Okay. I've had my T-Mobile TP2 since the day they released in NA. I did a little of messing around with cabs and themes back then, but then kinda left the scene. I'm back now, and have quite a few questions. If you could answer ANY of these, I'd be most grateful.
Is there a way to uninstall the crappy Opera that comes with the phone? The 10 beta is infinitely better.
Is there a way to change the bookmarks that are listed on the Launch Browser tab? Or did Windows just assume that every person likes Youtube, CNN, ESPN, and Facebook?
What is causing my phone to slow down so badly? When I first got it, it ran like the roadrunner, but now its chugging at everything. I delete my texts and photos on a constant basis and the device has over 100mb onboard memory left; most of my apps go to my SD card.
Is there a program as good as Google Maps that supports voice, turn-by-turn GPS other than Nav4All? [which I hated]
Is there any Facebook apps that are as good and CURRENT [where's my like button, clown?] as the Blackberry/iPhone apps? If not, what is the best one available?
Is there anyway to zoom on the Camera...? The T-Mobile Dash [HTC Excalibur] had several levels of zoom, and this seems to have none?
How do you get the weather to appear on your home page, similar to this link: http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/8783/screen06.png [doesn't have to be exactly like that, I just want it on the homepage.]

I have the T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2 as well and there's only one Facebook app I've seen and thats in the marketplace.
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-official-facebook-app.html
you can download this one from here if you don't have the marketplace.
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-facebook-mobile-by-smarttouch.html
and I don't know how this one works but it says that you don't need a data plan.
That facebook app is the one I had. It's absolutely awful. Thank you for letting me know they haven't gotten a new one yet though.
O ok. Yeah its not that good I don't like it either but I'd rather have that than nothing. I hope they update it.
[I'll have a go at a couple of them, but I think you should look at flashing with a custom ROM which will solve nearly all of the problems

That could be a part of your problem. Program access from the memory card is slow on my TP2

Tomtom works really well once tweaks listed at the top of this board are done

This is in the new versions of manilla 2.5 and some of the 2.1 versions. You will need to flash to use them, tho'
EDIT: Ark's Xperia panels have a nice facebook app, well its better than the MS one anyway! The panels work but my device slowed down too much with them loaded

