Am i miss reading there site? I though it said it was only for the Evo and Hero? S-on that is
unrevoked forever has been through the following versions:
v1.0: initial release.
v1.1: S-ON, additional radio support for EVO, support for CDMA Hero
Those are just additions besides regular support for DInc and EVO, read their wiki, it answers pretty much everything (and what it doesn't can most likely be found here =).

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who contribute to this forum. I have been coming to XDA for months now. I have a HTC Touch Viva and have been coming here to get my roms for it. My brand spanking new G1 is going to arrive tomorrow. I have been reading up for the past 2 days on how to root my phone. I have decided to go with CyanogenMod v4.0.3 - stable(mostly cause the benchmarks I have seen). Since I dualboot linux and Vista I am going to partion my Transcend 8gb Class 6 SD card ahead of time. I am going to used the 1-click method. I have the newest radio and SPL ready to go. Just in case I want to change to a different rom(maybe hero). I think I read some where about a PVT and DVT board? Which one is newer? Which one is most likely to be in my new one?
Once again Thank You, you guys are awesome. And keep up the good work.
If you are in the us, it is must likely pvt but just go into the bootloader by pressing camera and power button and it is your first peice of info on there, set yourself up with a 96mb swap partion to set yourself up from the start
If I were you I would not do the one click method and use this guide.

You don't have to but seen people having issues with it.
I would like to say thanks to you ginronin. A lot of newcomers have been around here and they never want to read up or study anything. Asking us to give them customized instructions on how to get root and install hero roms. It is nice to know people are still willing to put some time and energy into this rather then wanting to be spoon fed.

Just in case you already downloaded the rom to be ready to go: Don't forget to go with Cyanogen 4.0.3.1. 4.0.3 has issues.
Thanks guys for all the advice. Cyanogen's mods keep updating so fast lol I was just about to flash the 4.0.3 lol. Thanks for all the help and advice.
DONE!!!
Thanks to this great Forum. I now have a ROOT G1!! running Cyanogenmod v4.0.3.1. I was afraid for a second but everything is good now. The one-click method worked like a charm. Thanks to all who were involved with making ROMs and building up this great community.
Is it possible to get android 2.0 on your HTC Hero on the Sprint Network. If so, could you give instructions on how I'm not all that technically advanced, any help would be much appreciated.

there is a mostly working 2.1 on here in the stickys ant the top on the forum as well as an ASOP 2.0 build but I would give it a few days to a week and now that the kernel source has been released the great devs here should have a fully working build very soon.
Thanks alot, is there much of a risk doing that?
No, Sprint has not release a newer version of Android for the Hero than 1.5.

As long as you flash a CDMA Hero ROM & install the custom recovery image, there isn't much risk.
Sprint has not released the 2.1 update for the Hero yet and does not have any confirmed date on when it will be available.
The devs here have several 2.x ROMS with partial functionality, and instructions on how to root your phone and flash them are usually on the first page of their respective threads. Also, check the wiki at the top. It's new and needs a little polish, but it's a repository for all ROMS and guides you'll need.
HTC just released the source code for the CDMA kernel, and with that the devs here should have a fully functional 2.x ROM soon.

This is the 2.1 Beta. But yeah just like wtphoto said. Give it some time before it gets fully furnished for day to day use.
Only if you can't follow VERY simple instructions
call me stupid, what is flashing? Like you said as long as i flash my hero

Flashing is installing different core software or firmware on the phone.

click the links on my previous post to read what you need to do.
PLEASE read everything, then re-read it , then read it while you are doing it. there have been many people that have not done so and bricked thier phones
as the old adage goes measure twice cut once.
as far as flash the stock ROM allows flash, that being said there are some file formats that it wont play but for the most part its pretty good.
*edit*
Sorry wrong thread
Can i do this great thing?
1. Try using the search function on this forum
or
2. Wait a couple of weeks and HTC will provide a 2.1 update for you.
or
3. Wait for like... forever HTC's so slow on this, but would recommend option 2 tho, the 2.1 release thats out isn't that stable...
If you get the official HTC one do they just post it on their website and you download it, or what?

Yes. And they have ALWAYS stated that they will do that.
You will notice in this link that there are no available 2.0 ROMs for the Hero... However there are 1.5, 1.6, and 2.1.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=GSM Hero ROMs
Remember, if you install the Official HTC 2.1 ROM (when it is eventually released) using the RUU, you won't have Root access on your Hero anymore, I'd just wait till someone posts an 'unpacked' version on here.

hey yall, am i the only one who finds myself checking in the development section and searching twitter for a new froyo rom for the Vibrant? lol Someone has a Rom working and you have to do the adb method and all this and it has a few errors. This phone seems like a power house. A5ren't yall ready for some Clockworks flashable roms? I wish Paul's Modaco custom rom for the galaxy S 19000 was compatible with this
Yeah I'm too checking the forums daily but it is what it is. I was on a cliq XT with 1.5 so i'm still happy at 2.1. I've just reached the point that I'm admitting I had Motorola couple weeks ago i would have never said that.
Either way September is when 2.2 is due so its just a matter of time.

Kernels are now flashable, wes has updated & chimed in with more progress of the CM build, most of the devs are working with each other to get at least 1ROM running. What more do you want? Oh CM dropped, flash, cool.... now what? Learn??? Develop?
Appreciate the fact that every single galaxy S developer is trying to make this possible for the galaxy S community.

Nah, they were just waiting to announce their new HTC Desire Z and HD phones.
No news about the froyo update, anyone?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
HTC have already been contacted about this, the wildfire will NOT be updated until the desire is full updated on ever carrier and also the global stock rom as been updated. HTC commented on that the desires update could not be streamlined thanks to all the custom carrier roms this is why it taken so long, and bad news to virgin customers they wont get a OTA update any time soon even if the wildfire did get updated as there rom is not a stocked edited rom its a striped down 3pay rom.
HTC also commented there had no plains for a OTA update for virgin 3pay and another carrier in the UK it will be just a stock update when all the over carrier updates are done. Sorry I can't comment on witch US companys wont get the OTA update but there was some I just don't remeber witch ones they said.
Hi guys,
Did you know that the Chinese Wildfire is released with stock 2.2 ROM?
http://www.htc.com/cn/product/wildfire/specification.html
"Platform Android ™ 2.2, built-in HTC Sense ™"
Isn't there any leak of the Chinese ROM or a system dump?
