Hey guys, I'm news to android phones, i'm used to Symbian (Nokia).
Anyways, here is my situation
My phone's menu is in english, but sometimes, i wanna write a sms or mms, or enter a friend's name in the contact list, I would like to write in chinese, but so far, I havent seen any options to switch they keyboard to chinese. Unless, i have to change to my phone to chinese, then i can only write in chinese, no english.
So my question is : Is there a way so we can switch alternatively between keyboad language without chaning the whole system?
Thanks
long press in the input field, then you get an option to change input method (keyboard)

I have been using my xperia for about a month now and when I bought it, it came with a memory card to help install Arabic. The software is called Multilingual Support 3.0 from MoBiDIV.
I have it on "English with Arabic enabled" because I only need to read Arabic messages and do not want the menu in Arabic. This is all fine except sometimes when I am typing an SMS in English, the language randomly changes to Arabic and I do not know how to change it back so I have to shut the device off and switch it on again for it to go back to English input.
If anyone can tell me how to change it back to English without having to restart the phone, I would appreciate it because it is becoming very annoying. I do not need to type in Arabic and the keypad does not have Arabic letters on it anyway. If I have to type in Arabic, I can use the virtual keyboard installed.
Sorry for my long post, hope someone can help.
is your text alignment in the program set to context? and did u change the regional settings and the settings in the program to english uk? if so i cant see a reason for it to change to the right side..i have the same thin?
Yeah, it is set to context and my regional settings is set to English (New Zealand) because I like the time to be 12-hour.
It doesn't happen every time, but sometimes when I am in the middle of a message it changes to Arabic which leads me to believe that it must be some sort of keyboard shortcut such as (alt+enter) but I haven't figured it out.
I think you accidentally press the Arabic key board switch in the middle of the msg (3een)
I too have xperia with arabic Multilingual Support 3.0 from MoBiDIV
I just faced this problem today. mine is the latest ROM update. i only reinstalled MoBiDIV from the 128mb MiroSD card i got when i first bought my xperia. i found that when you press the blue function key then the shift button (fun+shift) the keyboard switchs to arabic and you can't go back to english.
the only things you can do is lock the shift key where you can have all the english litters in CAPITAL and if you unlock the shift key you'll returne to arabic
i didn't try soft reset i just disabled the arabic support restart and then re enabled arabic and i'm back to normal.
Hi everyone,
I am sorry but I am not a dev at all, but I was wondering if anyone can dev a keyboard layout switch...
I have checked many post and if I am not getting it wrong, you have to go to "setting>local ..." to change the keyboard layout and T9 dictionnaries.
My point is, as a french, english, chinese keyboard users, I have to frequently change my keybaord layout. So I was wondering if anyone can compilate a mix of the following applications (can be founded on market) :
-apowersms (if you go to setting, there is a language filter, which is very interesting because you can choose which language keyboard you need) (and the keyboard layout isn't so bad looking)
- softkeyboard (for the keyboard button, when you press it long, you can directly change to the language you want)
I have also haykuro Hero Rom, as you can see in the following video, there's tool and keyboard button, maybe we can use this as a base....

I would be happy to help in developing this, but i don't know how
no one interested by this?

if i hold my google voice button on my keyboard a settings thingy pops up if i go to that i can manage all kind of text message settings like auto correct and input language
if you don't have google voice installed you might just want to hold all your keyboard key one by one and see if there a settings thingy show up
Hi there, it's my first post...
I've used to have on default android keyboard the International English Keyboard enabled, but after a factory reset on my A500 I can't type accents anymore...
I take a look on: Settings/configure input methods/Android keyboard
And the only "Active input methods" are: English (US) Keyboard, English Voice
I don't have a International English Keyboard...
Before the reset accents worked fine, I just needed to long press a vowel key and a menu shows on text editor. But now this ain't working anymore.
Besides that, another different behaviour: before the reset the keyboard was very much like a real one (a hardware one) when I hold shift key I could press another key and that other was typed on upcase. Now it don't work too.
I asked this also on android enthusiasts (stack xchange).. lets see maybe somebody know whats happening...
Somebody knows how back it the way it was before?
Since I updated to lollipop, every word I type that isn't typed in English is underlined in red. This is really annoying since I usually type in Dutch. My phone language is English though. Is there an easy solution for this problem? Can I switch this feature off in some way?
Same problem

Hey, I registered just to give you an answer. I have the same exact problem, only I don't type usually in Dutch but in Serbian. My phone language is also English. I'm on Lollipop, I9505.
I found out a way to stop this spell check, and it's only possible, as it seems to me, to change your phone language. I've changed it from English to Serbian, even though I don't like it that way, and underlining has stopped. I thought that it would start to underline English typed words, but it didn't. So, if you consider that an easy and acceptable solution, there you go. I'm still looking for a way to use my phone in English and type in Serbian without that red underlining, just like I used to do before on KitKat. It doesn't make sense to have to change phone language when this is a problem that is related to keyboard settings. If someone knows how to fix this without changing phone language I'd love to know a way to do that.
Hi!
I have the very same problem as I speak with my friends in 4 different languages. After a lot of search I found the solution to completely disable the red underlining: selecting "Alphabet" (QUERTY) as your keyboard language, as I describe below:
1 Download the "Google Keyboard" app from the google Play
2 Go to keyboard settings - in lollypop it is under Settings > My device > Language and Input
3 Enter into "Google Keyboard" to show the google keyboard settings, and then go into "Languages"
4 Disable "Use system language" and ONLY enable "Alphabet (QUERTY)" from the list of languages (you will probably find it between Afrikaans and Arabic)
5 Go back again to Settings > My device > Language and Input, enter "Default" and select "Alphabet (QWERTY)" as default
VoilĂ !

Hey, thanks! That is a fine solution, but only if I wish to use Google keyboard without predictive text and auto replace options since they are gone when selecting "Alphabet (QWERTY)".
I'm quite used to Samsung keyboard and I like having text prediction and auto replace, so I'm still looking for a solution in terms of switching off that annoying spell check but with using Samsung keyboard. :fingers-crossed:
If anyone's still looking for a fix, there's a way - just do the factory reset and the red underlining will be gone. I just did.
