because i can't just use the phone right now whitout a simcard!!

Hey there, you should do a forum search before posting here. I'm sure your questions have been answered in the forums many times. There're many places you can go to unlock your phone. If you have a local store that can do that I suggest you check them out first. Or you can try remote unlocking services such as: http://www.mobileincanada.com/?l=en&u=all, http://cgi.ebay.com/Unlock-Code-ROG...00523877?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2#ht_5463wt_1137 and last one http://www.htccode.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1916 (this one works for sure). You should be careful though cuz some remote unlocking services are tricky with their refund method. You should check before buying any unlocking codes but the websites I provided have no problem with refunding my money The last website works a 100% for me so I suggest you try that one. Good luck, and don't forget to do a forum search first next time.

Can Vodaphone v1640 be upgraded to roms with other brand?

Dear elite members of XDA-Developers.com:
I am new to Pocket PC Phone and New to HTC Universal, but cerntainly not new for hot gadgets, have owned various Palm and PPC unite. I've been reading there forums and couldn't come up with an confirmed answer.
My question is, can my Vodaphone be able to flash to ROMs like the Asian Dopod, O2 XDA Exec or I-Mate Jasar? If that's out of the question, am I be able to atleast flash the radio from my current 1.04.10 to the newest? I am also without the exe file to flash the radio file. Can someone kindly provide his compatible version to me here? My main concern is can I still flash the whole rom?
I find it is very trouble to unclock any kind of HTC universal currently, I am asking my UK friends to help me find a local service to see if they can unlock my phone, if that attempt failed, I am gonna give a go to www.imei-check.co.uk, just got their comfirm that they can unlock my phone but for a charge of 50GBP plus 16GBP to mail the unit back to me. Which gonna be quite a bit of money even before adding my cost of shipment to send the unit to them.
Finally, please answer my questions, I did the search but couldn't come up with a confirm answer, thank you very much.
Alex
I'll write some more info later but just so you know flashing all Universal devices from one operator rom to another is not a problem.
We have several V1640's running custom brewed ROMs or the AKU2 iMate ROMs without any issues. You will need to use the "No country ID" upgrade exe and you really would need to check the bootloader (read other threads) as bootloaders pre 1.00 can be a bit funny and most of our V1640's where running really old bootloaders and ROMs.

There is no linkage between the SP lock and the ROM image. Even if you upgrade you will not see any difference in this respect.
Thank you for clearing my irresolute mind. I am feel much safer to flash my rom to a much newer version. Any recommandation? Good news is, I do have a bootloader v1.0, this support by what I saw from the bootloader screen, it has v1.0 at the bottom.
Thank you jbn for the the reminder. I've been educated through out these useful forums that there is no charmer to unlock the phone via flashing rom files. Good point yo've brought up that there is no linkage between the SP lock and ROM image. Maybe that's why when I asked www.imei-check.co.uk a question that is sort of vice versa, I asked them after unlocking, can I still flash the phone to a newer software without affecting the unlocked status of the phone, that answer was a firmly 'NO'.
Thank you guys for the answer. By reading the forums, I've got a impression that the only way to unlock this phone without sending the phone out is to contact the provider, which in this case is Vodafone UK. I've called them and they said they need a phone number that come with this phone when it was purchased. I've been trying to work with the eBay guys who sold me this phone to get a phone number. But he seems unwilling to cooperate with me by agreeing to look for on-line unlocking service for me. Which I've already looked.
I am planning to call Vodaphone again see if I can get a unlock code from them without the phone number for a charge. Before I do that, is any of you guys have experience that this will work? Or is there any possibility that you can legally own a vodaphone without owning a phone number (signing contract). Because the guy did mention that he bought the phone without phone numbers, and he's selling whole bunch of them.
Thank you again
Alex

Searh And Read First
First i would advice not to post your im because we dont need it to tell you info on unlocking
Second try to search the the forums but if you dont know what to search for or are lazy to search then her is the guide:
READ FIRST AND AFTER THAT READ AGAIN JUST TO MAKE SURE WHAT YOU ARE GETTING YOUR SELF INTO. NO ONE WILL BE RESPONSOBLE IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE
For G3 wizards only
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
but if you have A G4 wizard (a G4 PDA will report an IPL and SPL similar to 2.21.0001 and a G3 PDA will report something similar to 2.21 (notice the G3 doesn't have the trailing .0001) Search around the "Wizard upgrading etc." forum
And a good advice is to search and read the forums and the forum rules (i hope you did read them)
easy way
l called Tmobile cs and told them I was going abro ad to Europe & I ordered/have an European payperMinute SiM...(use another carrier siM For now.example:Boost Mobile,Vodafone, orange, At&t / cingular. Walmart pay go tmobile etc...) easy way!!!They will ask you for a Valid email address & wizard 200 imei #(make sure You get it by going into settings on phone, Sometimes box & sticker in Phone not correct)...2-48 hours later I received a code in my email and wrote down. When you Power off phone switch Sims...when you power on device...white screen will load and display "please enter unlock Code"(not verbatim) More than likely the code will work 99%. CAUTION!!! YOU HAVE 5 CHANCES TO CORRECTLY ENTER CODE (my phone sticker & box ImeI sticker were different From phone settings imei so double Check imei before giVing to tMobile CS...3rd time was charm) phone will Unlock & search for network ! 2 months using at&t pay go between Unlocked sda & mda devices.
That only unlocks the sim...to make any mods, you need to sim/cid unlock...search xda for Lokiwiz, then read the directions carefully. Lokiwiz is actually MUCH easier than calling Tmo and waiting. There is a thread here called "unlocking for dummies" or something like that. Again, use search.

