Google video works on vibrant - Vibrant General

I'm not sure if anyone is interested but the other day i realized that the samsung vibrant is the first phone without 10.1 flash that plays videos from videos dot google dot com. They blocked that website from my job so we wouldn't eat up their data but it actually plays the video on the Vibrant! It's not the clearest picture but that's so cool it works with an old version of flash within the stock browser. and I didn't see this topic in the forums so I created this for a tip. lol so all of the evil people keep your smart comments to yourself.

I get a blank page
Doesn't work for me. All I get is a blank page.

DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS NEW BROWSER, A MUST FOR PDA OWNERS WITH DATA PLAN:
www.SKYFIRE.com
Watch The Intro On The Home Page
It's kinda nice, but it's another of the page through a proxy as an image browsers. The page is reformatted on their servers and then sent to the phone.
This has been around. It is in a Beta right now that you have to sign up for and be invited to. Been waiting months for the invite and basically giving up. Getting mixed reviews.
This is kinda old news. I have the beta of skyfire, it actually works fairly well. I have several wishes/bug fixes that I sent to skyfire, but overall it is fairly fast and pretty much plays any website you can navigate to.
I still use opera for most of my daily browsing, but I hope that skyfire gets better after the beta testing.
Skyfire
i got the skyfire download but everytime i've tried to browse..it keep saying that the network was lost eventhough i have data plan, i can browse internet with opera mobile 8.5
thanx
I didnt like it....will stick with Opera and PIE+
Meh, I just got the beta2 today. I'm not too impressed with it so far. There's lots of great things incorporated into it, but when you try to flow through pages you just can't do it. When a page loads, you have to zoom into it before you can enter text into any field.
I like to get online, do what I need to do, and get off--bam--finished. This new beta makes it very hard to do that. I've looked for ways to fix it this in its menus, but I just can't find anything. If someone knows how to fix it, let me know .
The things I love about it most are you can get on java based sites, watch embedded video, and hear embedded audio.
All in all, I'd have to say this is just a so-so browser. Great for the casual user who is multi-media focused.
I have the beta as well and I'll stick with opera 9.5. Plus I'd rather not do password work through a proxy server.
I use mini more. But sky is nice for some things. Mini is faster for me....beter syncing. rss. better rendering. better ui. sky does flash.
I just downloaded Sky today, I was let into the beta. And I will say that it's a little harder to use then the other browsers, but in making up for that. It actually delivers on what it says. I can't watch youtube on PIE or opera. I can on Sky, once flash is in the other browsers, Sky will have nothing, but until I find a browser that can play flash.. This rocks for all kinds of things, last.fm, and youtube are great, though I hate the zoom, and it needs some kind of volume control built into the browser.
Opera mobile when it is fully released will have flash. Last.fm plays better with pocket scrobbler. Hit me up over IM and I can send u a cab.
I actually like skyfire, but i noticed I can't go to any .Net sites. Whats up with that? Anyone?
Just got the beta this weekend
Good:
Renders pages well
Plays flash movies
Bad:
Stupid long startup time
Retarded "First you need to zoom!" UI concept. Just awful. Really awful
Text doesn't go into textbox, pops up for input.
Pretty much zero configuration
They should just rename this this to what it is: Streaming online pron viewer.
If they cut the start up time in 1/2, eliminated the need to zoom first (Start in desktop view, tap + hold to bring up the zoom box), and let you customize the way the interface works, they could have a winner. As it is now, Im suprised they consider this even a beta. It has nothing more than core funcitonality, which is more alpha to me.
anybody else get the feeling that even though the page load itself is pretty quick the browser on the whole sorta lags
I downloaded it tried it uninstalled it. it was a memory hog, makes you sign in every time (why can't it remember user information?), it's another one of those we reformat the web for you portals.
Crashed on my device almost immediately.
Got my E-mail yesterday and it works great. It uses a lot of memory though. But so far I like it.
another browser that will require money
I don't get these browsers, instead of updating HTML tags via the W3C we get these browsers that reformat pages before delivering them to the PPC.
I installed this, tried it, had it first complain about memory issues, then crashed when I tried to open the crosswords link on the NY Times page, and uninstalled it.
What exactly are the memory requirements for this thing?
Some specs would be nice.
It's not something I'm going to use.

