Hi al..
I am normally floating around teh htc hd2 section as this is my own fone..
Anyway my wife has a G1 stock firmware
And due to my bone idleness just wondering if there is a f/w for this fone this will allow storing the apps to the sd card.
I noticed this fone quickly becomes full rather annoying
thank you
Not on stock firmware my friend. Got to be rooted.

I dont know how many people have branded desire HD's or how many would like a way of debranding there devices.
So this post if for me to see there is a need for such a thing.
So if there is enough people needing this i will look into if it can be donre and write a guide.
:-D
Please do a guide to help me remove the Vodafone bloatware on it
What can be done though at the moment besides from visionary temp root and pm disable?
if anyone with a branded device wants to test this method befor hand please join IRC : freenode channel #DesireHD
You will need a USB mircoSD card reader.
And THIS rom
Did you have a win? I also need info on removing my vodafone bloatware!! =)
i didnt think they had any branding on them? Im on t-mobile UK and cant see anything related to them.
Moved to Themes and Apps for now. Will keep an eye on it.
Cheers,
M_T_M
I'm definitely keen on getting rid of Vodafone bloatware (Australia) but I would like the option of reverting back to my current ROM simply because the warranty becomes void, the moment I flash a new ROM.
I haven't got a DHD, but i'm very interested in it. If i'm going to buy it, i think it will be branded (Vodafone GER). I don't know if the branding will disturb me, but i think updating an unbranded phone is still easyer and faster(!) (because downloading the update OTA or from HTCs page) as waiting for an update from the provider.
If you'll going to write the howto for unbranding DHD, please also mark some notes how to get the phone in delivery of condition (saving branded ROM a.s.o.).
A guide to debranding the Desire HD would definitely be good. Not that I need it, but for those with branded phones, it would be excellent.
T-mobile UK are totally unbranded! Which is awesome, it was too much to hope that they were unlocked as well but hey ho.

Here's your guide :
You just have to replace MMC1 by MMC2 and at the end just install your RUU and that's all.
I have debranded my SFR Desire HD last night using this.
Does this remove the SIM lock too, if you flash an unbranded ROM?
I don't think, but just haven't tried yet.
No worries there. Was glad with it till I realized the vibrate was pooched do I have to get a replacement... -_-

Any idea when its coming?
Maybe the question should be more like: "Will it be released in Canada"
i highly doubt it will be out before the generic htc froyo rom...so i want to de-brand and flash the generic rom...
can anyone recommend a good guide for flashing the generic froyo rom to our specific model virgin canada legend? thanks in advance...
Canadian carriers are pretty awful at releasing updates in a timely fashion. Hopefully Virgin will break the pattern. Just to give you an idea, the predecessor to our phone, the Hero, just got an update from Telus recently... to 2.1.
I contact HTC via email about the software update for Bell/Virgin HTC Legend and they tell me to ask it to Bell/Virgin. I sent an email to Bell without answer. If anybody gets an answer from them let us know!
There's another thread about this very topic at HowardForums (can't post the link due to new account restrictions).
But anyways, apparently one of the Virgin reps is "looking into it" .. maybe we'll get an answer there soon.
I have just gotten off the phone with Virgin mobile and HTC and told them that i have the 2.2 for my legend already installed and rooted all that fun stuff i got them to send me to tech support to get the APN settings for my baby and he also let me know that the 2.2 is in devlopment up there and will be released some time soon... no exact date but he's heard that they will be supporting it...also if they do release it OTA i think they may release a patch if you agree to the OTA you may loose root and possibly never be able to root again due to the new update.. Hope this was some help.

HTC legend Rooted 2.2 FroYo Virgin Mobile
@virginmobilecan tweeted that it would be mid January prior to the New Year, and they have been releasing Froyo for the other phones fairly early than they promised, I'm thinking tomorrow?

Out for Virgin, no clue about Bell.
EDIT: Yes, Bell got it too.

Finally got it yesterday. Apps2SD is a lifesaver.
Can't change lockscreen anymore, so that sort of bites. Other than that, Love the new live wallpapers. Haven't noticed any speed increases, but It's not like i've been looking for them or paying too much attention to load times.
So far i'm really happy with it. Voice commands, flashlight, etc. all nice features.
It's a shame they didn't add the 2.2 camera interface.
Is the new version comes with the Wifi hotspot ? Anyone with the new official update let us know?
Also i'm wondering if i flash mine with the new official update, whether i can still root ?
I would like to have the wifi hotspot... coz i heard with the official update they removed this functionality that normally comes with the unbranded OTA froyo.
Thanks

It is there. Just checked on my wife's Legend.
Generally, it has been a great upgrade. The only issues are that a couple apps have not been updated by their authors in a LONG time so they do not work well on 2.2 and that for some reason, the screen lock dots were set to only come on after 5 minutes of non-use. My wife had it set to immediate before so she was annoyed that that changed.
App 2 SD isn't the lifesaver I was hoping it was... I find the apps still take up some space on the main phone even after you move them to SD. Frustrating.

