[Q]UK 6941 - Can't play WMA - Streak 5 General

Anyone else found they can't play WMA encoded files after update? Tried MixZing and stock player, both can't find them. If I browse to the dir in Astro, it says "File type wma not found."
Any fix?

rockplayer! its better than sex with a midget. guaranteed!

OK thanks it looks like RockPlayer works -- if I unselect "show media file only" in the menu.
Erm... why do we love RockPlayer so? No playlists? No library to play all by artist, etc? No widget? What's the big deal?

Could not have put it better myself lol

1. OP complains that the stock and after market music players do not play WMA music files.
2. Somebody suggests RockPlayer which indeed does play WMA files.
3. OP notes that as a music player Rock leaves a lot to be desired.
4. Everybody agrees that Rock is NOT a great music player, but nobody should be critical of that because it's NOT a music player it's really for videos.
5. OP still has problem, no music player will play his WMA files, but now he knows that Rock can do this, but is a ****ty music player.
6. So OP problem remains. Sigh...

LOL nice summary!
Well I've decided I'm going to roll back to 1.6 for the moment (once I've managed to restore my Streak - it's not booting at the moment). There's a lot I miss from 1.6 - Dell's FB and Twitter widgets, the keyboard, restricted apps in the market, the browser tab toggler, etc. 2.1 is pretty, the dialer is great, 720p video recording is great, etc., but these don't compensate for the other missing features.

importing/playing .M4A music files to my Touch HD

Hi Guys...
I'm struggling here, I've surfed the wiki, the FAQs and the web and these seems as though it should be simple but...
I've tried (a) dragging and dropping into the device music folder and (b)importing through syncing with my PC's WMP 11 both with equal success - none to be exact. I can see the name of the file but it won't play.
I've treid some MP3 ring tones and they work OK but I can't listen to those on the tube each morning. Mearly all my music is in iTunes as M4A's which are stated as being compatible and supported - but they don't play.
Any idea's, am I missing CODECs ??? Anyone got an idiot guide for getting music out of iTunes into my HTC ???
Thanx for your help as always...
This one puzzles me.
ALL my music on the HD is in M4A format (because it seems more space-efficient than MP3). It plays no problem with the unbuilt players.
My files weren't from iTunes though. I make them using the Nero codecs on the PC.
m4a from iTunes on touch HD do not work
Hi out there,
I am facing the same problem, I can see my m4a files on the Touch HD but they won't play. After converting them into mp3 it's fine but this is a hassle and the instructions say it can play m4a. Any news on this would be highly appreciated.
The songs are iTunes + and thus DRM free, so this cannot be the problem.
Thanks for sharing any advice,
cheers,
levallier
Hey guys,
I had this problem aswell since I copied my iTunes directory to my SD card. I decided to buy some music player software for my phone since I use it alot so.
Now I'm using Pocketplayer and I've had no problem since .
Regards,

WMP 11 and m4a files
I too am having the same problem. My files are from iTunes and DRM free but they will not play. I believe the problem is that the ROM I have is using WMP 10.3 and only has a WMP 11 skin. I have not found a way to 'upgrade' WMP to any other version..

Try to create an AAC-version...
Hey... I had the same problem: My bought, DRM-free iTunes Plus files did not play on my Touch Diamond2 even though all metadata - including coverimages - showed up nicely in the TF3D Mucis app. After a little research in here, I tried to use the "Create AAC version" option in iTunes and PRESTO - all my music was playable again. I suppose this is due to some incompatibility with the wrapper Apple uses around m4a-files.
If you want to keep track of which files are "originals" and which are AAC-converted versions you can create a smart playlist in iTunes and select by type...
core player have no problems playing any m4a files I got both own conveted and itune bought mind you non drm
and even if one got drm files one can convert them to non drm without any problems using itunes now that apple drop'd drm
I use coreplayer to play both m4a and m4b files. Yes I know its not free, but its well worth it IMO.

Why doesn't my music transfer organized?

Something that really irritates me is that I have my music on iTunes organized but when I transfer with DoubleTwist and play the music on Meridan Music player, it gets disorganized.
Is there any player that retains the organization from iTunes?
bTunes shamelessly mocks the appearance of the player on the iPhone /iPod Touch. It also handles the library in a similar way (unlike many other players for android, it does NOT slaughter compilations by creating an album entry for each artist)
This app is well in beta stage and is a bit rough around the edges. For me, it FCs on phone boot, but nothing seems to stop working. I cant find a homepage for the app, just search for btunes in the market.

One thing I noticed is that Android doesn't have a very good Music management system. It will organize based on what your properties of each song is. It sucks because I had a terrible accident with some garbage media player once and it messed up all of my music's properties. [around 1500 songs]. I took about 2 hours fixing them all because I got tired of not having my Music organized. That's one of my biggest pet peeves.

This issue has been resolved in the latest round of updates. The dev seems to update this app quite often.
I'm looking for bTunes in a few minutes. I was actually thinking of trading my N1 for an unlocked 3GS just because it really irritates me. So will my iTunes library transfer as it is on my Mac?
Anyone able to sort their music on the N1, through any music player, BY DATE ADDED or MODIFIED??
I want to listen to the music I added to the music folder most recently.
I have a big library, and i want to listen to the new stuff first....

