[APP] Change Font size ? - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi there,
As my eyes are pretty poor and have fat fingers, I'm looking for an app that will allow me to change the Font and icon size of my desire... I thought that option would be under accessibility settings but that's greyed out.. Email is fine as the client will increase the font, but that's no use for the rest of the phone...
Thanks for any help.
Dmont

Hi all,
I have that problem too. Anyone can tell us how to enlarge the Fonts? (I mean, not only some Apps, but the hole system)
Thank you!

There's an app named Font Size in the Market. It never worked for me, though...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

You can use "Spare Parts" appl. Search it in the market

I never manage to change the font size with SpareParts. If you can do it with this software please share .
But i doubt you could do that since Desire is not fully rooted (no rw /system, etc....).
And if my memory is ok i remenber of bug report about Android concerning the font size..
...2 mintutes later...
Well i found the thread concerning this bug report it is here. I don't want to discourage you but the thread started on Nov 06, 2009 and the last message was...yesterday ....and still no solution
Another way to change size of font (not really the size of the font) is playing with "build.prop" in /system and changing the "ro.sf.lcd_density" (by defaylt 240 on WVGA..210 is good value but fonts are more little. Maybe increasing the value may let you have bigger fonts).
Hope this help a little

at last I found a solution that works (for me anyway)
I downloaded an app called font changer and picked a font called chinese cat, it's a little bit cartoonish but it's a fair trade off as all the system fonts are just that little bit bigger and easy for me to read now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744363

But you need a rooted device for font changer as well..

VGA Font Size

Is there a way to increase font size when in VGA mode via a registry hack?
Its too small for me at the moment.
Sorry not really...
Please DO read my native VGA-related articles (they have been made sticky in many Pocket PC fora because it does have every info you will need), I have explained all these questions in there.
See for example http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=98163 and use Ctrl-F to search for "font"
Yeah Menneisyys, I have in fact read that article as well as others, but there is no way, at least to my knowledge to increase font size of the top and bottom bars (where "Start" and soft keys are).

Yup, they can't be enlarged; there're a lot of other font types, however, that can be.
What is the effect of Calibri font... try it

Well I've had Universal on 96dpi since April and gone through 4 official ROM upgrades. I have played around a lot and truth of the matter is, yeah you can change the font sizes but the actual benefit is marginal. The stuff that really needs to increase is hardcoded (thanx Bill!). Only thing that made a difference for me was increasing font size through the UI settings.
Most ppl who see my Universal squint so I'd say that despite guides and directions, TruVGA does require 20/20 eyesight.

Agreed - there're a lot of individual apps where you can't increase the font size (for example, Messenger).
I'll bring up this question with the internal MS developers. Hope we/they'll be able to come up with something similar to, for example, the solution of the Sharp Zaurus, where zooming (font size changing) is hardware-based and has effect on all fonts.
Or you could explain to them Application Developement 101: How not to hardcode everything.
BTW, I've given up on PMSN. Switched to Live Beta which does allow SOME font resizing only still not large enough even at xtra large setting. Agile works fine. Anyway, point is WM still needs a lot of work, and I mean ALOT.

HELP... need solution for SMS

when i have lots of sms for one contact it take ages to reply to that contact..... any solution..........
Errr, the hotfix on the HTC website and in the sticky about hotfix rollup...
i ve installed all all hotfixes on the htc website... still noluck
i have already installd that but still it takes long time to reply because it takes long time to load all the sms from that contact..... any solution for this???
There is a workaround, which isn't ideal but it does work. As the messages are loading, tap on one of them so that it opens up the menu (Forward, Delete etc). Leave this open for about 1 second, then tap the 'close' softkey. It would appear that while this menu is displayed, the HD2 is able to load up all the messages quickly.
As I said, it's not ideal but it's something to try.
This bug and the contacts bug need to be sorted by HTC pretty damn soon.
thats how i am using it now....
man...... HTC need to come up with something real fast......
You could just turn off HTC messaging and use the native windows app, for now. It has a couple of foibles, but works perfectly well and is an ideal solution until the HTC version gets fixed.
thanx johncmolyneux
can you also help me on a nother issu....?
i am trying to have a different font on my HTC HD2 so that i can view some website after i installed the font to windows font folder my facebook app is giving me problems its taking the new font....