I'm a Rogers customer who purchased an HTC Legend from a VM customer. Contrary to what I was told by VM, I did receive the Froyo update (today) when I checked for it on my phone (it wasn't pushed).
It includes the wifi hotspot (YAY) and while it doesn't permit pushing all apps to the SD card, it has let me move most of them there, so I'm hoping the 'low space' messages are a thing of the past.
Can't say I notice a big speed boost, but the wireless tethering is big to me, as is the ability to move most apps to the SD card. Looking forward to better voice recognition too.
All the best and good luck with your phone!
Phone seems sluggish at times after my official froyo update... even have to reboot a few times when it becomes too sluggish... i've moved all movable apps to sd but some big ones can't be moved... like swype freaking 18MB and IGO 29MB...
sluggish like finger swiping the pictures from my alblum is really slow and the picture does not follow my finger unles i move it mm by mm and slowly...
anyone experienced that?
A friend of mine on Bell's Froyo has that constantly. A hard reset fixed it though.
you should notice that froyo is much faster than stock eclair...its not subtle at all
They offered me a discount on my monthly bill for 3 months because of the mess up on android 2.2, but when I got the bill, it was still the same amount...
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Oh ho ho, they do that sometimes as a joke. They treat us like chickens...
Just call customer service and demand a 6 month adjustment, instead.
Or, before you demand such a thing, check your account's notes to see if it will be added on to the next bill. Bell and Virgin operates on advanced billing.

I liked the phone before the upgrade with only GPS being a slight problem which got fixed after changing gps.conf (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731462).
Now the games I used to play and even movies slow down. Games like "Tower Raiders" struggle to run at full speed but the biggest problem is the UI. Its no longer smooth scrolling and the idle screen lock sometimes does not unlock the instant when swiped. This is not nit picking but when your using the phone as a phone… I want to make calls NOW not in a few minutes after the UI resets.
Ive always modded my phones and this one I didn’t want to because I liked the default system. Now I need to back level the phone due to its unusable interface. Not sure if this is something T-mobile will assist with but most likely need to do this myself. I wanted a factory phone and ended up being forced back down the mod firmware route.
dont upgrade!
GT-I9000
Firmware 2.2
I9000BOJP3
FROYO.BOJPB
just wish I wrote down my old firmware details.
message for the XDA members
Does anyone know how I can back level the firmware? I dont know what it was before kies did its stuff.
have you done the ole faithful factory reset have upgraded 2.2?
No Problems
Ran the upgrade last night, phone runs much better with many things now working as they should have before the upgrade

Your last post was regarding vodafone 2.2 with the kies. Which firmware are you using, vodafone or tmobile. god knows about vodafone but know tmobile from the support pages have changed this firmware in some fashion.

not thought about factory reset, thanks i'll try this tonight as I use the phone for business. Games I can live without but for me, 2.2 brought very little over the loss of UI speed. I might have missed something outstanding in 2.2 (flash support not being one of them) but hope clearing the phone before retrying helps speed things up. All I can say is that before the 2.2 upgrade I was very happy, now im to be honest a little naffed off.
Hi
I havent used the generic firmware since the initial multi touch upgrade in january as I've been using froyo but i was wondering, how bad is 2.1 compared to 2.2? I have to switch back to the generic 2.1 because i need to give my phone for repairs to the store i bought it from in about a week and im thinking it might be best to just switch back to the dreaded stock 2.1 without root since they will be checking for that. Will it be that bad or is it very subjective?
Make a backup then reflash. That way u can just switch it back when u get the phone back. The fact its rooted wont stop them from repairing its hardware but they could add charges for "dealing with your changes to the device"
To answer your question more directly though, with 2.1 you cant have full flash player capability, no native app2sd or wifi tethering and performance is about half.

I didn't find the generic firmware too bad when I first got the phone but once I started putting different roms on which improve the performance I could really feel the difference. Then when I went back to the generic I found it very annoying as it wasn't doing things at the speed I wanted them to
So i thought my phone finally bit the dust, it wouldn't turn on or charge or anything and a week before that i was unable to receive any texts.. so i put an order in for my insurance phone, and about 12 hours after i did that i got my original Froyo EVO working again.. I have that EVO rooted and running MIUI ( I absolutely hate stock rom now compared to MIUI) -- But it wont hold a charge at all and now i got my new EVO i realized that the only issue with my original one was the battery (not including the texting issue) Is there absolutely nothing i can do with my new EVO (2.3.3) to get MIUI on it ? Would a sprint store be willing to swap me a Froyo EVO for a 2.3.3 Gingerbread?
I just dont understand why i can't use adb or something to just copy the entire internal memory from my froyo evo onto my new 2.3.3 one or something like that? What is stopping us from entirely formatting the internal memory and copying the rooted phones internal memory onto it ?

From what I have read in here, all the Evo's have been upgraded except a choice few here and there. Doesn't hurt to try though, I would actually call first before wasting gas.

I'm not a pro at this but if I'm not mistaken, because there's no root for 2.3.3, there's no way to change system files. Also the new one has a new bootloader that hasn't been cracked yet, so even if you were to somehow manage temp root to change those files, it'll be f*cked on reboot since the bootloader does a signature check. That's my my understanding of the situation at least...could be wrong.
