Amazing work from Sebastian Krahmer. His latest exploit also works on Froyo 2.2 on the EVO: http://c-skills.blogspot.com/
Looks like we now have what we have all been waiting for.
Update: I Followed the last link I shared on here for the guide and have successfully rooted my evo. So if you want your evo rooted go the the development forum and follow the guide. but here's the link again if you need it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496
i was thinking this as well.. but thinking about it further.. unrevoked rorever requires a custom recovery to be installed first. to get that custom recovery you need to run unrevoked 3. unrevoked 3 still has the disclaimer: Unrevoked 3 does NOT work on Stock Froyo (Android 2.2) Phones
:-/
Yeah, little skeptical still.. Wish I wasn't at work, I'd try it out.
It looks like unrevoked found the exploit to get into the phone now and then you have the programs to run it. They will probably update something to show us how to do it all together.
But they found out how to get in that's all that matters.
So from what I'm understanding is the new way to root the droid 2 is the same exploit that works for the evo and will work.
Here's the thread for the droid 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764950
So from what I understand is if you follow those instructions it should work.
@unrevoked
If you're desperate to root an EVO with Froyo, watch this space for a downgrade/unrevoked^3/unrevoked forever method: http://bit.ly/dg2Fu4
nice ill wait until this method is thoroughly tested on the evo, but glad to see 2.2 rooted!
DAMN! This will lower the value of my EVO when I go to sell it in about a week. Booooo!
Great, now I can send by mine back for replacement since my 4g keys are borked.

Follow the last link I posted under the update on the first post.
not to sound ignorant, but what does this new root entail ? caz i have evo (came with 2.1) did root it with unrevoked forever and have been using custom froyo roms. currently i am using fresh evo 3.1.0.2.
so back to my original question, what does this new root do? is it just for the new evos which comes preloaded with 2.2?
thanx
It works great! A little lengthy but well worth it!
All it is.. is to make root for people who had 2.2 froyo or had it installed when bought.. brings it back to 2.1 so you can root your evo.

I just tried it and it does work just follow the instructions works perfectly dont worry about it does work
Since I didn't want to unrevoke and have full access I actually used the step tell it asked for me to unrevoke so my phone was on 2.1 and then I went for another rooting option for 2.1 and it all worked and I'm not on the CM6 nightly. It is wonderful and it's amazing how much more I can do now.

Getting a new EVO, what should I do to not break this one

My new EVO is coming in since my last one's screen broke. I guess I broke the 4g on the old one because it never worked after I flashed it even when I unrooted it to take to sprint.
someone had had some suggestions about not breaking 4g and safely rooting the phone. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Flash a wimax radio.
8pen from my supersonic on the xda app.
Nandroid with Amen-ra 1.8 ASAP before flashing radios to backup everything including your wimax partition. Clockwork doesn't back wimax up. You can easily restore wimax later if you hose it that way.
There are plenty of threads with instructions on rooting like the one click root thread.

Which Root Method To Use?

I just got an Evo 4G yesterday, the last time I rooted an evo I had was a few months after release. But I left sprint for another carrier for almost a year, it was a 002 verison. Any how this evo has the Following
2.10 Hboot
004 revison
Baseline 2.15.00.11.19
Build 3.70.651.1
Software 3.70.651.1
PRI 1.90_003
PRL 60676
I have no idea which root method to use i've searched and seen so many but not sure which one to use, last time I was using unrevoked, cant remember if I had to use shell commands like it was during the first rooting process of the Evo. It seems that it has got a little more confusing. Can anyone give me a LINK with a method that would work with my EVO. Thanks in advance.
Unrevoked.

Thanks for the speedy reply, giving it a go right now.
Wow, where are the people saying "Unrevoked sucks! You're lazy if you use it and if you do, you deserve to get herpes!" that usually come out for questions like this?
I second unrevoked. I know what I'm doing, but unrevoked worked fine for me. Why do extra work if it's not needed?
3rd vote for Unrevoked.
4th unrevoked for noobs there's no better way and its quick

I am in the Exact predicament, just got a new Evo today. My old rooted/nand unlocked one broke and my best-buy warranty got me a brand new out in box, 100% free. Now im looking to re-root it. Last time i rooted i used toasty's method(think that was his name) and it took a while with some adb terminals. Does unrevoked root and unlock nand? I just want to be able to run Cyanogen Mod and tether wifi.
Thanks guys.
I just tried Unrevoked 3. I have the correct Evo drivers installed via HTC Sync, i had uninstalled HTC Sync, and i had successfully installed the Hboot drivers. I then ran unrevoked and it found my Evo but after a few minutes of the program working, i got this error.

Anyone know of a way to root/nand unlock brand new Evo's? mine came with 2.2
Just ran it as Admin and all is well. My stupid fault, and wow was that allot easier then the like 80 step guide i fallowed for my first evo.

Go ahead and give it another try and run as admin. Make sure you have HTC sync uninstalled and have the Android USB Driver installed. And also make sure your downloading the latest version of Unrevoked.
EDIT: I just noticed your last post... Oh well.. Glad you got it rooted.
+1 sometimes with the newer hardware you have to try it a few times before it'll work.

