[Q] "No sim card" after rooting and flashing radio - G1 General

I just got my G1 today, and promptly rooted it using the guide at cyanogen's wiki page.
Following said guide, I wasn't quite clear on what to do after accessing Telnet, since How-To guide here has you enter several commands to change the recovery image. So I followed the guide on XDA, and used the Amon Ra image, and flashed 2.22.23.02. It went successfully and now appears in About Phone, but now it says "No sim card". I've reinserted the sim card, and the message is still displayed.
What do I do, or what did I do wrong? I haven't found a single instance of this problem on google or this site, which worries me. Do I need to just update to Cyanogen 6?
EDIT: OK, I just installed HardSPL, since I thought it was the same as the Radio (I know now that's wrong). Now it's working. Derp.

recently rooted phone, troubles installing roms

I've been reading these forums for quite some time folowing H's and JF's builds and just seeing what the devolping community has been up to.
I've been wanting to root my g1 for some time but didnt ever make the jump till now. I read through the Helpful Thread / Build Round up started with in the beginning there was root as well as the How-to- Root, Hack, and Flashing your G1/Dream and decided i could do it. i followed all of hte steps with ease. had my phone rooted within 20 minutes the first thing i wanted to do was to get a new rom with cupcake but i also wanted to be sure not to mess it up so i read through nandroid and was a bit confused as to what all was needed so i figured the recovery img that the tutorial gave was fine since everything i had done was no problem. i then went to H's ion thread and saw that i needed a differen spl so i went and read about those and decided with hardspl got that applied no problem. i downloaded the ion rom renamed it to update.zip put it on my card and loaded up recovery mode pressed alt+s to apply it and everything went fine till it hung at the 2nd boot screen. a little disheartened i went into the spl using camera+power and flashed the recovery img. i read around the forums seeing if i did anything wrong and couldnt figure it out so i tried a different rom this time one of Jf's early roms i think it was rc33 i tried to apply that but i got a no signature verication failed at the recovery screen so i tried some others. JF's 1.51 and same problem. i read around some more and thought maybe it was because i didnt do alt+W so i tried that with JF's roms and both of the leaked hero roms (i know hero is extremely unstable but i just wanted to see if something entirely differnt would work.) by this time i go into the spl again and saw that the hard spl wasnt loaded any more (i guess the recovery img changes that) i reloaded the recovery img once more and tried to install a the 2nd Ion rom with H's root apps and still the same problem.
i really try to read and search before posting but after 4 hours of nothing i really just want some help. if someone could help me get a working rom on my phone preferably H's new Ion rom and tell me what im doing wrong i'd be endlessly great full.
Im guessing what happend was you did the switch of releasekeys to testkeys and then later redid the DREAIMG.nbh. If so you need to redo the steps involving testkeys. This is why it gives the no signature verification error.
In fact id suggest redoing the whole root process again. starting with the DREAIMG.nbh.

