ok, I just rooted my evo 2. 2 with the new root method and been able to flash other roms except CM6 RC2.. can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or this new root method doesn't unlock nand.?

1) It works for ALL EVO's.
2) Give us details! What doesn't work? What error messages do you get? What recovery are you using? We can't help unless you give details!
Had same problem. Follow Toasts part two method for full nand unlock. Then remember to wipe, flash rom, and flash latest radios. Done

wtf are you talking about?
clockwork is working fine here flashing CM6 and always has.
For the members who had 2.2 unrooted, and are using the new root method, cm6 needs an extra step before it can be flashed.
After doing the root process with unrevoked, you need to do this step:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764062
After that's done, you can flash cm6

I just recieved my EVO and it currently is running build number 3.26.651.6 and I revieved an update notification for 3.29.651.5 and did not execute the update. I intend to Root my phone using unrevoked3 and want to know if I can upgrade it before rooting or need to update it first and then upgrade using a custom ROM. Your help is greatly appreciated....Chuck
If you plan on rooting your phone why even bother with the update. Just root and flash a rom based on the latest OTA. I don't have an answer if unrevoked works with the latest OTA.
Revoked definately works, cause I just got my Evo a few days ago, and did all updates. Now I'm rooted and running CM6.
Depends on if you want to install a different ROM or not. I'd say go for it, root, and then create a nand backup as your original.
I was in the exact same situation. I did the official OTA update so it would flash all the new radios, PRI, PRL, etc. Then ran Unrevoked and installed Amon's RA recovery, then ran Unrevoked Forever, and then flashed Fresh.
Is there an advantage to running Amon's RA? I can't find a tutorial on how to install that. I'm using Clockwork recovery, and I'm just not a fan... I hated it on my Hero! =)

It wouldn't work. So I had to go old school, and flash the recovery image. Thanks so much, this is so much nicer!
Chuck, how's the progress?
You can also flash Amons RA when you run Unrevoked 3.21.

Thanks for all the help. I went ahead and rooted using unrevoked3 without updating. Worked great. Next I'll work on the update

Oops.. guess I'm too late, but for anyone else wondering, I would say do all the updates up to 3.29 so everything is latest.. radios etc. Then root and make a nandroid. Now you have rooted 3.29 stock, which is a good place for first time rooters to start. Also this way you keep all your data if rooted stock is all you want.
All I am interested in is Wireless tethering on stock android. Is it possible to do the OTA update no that i am rooted and then root again using Unrevoked? Thanks for the help...Chuck

Make a nandroid, then try and do the OTA. See what happens. If it goes through, you'll lose root, so just re-root and install wireless tether and you're done. If not, you'll have to grab a stock rooted rom and latest radios/wimax and flash them all, then add the wireless tether app.
I would have advised updating. It would get you the updated radio and wimax in a more proper fashion.

Thanks I am not a complete noob, I have worked with the vibrant, epic, captivate, mytouch 4g and hd2, so things are somewhat similar. Are there any solid froyo roms? From what I saw any thread that mentioned froyo are alpha or beta.
Also is this the correct process just to be 100% clear:
root
get rom manager and flash clockwork recovery through rom manager
flash rom
Yes. But you missed two steps.
1. Installing clockwork recovery is more involved on this pda. You need to download a patch for clockwork recovery and flash it using odin. (hitting the flash button in RM copies an update.zip to your sd card, which is important too but not the only step)
Use this guide or equivalent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
2. Also, before you install your first ROM, always perform a backup through Rom Manager or recovery first! You should always know a route back to stock.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.
Thanks. I can not believe that fascinate users only have alpha froyo builds! I got rid of my vibrant because I had enough with froyo.

You can thank Samsung for the delays, since they released almost useless source code for the radio interface layer (RIL) for the Fascinate. It took combined efforts of jt1134 and punk.kaos to reverse engineer a working RIL to get as far as they have. Now that there's been a leak of an official Froyo update, including a new kernel, I imagine we'll be seeing beta releases sometime in the near future. Oh, and don't forget that GB is being worked on as well.