A. Is TomTom free?
B. How do I "flash w/a ROM?"
C. Thanks.
On the camera question, there is a zoom capability, while in camera mode, slide your finger on the zoom bar and you will see another on-screen zoom bar come up and the image should zoom in (depending which way you are sliding your finger). All of this is digital zoom though, but the feature is there.
Been searching since I got my HD2, that is 2 months ago now: there is apparently no way to record video in background on this phone, and it is absurd.
I basically need it as a car black box system, to work together with mp3 player and navigation/gps tracking software.
I found a russian pay software that should do exactly that, together with gps overimposing of current speed, but "garbled" is the best adjective to describe it with when installed on the HD2.
I tried QIK and LiveCLIQ, but they do no support HD2 officially, nor the cab that I downloaded for the touchpro2 worked.
Is that possible that the only software able to effectively record video on the HD2 is the builtin HTC camera, which is less than optimal in settings, and is not able to record in background? (even went through all its keys in HKLM and HKCU, but nothing interesting there).
Could any of you suggest a working solution, even if I am widely losing any hope since google didn't turn up anything during all this time?
I am looking for a solution also, tried the russian software too and it was not usable at all. Found a thread about a backgrounding app but doubt it will be any good. So the search continuous. Hope something can be found.
you could still point me to that thread, you never know
I also think that's not feasible because as soon as the camera app loses the focus it seems to stop recording, and that's silly to say the least... but trying won't hurt anyway, at least for the time being, until another app is released.
Depressing that Android is so young and it's already got its freeware car blackbox software, which is even better (on the paper) than the russian pay software.
new version of LiveCLIQ works
hi!
they released a new version (r5075) which finally woks for my HD2.
Find the app here: at LiveCLIQ homepage and select "HTC Touch HD T8282".
Best
good news, will go check right now
Highly disappointed about livecliq:
forces landscape mode... htc camera shows as landscape, but the system is still in portrait, while livecliq actually rotates the display
resources hog, and slow as hell: while the HTC camera displays the images almost realtime as you move the viewport, livecliq lags considerably, and looks more like a fast slideshoq than a real video; while recording, you can put it in background with hide, but the rest of the system is pretty much unuseable from how much slow it is
generally useless for "our" purposes; sure, being able to upload or strem the videos directly online may be a good thing for those who are intrerested, but the developers decided to lock the program to just that function, as the video is recorded as a chain of 1MB max segments in "raw" format, and is not watchable offline
you cannot choose the save location, offline videos are saved under the install folder, which means hell for those who always install to internal memory, and keep the storage card for what it's meant, that it, storage
so well, livecliq is a no go, HTC camera is still the best if only it worked in background.
I'm thinking of getting an i9000, but have a few questions. I'll be honest from the start: I'm not much into tech.
My main purposes for this phone will be: 1. reading e-books, 2. a secondary internet device at home, 3. making phone calls and sending text messages. What makes me even stranger is that I don't want a data plan or any 3G services. Most of what I plan to do will be WiFi at home (although the option is there to get a data plan should I change my mind or find some use for it). I know about the GPS problem, but I don't think I have use for a GPS anyway. Music is not important to me, so I doubt I'd have more than a handful of MP3s I'd ever want listen to; movies and TV shows are a must; games are of no interest to me; photos are more of a perk than a necessity. I love, Love, LOVE the Super AMOLED screen, which is why I'm leaning towards this one rather than the HTC Desire.
1. The 8GB version is 2,000TWD (approx. 60USD) cheaper, which is worth it to me. Given my intended usage and the extra cost, why should I realistically consider the 16GB version? I'll have to buy an SD card anyway, won't I?
2. I still don't understand that thread about the device not having or not being able to see the full 512MB of RAM. How does this impact the performance? How does Froyo address this issue? Am I likely to notice any impact given my intended usage?
3. What is Launcher Pro, and why do some people feel it is better than TouchWiz?
4. I'm in a geographic area that doesn't have access to paid apps (Taiwan). However, there is a workaround. Given my intended usage, what paid apps would you suggest?
5. I'll have to hook up wireless internet at home (I'm running Windows XP on my PC). Without going into too much detail, what equipment and services will I need to set this up for both my PC and phone to share?
I know this may be a lot to ask. Feel free to just address one question if you like. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks.
the SD card is optional, but definitely wort it to have more storage, if you plan to have a large MP3 and Video collection on the road with you
then leave the internal 8 GB SD for application use.
if you ever install a GPS software, it will automatically eat up 2 GB in one shoty
the 8 GB is really 6 GB, because 2 GB is used for ROM software, the remaing is aprox 5 GB of usable space
if you load a GPS software that goes down to 3 GB of free space, and some games downloads a few Hundreds of a MB to play, so games require a full 1GB... anyways it adds up really quickly.
Thanks. GPS is not important for me, nor are MP3s. Any video I watch will most likely be uploaded, watched, and removed within hours. I'll be reading on it if I'm ever on the road.
Looks like I'll be leaning towards the money-saving 8GB one.

If I were you, I'd almost definitely go with the 8GB. I think the main reason is that, my plan would be to store my e-books on the external sd card, so if my battery or device died I could easily move them to my pc or next device.
Besides that, I'd suggest, as much as I love my device. Thinking about iPhone 4 or the Dell Streak (if you can get them wi-fi only) and/or a Kindle (not great for internet, #2 on your list, but you'd also save money). IPhone 4 will, probably, be a better reading experience, I can't be sure. Dell Streak has 25% more screen real estate, it also has gorilla glass. Downsides being it's not Super AMOLED, I don't think it's wirelss N, probably has less battery life and is currently stuck on 1.6, though I think 2.1 is imminent.
Not trying to convince you to get a different device, I wouldn't trade my phone for either of the two devices mentioned above.
To answer your other questions, I'd think about:
E-book software...I'm not sure if this is your first e-reader. Kindle, Aldiko might be the two most popular (doesn't mean best).
I'd get brut maps because it'll cache Google Maps pages to your SD card so you won't need data but can still use Google Navigation, My Tracks (I think? can't remember), and Google Maps if you ever have the need (you'll need to look at the areas from your wifi first to get the pages to cache).
I'd probably get a wi-fi analyzer, wi-fi analyzer works well for me.
For your case, thats the majority of what I'd get. I'd think about looking into getting Flash enabled instead of waiting for FroYo if my phone's second functionality would be web surfing.

