.
As far as i am concerned just the wow factor of being able to change the channel in a bar while a isheep scratches his head makes it all worth it

Sony Tablet S does, it have IR receiver. I was hoping if it does same on s4.

It is possible that developer can use front/rear camera to read IR remote and it can be learn. Look this app name 'Tester IR Remote Control"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.inforbit.remotecontrol
Someone will figure it out to put that feature in IR app.
Edited:
Learned that use your camera into negative effect, then you will see infrared light.
I don't know about this phone but most cameras have ir filters on the lens. I might be wrong but I highly doubt a camera could be used instead of an ir receiver. Cameras are set up to be used in the visual light spectrum, not above or below the frequency spectrum.
