Quickly upgrade through KIES - Galaxy S I9000 General

As you may know, KIES will let you download official updates only if the "SoftwareRevision" and "ProductCode" match
I've made some registry files which will let you upgrade without manually editing the registry.
it's pretty simple:
1.connect your device to the computer
2.open KIES
3.load the desired reg file
4.try to update (some versions need "Test Mode" to be turned on)
if it doesn't work:close KIES, delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung and then try again (KIES will rebuild the values, this time your device will be in number 1)
currently there are reg files for the following firmwares:
JM1 (product code XEU)
JM2 (product code XEE)
JG8 (product code XSG)
please add more combinations

Where i can get the product code for Bulgaria ? my phone was with JF5 stock but i flashed JM1

EDIT: Deleted XXX trick, needs more research !

love this! kies upgrades are much easier. Now i dont have to reinstall all apps and settings.
upgraded to JM1
when i used the XXX trick, only JFA was offered

can you explain with a little more detail the point of this ? surely you dont want to be downloading foreign firmwares or am i missing the point

I'm from Israel, there are no local firmwares so I must use foreign firmwares
The "point" is to make a database with combinations of product codes and firmwares
some people are more comfortable with KIES (although I prefer odin) and this just can make their life a little easier when upgrading.
one more advantage when upgrading through KIES: your data isn't lost (but only some times which I haven't figured out yet)

I too vote for stickying this thread, knowing working combinations for firmware files would be of great help for my upcoming Kies upgrade helper tool

FUS_TEST from 00000000 to 00000001

Cool, this upgrade-"hack" works, I run the XEEJM2-file, and Kies enables me to actually upgrade to JM2.
It downloads the update, the phone restarts to Download-mode, but then I get an error-message on the PC, regarding Binaryloadermgr.exe failing. First it was because of a rapi.dll-file, then when I found the rapi.dll file and put it in the right directory, it gave me another error-message..
But all this might be because of Win7 x64...
Should try on a XP machine too

thanks.
I succesfully upgraded from jf3 to jm1.
can anyone tell me if this trick will work for froyo update as well?
So let's say if samsung releases froyo at the end of September and I follow exact steps as shown above, will I get upgrade to froyo instead of JM1?
Also what does JF3 and JM1 all mean?
I know that they are different firmware versions available but how do you know which one is the latest?
I think J means 2010 and M means perhaps August?
Cheers

Are you saying that using this method I can upgrade to JM1 without going through this flashing stuff? At the moment I have JG5 with Kies telling me "Your device cannot be updated"

Get 2.2 GPO on Branded Phones using Kies 1.5.3.10093.82

For Branded network phones, if you still have the previous version of Kies, you can change the LocalVer of Kies in the registry to make it think it's the latest version. Then change the product code etc to make it think you have a unbranded phone and the update will appear
I have done this on UK O2 branded SGS and has now been updated to JPO 2.2

Have you tried this yourself or are you merely reposting the hack?
I've tried it on an Orange product code handset with the old version of Kies and it didn't work. Presumably, you need the new version of Kies in order to upgrade to Froyo: i heard somewhere that newer versions of Kies cannot be hacked.
I can confirm that if you allow Kies to auto update the official Froyo release is not available to you if you have upgraded to the Nortic JP6 via the registry hack.
H!pefully someone will find a way around this soon.

Yes I have tried this on a O2 UK phone and the update appears.
I've tried this and it refuses to flash with an message telling me that my device hasn't sufficient charge. However, it is 100% charged! Anyone else seen this?
You can't use the reg hack with the latest KIES. You need the previous one, and then, changing the local ver in the registry to the latest version
Once done that, you can upgrade/downgrade to any firmware version inputing the right values on the registry's "software revision", etc...
I tried it myself, and it works.
everyone is going nuts!!!

Mine was XEC (Movistar Spain) But I already flashed to the leaked JPP/JPO
1st when connected to KIES 10093.82 I got the message: "your device can't be upgraded"
Then, changing the "Local Ver" on the registry, I got the message: "You already have the latest firmware"
So now, if I change "Software revision" in the registry to JF3, I get the option to flash this firmware.
However I didn't flash since I already have the leaked JPO/JPP and I don't know wether this oficial upgrade introduces any changes.
But well, doing this, I get the option to flash the upgrade.
Why did Samsung have to screw us over yet again, what was the big problem with the reg hack being used by people to get around their bloody crap software?????????????????????????????????????????????????
Just tried this reg change after downgrading from the new kies to this version and as soon as I use the phone reg changes I get an error no connection to server message from the updater software, if I leave the phone reg alone (with the JPM one) then it says no upgrade is available.
Anyone else with this problem as i'm about to throw my phone out of the window

Any spanish user could tell me which PDA/PHONE/CSC and product code I must use to fool kies and get the oficial update?
By the way, if I do that, will I get a Samsung Froyo or a Movistar branded firmware with all the crap inside?

