Hi!
I have Autorun Killer and Startup Auditor installed and both show me different apps that are supposedly starting up on their own.
Autorun Killer has also two entries for some apps, like Autokiller for instance, while Startup Audito has only one.
Can somebody recommend a good startup manager? I'm also wondering which apps can be removed from the automatic startup.
Would be great if someone could clarify that for me.
i use this one Startup Manager
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765081
it's safe, and it doesn't close application randomly, because you only disable the software that you don't want
it's very easy to use
Startup auditor let's you disable apps and drivers/services from starting. Good for turning off email if you use third party app like k9. Also good for services like samsung social network hub as i don't use it and wastes ram just running. I use" startup manager" too. I think everyone does

I just though that since Autorun Killer is from the same guy as Autokiller it might be just as good...

Is there any way to remove/uninstall the moxier apps. I dont have any use for them.
To my knowledge, it won't be possible to uninstall until the X10 is rooted. In the mean time try an app like Startup Auditor to disable (and keep disabled) Moxier.
Man, that works! Great
More than 50 mb saved !
I installed Startup Auditor and it still doesn't block Moxier, because of all the events Moxier loads itself at.
These are the events:
After Startup
Connectivity Changed
Storage Low
Storage OK
Application Replaced

Timezone Changed
Time Changed
Call State Changed
Service State Changed

Startup Auditor hooks itself to the bolded ones.
Is there another app that could do the trick?
I'm also using Advanced Task Manager, which can be set to kill apps at set intervals (as often as every 30 minutes). So I have that set, and made sure Moxier is not on my exclusion list.
Using JuiceDefender too, which will at least limit data connections while the phones is on standby so as to preserve battery power. Works well.
i use TaskPanel Lite which I think is better than Startup Auditor.
Every time you screen turns off - TaskPanel switches of the apps you do not want running.
And with ultimate juice (Juice Defender free + payable extension) battery life is getting acceptable.
Killing Moxier
I have Startup Auditor set to kill off Moxier as above and also have TasKiller (paid version) running and set to kill all apps on screen off, that seems to kill of Moxier pretty well
Hi guys,
Sorry if this has been posted before, i searched for it, and couldnt find a decent reply to what I was looking for. I also googled it, and it only came up with results that were either outdated, or not very helpful.
Can you guys here tell me what kind of task manager you're using? And whats good/not good about it?
I am currently using TaskPanel. I've tried advanced task killer, and android system info (something along those lines) and found TaskPanel to be the best and simplest to use so far.
Thanks!
You don't really need a task manager app.
Read this http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/04/multitasking-android-way.html
The key part is: "applications may seem present to the user without an actual process currently running the app; multiple applications may share processes, or one application may make use of multiple processes depending on its needs; the process(es) of an application may be kept around by Android even when that application is not actively doing"
This means that the taskmanagers can't properly manage the running apps. Also, android has a built in task manager, which should keep the running apps in check, and close any if more memory is needed

Thats correct, but some oif the Apps are not good implemented and the Android build in Task Manger isn't able to control them complete. So there is a smal need for a Taskmanager in Android also, yust use it carefully and do not use any AutoKill features or Apps.

I use minfree manager or autokiller to adjust the minfree mem setting on android. Works like a charm on my galaxy with agressive "82, 90, 98" setting.
Its not a traditional task killer, but instead tweaks the OS to free up ram alot sooner than usual. I didnt have any good results with normal task killer apps in the past.
Also with this setting, I find in unnesassary to apply PO's lag fix from modaco, phone runs great as it is. (JF3 firmware)
I should mention that you require root to adjust minfree settings.
best solution... Reboot the S boots in like 30 secs anyways..

sounds good! I will give it a try someday, but i'll need to root my device.
I know this is off-topic, but is rooting risky?? I come from a Samsung i900 omnia, and flashing that device could mean instant brick, rendering the device completely useless, i don't want that happening to my GS.
cheers!
When i had the Desire i didnt require any killer apps. But with the Galaxy S n the lag/blackout issues i needed to install task killers coz it was getting really really slow. I now have Auto Memory Manager installed which does a decent job.
Come on Samsung, show the world that u do care about your customers. The world is watching....
Autokiller is very good!

