Android and HTC music players - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

im not sure this is the correct thread but im running into an annoyance.
im using an HD2 with the Energy Android rom.
playing mp3s with the Android and HTC music players has 2 problems..
1. it plays every file on the phone, even ringtones.
2. it messes up the album artwork and every song gets the same art. even tho most of the songs i have on my phone have embedded artwork.
any ideas how to fix this?
i would love to be able to flip to the music player widget and play my mp3s.

im havn almost the same problem i just want to hear only my mp3's not all my audio files any hav any ideas the ones i found on google didnt help i also tried to search it and got nothing please help us figure out how to play only music with the htc music player and not all audio files

Try inserting an empty file with filename '.nomedia' in the folders where your ringtones (or any other audio you don't want) are, they should be excluded from the music player.
Dunno about the artwork though

How do I create a file with no name? .nomedia appears as just an extention to windows.

I use the cubed (3) music player as my default music file player. It works well although it is buggy in 1.5 on my Backflip.

This seems to be an issue of Sense music player period as you notice the Windows version does that too. I use Mixzing from the market that gives you the option of what folder to scan for music, as for the .nomedia file I would assume start with a blank text file and change the extension to .nomedia?

Use Gallery Enabler from Marketplace

In the Sense builds such as MattC's does anyone know how to replace or remove the HTC player with the Android one.
The Android one I used in Darkstone builds (I believe) supported landscape mode switching of albums with cover-art and also finger gestures to move tracks.... this was really useful in the car.

I second the Mixzing player, I'm using the free version and it works better than any winmo player I could find. All you problems go away.

Music Folder on MT3G

Just curious, is there a certain folder I need to place my music files in to play on my player? Everytime I go to music, it grabs all the files from notifications and my ringtones folders!! Is there a easier way to play my music?
Regarding Music...
Can anyone help me out??
Personally I don't use the stock music player for that very reason. Check out an app from the marketplace callled MixZing Lite (it's free.) It has the ability to monitor a specific folder for music and also comes with a pretty slick widget.
You can created a blank file called .nomedia (notice the dot at the front) in your ringtones folder which will stop the Media service (Gallery and Music) from searching in there for files. I have not tested if this will break ringtone searching, so give it a go and just delete your new .nomedia file if all your stuff disappears from ringtones.
You also may be interested to know if you call your album covers AlbumArt.jpg then they will appear in music player when a song from that album is playing, but Gallery will not index them and take a thousand years to load cos of all the covers called different names in different folders.

Music?

what is the folder structure under which you put the music. It should look something like this:
\Storage Card\Music\Offspring - Americana
\Storage Card\Music\Offspring - The Offspring
\Storage Card\Music\Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon
A folder for each album under a general "Music" folder...
MUSIC
I just made a folder in my Storage Card and called it "Music" obviously without the quotes and used a Micro sd Adapter and put the card reader thingy into my laptop like a usb and transfered over my music. I have a bout 5GB of music and when i when to the music tab it said searching and found all my songs.!?
I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, (please be more specific if this isn't what you're talking about).
When you select a song to play, how are you selecting it?
If you go to Artists or Albums, it will only play the songs under the respective artist or album.
If you go to Library>All Songs and then press on a song, it should then play all songs. Is this what you're doing? What happens when you do this?
Do any of your music players freeze?
I have had it freezing once I loaded about 4gb of music onto it.
Storage Card\Music\*.*
I know just what he means. In the music tab you get the album view which is pretty useless/cumbersome, so, instead of playing music from there, he's going into "Library" and then possibly Artists>Album>SongName. Problem is, when you do that, HTC's music player creates a new (temporary) playlist with only that one song, so, if you want to skip to another song, you have to go back to Artists>Album>etc...
With HTC's player, you HAVE to create playlists to get the most out of it (or just stick with the default "All Songs" playlist (painful if you have over 1,000 songs because, again, of the lame UI for the music player)) and just switch playlists as you go.
Is there any way to get the HTC media player sort the albums in landscape mode to Artist then album like how its sorted in an ipod touch or iphone?

When i uploaded 6 gb of music all in different folders, the player showed it to me all in one giant list, is this going to fix the problem, or do i have to do something else?

The player can show it to you listed by album, artist, genre, or composer...just use the slider when in "library" view. However, this is dependent on the ID3 tags on your music files being filled in correctly...
Is there a way to create ID3 tags for all my music based on folders?
I don't care about the albums as long as i can have folders and not a one giant list of mp3's

mp3/video recognition?