Questions about rooting htc magic

Hi, I've recently bought a HTC Magic and since then I've been reading into how to root my phone. Before I start I would like to know if it's possible on my phone.
Details:
HTC Magic Vodafone Uk (32B)
Hboot: 1.33.0007
Firmware version: 1.5
Build: CRC24
I've read from a thread in another section of this forum
that it would be impossible because of 1.33.0007 being a perfect spl BUT my phone is running the firmware version 1.5, with a CRC24 build. Would this mean I will be able to root my phone or not?
Also I've been reading up on how you either have cupcake or donut. My version is 1.5 so would that mean I have cupcake?
I'm worried that I might brick my phone so would prefer to use the one click tutorial at theunlockr (would add link but I can't) which is for htc magic running on cupcake.
Would it work?
Sorry for all my questions and I probably will end up asking more
Thanks if anyone can answer these for me!
You should be able to root using the relentless rooter or by following the guide on the unlockr. You are lucky you are running cupcake and don't need to downgrade
I think you are only really at risk when you flash radio and spl. Using the unlockr's stuff shouldn't be too bad. But read eveerything a bajillion times incase
same boat
Hey bunnybag
Was in the same boat as you until yesterday.
Also had a perfect SPL (0010) on a 32A.
I was also reading up a lot wrt getting a new ROM on my phone, and was also afraid of bricking it...
The gold-card method seemed quite involved, and that QMAT application doesn't exist anymore, and the newer version of it, does not run in XP or Vista...
Yesterday, I used the one click method from theunlockr, and after a few mistakes, it worked! Now I have a shiny CyanogenMod running with a 1.6 donut
It seems with the one click method -that you do not need to change the radio or SPL (which I guess are the most dangerous flashes to attempt)
Quicky summary of what I did, and where I deviated:
1) Read the one click method from theunlocker, and some of the comments at the bottom. Also - very importantly - watch the YouTube video at the top of the one click method page a few times!!
2) Downloaded the FlashRec apk (follow link on the one click method's page)
3) Installed FlashRec (the latest version of FlashRec looks slightly different to the one in the YouTube video but functions the same)
4) Did a backup of the existing recovery image via FlashRec. After the backup, you can copy the backed up .img to your PC...
5) Copied the latest Amon RA recovery image (v1.5.2) onto the SD card. Make sure you get the right one... there is a different one for 32A/32B... [Deviation from the one click method- which uses an older version of the RA recovery image]
6) Attempted to flash the new RA recovery via FlashRec. Here is where I struck a problem - the thing just stalled - for a good 10mins - and said 'do not interrupt' :|
I hooked up the USB cable, and from the command prompt ran: adb catlog
From here, scrolling up, I could see that FlashRec gave some message of invalid recovery image... Bit of a bummer - I checked the CRCs of the recovery image after copying it to the SD, and also tripple-checked the filename I typed into FlashRec! In the one click method page, they also warn about inadvertently adding spaces to the end of the filename when you type it in. I also checked for that.
I attempted it once more as follows:
-Rebooted phone
-Deleted the RA recovery .img from the SD
-Re-copied it onto the SD, and this time renamed it to something easy: ra.img
-Checked the CRC
-Ran FlashRec, and specified the path as: sdcard/ra.img
-Flash succeeded! maybe FlashRec can't handle very long file names?
7) After the recovery was flashed, I booted into recovery mode (HOME & POWER). Seems like the Amon RA recovery image takes slightly longer to boot that the stock recovery... so - don't crap yourself if it takes a few seconds. This is also a good point to stop, and watch the second video from theunclockr on how to load a new ROM...
8) After verifying that the new recovery image was working I booted back into Android, and I copied my ROM's files onto the SD. I used the Cyanogen Mod. The Cyanogen wiki has a page on how to load it for a 32A and also 32B.
Basically, you need the latest stable cyanogen mod, an Android 1.6 "defanged" ROM (link available on the Cyanogen wiki), and a new kernel. The kernel is 32A/32B specific, so get the right one.
9) With the 3 files on the SD, I booted back into the new RA recovery I just flashed.
10) Did a Nandroid backup
11) Did a wipe/factory reset [Deviation from theunlockr method: I did not format my SD card, or partition it into Ext & Swap. I prefer not to have a Swap partition on the SD, nor do I think I'll need to swap any apps out to the SD card... I think the 32A has enough space... you can read further about it in the xda-developers wiki, under page: HTC_Sapphire_Hacking_2]
12) Still in RA recovery, I applied (in order) a) the defanged 1.6 ROM, b) the Cyanogen mod, c) the new 32A kernel
13) Flashing it takes a while - there is a progress bar...
14) Reboot after all 3 were flashed. The first reboot takes a looong time... couple of minutes... don't worry, or try to reboot again... just give it time.
15) Once inside - tested everything: GPS, Wifi, Phone, Market, G-sensor, Gtalk, Gmail.
16) It might be worth while to note that once the phone is booted, and you've entered your SIM PIN, and the Android desktop is displayed, it can still take a few seconds - 4 or 5 I guess, before you are able to interact (swipe desktop left/right). Give it time to settle down, and all is well
//TODO: still need to flash a new splash-image...
Good luck - post back here with your results!
How to root Magic (32A) with Europe ROM ROM Version:3.05.401.3 with Sense?
Have somebody any idea, how to root Magic (32A) with Europe ROM Version:3.05.401.3 with Sense? Thanks!

