Hi All,
I have a Telfort phone subscription, which natively makes use of the KPN network (Dutch users might recognize this). My problem is that Touch HD considers the KPN network as roaming, even if it ain't (there's no Telfort network anymore, KPN is native now and does not impend additional charges for data usage).
I'm pretty sure that it is mostly a problem of Telfort and "wrong" sim card, but as I saw from internet that Telfort is not going to fix it.
Is it possible somehow to add KPN to white list (list of non-roaming) network?
P.S. I'm using latest official ROM.
I'd like to bump this one. My girlfriend has the same problem with the same networks, also stock rom. I've tried auto-configuring the network and everything.

Have had my wizard for a couple of weeks now, when I bought it, it had the O2 software running on it, its branded externally as an O2. I upgraded the ROM last night but i have noticed that the phone (as before) still thinks it is using the T-mobile network e.g. when i tap on the signal strength indicator or a message comes through, it indicates the t-mobile network. I can receive and make calls as well as text messages and voicemail on the virgin network no problem. After doing the rom update last night i indicated that i was on the Virgin network when prompted when the device was initialising.
So how do i get rid of the fact that my wizard thinks its using the t-mobile network when its actually using the Virgin network. The phone is branded externally as O2? How on earth did this t-mobile identity survive the ROM update. Note i applied the I-mate ROM.
During the ROM update i left the sd card containing the previous ROM image (O2), a backup in case things went wrong, in the device. I noticed that a little after i ran the imate rom update from my host pc a message appeared on my imate mentioning something about the fact that there was an SD card containing a rom image and if i wanted to use this. It was very late and by the time it registed with me what i was looking at the message timed out and the rom update continued. Could this explain the reocurrence of the t-mobile wording. When i reset the device the imate splash is what i see.
Currently:
ROM version 2.16.9.1 WWE
ROM date 2/6/06 (6/2/06 here in the UK)
Radio version 02.07.10
Protocol version 413.1.03
ExtROM version 2.16.9.101
Thanks for any help
Fergus
Virgin is a virtual mobile operator and uses T-mobile's network. Its common for T-Mobile to show up as the carrier on many mobile phones.
Roaming indication after upgrade
Hi have the same problem.
I have a T-mobile (US) phone; I upgraded the ROM (Qtek test ROM) and since then, the phone shows that I am roaming into Cingular network.
In my area (San Francisco) - Cingular is the actual network operator; T-mobile uses Cingular's infrastructure as part of a deal made long time ago.
So, the ROM is correct but I wish there was a way to disable the ugly triangle (showing that I'm roaming) or alternatively - let the phone know that I'm parked in a "home-network".
Ah thank you for clearing that up. By the way is it true that virgin has been bought by NTL, someone mentioned this today. Not sure who is worse NTL or Virgin UK.
Do you know where i can get the settings for MMS and GPRS, have not checked if they have been set up properly.
Many Thanks
Fergus

it's true...
The operator logo in the dialer does not automatically change when you switch networks / sim cards.
It depends on the image file 'carrierlogo.gif' in the Windows folder.
I have an unlocked T-Mobile MDA Vario with an Orange sim card - this showed as T-Mobile until I updated the carrierlogo.gif file!
If you want to view the network you are currently connected to, go to Start | Settings | Phone | Network.

Have you tried another QTek ROM? Otherwise, it's a possible SIM-related issue. The SIM hasn't received an OTA (Over the Air) update telling it that it is connected to T-Mobile's local switch. Furthermore, you shouldn't be on the shared network anymore since the old GSM 1900 shared network was sold to T-Mobile in CA and NV as part of the Cingular/AT&T merger. I would think that T-Mobile has updated that GSM 1900-only network to broadcast only their MNC (Network Code) so any T-Mobile SIMs registered on the network know that it is a native network.
Quick question - as ever i've searched but not found anything in the Blackstone forum, so pre-emptive apologies if it's right under my nose..
On the HTC Touch HD Handset - Connections ; Network Management, it gives the option to choose between "mobile web" and "O2 active."
can someone please tell me which is superior / faster (if either) and what further configuration settings i may need to change to get the best signal & performance? Im on a pre-pay contract with the monthly Bolt On of "Unlimited" Internet form O2.
many thanks
I use mobile web and the speed seems ok. I can't remember if I ever bothered with the O2 Active.
Anyway you can try either using the websites you will most likely be accessing. I'd say you should clear the browser cache before each website test. An Edge connection is best from my research but I am not really bothered for what I use the mobile for.
At the end of the day if you need supreme speed you have to use the desktop. Hope that helps.
You use the mobile web connection for Internet access. The O2 Active setting is WAP and used for MMS.
Remember if you are on PAYG, you need to use the PAYG settings, not pay-monthly. Change the APN from mobile.o2.co.uk to payandgo.o2.co.uk, ussername=payandgo, password=password
I am with o2 pre pay contract.
Just some info if your using an old sim card that you`ve had for a couple of phones (upgrades), i found out my sim card wasn`t a 3G sim card. In my blackstone all i got was the edge network, After contacting o2 they sent me a new sim card and i now pick up the HSPDA network, which is indicated by H.
You can tell by looking at the serial code on the sim . It should say 3G at the end of the serial.
Does anyone know how to configure their o2 connection so that GPRS is enabled but not 3G. I am having trouble as when I try the settings always shows as 3G?