I am sorry if this was mentioned before, I did search but found too many misleading threads.
I have an 8gb class 6 microsd, I created a music folder and loaded a few mp3s to test out on Meridian Player and MixZing. Both media players did not find any of my music, and I could not find the files I just added using the File Manager.
I'm confused, as when I connect to my PC via USB, I see the files. But they don't appear on the device?

Hmm haven't tried Froyo or Meridian/MixZing (actually I may have lol). I've got Eclaire and have used the default and 3 (cubed) music players. So far I've had no problems.
I've got Eclaire in the root of my sdcard and my music in:
***root sdcard***\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Where did you create your music folder?
Does doing something similar for Froyo work?- say:
Froyo in: ***root sdcard***\Android
Music in: ***root sdcard***\Android\Music

I've tried to create them in the root and in Android\music. It just seems to have a very difficult time recognizing any files I put on the SDcard.

Seems like a Froyo Stock Music App bug as I have the same problem on Stock Builds. Sense builds and the HTC Music App does not have this problem so it has something to do with the way Froyo indexes music files.
I have tried sdrescan, scanmedia (both free apps in the market) and it won't detect all the music in stock Froyo builds.
You could try MortPlayer, as it indexes all your folders when it starts... haven't had luck with it though as it keeps FC'ing on me
I was able to transfer 3 songs over and have it opened through my File Manager app. It took over 6 tries for the SD card to actually read the files. When I would add files, File Manager would show them as 0 KB. I got lucky with these 3 mp3s but haven't been able to consistently add songs.

Hmmm, so other music players use Froyo's indexing service while HTC player and MortPlayer don't?

Yes. That's what its looking like. no amount of sdrescan's will reveal all my music files, unfortunately.
For those of you who don't have this problem, where do you store your Music Files?

Idd, so either use mp3's with proper tags, or use these players.
Or use "Music Player" from Social Soft, it can tag/id mp3's.
im having a similar problem, i have over 300 songs but i can only find 20 in the music player but on sense builds (2.1+2.2) it finds all of my music
Tagging isn't the problem... Froyo seems to have a bug re: indexing music... no amot of scan or rescan will reveal ALL the music in the Music App or any app that relies on the Music App's indexing (doubletwist, tunewiki, mixzing, etc....)
Sense music player uses its own indexing since in Sense builds the Stock Music App is usually not included.
MortPlayer would have done the job since it indexes per folder but it keeps on crashing on my install. (shubcraft v1.1)

Problems with the included HTC Music Player

The included HTC Music Player (latest stock TMOUSA ROM) seems to have serious problems with its database.
Of course there are other options--such as the included Windows Media Player, and freeware solutions as TCPMP, commercial music players, etc.
But I like the HTC Music Player, how it plays from your home screen.
I like what happens when one turns the phone landscape, and sees a shuffle of album covers. Is that a gimmick? Yes, but I like it. Kind of fun to choose an album that way, like shuffling through CDs at home, rather than from a list like in WMP.
Yet, the app seems to have serious problems with its database. Although I have tons of music on it (more than 10 GB, all on the storage card), sometimes it cannot see any music at all.
Sometimes it shows no cover art (which is especially crucial for that album shuffle view), although the cover art is embedded in each song, and if one looks at the .vin file that HTCMP put in the folder, the cover art is there too, put there by the app. But somehow, it often doesn't read it. I do the "download cover art" thing, it shows a connection to Gracenote, but some albums never display their cover art, although it is already right there embedded in each song on the album.
What is going on with this app and its database?
Ia there any fix for it?
Is HTC aware of the problem, and working on a fix?
------------------------
While discussing the HTC Music Player, one other thing I am curious about. The phone also includes an HTC Video Player, in the windows folder, but with no link in the start menu to it, so most people will never discover it. (They do call that video player, though, to play the included "Transformers" movies, rather than WMP.) Why did they include their own video player, yet not even have a start menu item for it? Does it have any advantage over WMP for playing video?

As far as the data base goes it has a problem reading large amounts of music. Still on the stock SD card? Is HTC aware of this.....Most likely as it has been a prob from the start, is there a fix....not that I have found. The video player works from the albums tab as it pics up the movies and displays them in that tab.

Yes, I use the stock 16GB SD card. Why? Is there a problem with that?
It is unfortunate, since that album art landscape thing is so cool, yet the HTC Music Player does not see the cover art of many albums, although it itself has created the .vin file in each folder, which is a renamed .jpg of the correct art.
And sometimes it cannot find any music!
I sure wish there would be a fix.
No registry fix or anything, that will help it?