You must have replaced an existing font for that to happen. I'm afraid you can't have 2 fonts with the same name, so you can only view either the website OR facebook.
If you tell me what file it was then I'll give you a copy of the original.
if i remove the .ttf files i installed its work fine. but when i put them back its not working i ve tried several times (by default windows font folder is empty)
and i have not replaced any font during the process
i hope there is a solution for this cos only facebook app is giving me a problem......
Strange. I always assumed that fonts worked in the same way as on a PC.
I guess there's a default version of a font somewhere and windows is using that, but when you put a different version in the font folder it uses that instead.
It may be worth asking about this in the generic forum, rather than a leo specific forum.
Either one of these will probably help, but I think the 1st one is probably the correct place to ask...

[Q] Font size on Desire Z

I had this original Desire Z bought a week ago in Hong Kong Broadway. Everything works fine except the fonts are a bit small to me (I am a 50 years old man and the small fonts on DZ got me reading problem sometimes).
I have downloaded a software called "Spare Parts" which it has a function to change the system fonts to various sizes (from extreme small to extreme large) but I tried so many time and the change only applies on the software font size itself but not the system. And when you get out from the application and return to it, the font size that you chose will back to normal again! Other than that, all other functions on this application work OK.
Any guy in the forum can offer me help so that I can change the font size. It can be an application, an instruction......or whatever, except, if possible, no need to flash the ROM.
Thousand thanks in advance!

Are you rooted? Try the app LCDensity.
Turn the number up. But not too much.
Yes, my DZ is rooted and I tried the LCDDensity. This can change but not much as the fonts will overlapped if I make it too large (I pushed to 280). So, the max it can increase is 260, just a little bigger than the original size.
I have also I9000 in hand. Wondering why the I9000 screen is only 0.3" bigger than DesireZ, but the font size on I9000 is much much larger and very visible.
Thanks anyway
This was easily changeable in WinMo, and seems something of an oversight in Android that there isn't a system setting for this. Looks like you're not alone :

Wow....I really thought that I was the only one suffering this font size problem....
I went to several mobile phone shop or some smartphone repairing shop today and asked if they have any good solution for that....but they all turned me down, which means this could be a permanent problem for the Desire-Z. Extremely disappointed as all the other functions on this phone are real well.
Then I also tried on one of the phone shop to see if Desire HD can be better because HC has a 4.3" screen..... but sorry again, larger screen don't mean larger font size. Yes, it looks a bit bigger, but just a bit! Why a 4.3" screen has the same font size as a 3.7" screen? Then, why need a 4.3" screen?
I9000 only has 4" but the font size is very very visible. I was trying to trade-in my new Desire-Z to get another I9000 (I already have one but I have 2 sim cards) but all I9000 are sold out.
So, I have to bring my glasses with me all the time in order to read the phone content....
By the way. I saw from the link (v3.co.uk) that we can flash a Cyanogen ROM, the font could be bigger. Is that true? Anyone flashed that ROM before? Will this ROM conflict with my HK Chinese HTC version?
Really need help on this!

[Q] Gingerbread Keyboard size

Ive looked around and cant seem to find any answers so.
Does anybody know how i would go about making it smaller like in Cyanogen mod 6.1?
I have already changed my lcd density and everything changes except the keyboard size.
Thanks
nobody got any answers if you use a a lcd density app it changes size but if you reboot your phone it goes back to normal size nobody know any file i can change to make this permanent
Edit the build.prop and add qemu.sf.lcd_density=220 or whatever you want to use.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
right ill try that cause i don't have that line in my build.prop
and get back to you
Thanks for the tip it worked a treat
No problem. This was how we got the Gingerbread keyboard to not resize itself to be really small when it was first leaked.
thanks or all informations

can I change fonts size with Honeycomb

hi
I would like to know if can I change fonts size on the galaxy tab 7 7 with Honeycomb ? And how?
the fonts sizes are really small. I can't read it
There is a free app called Big Font for solving this problem.
However, I found that some app doesn't work well with Big Font, among which is the default Calendar app. You could still read the calendar with some other calendar apps, say Pocket Informant (paid), though.
thank you but I meant tthe system system font not apps
or does the Big Font do system font size?
A simple search would have found several threads that answer this question.

No need to be rude, its not like the threads about it actually provides a trouble free solution.

I wasnt being rude, just not ehuggy either. Lack of search is what flutters this forum and makes good info harder to find for others.

Have you tried Spare Parts?
Yes, bigfont will change the system font size. It doesn't work in Kindle and most readers but they have their own font changing ability.
It also won't change the startup screen or the text under icons but all in all, it works well.