ROTFLMAO, streaming online pron viewer. BWAAAWBWAAA
I love this program. It's awesome. It does have some limitations others have noted, but if you're looking to stream media, or view a page as it's shown on a PC it's the way to go.
If you're looking to USE a webpage, read, etc, I'd rather use pIE. But I like having both.
I love that it can play ANY streaming media I've thrown at it and look / sound great.
If you haven't already, check out this streaming media site: http://www.hulu.com
It has full episodes of many online shows, with very limited ads, for free! No signup! it's sponsored by NBC and FOX and it's 100% legit. It works GREAT in Skyfire!
Finally
A browser that does all. Opera+PIE+Skyfire. I can now with all three do everything I need to lol. Lets see if firefox can integrate the three. or someone.

The Best Way to Download Youtube Videos (GUARANTEED)

I have finally discovered the best method to download youtube videos in the highest quality in playable format on our G1's.
I will update this as frequently as I can to make sure it stays current/works properly.
Alright, so steps 1 and 2 only need to be done one time.
1st: Go to the market and download MyBookmarks.
2nd: Open it, click import your bookmarks (type in 0420420420 when asked for your phone #)
Simply import the bookmark! (one by one or all at once)
3rd: Just go to the youtube page of choice on your stock browser, and once on it go to your bookmarks. Find and click the new bookmark (usually at the very bottom) called "YouTube Downloader".
Thats it. It'll instantly start downloading.
If you would like to rename the file, get a file manager such as ASTRO from the market. For Astro open it up, find the file in /sdcard/downloads and long press it. Then choose edit and rename..
Don't forget to 5* Rerwares great apps! Show them some support
Also Steel functionality has been added.
1. Go to www.xblight.com/tube.html on your steel browser.
2. Since copy and paste doesnt work too well on steel, do this. Hold down shift (arrow facing up, bottom left of keyboard) and start moving the trackball around until the code it all highlighted. Then hold down the track ball and copy all.
3. Now simply add a new bookmark and paste that in the bottom portion.
4. Now just do it the same way as before. Go to a youtube video page and click on the bookmark.
The good thing about the steel method is that it lets you rename the file on the fly
If you are on the youtube application, watching a video, and suddenly decide you want to download it, do the following. Hit menu -> share. Long press the link and copy all. Then just paste it in the URL hit enter, and click on your bookmark =)
I've also added several things which you can see below in the changelog.
Don't try to do it any other way, the steel code does NOT work in the stock browser and vice versa.
E-mail me at [email protected] with any suggestions or problems.
Changelog:
1.0 - Works and downloads the very highest available quality.
1.1 - Quick fix. Found out that our g1's don't like to play the HD videos so now it gets the highest quality that isn't HD.
1.2 - Now it will check to see if you are actually on a youtube video page. If not itll redirect you to the youtube homepage. (Code altered to work on steel)
1.3 [1-3-09] - It now gives you a message right before you redirect so you know whats going on =P. Also the name was changed to YouTube Downloader.
Enjoy!
Where does it store the stuff you Download? Just wondrin...
EDIT - Never mind - I had a go and it goes in the downloads folder on the sdcard an d it works WONDERFULLY!! Thanks for this
Dais xx
I have no clue how you got that to work but great job!
Can't you just cut/paste the bookmark here instead of us needing to get it from that saved bookmark via the import bookmark program?
My guess is it must just be a URL to a site that uses the previous URL you were at (I think it's called the Referrer URL)?
I would but it doesnt work.
If you copy and paste the code in a bookmark on android it'll instantly add http:// to the beginning.
The code is in javascript and adding http:// will render it useless.
This is the only way around it.
Plus its quicker for everyone
so you are just changing the url on the fly?
can it be done with a simple http referrer check?
if you are one of the people who setup one of those sites I think you could do it that way and then it would work from any browser/phone/pc without javascript
1. goto youtube.com/foo?goo=hoo&ioo=joo
2. goto someutubehack.com/getmedavid
3. script getmedavid looks at the referrer which is the url in 1
4. script getmedavid gets the vid and sends it back to you
5. you save it
6. profit! (sorry I read to much /.)
Yeah,
That works, but this way is the quickest way for android phones.
And yea, it just changes the url on the fly,
and if the video has HD available, it gets that version.
Meaning best quality every time =)
Go to the URL in my first post.
There are several methods to do the same thing.
This rocks! Thanks for sharing...
I had previously used another method for downloading, but how does it get any easier than this? You just hit Youtube, find the video, and hit the bookmark.
Only downside is needing to rename the video after download, but that's the same as with any PC-based downloader as well.
worked like a charm
EDIT- So do you have to go through step 2 again everytime? I had to because i couldnt find the "DL Youtube Video" bookmark in my bookmarks..??
If you downloaded it within the past 6-7 hours it will be called Youtube Downloader.
I updated it last night and found that name more fitting.
EDIT: New instructions added check above.
am I crazy or is mybookmarks gone from the market? Lost it when I did a wipe installing 1.41
You're carzy! hehe
I just literally downloaded it from the Market myself... maybe do a search.