No there really isnt a prob with the stock SD card except it is a class 2 card so it reads and writes slowly, alot of my issues were fixed when I got a 16gb class 6 off ebay. Make sure all your music is in this format, Artist\album. the album art is handled my the id3 tags so make sure those are all set right. there should be 5 .jpg files in each album folder. I have uploaded a folder with the album jpeg files for you to compare yours to so hope it helps
Thanks. I am downloading your 7z file, and will take a look at it. I have only seen one .jpg in each album folder, which the HTC audio database renames to .vin extension.
Most of the time, that ,jpg is the correct album art for that album. Funny thing is, even so, with many albums the cover art does not display.
I have found a solution (in another thread here) to the problem of when one opens the HTC Music Player, go landscape to see all the albums, and it says something like "no music found", then starts a long search for your music.
It seems like the app forgets its databse every time you reboot the phone. Then when you start the music app, and click anything needing access to the library, it then starts searching for your music to put in the db.
If you add a link to the audio manager file (something like audiomanager_en.exe (in the Windows folder) to your \Windows\Startup folder, that will make it recreate the database on startup, so it will be ready when you want to play some music.
Seems an unnecessary waste of memory and boot time though, to have to do that. You don't need to do that with WMP. It remembers its database, and is there and ready when you use it. If you have added music, you can click rebuild library, and it will then rebuild it. But it does not need to rebuild after every reboot.
Makes me think of stopping the use of the HTC music player altogether, and just use WMP or alternatives like TCPMP and Mort. (Although the latter two don't use library at all, don't know why, just files and play lists.)
But there are nice things about the HTC Music Player--its integration into Sense, and that cool landscape cover art thing. I just wish they would fix the bugs, and get it working properly! (Anyone know if HTC will issue an update for the music player?)

Just looked at your .7z file. As you say, there are five album art .jpgs inside that folder.
It makes me wonder--what phone are you using? I think your HTC Music Player is different than mine.
The Music Player on my phone only creates one .jpg cover art file inside each of all my music folders, including those that work in showing cover art, and those that don't. (I guess it looks at the art embedded in the music file tags, and extracts the cover art in a separate file. It is a .jpg file, but renamed with the extension .vin.
Five cover art files, as exists in your folder, is non-existent on the TMOUSA HD2.
Funny thing too---In albums that do not show the cover art in the music player app, the .vin file the app created inside the album's folder--is still usually the correct album cover art. So the app can read the cover art embedded in the music files, creates its one folder ,jpg renamed .vin for the art, but still does not display it in the app.
Hey HTC, fix this app!
I wonder if it might have something to do with the resolution of the cover art?
While it might be able to read all cover art, and make the corresponding .vin (.jpg) file of it in the folder, the app only displays cover art that is in a certain pixel resolution, or a certain range of resolutions?
Could that be why some cover art displays, and others do not?
Anyone know?
I was using the HD 2. I copied the folders from my music file on my pc to my phone. so that may be the reason for the extra image files. but as it always showed the album art I left them there
HTC audio manager shuffle problem
Hi Guys,
This old issue is still unsolved on the last update 3.14, and it is really driving me crazy.
Have you been able to solve it?
Have anyone tried the latest OBOE 1.18 files?

[Q] Vibrant Music Player Help

Hi, my vibrant is mainly used for an mp3 player...In music player..I keep seeing EVERY mp3 i have on the phone..I have my music/podcast mp3s, plus my ring tones...is there a way to not have my ring tones (located btw in their OWN directory on the phone [under "[rings] ] keep showing up in my music player??..also I have a lot of podcasts loaded..(again as for everything in their own dedicated directory on the phone (under media/audio)...to be exact...podcasts are under T-Man... (these files have no ID3 tags, so they show up as UNKNOWN...fine...but why can't I change this directory's name and add a thumbnail pic? next I have mixshow mp3's by diff dj's...all in their respective folders.. as an example..1 dj's mp3's I added album art through winamp and saved the id3, copied to phone....nothing...still shows a stock music player img...what am I doing wrong? help me out please ...
PS. Tried Player Pro, which somehow added thumbs to some of my podcasts/mixshows..which had nothing to do with the content...deleted the app, thumbs remained...
Find the folder that's giving you the mp3 and add a dot a the begining, example .test that way the music player won't look in the there to get music
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
in each folder that is showing up in your music folder add a file .nomedia ...the music player will not scan that folder for music
as far as album art try a app called album art grabber...it's free in the market