Ah, I tried using the unlockr's method and failed at flashrec. The unlockr kept saying that the reason was because I was already on Donuts but that is not true. I ended up using the relentless rooter software (looking back, his method is basically an automation of the original method).
Maybe you should post this also in the unlockr so that people who have "backup failed" messages know what to do?
Thanks for the info. It will be very helpful for other members trying to use the unlockr method.
Thanks for the post guys.
@bogo_mips: Great advice and I'll more than likely use this along with the unlockr one click tutorial.
Oh and there's one thing I'm worried about. My phone has somehow automatically downloaded the 1.6 upgrade and it keeps asking me to install it. Anyone know of a way to delete it so that it won't upgrade?
I'm worried that it might install if I turn my phone off.
@bunnybag: that 1.6 download sounds like a problem... if it takes, you'll no longer be able to do to the one-click method...
Check around the forum for advice. I'd guess - since the download would have had to happen in user-space, that the downloaded file might be sitting on the SD card or possibly the phone's flash. Get that Linda Filemanager app from the market and poke around... I guess if you could find the file, and delete / rename it - you could avert an install?
Alternativley, I'm guessing that if you can attempt the one-click method, that you'll have a new recovery image before you power down your phone, so - I think that will keep you safe...
@visitador02: according to the FlashRec page, there are 1.5 cupcakes out there which have been patched, so - FlashRec can't work on them... maybe that is what happened to you...

Can't get CID for goldcard

I flashed the wrong recovery for my mytouch3g 1.2 and can't get past the mytouch screen the phone was already rooted. I was updating to a new recovery and realized after I flashed it was the wrong recovery. I can still boot into fastboot mode but I am locked from uploading the correct recovery. So I need to make a new gold card to root the phone again to flash the correct recovery but I am unable to get the CID# to make a new gold card is there another way to accomplish this? I was testing a new ROM when I flashed a the recovery that's way the phone wont boot.
If you posted this in the correct thread you would get more responses.
I moved it to General for you because this has nothing to do with the development of roms.
Im in the same boat - Someone help?
I asked a friend to let me borrow their android phone>> I installed terminal, popped in my SD card and pulled the CID. --- Know anyone with an Android phone? My best solution for ya.
Did it work for you?
Yes, I installed terminal on my friend's phone from Market - booted her phone with my SD card, ran the cat command and pulled the CID. --- Had even more fun getting the Hex formatting to work on my Gold card... but I finally got my phone up and running again. Good Luck and if I can help let me know. the unlckr GoldCard instructions were the most concise. Then Amon_RA's posts were the best.

HTC Magic Rooting - Which Procedure??