Hey fyi 0420420420 no longer has the bookmark. Can you reup it or give a similar solution like you gave to steel users? It was working earlier today but I went to jf1.41 and forgot to save it. Thx
Use the steel link and copy the code and save it to your own bookmarks and upload it to your own number in mybookmark. I just did this and it worked. Plus now you have your own personal copy.
Yes, it appears someone has replaced the bookmark.
I put it back up, still 0420420420.
Don't know why anyone would do that.
Also, the steel code does NOT work with the stock browser.
The easiest and basically only way to get this working on the stock browser is like this.
sweet another reason to get sidetracked at work. good stuff.
Yea don't pay any attention to me. Whoa I got 2 now I'm on a row baby. Well thanks for this anyways, I can't stop downloading from youtube.

Thanks for the update, but is it really that easy to change a book mark, what a crappy way to set up that app then...
btw, you may want to tell people to do it one by one. cause when your old 420 bookmark was overwritten, there were about 25 bookmarks. i did one by one, and went thru each one hoping that yours was still there, but it'd be a total pain in the ass if you imported all 25 and had to delete them
thanks this is great. i love the fact that it downloads in mp4 format which is great for easy importing into your computer.
I just never thought anyone would overwrite mine.
So sad
I'm gonna talk rerware and see if theres a way to lock it.
EDIT: RERWARE IS GOING TO LOCK 0420420420!

Cellspin app

does anyone have any history with this app? I downloaded it because I was looking for a way to quickly blog pictures and videos i take while out. I downloaded the cell spin app b/c it does that with a ton of services. Everything is fine except I can never get it to show the videos I have taken. It never finds them, and I even switched the format a few times. Anyone who has used this program got any tips?
I've never used that app, I use Qik for that type of thing, it's free and looks like the same exact idea.
Are you sure the app is pointed to the folders the videos get saved to? Some apps require you to manually tell them where to find stuff like that, especially if it's on the SD card.
i do use qik for streaming video, but this is different. This is more of a blogging tool. I should be able to update videos and pic to my blog, but it cant seem to find any of my videos. I ded just see that this phone is not officially supported on their site though

Yeah, looking over that list of supported phones, it looks like they gave up on winmo development quite a while ago...it looks like some of those are WM 6.1 devices, I don't see any that run 6.5, so that may be the issue.
I haven't used those features, I just thought qik could upload existing videos from your phone to most any blogging site (I know it can do it to their own site...you can pick stored videos instead of a live stream).
true. I was looking more for an all in one blogging platform. I'm using the livejournal app now,its coll but still very buggy.