1) root the device and turn s=off. Threads in the development section
2) visit the Cyanogen mod CM7 thread
[sent via Cyanogen powered Android]
Root your phone via one of the many available methods although the gfree has seemed to have some issues. I'd recommend visionary method. Once you have root and have S-off install Rom manager via the market and flash clockwork (and correct me if I'm wrong as I get confused a lot with recoveries build #'s lol) mod recovery version 2.5.1.2, 3.0.0.5 or 3.0.0.6. 3.0.0.6 is the best available currently. After flashing clockwork in Rom manager (its the first thing that pops up) scroll to download Rom and download cyanogen mod 7 rc4 from that menu. (You will have finished downloading the rom and have booted into recovery by now) MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE PRECEDING. Then Wipe data and cache via recovery and then go to install zip via SD card then choose it again find the .zip file for cm7 and hit install. It WILL take awhile to install. After it finishes reboot. Again this will take awhile. Once it comes up, wait 3 minutes or so then reboot. Then set up and your good to go. Once you've done that its basically rinse repeat for other roms. But remember to read the roms flashing instructions before hand as it may have some wacky process for flashing. Good luck!

Not to nitpick, but 3.0.2.4 is the latest version. It just came out the other day, so that's probably why you're not aware.
EDIT: To the OP, like neidlinger said, your first step is to root. This is the guide I followed and it works great: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858021.

Once you're finished with that tutorial, you'll be rooted and have a custom recovery installed. At that point, create a Nandroid backup, and then wipe all three items in the recovery menu and install the custom ROM. There is no direct Nexus S port to the MT4G, but CM7 and RoyalGinger are essentially the same thing, and in fact better, so check those out in the dev section.
Hey there, my friend has a shift and has not updated it to GB. He wants it rooted and I want to do it for him. I am good with the HBOOT and flashing roms with HTC. I was just wondering if there are any rooted stock roms or any rooted kernals I could flash without having to go thru one of those rooting programs. Much more comfortable flashing from Hboot lol.
THANKS
how to root " RUU_Speedy_S_Sprint_WWE_2.76.651.4_Radio_1.08.00.0 506_NV_SPCS_1.88"
If he is still on the shipped 2.2 ROM then you can use the perm root instructions found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932153and then use rom manager to flash your recovery and there are optimized stock ROMS like MikShift V1.1 and BCnice20 has some great kernels.

These might help you out. Seems a little intimidating a first, but read it through a few times. ou should be able to do it no issues. Here's a few links that should help walk you through attaining root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932153
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934165
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005133
This last link is for a sort of automated way of gaining root. I have used it with, and it works. But I still prefer the long method of rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976605
I think he's asking if there are any roms he can flash through HBOOT instead of using a recovery. And the answer would be no. Are you scared to flash a recovery? Its easy as pie.

So I finally decided to install a custom rom on my MyTouch 4G (HTC Glacier), and after a lot of research I found out that IceColdSandwich is probably the best one to use (can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629962 )
First off: If there is a better 4.0.x rom out there and I haven't found it...PLEASE direct me to it!
But now I'm stuck. IceColdSandwich has no instructions on how to do this.
I am running the stock T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Gingerbread 2.3.4 with HTC Sense 2.1 and I haven't modified the phone in any way.
Now what to do? How to properly root it and how to install the rom?
I need step by step instructions otherwise I am likely going to screw up somewhere and I can't afford a new phone
So if anyone is willing to invest some time to help me please reply.
P.S.: What would be the best 4.1 (JellyBean) rom i should be keeping an eye on (as in what rom is most likely going to be the best choice to update to when it's ready)?

Use that guide to downgrade and root.
Once you are rooted with S-OFF and have a custom recovery installed, download your ROM of choice, reboot to recovery, make a nand backup, wipe data, cache and system (minimum) and install the zip from sd card.

you must downgrade before rooting and upgrading ROMs. My phone is 2.3.4 when I bought it too and I tried many guides but it's just didn't work. Only downgrade to 2.2 makes it way to install other ROMs
