i was only wondering is it possible to root android once you've gotten the os on the hd 2, but ofcourse it would have to be according to which phone model is being used.
ex. htc hd2 with android froyo desire sense= froyo desire sense
WTF??? It's rooted already.
Laughing out loud. Im gonna quote this

@OP: to answer your question: it is already rooted. If you have any problems doing anything that requires superuser permissions, you can ask about that in the thread of the Android build you are using.

Follow that, skip step 2. And before you click "New Thread" next time, use search and open your eyes.
Here's a link to where you can find all the ROMs and radio available for your N1 after rooting it.

You can never go wrong with the ROMs available right now. They all have their benefits, pros and cons so I suggest you try em yourself.
Froyo isn't officially out yet, so it wont be available via OTA for who knows when. The leaked version is available to try out, and although there are minor issues on this ROM, its definitely usable and I'm very satisfied with it.

This does not belong in the development section as this is not development. Questions expecting answers belong in the section titled Q&A. I know we move fast but try to keep up.
Anyways, I'm on t mobile us. there is not a rom that is stock desire with the mms fix, it has to do with the sense messaging client. That being said, there are several roms that have this fix, if sense is what you want. Cmylxgo has several desire hd roms where mms comes in beautifully. There's a mytouch 4g rom from motoman. there's a themed desire rom, but I forgot who the chef is.
I would also like to point out that you probably would have found all of this with five minutes of the search button or about ten clicks in the development section.

Depending on the ROM, there is usually detail instruction on how to flash the ROM over your current one.

If you use daf or dft, then yes, it will just overwrite everything. If you take this route, I would backup everything with titanium backup first and if you want to some sms bacup app.
I recommend using clockwork recovery mod as a primary way of flashing, however. First, it is a far superior method of changing roms because you can make a full backup and if you don't like the new rom then you go back to everything in it's right place. Second, it seems that many roms are moving to this now. It may soon become more difficult to flash via dft or daf versus with cwm. Educate yourself on this, it's seriously very easy to figure out and even easier to use once you do figure it out.

I would agree if it was somthing technical, but something as simple as a topic title or difference between the word "nand" and a version number of OS?!?
the reason why these questions dont get a warm welcome is because the posters dont take 5 minutes to read teh rom instructions or even the guides that are posted in the sticky topics.
Its quite amazing that some people even get as far as flashing magldr
Hello everybody
I want to root my HTC wildfire devices. For this I downloaded the unrevoked software with its drivers. After that I followed all the steps from xda forum. But at the last.... I am getting an error message about....firmware too new....(I m Frm my phn, do I can't provide the link or correct message).....please help me
Thanks

That is an error you get with the newest update from HTC. This update contains the HBOOT 1.01. That can't be rooted using unrevoked. this is a post regarding the same problem
If you read a little more you see that AlphaRevX states they has the solution but it is not quite there yet.
As of now the only way to root it is to get someone with an XTC clip to get it s-off first.
there are allready a lot of posts in here regarding this problem.

Nope. But there is a beta testing going on for alpharevx, so there is already a solution in the pipeline. I'm afraid the only the that can be done is wait and hope it gets trough the test phase..
For the rest of your possible questions:
- nobody knows how long to wait, probably not even the dev's.
- the beta testing is "closed", which means that you have to be invited by the alpharev team personaly. I'm sure that they have enough wildfires to test, because they don't launch any questions for people willing to sacrifice there wildfire. So no need to contact them: if everyone sends them with the same question, then one can call that spamming
So again, sit back and relax, as it is the only thing that can be done now

Yeah without root u can't access or write to system partition as far as I know. U can install cwm though interestingly enough which I didn't know (I did it yesterday to my mates gt-s6500) then rooted from there. So who knows wait for someone with bit more experience to give u definitive answer but if u can, I never seen it and I used fair few devices.why u not want to root anyway?

To be honest: "Custom Rom (which includes rooting)" and "noob" isn't a good match.
But make a test of your own: Read this and if you think you understand what you are going to do - do it. If not .... I think you know the answer.
Good luck.

I too am a noob to this but have managed to root and install a custom Rom and return my DHD back to stock. Best advice I can give from my experience is to google AAHK (I believe it has been removed from here) and read the effin manual enclosed within the zip file. It's one click and it will wipe and root your device. You can then install a custom Rom stored on Ur SD card through the Menu (HBOOT I believe). I know I don't have many posts on here but that's due to A LOT of time spent reading threads and then giving it a go. If you get stuck, I'm sure any questions you have have been asked here before

Ditto.
Search google for 'attn1 advanced ace hack kit'. Read his entire post, read the effn manual (inside the AAHK), read it again, then quiz yourself. Search youtube for other people using it, to give you an idea of how it should go. Search youtube for how to flash a custom ROM too. You'll figure it out.
If anything does go wrong, don't freak out, and come here for help.
Am a noob... rooted my phone two weeks ago and installed Android Revolution HD 6.3.3. Also tried out CM 7.2.
Rooting with AAHK is pretty easy, though the manual is not as clear as it could be. Download the Kit, read the manual and will be happy to help you with the parts which are not clear. It is still fresh in my mind.

Rooting the Desire HD was probably the easiest root I've had to do. I blindly tried to root my father's Galaxy S II and installed the wrong kind of firmware and it was a mess, DHD has a simple program which you can even root with, one click and reading the EFFN MANUAL is all it takes.

Easy? It is totaly insane! So many things to go wrong, first they don't recommend windows, you have to get Ubuntu, find your way in ubuntu (how do they say prompt in Linux? Ahhh, console? No, TERMINAL!) Then it is pretty easy, just one line downloads root and runs it, but I still prefer the method I used to root my wife's Galaxy Ace. Just copy a zip onto a SD card and boot in recovery and apply update from SD card. No need to connect it to the PC, worry about stupid windows USB drivers etc.
But it works and that is important. The manual is makig things more complicated than they need to be. Only once you do it you realize that if is not so complex as manual wants you to believe
cheers,

Really? Oh dear, installing a new OS definetly doesn`t make sense for just installing another rom on a stock dhd.
Reading guide, doing whats written there ................. aaaaaaaaand it´s done.
Changing/Messing with the OS on an expensive device is not something you should do unless you understand what your doing. This is a Development site. Now a rom flashing site. Being a noob is no excuse for not following the forum rules. We were all noobs at one time or another.
You search, you read, you read some more, and then as your done reading.........you read a little bit more. Then you go about rooting and flashing the phone. When/If you run into issues, guess what you do. You repeat the above and search and read. Then if your still stuck and there are no threads about your issue and you followed ALL the directions that you could find, then you open a thread and ask for help.