Ok, i just want to say hello to all members, and i hope you'll be abe to help me.
I have HTC Magic with these specifications:
SAPHHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S ON H
HBOOT 1 76 2009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD 12
RADIO 6 35 08 29
Dec 8 2009 17 38 48
Firmware ver 1 5
Kernel Version 2 6 27 5b476e83 htc kernel and18 2 989
Build Number 3 05 401 3 CL 98222 release keys (coulndt put dots between number again, because I'm new user)
I have downloaded and installed the HTC Sense update on this phone few months ago. (I couldn't download the Sense update from the HTC site with my phone's serial number that i entered, instead I found and downloaded the update here on the forum, that someone posted.)
Before the update, my phone SPL was 1 33 something and radio was 2 22 something if I remember correctly.
I have tried this:
How to root the HTC magic in one click guide on unlockr site (cannot provide you the link cause i'm a noob user and cand post links
I wanted to do the rooting the easy way but it was a "no go" i guess
With the FlashRec.apk application couldn't get past the "backup failed" message, because of the SPL i guess??
Then i tried this, because the first article said at the and that i need to unroot the phone with this guide "how to unroot your mytouch 3g" guide also from unlockr site.
I downloaded the sappimg NBH file from the provided link and put it in the root of the SD card, tried the fastboot (volume down + power button) but i could flash the phone, got the "wrong main version" message.
At the end of the article it says that the known issue is
"Issue: Phone says that the wrong Main Version is Older or Wrong Model ID"
and that the solution is:
"Solution: Use our Goldcard Method instead."
I am going to buy a gold card tomorrow, and i would be very thankful if you could point me into the right direction and give me some explanations and hints what should i do next, considering that i have a very "root unfriendly" versions of SPL and Radio. All help is appreciated.
You don't buy a gold card, you make one with an ordinary microsd card and some software you download. Here are instrucitons to get you started:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
And since the Wiki is down, go to this thread and follow those instructions.
Ok, guys, i made the Goldcard, according to the instructions on the unlockr site, and everything seems ok. I get the problem when i try to load SAPPIMG file from HBOOT, it picks up the sappimg file and start loading it but does not ask me to flash or anything similar, just finishes the process of checking and stays in the HBOOT screen, like nothing happened. Could this be because of a 1.76.0009 perfected SPL that my Magic has? Can my magic be even rooted?
I have done the Goldcard rooting method on the unlockr site, just for the info.
It should tell you to push "action" to continue after it checks the sappimg, with the "action" being to push the trackball.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
I've made it. It's rooted now.
Used instructions for rooting 1.76.0009, from Orange_24 (whom i thank soooo much)
I have installed Amon_RA's recovery image RA-sapphire-v1.6.2H.
I am still having problems.
I can't install [32a][3.22][6.35] CM6 - FroyoRedux Mod v1.5 (08/01/2010) Froyo Supreme ROM. I start recovery mode (home + power) button, and start Flash Zip form sdcard (i previously copied the CM6-FroyoRedux-v1.5-32a-blk.zip file to the sdcard root) and I always get the "verification failed" message" and that some file is corrupted (it's not the same file always).
My SPL and Radio now are:
SAPHHIRE PVT 32A ENG S OFF H
HBOOT 1.76.2007 (SAPP10000)
6.35.xxx
Check that the ZIP file was downloaded correctly and that your SD card isn't broken. Best way to check would be to copy a file on your card and check if it has the same MD5 sum as on the computer.
God da*n it!
Why do I have problems every step of the way!!??
I have checked the MD5 and managed to install the ROM. Now i'm stuck at the infinite boot screen. Please help, i'm really running out of patience. (I have made Nand backup and stored it on my PC if all else fails).
Don't get me wrong, but from this little experience that i have until now i got the feeling that the rooting concept is just too cumbersome and that all this problems and inconsitencies are the reason why many people never let them selves into the rooting thing. I just hope the reward will be proportional to the amount of problems that an average ROOT beginner user comes in contact for the first time.
PLEASE HELP THIS IS URGENT!!!
I might have bricked my phone. After succesfull install of CM6, my phone went to boot loop, so i tried to NAND restrore my phone. I got the error message to do the NAND restore. I got the error message, saying that to do it from the adb. I didnt know how to do it, so i tried to put some other ROM, just to get the phone working. I tried with the Amon RA's clean donut ROM. Also got the infinite boot. So i tried other recovery, the recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H, flashed it through recovery adb and got the sporadic restarts after flashing when i go into the recovery mode.
After that i flashed the recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img from fastboot because this recovery is mentioned on the unlockr site instructions on how to install custom ROM. Now i cant get into recovery mode, and cant flash none of the above mentioned recoveries from fastboot.
I really need help and information is my phone bricked. Please, i have been on my computer for the whole weekend, messing around with my android phone.
ill look into wut u can do..
Flash this recovery: http://www.theandroidkitchen.com/fi...download=recovery-RA-Magic32A-6.35-v1.6.2.img and use only ROMs made for NEW RADIO/NR/6.35. Either that, or flash the old radio/spl using eyegor's Radio Switcher (see dev thread).
^ Thank you in advance
The current state of the phone is, just to give you info:
Engineering SPL, S-OFF, HBOOT is 1.76.2007, Radio 6.35.08.29, recovery (flashed from Fast Boot) recovery-RAv1.2.0H which is stuck at boot loop, and Amon RA's clean donut ROM which is also stuck at boot loop.
I suppose the only way to fix this problem is to use adb from Fastboot USB or using gold card?
What are the symptoms of a definitively bricked phone?

Can you give me the console command to flash it from fastboot? Is that the only way to flash recovery? I have tried flash recovery <recovery_name.ext>, but with no success, i get the :
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-Magic32A-6.35-v1.6.2.img
error: cannot load 'recovery-RA-Magic32A-6.35-v1.6.2.img'
EDIT:
Me stupid, forgot to place the recovery in tools folder
I'll try now to load some ROM for 6.35 radio, or maybe downgrade the SPL/Radio

Please read this whole post before clicking on links.
Yes, and apparently you never read mskips thread which was posted in the guide you used. Check this link out to flash a radio via sdcard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
If you can get into boot loader mode you might have a chance to save the phone. Have you tired Task 29? It'll erase everything on your phone (besides the radio)?
Also please provide me with the link to the thread where you got the radio from.
If you need some help hit me up on gtalk using your google account. ldgarcia4283, i'm gonig to walmart but i can chat on gtalk.
