Hey Everyone,
Please forgive me if this is a repost, I've been searching for awhile and cannot find any answers.
I'm an at&t user using an unlocked G1 to see if I liked android enough to commit.
Anyway after trying for 3 days (lol) to root and upgrade to 2.2 with CM6. I kind of did it. The only thing is I think I skipped the part about backing up. And now cannot install GAPPS. I'm a total noob as you can tell, so is there anything I can do get GAPPS installed ?.
If not, how would you suggest I go back to stock 1.6
Thanks in advance,
Lee.
Okay, got it working now.
Was using wrongfile for gapps.
PS: forums are awesome, Thanks for all your hard work.

Hi!
Thanks for this forum folks.
Ive rooted yesterday, when i got my phone. Now im thinking about trying a new rom.
Is it hard to install? Does pictures and apps disappear from my sd card?
Please give me some hints for this. Where i need to read, and how i do this.
I also read about ROM manager.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639153
Does that mean you dont have to fix in the recovery mode etc....
Thanks
I'm also interested in this subject. I haven't rooted my phone yet and I'm wondering which rom (custom and official) is the best ??
I'm in the same boat, just got my legend a few days ago and will be rooting it soon. I have very little space on my device so I want something with sense but not all the extra garbage that comes bundled with it.
I'm loving the phone but since its my first android I need a little guidance
P. S. I got swift key beta and its effing amazing!

Same here. Rooter 2 days ago. I read a lot about custom roms and procedure to load but am a bit confused. Small summary would be hight apreciated.
hey guys i am pretty sure i am smart enough to root my phone, im just curious about what all i can do by just simply rooting. I am more than content with the stock rom so im not really thinking bout flashing a custom one.
I've had 3 android phones but never successfully rooted any of them lol. so i just pretty much gave up. From what i can see the process of rooting the vibrant seems fairly simple. Once i have rooted the phone how would i go about uninstalling bloatware? What else can i do besides tethering? I guess what im needing help with is what to do once i have rooted. Im sorry for being a noob lol i've read a lot of different threads on rooting but im still really confused about what to do once you have rooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry again for bein nooby. Have a great day ya'll
(sorry for typos and grammatical errors im posting from my phone)
rooting on this phone is literally a 2 minute process. I just got the phone yesterday (first droid device ever, jumped ship from symbian) and I rooted it right away. I made a stock backup with ROM manager first, and then purchased rootexplorer to clear the bloat off. Most advanced functionality requires a rooted phone...I would definitely recommend doing it

Hey guys, I just searched through and found:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
*Still a new noob on the forums so I wasn't able to link the complete thread.
That thread for updating rooted phones. Is there a different method for EVO's or does this post apply for EVO's as well?
Just rooted my phone this past weekend (with Unrevoked3) and I'm quite new to the root ways. Currently not running any special ROM's just using launcherPRO instead of Sense UI.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If you get it upload it here we can do nothing for rooted phones till soneone who got the update actually takes the time to upload it

Working like a charm... the phone is lightning quick.
I completely new to the whole flashing and custom rom thing. I've never tried anything like it and don't know much about it. The closest I've come to hacking or rooting my Vibrant phone is with the OCLF app. Now, I too have been patiently waiting for Froyo to come out and for some reason when it did come out I was hesitant to get it. I wanted to see what people were saying about it before I downloaded and installed it. So far from what I'm seeing, its not all its cracked up to be and it seems like Froyo for the Vibrant is "meh" for most. This is a bummer to me but I kept hearing about using a custom and its advantages. Thankfully I bumped into a very useful thread posted by xriderx66 on his reviews on some of the roms out now. Based on what he said, I'm looking to flashing my phone to the Bionix-V Rom by Team Whiskey. Problem is I have no idea how to get started. What do I need to do to flash my phone? Any program I need to download first? How do I backup my files? I'm such a noob at this its funny but I'm willing to take the risk and experience this phone the way it should be experienced. If someone can post a link showing a step by step on how to do the whole thing I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Go to the development thread and browse through the stickies. Reading and more reading should be the first two things you do. Pay attention to anything relating to odin.

Your welcome. Let me know if you run into any issues.

That thread he posted for you is the best information I have been able to find for someone that is just getting started. I too am just kinda dancing around flashing bionix v. I have rooted and downloaded rom manager and clockwork though...just about ready to flash as soon as I gather up the courage. But everything I have done up to this point was learned in the Noob Guide he linked. Its like vibrant flashing for dummies.

Will do jbat! Once again thanks. @ goodvibrant, I hear you. Tomorrow when I have the time I will flash this phone to the Bionix thanks to this noob guide. I took a look at the guide and it seems pretty easy to follow. I look forward to it!

Sure thing man. No problem. Ive received help and try to give it when I can. I figure if I can help with the easier questions then the guys that know a hell of a lot more than I do, can focus on the advanced questions. Everyone is here to learn.

Hi all!
I guess this is getting old now, but I have a HTC Magic 1.5 phone, with 32 A motherboard and 6.35 radio. I've been googling and looking through numerous of guides and forums and I'm just getting more and more confused. I hope you guys can help me.
What I have done now is installed the universial androot and rooted my phone (at least the app said it was successful). The next step I guess is flashing and installing a new ROM. I came across an app called ROM manager, which seemed to make everything much easier, but unfortunately it doesn't run on 1.5.
So, is there an easy way to do the rest? I really want a new ROM on my phone.
Thank you!
DON'T USE ROM MANAGER...
And don't post in multiple threads... i already answered your question..
Sorry, I guess this tread can be closed then.