My Kindle Fire Review (after 12 hours usage)

My experience: I have an iPad1, iPad2, HP Touchpad, and three Archos 5" Android tablets... So not too much of a n00b.
Keyboard: The keyboard doesn’t always work for me.. When I first got it, every time I hit the spacebar, it would automatically go down two lines.. And when I hit the delete button, it would go back one space, then it would stop deleting and just repeat the same letter over and over.. While testing this, the Fire crashed.. and when it reset, the keyboard worked better without these issues.. but I still had a lot of typing mistakes as it would be too sensitive.. (kinda crazy that the Fire crashed in the first hour I opened it while typing up an email)
Video: Playing videos from Amazon Prime was fast and sweet! Amazon made it very easy to watch their videos on the Fire. I have not tested MP4 videos I have made for my iPad yet.. Because of size restrictions, I may not do this.
Home screen: Why can you not change the "last viewed" stuff on the top of the Fire.. this is horrible.. I came to work today and of course everyone wants to play with my new Fire.. so they could all see every single website, book, PDF, movie, etc I had viewed last night.. and now because they played with it, I have all the stuff they viewed there as well now.. There should be some sort of incognito mode.. I know this is a personal tablet, but whether someone is behind me when I am in the home screen or someone picks up my tablet at my apartment.. I don't need them seeing what I have been looking at.
Apps: There are a nice amount of apps available already for the Fire.. BUT.. why can’t I remove the apps that the Fire came with? Also, the PDF viewer that comes with the tablet is no good. I side loaded some PDF magazines into the Fire, and they were unreadable on the screen (all jaggy). I then installed the Adobe PDF viewer from the Amazon Market, and the text is much better.. but zooming in and out on a 7” tablet does not make for smooth reading. And why don’t the PDF thumbnail the first page images? The iPad does this right away… all you see on the Fire is the text name of the PDF written over a white sheet. Lastly, I installed Touchdown for the Fire (as the built in email does not include MS Exchange support).. and it works well..except that the client does NOT sync while it is not open.. What the heck is that??
Web: Loading pages like Gizmodo.com was quick.. but it was another issue reading the site.. scrolling down was very jerky and slow.. I know the page is long, but most tech blogs are.. and that is what I would like to read in the back of a cab.
Misc: I wish there were hardware sound control… It would make playing videos/music easier to control, as well as offering page up/page down control for reading. The Fire is a bit heavy and thick.. but for $200, u can’t complain.. I will probably keep using my iPad for reading websites and PDFs… and using the Fire for books and Amazon prime videos.
If anyone knows how to fix the issues above, please let me know.. I know that there is a root out now for the Fire, but I am hoping that there are faster/smoother solutions.
I was able to side load a .m4v file on the Fire, but it wouldn't play until I renamed it .mp4.
The videos were HQ rips for my iPad so that worked great.
I agree on the last item viewed being on the shelf. Wish there was a way clearing that.

On my Nexus I use Mobiplayer and I can control volume by swiping on the screen. I wonder if you load (or sideload) Mobi or a similar video player if you can get this. Anyone know or can anyone check?
Thanks for the review!
the source code will save us!!!

Yes I sideloaded Mobiplayer and the soft volume swiping does work for the Fire. So at least for video playback I can live without a hardware key. Btw I need to enable software decoding by default or some files won't play... maybe I needed to install a Mobi codec but I don't know which one works. Maybe someone can point me to the right direction...
Cheers,
W.
Agree with you. I'm facing same problem.
I installed Swiftkey and feel it is much better than the Amazon default keyboard.
You can remove the items from the Carosel. Refer to instructions at http://mazurk.net/KindleFire.htm
It's a fun toy and I'm glad I didn't pay anything for it (won it at an office raffle) but I'm still kind of lost as to what I'm gonna use it for as I have an iPad 2. Still, I'm having a blast trying to mess with it and hopefully gonna get TWRP installed here soon.

Disable Youtube animated thumbnails in Oreo Upgrade??

I've recently taken the OTA upgrade to Oreo.
As you all know this brings along with it, a new version of YouTube.
Not sure how others feel but I find the animated thumbnails very distracting.
So does anyone know of a way to stop them or maybe a link to the old YouTube app that does not have this annoying feature?
Thanks all for your help.
I hate them too. You can go to their support forum and complain but their ADHD inflected developers seem to need the constantly animated nonsense. They've been rolling it out across all their clients. PS4, AppleTV and now Android TV. Sucks.
I ended up side loading an alternative client called "Smart Youtube TV" that is blissfully free of animated thumbnails (so far).
You'll have to bing it because it looks like I can't post links yet.
