Hi, so I took the plunge and ordered a unlocked Streak from UK today. And I was wondering if the stock keyboard has the special characters native to my language. It's not a big issue if it does not, but I am hoping they are there. I live in Norway and use " æ ø å " characters often. It's not a problem that the OS itself is in English, but I would love to have the possibility to write in my native language on it
Please give me a heads up if you know, and also a picture / description on how to find these characters if you can

I checked my streak, unfortunately there are no special characters that you needed.
However, surely you can download/search for an alternative keyboard which may contain the extra characters you need.
Ok, I was considering SlideIt anyway, since its the only keyboard with custom national skins, and I like the slide feature. To bad swype does not have Norwegian layout:-s

You can download language packs for SLIDEIT and they do do Norwegian and to be honest slideit is a lot better than swype
I use Scandinavian keyboard for writing Danish (supports danish, norweigian, swedish etc), requires additional dictionary in the case of danish but works really well.
layout is nice enough, has the special characters, and with the dictionary does predictive text and autocorrect etc
Cheers
ps no link due to post count, but search the market for 'scandinavian keyboard'

hello there,
i got a French tytn (azerty keyboard) with an English rom on it, thats thanks to the fact that if your interested in getting a tytn in France and your not a French speaker....well lets say that you don't have much choices.
any way, i hacked my rom thanks to XDA forums and managed to changed the layout back to "azerty"/the original keyboard layout while staying with an English system, every thing went cool but...the one problem i discovered now is that the predictive dictionary in English has 'died', no more quick suggestions etc. any idea how do i fix it??
the ultimate for me will be an English system with a French keyboard layout and predictive dictionary (English), can it be done???
thanks a lot people, for your time and efforts!
danidin.
Hi all,
Ive never liked any other language than English on any of my devices (it just feels like a really bad synchronized German movie to me if its anything but English) and on my G1 this has always been fine because i just type wickedly fast on my physical keyboard. However, my fancy towards the English menus has infected my other half but she has a Magic so she would actually benefit from a Dutch dictionary, quick-fixes, suggestions and the works.
So here's my question to all you Magic experts; Is there a way to keep the systems language at English but change the dictionary and all stuff related to text input to Dutch?
Thanks!
Any input on this, anybody?
I would think this would impossible from my stand-point. You can only select 1 Keyboard input language (for this example, English) and this means that the dictionary it uses to spell check is the English one. I don't think you can change this procedure at all.
hey, anyone got a clue on how to get norwegian letters on the keyboard?? unfortunatly i'm not dumb enough to pay a bunch for it.....
I would gladly pay for norwegian keybord. Anyone?
This was the first thing I tried on my HD2 as my girlfriend is norwegian! if you hold down the letters 'a' and 'o' then all the other variations will should up (æ,ø,å)
yeah, that's fair enough but those are so common letters that it takes a century just to send an sms....
try the compact qwerty keyboard
i just think the full qwerty is better, i really thought there was a norwegian version out there, that's an idea for those of you that writes your own programs!
Search for Fingerkeyboard 2 on this forum.
It has a bunch of languagelayouts, Norwegian beeing one of them.
It's free and is my standard choice for keyboard.
I would like to know what keyboard languages are built in to the Fascinate? I hope it's not like the Droid2 which only offers English and Spanish out of the box... I need French too!
Edit: I figured out it only comes with English and Spanish by default... Bummer. I know there is an app on the Marketplace called "MoreLocale 2" which is supposed to allow unlocking additional languages. I wonder if it works well on the Fascinate. If anyone has already tried I would love to know the result!
HI! My Aria only has English, French, and Spanish. I want to be able to type in Russian as well. A guy here at work has an HTC with Verizon, and he has lots of language choices. How do you add languages to the Aria?? I tried a third party app but it didn't work. I would like Russian. Thanks!
You need an "input method" that supports keyboard layout switching. The stock Sense keyboard that comes with Aria doesn't allow for that.
But there is a whole bunch of multi-lingual keyboard apps in the market; some a free, and some are not. I like Smartk Keyboard Pro. It costs 2 EUR, but it's the best out there. It After installing it you'll need to download Russian keyboard layout for it, which is free.
Try to search "MoreLocale" in market.
