Hey everyone I'm a total noob to rooting. However yesterday I tried rooting with revoked afer getting the evo last Friday. I followed the step by step instructions on Droid demons. Every thing goes fine until it reboot the evo an says "failure to flash recovery image" all three times I tried. What can I do to fix it? I don't have HTC sync or anything else on my pc. An I downloaded all of the drivers. Please help. Thanks in advance
Little more info would help. Did it go thru the entire process. Did it reboot. At what point did you get said message?
It went through the process up till the reboot at which that's when I get the message.
Did u change the drivers in device manager?
Yeah I did the drivers too
I have a droid incredible phone, and I am having issues trying to get the SDK to work properly. Just so you know, I am not rooted as I haven't been able to do that because of the OTA updates and unrevoked needing to be updated and etc.
I have downloaded the JDK and JDE that is supposed to go along with that as well and went through the installation of that. I also had a friend help me get the HBOOT drivers as well. So I am stuck at being able to get the ddms.bat file to stay open when I click on it, I even tried the "right click run as administrator" since I am running on Vista windows. No luck there, and stuck as to not knowing what else I should do.
I can't seem to get anyone to help other than one person which was the friend who got me to do the HBOOT drivers thinking that would help which it didn't. Anyone out there please help me!?!
I rooted my Evo last night with unrEVOked 3.3 and this guide is step-by-step what I did. Hopefully this will help other who are still confused.
NOTE: Make sure any tethering apps are uninstalled prior to doing this. Thanks to SSJon for pointing this out.
Download and install HTC Sync, reboot, uninstall, reboot again.
**Make sure HTC Sync is NOT installed at this point**
-enable USB debugging (menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging)
-Go to unrevoked website and click the Evo, click unrevoked 3, then download for Windows and save the file to your desktop (there's support for Mac OS and Linux, however this guide was written for Windows)
-Go here and follow the instructions to install the hboot drivers
-Reboot your phone and let it load up like normal
-Connect your phone using the charge only option
-Run the unrevoked file you downloaded and wait for it to finish
-Finally, enjoy.
When I used this method my phone had just finished updating to 3.70.651.1 and had hboot 2.10 and fully charged battery. Through a good portion of this your phone cannot charge so I advise you to have a decent charge left.
Thank you PryorDaniel! Worked like a champ. I am running CyanogenMod 6.1.2. So far working like a charm!
Thanks again!
Glad it worked

I'm getting the "internal error: installing package failed" error when using the unrevoked 3.3 program. Any ideas how to resolve it?
No luck, Im getting "failed to unlock NAND flash"
Also, in Device Manager, it says "Android Composite ADB Interface," instead of "Android Bootloader"
Any tips on what I did wrong?
Thanks

Never mind. I had to run the unrevoked program a second time and it rooted it just fine. Meh!

Once the phone is rooted, is there any reason why HTC Sync can't be reinstalled? I don't want my stuff in "the cloud" so I use HTC Sync quite a bit to sync with Outlook.
Thanks!
Pete
Any word on the new clockwork working with older devices? My hardware version is 0003..

Once you are done rooting, you can install it again, and use it. It just cant be installed during root because it messes with the way unrevoked communicates with the phone.
Apply latest ota with unrevoked 3.31
I ran unrevoked 3.31 and am still seeing the 3.29.651.5 build. How do I get the latest ota?
Okay so I did the 3.3 went fine. Now i see there is a newer one 3.31 how do I update to it?

You have to flash a ROM that's based off the newest build. Unrevoked just gets you rooted.
i just ran 3.31 and im getting a message saying "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?" im running 3.70.651.1 i first thought it was because i had easytether installd in my laptop then i uninstalled it, i retried and nothing . idk why thanks and sorry in advance.

I am too. Trying it again. I just downgraded, then put OTA 2.2 on my phone. then ADK, drivers again, and am running the reflash tool.
As a side note, I tried installing the ADK from their site - the one that says recommended. Then successfully installed it, but then decided to uninstall it using Add/Remove programs.....it wiped out my ENTIRE My Documents folder!
I just rooted using Unrevoked on my phone and for some reason when I am at home it says my current location is Chennai, India. I am actually in Dallas, TX though... It seems to be intermittent though. Sometimes it is correct, others it updates to Chennai. Any ideas to why it isn't updating correctly?
Hardware Rev: 003
HBoot: 2.1
im getting waiting for root i wonder how long its gonna take
how long did it take to run the root for you guys
First post....
I have my Gf's HTC evo and been waiting for a Hboot 2.02 One step root....
Tried the steps in this post and do not have HTC sync software installed and I have previously rooted my own Evo. I'm getting a error in Unrevoked3 stating Failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?
Her phone:
Android 2.2
Baseband Version 2.15.00.09.01
Kernal V. 2.6.32.15
Build number 3.30.651.3
Software 3.30.651.3
I have not updated since getting it around Christmas time although there is a HTC update pending. I tried multiple attempts to run Unrevoked 3 before posting and there is always an error on the phone when running it :
Sorry the application Zysploit has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.
I get that error every time. Any way for my to get a simple root still?
Excellant and easy to follow direction. Thanks.
Hey guys, I'm trying to root a friend's phone. I'm attempting to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 and I'm running into issues with Visionary. I'm running version r14 from http://android.modaco.com/topic/320350-19nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
It keeps just sitting at a black screen. This is a completely virgin MyTouch 4G that's running 2.3.4, Sense 2.1, Software number 2.32.531.1
I have ensured that USB debugging is enabled.
Sorry if this has been posted before, I'm just beyond frustrated with this thing right now and I'm to the point where my Attention Deficit Hey Let's Go Ride Bikes is kicking in pretty bad.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Does the computer recognize the device?

You need to downgrade to 2.2 first before you can follow that currently, there is no way to root 2.3...Try this thread, though there are others out there if you search for downgrade
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
I'll downgrade it when I have it in my hand again and post an update after. Thanks.
Phone is in hand and I'll post results in a bit. I also just figured out what my issue with installing the Android SDK on my laptop is. If you run into the error where the SDK installer can't find the Java version, simply install the 32-bit version as well.
Update: GREAT SUCCESS!!! Phone is now running 2.2, permanently rooted, and now it's time to put a ROM with as little bloat as possible on there. Thank you all who helped.
Issues that I ran into:
Problem: I was becoming very frustrated with installing the Android-SDK, as I couldn't get it to recognize that Java was installed.
Solution: I am running Win7 x64 and as such only installed the x64 JDK. Installing the x86 SDK as well solved this problem.
I searched, and all I could find was answers that were long and confusing, or didn't work.
I tried rooting with the motochopper, and it said it was successful, but superuser says there was an error installing superuser and titanium backup says I don't have root access, so I guess it didn't work. Where do I go from here? I need clear explanations for a noob. I only know the basics.
I would really appreciate any help I could get on this. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I think my issues was that I updated. I just got the phone today. Is there any way to roll it back to stock, then root?
Read this thread. I'm not sure if it will help, but it's worth a shot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283900
ya try the last link i posted, its a modded motochopper. If you want to do it clean, format your phone before
It isn't working for me...the run.bat just sits on "daemon started successfully" and it never goes any farther. My phone never shows anything asking for permission, nothing. USB debugging is enabled. I don't know what the issue is.
EDIT: Nevermind! I plugged it into a different USB port and it worked. Phone is now rooted! Thanks!