Music Player

So now that the 2.2 upgrade has broken the built in media player so that it no longer reads WMA tags, all my albums are found under the "unknown artist" heading
So what is the go to player that does not rely on the android subsystem (3 has the same problem) now?
PS
Converting to MP3 is really not an option.
I can't really help unfortunately, but can confirm Mixzing also suffers from this so guess it uses the same library as default.
I endured the ballache of conversion to mp3 although I kinda had been looking for an excuse to do it anyway.

The problem is that WMV is the only en mass format that gives lossless.
MP3 is fine but doesn't give lossless.
The sound system in my BMW is happy playing MP3 and WMA and WMA lossless but the other lossless formats are not supported.
There is also the argument about 192kbps being better quality than a 192kbps MP3 but lets save that argument for another day
And lets remember, up until Sunday, everything was working just fine

I don't like Mediascape

Hi all,
Is there any alternative coz Mediascape is boring and slow.
For images: JustPictures!
For video: RockPlayer
For music: MixZing
Unfortunately, in order to replace Mediascape, you need 3 different programs.
But if you really hate it, it's worth it.
I don't mind Mediascape for my pictures, but for your music and video I suggest Meridian.
I keep it for photos and videos but for music I've gone back to the stock Android music.apk. I gotta have my playlists!
Zimly looks cool too, and I just dl the latest beta from real player from the market which I will test today...

Confused. The version of Mediascape on my x10 plays all my playlists. Imports them through MediaGo, never had a problem at all.
I actually like mediascape....real player was pretty good to

Try also Tunewiki... Facebook/Twitter integration, lyrics on-screen etc.
It's pretty fast.
I don't like mediascape either, i'm testing ³ for music and is great!
Erasing mediascape make the camera useless?
Real Player Beta is good........................

Since my W810 ( > W760 > C905 ) I've never needed anything other than my phone to make a playlist. I've never needed any of SE's software (besides the actual firmware on the phone of course ;-) ) to transfer music, etc. When I'm working out or sitting in the doctor's office its nice to be able to grab a couple of songs from Amazon, make a playlist, then go back to playing a game or surfing the web.
Besides, my first exposure to Android was this forums project placing 2.2 onto the Tilt 2. The default player is pretty good as far as I'm concerned.

Ahh gottca. Can't make playlists in Mediascape...I see what you mean now.
I use an app called Just Playlists that works for me. But I hear the problem..seems odd that Mediascape does not make them inhouse.
I use Museek for music, great player. Both Mediascape and Timescape are useless.

Nope, the camera works perfect without Mediascape.
I uninstalled it and now found out, that the only problem is that I can't send my music files via Realplayer.
There is no "send file" option in Realplayer.
Apart from that, Realplayer is better than Mediascape for pictures and music imho.
For videos Realplayer can't play I use Rockplayer.
Btw:
If you uninstall Timescape you won't be longer able to use your contacts.
Clicking on a contact in the phone app does nothing.
Before I uninstalled timescape, my phone displayed the available phone numbers and I was able to click the one I want to call.
Thanks for hit on Just Playlists.
I went back to Mediascape just to show it one of my iFriends ( ) and found that it pulls up the playlists generated by the music.apk. So while its a tiny bit cumbersome it does make it more usable.
i am using this:
mixzing for music
rockplayer for videos
OR
nemoPLAYER for all (pics, music and vids)

[Q] What is the best music player for android HD2?

Hi everyone, I would like to know what is the best music player for ANDROID HD2?
The one it comes with is garbage....Any links would be helpful!!! TY ALL
I would recommend Mixzing Media Player. I currently use it on my X10 and feel its the best for music. Lots of options and has a good eq. And I know you didn't ask but Rockplayer for video. Plays it all.
ty i will check it out
I love the default player that comes with all sense builds.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I have tried almost every good music player there is (Mixzing, bTunes, Player Pro, TuneWiki, and some others I don't remember), yet I've come back to using the stock player. Graphically it's not the most appealing there is, but heck, it does what it has to do without all the unneccessary hassle the others have.
Lithium Music Player
4 me is

Yea your right mixzing is horrible too. Ill stick with stock for now.

Horrible?
Gapless playback, music suggestions, equalizer, id3tag editor (once you register it) and a lot of other things and you say that it's horrible?

I absolutely hated this whole suggestions thing. It worked so unintuitively yet took a prominent role, and the suggestions weren't very relevant either.
Mspot is great. i like the way you can also play your music from the cloud.
mini player is my fav based on the fact that it looks at a directory that you point it to, rather than seeking for all media on your sd card like the android player does. also has playlist now.
3 or sometimes called cube by phillip abrantes is a cool player it's in the market
i like tunewiki
Music PlayerPro is my pick. Closest to the stock app. Shows album art. Has 4 decent looking skins. Has its own lockscreen with a widget. And best of all you can select the music folder to play from.
Mixzing was ok. Just did a little more than I needed. I just want to listen to my music and not my ringtones if you know what I mean. Keep it simple.
Try Audio Player with EQ Platinum. It has a very good equalizer.

But you have to say that it isn't very fast, sometimes it stucks with loading music.

Do you know that you can set the folder(s) to scan for media within the options?
Also, regarding suggestions you can also disable them. Do you guys just stop on the first screen or what?

Just wondering if you're talking about the stock sense music player or Mixzing? I've hunted high and low in the stock player and can't find anywhere to tell it where to look.
Horrible yes,ok it is good, but it does not support rewind and forward on my jabra bt 3030....only back skip, and forward skip.....the sense player supports all my jabra functions....