I was in the same boat in February. Spent two weeks reading through every thread on here trying to decide - especially since mine is a company phone and I didn't want to brick it that quick.
I ended up doing the Auto Root. I watched the youtube for the 25 minutes, then ran it on mine while the video ran again. Worked in perfect time with the youtube video and have not had a problem with it at all.

hah i am usually one of those people saying unrevoked will give you herpes, but it has gotten better over the past few months, and now works perfectly fine.
if you want to take the hard/fun way, use the link in my sig. it is the manual way to do it that teaches you how to use basic adb and flashing and stuff. very helpful if you want to learn fast.
again, my unrevoked hating days are over, but i still reccomend this method.
I have rooted several methods. Manually and with unrevoked. Unrevoked works fantastically and I have never had a problem. Noob or just lazy like me, its perfectly fine

same here unrevoked 3.32 worked flawlessly for me i was very curious about rooting and if hadn't been for unrevoked i probably would have never done it i saw a video on youtube and looked so simple, it was like for clicks it worked for me in two i was so surprised i didnt belive i was rooted and checked and rechecked and i was fully rooted
unrevoked here as well. I originally rooted using Toast's method back at launch, but my new phone came a few days ago and I had the same debate. Unrevoked just plain works fast, and it has a tiny download.

Lost phone..new one came with stock 2.3.4

So I lost my phone..the new one came in last night. And it came with 2.3.4.. I tried to down grade it..followed all the instructions from the forum and everything worked fine..until the bootloader part. It said that it couldn't find the
PD15img.zip file when I put it in the root of the sd card. And then I followed the FAT32 method to make the phone read my sdcard..but that still Didn't work..now what?? Used the search bar but could find anything..

Look in the vision g2 section I was in the same boat as you there is a tut in those forums for downgrading to 2.2.1 with adb it also works for mt4g wish I still had link but its there
Same here... Lost my phone and received the replacement yesterday (off course version 2.3.4). Turned out it is a refurbished, the speaker not working, the earpiece not working. I missed another release of lovely Miui
I just happened to see this post and am curious what the problem is... Why are you downgrading it???
I have a Mytouch 4g (HTC Glacier) which was having issues and I just got the replacement. I have not even turn it on, but I have not doubt it will be 2.3.3-- their latest OTA udpate.
Is there going to be any problem rooting this?? Again, it alarmed me that people were trying to downgrade..
Has the firmware/bootloader changed???

There is no method to root 2.3.4 yet. That's why people have to downgrade.
Do you mean like downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.2.1 root it, and then upgrade to 2.3.4?
But the only way to do that is if we had the stock 2.3.4 rom, which we don't have, correct?
So I can skip the root and wait, or I can downgrade and be able to use 50% of the apps which I would otherwise be unable to use as they require root.
This sucks.... I am sure someone is working hard on this... but I am surprised there has not been any method (even one that was risky -- as in one typo and you've bricked it) figured out by someone...
Ummm.. Next question then, Can anyone tell me any obvious benefits of the TMO 2.3.4 stock? Is it fast, or mediocre? Or is it just worthless due to the fact that you cannot root it?

Didn't quite understand what you mean but yes, if you got the phone pre-installed with TMO's 2.3.4 then there's no way to root that. You would have to downgrade back to Froyo then root it.
There really are no benefits to TMO's stock 2.3.4 since CM7 2.3.5, VU's 2.3.4 and MIUI's 2.3.5 GB are all better and faster. And even if you liked TMO's GB version for some reason there are rooted and deodexed versions to flash in the dev section. So there really is no downside to rooting.
And as previously stated, the only way to downgrade would be to use that thread in the G2 section which requires ADB.
If you have any questions I just finished downgrading my replacement phone and and rooting via gfree last night.
And before last night I've never even used ADB before.
Found 2 threads that helped me do just that.
Got it all downgraded then followed a video to root gfree. (mackster248)
(Never rooted that way before either.)
Anyway PM if you need help. Maybe I can help you out.

I came over from Sprint Sunday. I bought a new MT4G, and it had 2.3.4 on it. I had a bad feeling there wasnt gonna be a root method for it. I jumped on my PC and did a few google searches. I came up with this method to downgrade:

It went perfect. I also looked at a few of the root methods. I found this one to be easiest for me:

same thing happened to me, I tried the adb process but it's hard. so I gave up.. Good luck to you

Yes you would half to downgrade to 2.2.1 to root there is no way to root 2.3.4 right now
Yea, unlike most of the other HTC. Phones that got a 2.3.4 update, revolution doesn't support unlocking the mytouch 4g without a downgrade. On the first page of this thread I posted a link to downgrade and the easiest way I found to root. Someone also posted links on this page. I found a few other root methods but they required you to install apps to gain temp root access or download files on the phones browser. The link I found actually only requires you to dl and unzip a few files to your PC and run maybe 10 or 12 commands in a terminal. Very easy.

superoneclick is alot easier to root that is why i'm asking.