Autokiller is very very good! I used to use the advanced task killer and set to auto-kill in crazy mode everytime screen is off. But even then, memory drops very fast to 30+ mb in less than 1 day of usage, with no other processes running. Yesterday I switched to autokiller and memory from morning till now never drops below 110mb! Phone feels and behaves alot snappier!
autokiller

+1
first tried different task managers, but it doesn't work as good as the internal one
I use Auto KillerMemory optimizer, when I had it on EB13 it worked great. But now idk if it does much anymore. whenever I look into my "running services" I always see apps I dont even use or open. Like Titanium Pro,Maps,XDA,settings, other stuff. like Titanium backup I dont have it set to auto backup or anything. Its just installed for quick use, thats it. Yet its always running in background.
Someone recommend a tweak or sort to not have nonsense running? Perferably NOT a task killer.
Auto KillerMemory optimizer used to do a great job at doing this =/
I use a program called "autostarts" It lets you choose to block certain apps from running at startup. I really don't worry about it too much as android does a pretty good job on its own, but I do like to have SOME control as well.
Yes Autostarts is great. You can also freeze apps you don't normally use with Titanium Pro paid. If you really want to see all the crap that loads you can try Auto Task Killer for Froyo and set it for maximum.

The best, most efficient, smallest footprint, and easy-to-nav app that can kill unnecessary apps/services and block ones you don't want coming up?

I always have and still do use Advanced Task Killer off the market.
Have always used Android Assistant but it seems to have some problems blocking apps in honeycomb.
It's been posted time and again on many Android forums that Task Killers are generally a bad idea. Let Linux do its thing. If an app is misbehaving, uninstall it. Use Titanium Backup to either freeze or uninstall ANY application (root is required).

Why are they generally a bad idea?
And what does freezing apps do?
Sometimes Task killers are necessary for a misbehaving app. I have several that I use that sometimes fail to close properly start using large chunks of cpu time in the background.
Blocking an app from starting up is different. Some applications want to start up everytime you power on your device and it is just not necessary. This is where blocking them from starting up I find a beneficial. Before doing this though you should analyze the application and how much memory and cpu is actually using.
However I agree That using a task killer to constantly kill tasks in the background is indeed a bad idea.
A few points about Linux, Android and Task Killers:
1. Android is based on Linux, but the Dalvik byte code layer and framework design makes the OS it's own entity.
2. If all apps were designed to spec, there were no fragmentation and they "played nice", then a task killer would not be needed. Since a lof apps do not and there is fragmentation, a lot of apps do not play nice. Even OEM loaded apps can suck the resource soul out of a device. The Sony Play is an example of this (great device slowed by AWFUL bloatware).
3. Task killers are very handy to kill rogue apps that are an issue and the key is to exclude system-apps, which are usually the little green & white icons, but not always.
Dupe post. Silly.
I understand that task killers drain your battery, but im not gonna lie I like bein able to close all my apps and not gettin notifications all day long. so is there something out there like this that doesn't constantly run in the background?

Same here. Put the widget down bottom right of the screen, just tap it every now and then. Works like a charm.
yes...i experienced it with my arc, after i removed Advanced task killer, the phone actually gave better performance. I had an issue with gameloft HD games which forced the phone to restart atfer 5 mins playing them, but it got solved atfer i uninstalled advanced task killer. The thing is linux and windows have different methods of handling background processes and hence we need to get out of the windows mentality. Also u can always close unwanted processes from the settings menu. Pls try it and reply what difference u see....

Task killers that are auto will cause issues, since those same apps will just keep restarting, assuming it's services that are syncing and what not. I use MIUi+GO launcher which both have the ability to kill only active apps or ones in foreground. I think you should use this on your phone, it will modify android's built in task killer instead of being an app...And it stops home launcher from reloading.

Spare Parts is another way of tweaking Android's in-built task management settings.
In Android, a full RAM doesn't mean a slower phone. Android will wipe RAM whenever it needs it and some apps will only try to restart when you kill them so it's no use having a task killer.
On the other hand, sometimes a crazy app could swallow the CPU, and that can even cause your phone to freeze, not having a task killer shouldn't be troublesome if you keep that in mind and kill any greedy app.
Uhm, if I didn't do myself clear: TaskKillers in the Arc are useless xD

personally my arc without task killer drain battery very fast.
