N1 automatically turns on USB storage when connected

It didn't use to do it, but after Froyo I guess, it automatically turns on usb storage when I connect usb. Both on mac and windows machine. It's actually very annoying! Any one else? Solution?

Charge only problem... I think

I'm not exactly sure this is a problem; maybe someone can help. No matter which setting I put my phone in "Charge only" or "Disk Drive" when I connect it to my Windows Vista machine it still mounts the SD card as removable storage. It also mounts the internal storage as well but I am not able to explore that (just says insert disk when I click on it).
I have rooted and flashed the custom recovery but I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. I don't remember how it acted before.
EDIT: Okay I figured something out. When I plug in the USB, no matter the setting in Settings > Connect to PC > Default Connection Type, it will always mount the SD card. However when I change the setting while its still plugged in it will mount / unmount normally. Weird.

I had the same problem, and traced it to doubletwist forcing a USB mount as default configuration. Start by checking that.

That was my issue too. Glad you tracked it down.. was driving me nuts.
In the car dock I couldn't figure out why it kept trying to set my deck to USB Devices when I was trying to use Bluetooth streaming.
Heh. Doubletwist... I just uninstalled it.

You can still keep it if you want. There is a setting in Doubletwist that is checked by default called "Auto USB drive" that you can un-check to fix this problem.

[Q] Phone connects like a drive, but says "charge only".

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. It's probably a setting, but I can not seem to find it.
Here is my problem:
When I put my phone to charge, using USB connected to a computer, the phone will state "Charge Only", but the PC will show the drive pop-up, and connects as a drive. This means I can not per default use the SD card AND have the phone charging, unless I change the phone menu to "Disk Drive" and then back to "Charge only".
I never had this problem with my HTC Hero.
Does anyone know how I can get this to just connect as it's supposed to?

Have you tried a different computer? I used to have this problem with my K800i on one of my computers. Other computer worked fine.

You using any flavour of Linux? I notice this on linux, but not on my windows system.

I run Win7 at home and I believe a flavor of WinNT at work, and I have the problem both places.
I wonder if I choose the "don't ask again" option and select charge only - will that fix it? If it doesn't, how do I reverse to always ask again?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, maybe I don't call it an issue, cause sometimes is usefull...
Dont' know why, but a few days now, my DHD has also having this behavior...
I have it on all my pcs, home work laptop.... , all of them are running Win7 x64
And no matter what I choose, Charge only or HTC Sync, it always mount the sdcard on PCs...

someone said winamp automounts when connected. Have any of you got winamp installed on your DHD?

I think it was that. I disabled the option on winamp. Have test more times if it happens again...

i too had alot of problems accessing my sd card in win7 x64.. it used to show the disk drive but the icon for it was a bit transparent (like a hidden file).. i could not access the drive at all!!.. i played around a bit with the setting and solved my problem.. its not exactly the same problem your having but you could give it a try and see how it goes.
i have "usb debugging" enabled
default connection type ( in conect to pc option) "Disk drive"
then disable " fast boot" option and restart the phone.. it will take about a minute or so to start up now instead of the 5 second reboot.. im not sure if the fast boot skips a few non essential apps.. but as soon as i restarted my phone and plugged it in everything has been perfect.. put hundreds of pics and mp3 files on and off and it works everytime.. hope this helps.. let us know how you get on

it is one of the media players you have installed... winamp, poweramp, cube, doubletwist.... I had the same issue and it was the media players....

Problem Mounting/Transferring Files from PC

I'm a new Atrix owner having just switched from a 3GS. I love the phone so far but am having 1 problem I can't seem to find the answer to... so I am hoping someone can help.
For some reason, on my home PC, when I connect via USB, I can only see the phone's internal storage. On my work PC, I can only see the SD card. And the most annoying, everytime I disconnect from the the PC, all my call and notification ringtones are reset.
One thing... I didnt really pay much attention the first time I connected the phone and I let it install the Motorola software. So the Moto Helper has been autostarting the Motorala Media Link when I connect.
Does anyone have any idea what I am missing? It a quirky little thing but it's killing me. Any advice is much appreciated.

Well, for the Motorola Media Link, on your computer you can go into your Programs in the Start menu and in the Motorola folder there will be an "Uninstall" option which will remove Media Link and it will not reinstall after that. I did the same thing.
With the internal/external storage, have you tried selecting "USB Mass Storage" under the USB Connections?
And for the settings changing, I don't know.

Go to settings - SD Card & storage
All the way at the bottom you can change the storage location. It will only sync with one storage location at a time.

That only applies to Windows Media Sync. If you use "USB Mass Storage" you can mount both internal and external at the same time. The internal should show up as "MB860" and the external will show up as "Removable Storage"

Cannot connevt to any media device via usb

Hello..i find it impossible to connect/mount my galaxy s as removable device to any of my dvd players,car ,stereos as removable device..it works on pc..i do not understand why..my desire,desire z, couldd be mounted and read just fine on all of those devices..i have on usb settings set for mass storage instead of kies and tried with debugging both on/off..no idea why..very very frustrated...this could be reason enough for me to give up the device.i use this feature alot..

Is there any way to ONLY mount the external SD card when mounting as mass storage?That would solve all of my problems..

Well, I think no known solution till date. A composite usb device, not plain mass stroage device!

Well maybe this can help to solve this, once i conected it to my car stereo, i was triying to conect it when i got an error end process of the usb conector it got stick on the display bar and when i reconected it worked, i never could make it again..... But ís posible i did it....

But mine, car stereo doesn't detect other usb-flashs. Choppy stereo, i know.