Settings, Phone, Band, Network Type - GSM (i think!)
Hi,
I recently bought a HTC Surround (AT&T), im from Costa Rica and we don't have AT&T as a carrier.
The phone works great with the GSM band but when i try to look for any 3G settings (using 850Mhz band) i cant find any options.
According to an article in the internet (i cant post any links yet) there should be an option called "Mobile Network" where i can turn the 3G on or off, so im guessing AT&T disabled the option (phone doesn't have any 3G sign on the sign bar at the top just the antenna bars).
Is there any way to Unlock the 3G options on this phone?
Thank you.
Help me out a little with your request. The place to turn on/off data is under cellular in the settings page. However, I haven't found "Mobile Network" on mine. However, I did download HTC Connection Setup which allowed the phone to search for various carriers and automatically set up the connections. That program is in Marketplace under HTC apps.
BTW, is your phone SIM unlocked?
Thank you for answering ...Sure ill help you with what ever you need... we might be able to narrow down my problem... lets see
1. HTC connection: yea i tried the app actually i have it installed on my phone but its giving me a message saying "Carrier doesnt exist in the data base" that i need to go a create apn (isnt that for phone internet). so i cant use the application, our carrier here is called I.C.E.
2.The band Costa Rica is using for 3G is the 850MHz. my SIM card is linked to a GSM account (1900 MHz) but the phone should be able to recognize the band tho, isnt that right?
3.how do i know if my phone is sim lock? i just placed my GSM SIM card inside and its working, do i need to try with a different card?
4. how does 3G works in this phone? is it configurable?
I'm pretty sure you are going to have to configure an APN for it to use 3G. As for band switching, I don't think it's possible with the current interface (at least on AT&T). Perhaps there are some registry entries that we will soon be able to access when some of the WP7 developers make headway, but right now, there is nothing of which I'm aware. If you can call on your network, the phone is already SIM unlocked, so no need to worry there.
I found some nice info about switching 3G or 2G etc... which it helps but i think it didnt work on mine.
Does anyone know how to set the HD7 (or surround) to 3G only?
Dialer> ##3282# Call > Settings > 3G only.
But in my case what i saw after that was that all the antenna bars were gone and then it went into no service then picked up signal again. After checking the settings after dialing again it was set to automatic again and if a switch it to 3G only it does the same thing again.
So im guessing it didnt work, ill try to talk to my carrier and see if we can create an APN to handle the 3G.
Is there a chance that the 3G feature is locked by AT&T?
Thanks for all your help if by any chance you find out something else i will appreciate the help.
Well apparently i got it fixed my phone seems to be working on 3G right now, i have the 3G sign on the top bar.
To make the story short.
I just configured my internet, added the roaming options and then tried again ##3282# only 3G and it worked now its showing 3G next to the antenna bars.
Thank you jwzg for your help.

Hi. If your SIM card is old (GSM) add APN: icecelular. If your SIM card is new (Kolbi), add APN: kolbi3g

No, you don't have to do any special configuration. I think TMobile bands for 3G are different frequencies from ATT, so sadly, I think you are never going to be able to have 3G connection on your Surround while you are on TMobile. Regards.
mmmmm tmobile used different bands
mmmmm input to sim movistar in htc, rigth in connection setup appers to configuracion of Nicaragua chance to Costa Rica and input sim ice connection don´t exist in data base... :-( mms is not working!!!
Hi all,
I have booked a data package for data roaming but the SGS3 (i9300MBDDBT XXLE8) won't connect. (germany -> france)
Data roaming is enabled of course, but all I get is the warning message, that data roaming has been disabled.
I have found very little information about this problem, only that some SGS2 or HTC Sensation users have been complaining about data roaming not working anymore after updating to ICS (from GB).
Is this an android bug of some sort or is anyone familiar with this problem?
BR
I have contacted my network provider, they had the gprs-roaming locked down for my contract for some reason...
Have you tried entering the network settings that you are roaming on to .
jje
Yeah, I guess the APN is set right to "web.vodafone.de", as it is stated in the service portal of my provider.
Althought I have read, that someone with a different provider had a similar problem and solved it by changing the APN...
I was just wondering, because the system tells me, that data roaming has been disabled, even if I have it enabled.
Try to manually search for some other network in France, maybe the one you are on right now does not offer data roaming (although I think all networks in the EU must offer it).
I can only connect to the "F SFR discoTel" network.
Since my home-network is discoTel (germany/vodafone network)
I guess this is their french partner network...
I have already contacted my provider via their service portal about this matter,
but they are quite slow and I think this problem might be connected to ICS, because all I can find about android not allowing data roaming on google is mentioning ICS.
Hi!
I recently switched my mobile provider to Three Austria (Drei) and since their network is not perfect on the countryside they are allowing us to use another provider in there areas (T-Mobile Austria)
But since it is a different provider my Nexus 4 thinks that I am roaming and deactivates the data connection.
Is there another way than activating data roaming for all networks, so something like national roaming on stock rom?
Regards,
tailorian

I'm on Drei too and I'm using the app "Roaming Control" which works perfectly (there is a trial version too). Seems to be the only solution so far since the "national roaming" option doesn't exist in the stock rom.

This is very annoying since the function for national roaming is included in CM.
I just wonder why this hasn't been pushed up to the android source code...
i also use 3 in austria.
is roaming control the only way until now?
my problem is that my phone sometimes connects to hungarian networks even if A1 is available.
remote control stops data roaming => this is good
but why did my phone not stay on the local provider?
how can i tell my phone that it should not connect to another operator aslong a national operator is available?
