I am new to this forum, and i have been desperately trying to figure out how to get the htc keyboard on the generic cupcacke build that comes with the mytouch 3G. I know there is a method that involves rooting the phone, but i don't want to take a chance. I have come across another method that seems much easier:
download htc_ime.apk, put it on your sd card, download an app manager or file explorer from android market, use the app to doanload the apk on to your phone, go to local and text in settings and select touch input.
Does this method really work?
I had doubts because everyone seems to be using the more complicated method.
Yes any .apk file will work, does with me and I use Astro
Cheers
R.
Do you have to unzip the apk file before you put it on your sd card?

this method was discussed on the other thread, but the one person who ended up trying it out had problems getting it to work. that is why i made a separate thread to check if the process was valid and if would actually work.

its valid & works fine.. Jsut like the instructions in the other thread say.. I can personally vouch for that as I am using the HTC Compact Keyboard on my myTouch3g
Edit: also the 1 person who hasn't gotten it to work likely is just doing something wrong..
yeah pointless why start a new thread if you could have just gone to the other one and confirmed that it is working....
thanks for all the help. i guess i am kind of new to this stuff. i figured it would be easier to just start a new thread. by the way, why does everybody use the more complicated method(adb)?

after you have the file on the card run the appmanager program.. when it comes up I had to choose menu & then Something that was obvious.. I dont remember what it was, but it was there.. & then simply install the apk file as listed.. Also make sure you have checked the bock to allow non marketplace apps..

@c-phresh
i think i know what your problem is. when you download and extract the htc_ime.apk, it branches into two files. one is a .so file, and one is a .apk file.
The only file that you should use is the .apk. if you also put the .so file on your sd card, the whole process will go wrong at one point.
when i try to install the keyboard it keeps failing, also. when i try to install it at the top of the screen it says "abc non-word vibrate times" then asks me to confirm that i want to change a system setting, then fails after i try to install. i have a changed the settings to allow 3rd party apps to be installed. any thoughts? non-rooted phone.....

From your information on your post profile I would say your not working with a MyTouch3g since you have a Canadian flag & the rogers logo..
you would be correct. i was hoping that my version would be pretty similar to the mytouch3g, minus the horrible name
@hondaguy
the keyboard that we are all trying to obtain already comes standard on the rogers magic that you have. Look at images on first page.

restart your phone or the little yellow button under the back cover
pretty simple cause it boots from inside an application...so when android freezes you can always go back to WINMO. pretty nifty
Yeah I ran 2.2 froyo on my hd2 and it works once then I try to run haret again then it gets stuck saying cannot open rootfs operation closed" something like that can someone help or tell me what keeps going wrong cause if I put a fresh SD card itll run again but just once... please help

have to delete android folder from sd
Where is Energy Droid Rom that I am reading about? I can't find it.
Hey, since there is many requests for how to setup the android on you'r HD2, i was thinking "why dont i make one?" So here it is.
PS!!! My english is not the greatest.
First download this radio if you dont have it (recomended): 2.10.50.08_2
And install it, boot up you'r HD2. A stable ROM is also recomended.
Second download one of the builds from: Here
Third: Clear you'r SD card (Only if you have a low mb sd card) You dont really have to, but if you do, u might get some smoother speed.
Four: Extract the build you downloaded to you'r desktop on you computer and Copy the files inside the folder you extracted to. ALL files. and past them into you SD card. (VIA USB) once done, unplug you'r usb cable. (If u choosed the froyo build, just put the whole android folder to the root of you'r card)
Five: Disable the auto backlight in the WM first before you start android, Select file explorer on you'r HD2 (or simular programs) And go into you'r SD card Run clrcad (for the sound, If nothing happends, dont worry, dont supposed to) and run Haret. Then after the build has booted, plug you'r USB cable in you'r HD2 again (Android drains battery atm).
Six: Enjoy!
Note: If you'r screen turns black, turn off auto backlight. If it's still black, change radio. AND!!! This dont kills you'r winmo.
I'm non genius but i made this to help you guys.
Please correct me if i am wrong.
Cheers!
Hi,
Thanks for the info but I have done all that without the radio update. I'm running a stock vodafone ROM. I manage to get the haret launched and all the code scrolling but then the screen just fades to black and doen't finish the boot up... Is it the lack of the radio update doing this?? I'm not very clued in on this stuff.
Cheers!

No need to clear your SD card (I never did). It does make it easier to switch between builds, though, since you can just delete everything and copy over the next one you want to try.

Yes, most likely. What you're reporting sounds like what other people had before they installed a compatible radio.
Just want to add:
1. depends on the build, you have to extract the content to SD based on the instruction. (for example, the Froyo build you have to extract all files to a folder named "android" at the root of SD)
2. Must disable the auto backlight in the WM first, else you will some times get the "black screen". If you look carefully or under strong light, you'll still see things on screen, there is just no back light.
2. Run clrcad before Haret to get the sound working.
Cheers Meptik
I am looking to update the radio version... it that like doing the full ROM thing, in that it will re-set everything to factory default? Or is the radio update not as 'back to square one' on the phone as doing the ROM?