I feel your pain.. Still nothing on Orange UK either.
I emailed Orange to ask if they could tell me when it would be released, got this reply:-
"Thank you for your email regarding your Samsung handset.
I am sorry to learn that you are unaware of our process regarding firmware updates for Orange phones. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
I would like to advise that Orange customers are not able to obtain firmware updates direct from Samsung themselves, this is due to the Orange branding that you have on your phone that allows you to use this on our network.
Please find below a link to our website where you are able to check in the future if an update via Orange has been released.
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Sa...96364420640&product=Feature&t=Product&tabid=1
Be aware that your handset may not be available on the listings until if or when an update is released.
When a new update is made available by a handset manufacturer they will pass a version of this to Orange so that we can run the required tests to confirm that this update they have released will co-exist with the Orange branding that you are required to use on your phone.
It is possible that the new update that is released may not co-exist with the Orange branding and thus we will not be able to release the update for the Samsung Galaxy, if they can not co-exist and we were to release this to your phone, this could effectively be detrimental to your handset and Orange will not process for this reason.
If the update version can not co-exist with the Orange branding then we will wait for Samsung to release a new update to which we will restart the testing process accordingly.
Be aware that it is not possible to advise of any estimated timescale for the testing of this update by Orange, furthermore, we can not guarantee that an update will be released at all regarding the Samsung Galaxy as the updates that could be released may never work alongside the Orange branding on the phone.
Because some of this information is speculative and based on situations regarding the testing of updates that may or may not ever be released by Samsung and the time it takes to complete the testing of the new updates, please accept my sincere apologies that we can not be more specific regarding your query.
As with the current Android update it has been released via an Over-The-Air format, this may be the situation for the the next available update, but this method we will not be able to confirm until the update is valid for Orange UK handset users when it has been released.
Please be advised that the answers to many common queries can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions section in the Help and Support option on the Home page of our website.
www.orange.co.uk
I trust this information clarifies your query"

much more solid compared to JP6.... need to fully test it but why you reading this get the new firmware!!!
forgot to add, needed to click the update firmware button more then once as i think the server which you download JPA from is quite busy, it is there though, thank goodness i don't need to deal with kies for a while!

Issues about ROM, UPDATE, APPS & LAG FIX

Thanks in advance

Removing branded start-up logo? (Samsung Omnia 7)

Hi all, new here
I'm in Australia with the Samsung Omnia 7.
I bought phone online from someone who won it in an Optus competition (Optus being the carrier here).
The phone is unlocked to any network but for about 3-5 seconds upon the phones startup, there is a branded Optus logo that is displayed.
I want it GONE.
What's the best way to do this? I'm running the original firmware, not the new leaked one. I'm also not game to flash to the leaked newer firmware as Samsung hasn't released it officially and I've heard some Aussies have had some issues after doing it.
What's the safest way I can remove this start-up logo branding? Thanks!
change to a different firmware, vol up+camera+power button > download mode> samfirmwares.com firmware(unbranded)! Thats currently the only possibility.
What about by editing a registry entry or something?
I'm not prepared to "upgrade" to that firmware until Samsung releases it (if they do).
They probably haven't for a reason.
try chevron unlocker, install registry explorer search and share!
Is chevron unlocker going to change something about my device I can't reverse? I want full control of any testing I do.
sorry for late reply, the firmware file consists of lot parts (Phone, csc, eboot, pda), modifying a specific file in the archive may remove the startup logo.Just search wiki for answers about the significance of each part.Or better still, wait for the update release by MS see if it changes anything! Chevron won't help!
Most users have upgraded to the firmware available at samfirmware.com I too running omnia 7 t-mobile uk version unbranded by downloading I8700XENJK1. Have had no issues so far!
Any updates on this with new unlocking methods etc..?
I'd really like that start up pic gone if I can!

No, like has already been said, the only way to get rid of this is to re-flash the device. You should be able to only flash parts of it though which would leave the OS (and all apps, settings etc) intact. I'm guessing it's the bootloader image that includes the logo you're seeing, so would start there.

Do you have anyway to do this? There's no tool I've heard of which can replace specific parts of the ROM?
It's a full reflash or nothing, I think.

For now it is. Even with WinMo 6.5 we had to flash the 2nd start up screen. Then we had full access to the core of OS. Right now we dont. So only way to get rid of it is to flash a brand free rom issue by samsung and not a carrier
Any updates on this now?
Anyone know a registry key that is associated with the start up logo?

Are you absolutely certain about this? The ROM comes in parts and I would assume we could flash only part 1 or 2 if we so wanted?

There IS NO registry key for this. The boot logo is displayed long before the OS has even started booting.
I've also installed the firmware from samfirmware.com and I've had no issues at all. I've managed to update to Pre-NODO and NODO without any pain (apart from having to use the Hungarian Hack to get NODO early).
I've seen no downsides from my perspective.
The only risk I can see is that no carriers will have tested WP7 against this firmware until it's officially released by Samsung.
if you have a 4.10.1.9 bootloader, there's no possibility to change your rom....forget it.
right now, this bootloader fail to upgrade... no download mode ability at omnia 7

change to a different firmware, vol up+camera+power button > download mode> samfirmwares.com firmware(unbranded)! Thats currently the only possibility.

Hello everyone, Im new to the site. I too purchased, what I thought to be unbranded, a mobile over the internet that was branded with T-Mobile Germany. Im in Australia. I can use my Optus SIM Card. But what was worrying me is what affects a branded phone (especially from another country) would have on me and my usage, especially with the new Mango update.
Now unless someone can tell me that it really doesnt make any difference to how the phone will work, I want it unbranded for safety sake. That being said, my quote above, This firmware, obviously it sounds custom and not official. If I install this firmware, any Windows Update up until this point (Not Mango), will it still install via zune? and will it take on the Mango update when thats out?
Thanks guys

I believe samfirmware just releases leaked firmware. They are therefore all "official" in a sense and the unbranded ones should just be firmware for the unbranded devices.
If you're using a branded phone, the official updates will roll out when the original carrier certifies it. Apart from that and the boot branding, there shouldn't be many differences.

Branded won't make any difference to your experience. But you can flash the unbranded ROM it's easy enough and you should still get the Mango update.
So?
GP, have you gotten rid of it yet?

Just flash an unbranded ROM dude, really easy
The second screen, the carrier logo, is simple mologo.bmp file... If you replace it with some file explorer, you are done