Also, spend money on your saved 8GB into extra 2-3 batteries, it's more important for your purposes than 8GB. I can nearly guarantee.
ALL I CAN SAY IS DEFINITELY GET ONE...
I have been using mine constantly for the last few days or so since I sold my Iphone 3gs and before that came from a touch HD2, windows phone.
I can't believe I didn't go across to the android world sooner to be honest and I think I have at last made the right choice of phone, this galaxy S is simply a joy to use, I love it.
I have 7 completely customisable screens that you can scroll between I bought beautiful widgets (highly recommend this) just simply because I am hooked to these widget things. I have Beautiful Live weather wallpaper which displays some grass waving about at the bottom of the screen and clouds with sun, rain etc..moving perfectly acrosseach of the 7 screens, I know this is all old hat to some of the longer Android users, but for me I Love it...I have also bought the Pure calender widget which displays all your up and coming appointments etc...this again is completely skin-able, brilliant...seconds screen has some of my shortcuts to applicaitons, live UK TV guide, market, appbrain market, maps, zedge, calc, youtube and mail, my third screen has all these toggle widgets to quickly turn on airplane, wifi, bluetooth, sound controls, volume and battery, Screen number 4 has my Days dairy which I quite like, screen number 5 has my feeds and updates which automatically updates my facebook and twitter stuff, then onto screen 6 with the BBC news and History widget, number 7 is blank so I can stare at the weather...
I can't seem to stop type , the Swype keyboard is just so easy and quick to use, I actually enjoy typing on a small screen these days, not that the Galaxy has a small screen in fact its the perfect screen and if your into reading books like I am, I am using the free Laputa ereader, simply import all your epubs into it, Aldiko comes already installed which is equally as good, but without the funky page turn effects. the screen is so clear reading books is very nice.
Will continue on later, got to get back to work for a bit....
no no no... if you moved to Android sooner, you would have not enjoyed it.
I was also waiting for the Perfect Phone, before moving to Android
If you moved to Android when it was Android 1.5 you would have most likely ended up hating it.
It was Raw, not many apps, phone hardware were rather not at part with the HTC hardware, etc.

Just recevied it US Dell streak yesterday, and the first thing I did was flash/root to Android 2.1. Everything went w/o a hitch. Boy this thing is amazing....Im come from an 8yr old Dell Axim running custom roms.
Couple of observations/questions:
When i was on "donut" and installed my sim. Up in the control panel for connections I saw the 3G/Edge/edge/gsm icons. Now that Im on the "eclair" i see a "H" above up/down arrows..cant tell which network im on 3g/edge.etc etc
What gives? Not an issue I can make calls and surf net, realitively quick d/l speeds. Just curious
Also the camera I dont have option to view the forward faceing cam...anyone else have this issue. Maybe will be addressed with official Streak Froyo release!!!
I watch alot of divx movies, so i loaded Rockplayer which works fine. But I like to stream video via Wifi over network share. I use Estrong file explorer and can browse to my movies folder. When i try to open it wont play, saying unsupported format..I think Streak/Estrong is trying to use default media player..how can I get it to use Rockplayer..is it possible
When both Wifi/Data connection are both enabled.....which takes priority for surfing net/market place d/l and such.. Dont really care since I have unlimited data plan, but I would think wifi would be first choice then data connection...can someone confirm.
Last but not least, Im a noob when it comes to Android...what are the advantages of Rooting streak. I see the Su program, but I have yet to install any apps which take advantage of "roooting"
Thanks....so far absolutely loving Streak...now to search for better keyboard..I liked the one on donut with arrow and number keys...any third party keyboards similar to tthe original keyboard
Cant wait till Froyo comes out!!!!!
- 'H' HSPA speed. Better than 3G
- Front facing camera...well this whole 2.1 is a rip off of a stock 2.1 Nexus One which didnt have a Front Facing camera. Im assuming this is gonna be added when the newer beta version comes out for 2.1. Otherwise, everything about this update smells like my good old Nexus One, from Gallery to the camera.
- root allows you to further customize your Streak to your liking because it gives you full permissions. Metamorph is a great tool for it. Root also allows you to tweak your processor according to your need. Unfortunately we cant overclock yet but underclocking to save battery is there. You'll also have more apps available to you from the marketplace. Also, once we have more developers creating ROMs, root can allow you to change ROMs. Different ROMs, different experience.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
i didnt know the 2.1 leak was a nexus one rom... even the one from mobileupdate.dell.com/Latestbuild/Latestbuild_21.html?
oh and just a little more clarification. H=HSPA=3.5G