Updating only the radio shouldn't reset your HD2 to factory default, unless perhaps if you flash it using a stock ROM Update Utility.
Use the radio that FreddernLFC links to from the first post; it includes a CustomRUU, which should flash the radio to your HD2 without restoring it to factory defaults.
Hmmm.. will have another look at it. Ran through the updater and 5mins into it it errored so had to go through the recover process. I'll try again later. Cheers

Mine didn't work with stuff on my 8Gb card so I copied the whole card to my PC, reformatted the card, copied over the Android stuff and it then worked. I the copied all the back up stuff back and Android stopped working (tty error).

You try again. Common issue.
Hi Everyone, just wanted to add a few things. i would recommend you turn off sense from the device, then power off the device, once it powers on again go straight to your file explorer and run the process. you should notice the cursor at the bottom blink at a slower pace, if its in hyper mode the system will crash. it has been helping me, hopes this helps to all
what is this hyper mode what causes it i had to down gade my radio to 2.10.50.26 to get rid of the super fast un usableness of the 2.12.50.xx but i did like my 2.12.50.xx radio wish there was a way to make it work with that radio

winmo still remains there but sometimes you might need to hard reset
just switch off the phone in android or take out the battery and reboot, you are on win mo again.
good luck
How long does it spend? Because I am waiting for a long time.

you've posted in four threads that you can't get back to windows. If you shut the phone down and power on again, its simply not believable that you can't get into windows. if you are using an auto bootloader, then it should at least briefly give you an option to boot into windows. so, are you using an autoboot program?
If you happened to install a rom that autoboots android, (I'm guessing, can't see any other reason why a reboot wouldn't work), try turning off your phone, taking out the sdcard, then booting it up.
I'm sorry, but I don't know what to do... There's so many things that doesn't work.. That's why I posted it so many places... I don't know if I am using an autoboot program or not.. I followed the instructions from Youtube that everybody were positive about. And no, I don't get the option to boot into windows when I reboot the phone..
Android boots from your SD card so justtake it out and reboot phone and android wont load up.
Once in there you can uninstall the autoboot or flash a new version of windows or whatever you need to do.
No, that didn't work either... I thought it was very strange, because I heard about people who switched between android and wm... So I don't know what's wrong...

If you take the SD card out like others had suggested and turn your phone off and on, Android won't boot as it runs off the SD card (for the time bing anyway).
No SD card = No Android

If after removing SD card and rebooting you still boot into Android, then you either :
1. have a NAND version of Android (not sure if that's even available now)
2. have an Android phone (top part of Evo looks like Leo)
Sorry, but my SDcard is on the table, and Android is still running... What have I done...?

Did the youtube video you watched, ask you to flash a new WM rom. Are you sure your not mistaking your new WM rom as android, as it possibly looks different to your original ROM (which if you havnt backed up your data, you've already lost those appointments)
I suggest you watch a video of andriod, and see if it looks the same as your phone.
If it does, and your phone is definetily a HD2 Leo, and Android is running, Do you know anybody that goes by the name of Cotulla?....lol.
MaxSense modification for sense is an Android like interface.
I have neither NAND version nor Android phone...

Are these settings showing on your phone Under settings / about phone / software information?? If so you are in WM, not Android. And sorry to say you have lost your appointments, unless you backed them up using PIM backup or something similiar, which im guessing from this thread you didn't.
Just by looking at this Ive determined that the OP doesnt really know what he is doing at all. The software information that he posted indicates he flashed a custom WM rom (probably energy) and thinks its android.
kjessa_83: You are running a custom version of WM, NOT android!! If you want to go back to the original rom, I suggest you find the official rom, and flash that. Btw, if you cant tell the difference between WM and android, maybe you shouldnt be messing around with the phone...
The folder that I copied to my SDcard is called Android, so how come it's WM?

Hi all, can anyone help me. How do i put android on htc hd2 without removing windows and are you able to dual boot them or isent this possable
also can you get jelly bean ?
thanks
Please search before posting, there are many guides on how to do this.
Simply, you have to download a rom from the SD development section, put it on the root of your sdcard, go into winmo file manager and tap on clrcad and then haret.
You can also use NativeSD, but you have to look for that yourself.
You must have a compatible radio, and yes, you can have Jellybean. I don't know what you mean by "dualboot", isn't it the same as "run android without removing windows mobile" ?

Once again, search before posting. Literally everything you need to know can be found by searching. Are you so lazy that you can't even browse over to the SD Development section yourself?
Anyway, 1. No it doesn't remove WinMo and 2. There are apps which can do that (search for something like Android Loader, can't remember the name of it).