Hello, As you all probably know the space for install files, basic settings etc is an issue for the Xperia PLAY; Other, newer phones out there have better space for installing applications, settings and images.
I use my phone for everyday use, along side another (X-Play) for my work life, (I love seeing peoples faces when they realise (If I can paraphrase) "I can haz games Consoole") I use my main phone, which in this instance is from herein "Phone-A" for every purpose from listening to music whilst jogging/at the gym, Texting, calling, "pinging" on various chat programs, editing documents, looking at pictures, surfing the net to Games and even occasionally taking photos.
Phone-B however is used solely used for making phone calls, emails and texting. Which Isn't much of an issue as its solely used for Work. I replaced that dreaded Wildfire when I had the funds, thank god.
My issue is that on Phone-A I'm having "Insufficient space!" messages almost EVERY SINGLE DAY. I've done everything I can bar deleting apps that I Use on a regular basis (Games, Music player etc) heres a list of the applications installed below;
ROOTED, 16GB Card
Homescreen - Nemus Launcher - 2.73Mb
Games -
SIMS 3
BRUCE LEE
CRASH BANDICOOT
BIA2
MODERNCOMBAT2
DRAG RACING
BIA2 FREE HD+ (??)
GT FREE+ HD
BLOOD AND GLORY
R6 HD
BFBC2
ASPHALT 6
NFS HOT PURSUIT
GTA3 10YR HD
ZOMBIEVILLE
MINECRAFT
Music - MIXZING - 8.11Mb
Web - DOLPHIN HD - 11.94Mb
I'm Rooted and not afraid to use it, if you can let me know of some files and applications to remove (Preferably non of the games, apart from GT,ZOMBIEVILLE & BIA) I don't mind doing it.
If you can also give me an alternative to the home screen, music player and webbrowser which are lightweight and yet still have full functionality that would be great! Music is a big part of my life, headphones go everywhere with my (I travel alot) I spend alot of time in the desert (Afg'n, iRagg) so these phones are sturdy and yet still VERY powerful in there capabilities.
I know theres alot of games but Hey, its a gaming phone why not game on it?
I have however removed some pre-installed crap that came on it but now I'm looking to lightweight my kit as I do my full kit when I'm working (I work in Close Protection, so a good phone is essential )

For the love of God, man... move them ****s to SD!
Also learn basic ADB navigation so you can move more to your SD card with the setInstallLocation 2 command.
Then check out THIS SAFE LIST so you can debloat your phone.
Do you have 2.3.3? If so, ditch that **** for 2.3.4. It's a difference as drastic as having a base of 250MB compared to 2.3.3's 180MB. It saves you a lot of pain in the ass dalvik-cache insanity, and FTF installers are too easy to use to take any BS.
With this checklist knocked out:
• Get FW 2.3.4
• ADB setInstallLocation 2
• Root
• Debloat
I've been able to cram 205 apps on this puny 400MB internal storage phone, and still have 140MB left.
Holy God damn, i'm running 2.3.2 I didnt even check :/
I just downloaded ZEAM which is 325Kb, which I'm happy with. But the above listed files, err Dolphin and Mixzing.. Err that is on Card!
I've DEBLOATED, Rooted but what is this ADB setinstall2? Is it moving apps from Phone to SD, like I can do in SuperManager?
If I update to 2.3.4 will I loose root?

ADB setinstall2 moves apps to SD automatically when installing i think
You will lose root if you use flashtool to update but OTA (over the air) you wont, even if you do lose root you can get it back easily using superoneclick
If your so worried about space why don't you partition 1gb off the card and use that for apps using Link2SD from the market, that saves phone memory and you'll never have to worry about space error messages again
I'll do a partition in a while, but at the moment I'm doing an OTA update.
I just had a Sh*t scare, looked down at my phone (On charge) and the blue update bar had disapeered and then the screen went black. Its back now though..
I always go with OTA, never touch flashtools unless I know what I'm truely doing (Give me a games console or PC any day!!)
Right so I've tried 3 times now Im getting a "Software could not update" message and its still not doing F'all So im stuck on 2.3.2 untill I can figure out why...
You probably deleted a system app/file. It won't update if that's the case. Just use flashtool. Get the .42 firmware put it in the firmware folder in flash tool, put phone into flash mode, flash, done. Easy
I ended up using the official Sony companion thingy bob, one word for this situation.
SNAFU.
Lost ROOT, added all sorts of crap included FIFA, star battalion, support etc ahhhh FUBAR.
Flash tool it is then if it can root..
EDIT:: I CAN HAZ R00T! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859, done done done! Thanks, Cool guys
Well done, pat on the back
Gratz to figuring it out. However, all this could be avoided in the future if n00bs would actually check out the threads already posted to see what options they have before posting. Just sayin'.