No easy roads to be found at xda
And yes, as stated...RTFM's!!! The wiki's and stickies are there for a purpose. We at xda are not responsible for anything you attempt, and therefore it really is the best to learn anything and everything you can about your device before trying any modifications. READ READ READ, be dilligent and don't take the easy way out or you are likely to turn thAt expensive phone into a pretty designer paperweight!

is there a clear way to do things ?

hi all, this is my first post but have been viewing a while,

1. i have a standard out of the box o2 xda orbit that i purchased from car phone (you know the shop) and it came unlocked to any network, its obviously running the o2 version of WM5, im using a vodafone sim and have followed various settings to try get my gprs/mms/internet working but just cant get anywhere,

3. i seem to find the forums scattered with instruction i have searched and tried to compile some sort of understandable document but im reluctant to use it incase i have missed something in my search,
is there an easy to follow newbies guide out there, if so can you point me in the right direction,
i am on other forums for different things and im aware of the etiquate of asking for information thats already there, i have searched but i dont want to turn this phone into a brick just because in my search i have missed a step that i was not aware of in the first place,
i hope you can all understand why i have asked this question, some that have bricks might and others with the knowledge may not, lol, well dont those people,
all the best and i hope this will be a good start for me here,
Eddie

I need Help!!

Hello,
I am a recently new user to the forum, so first of all Congatulations for the work done here.
I have a little problem, and dont know if this is the right place for someone to help me.
I live in Portugal and I have bought an HD2 trough a cell operator called TMN, I have already made an HardSPL an installed an Android NAND OS.
I tought that trough the HardSPL my HD2 will be unlocked, but it wasnt!!!
When I put a Vodafone card, after putting the sim password it asks me for another code and I dont know what it is.
Can anybody help me?
Best Regards from Portugal,
MPaixao
What you need to do is SIM unlock your phone. You could either try the operator who sold you the phone (it may cost you, but if you don't ask then you will never know if they do it for free) or have a search around this forum for unlocking and find recommendation on folks/sites who will unlock it for you (this will definitely cost you).
Hello,
Thank you for your answer. I have already been talking to the operator, I wont tell here how much he asked to unlock my phone, so that you wont keep the wrong idea of Portugal. But I told him to.......whatever!
I have already searched through this forum and through the web and all I could find were international sites that charge a symbolic fee to provide the code. Most of what Ive read say that these are not thrustable.
I dont care about paying a symbolic fee to a thrustworthy person.
Do you know somebody.
Have an HD2 and not beeing able to use it its kind of bad...
Best Regards from Portugal,

[DISCUSSION] Read SIM Unlock Codes from the S7 Exynos (SM-G930F)

Hi, I own a Samsung S7, International version ( SM-G930F ). Wanted to unlock it to use it with other companies, and did some research in order to be able to unlock it manually (I used to unlock all phones by my own, this one is harder that usual).
Well, this might be a new phone and a solution may not be present here yet, but I know that some programs allow you to read the SIM unlock codes from the phone z3x allows you to do that, Octopus and ChimeraTool too, among others.
So... it really may be possible to do this manually.. rooting the phone, of course..
I know that the S4 allows you to do this quite simply:
just opening a terminal and typing:
su [enter]
strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 [enter]
to get the UN_Lock_code, and then performing some calculation using the IMEI number and the UN_Lock_code, followed by some further really simple ordering algorithm, you can find the full algorithm here.
That being said, if we could get the UN_Lock_code from the S7, the algorithm may even be the same.
The bad news is that /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 doesnt even exist on the S7 file system, so obviouly they somehow improved the security on this phone, but the tools mentioned above are able to get this unlock codes anyway, so it surely exists a way to read them from the phone in some other way.
If you are a developer working on any of these tools, or have the knowledge to investigate this on your own, please give me your feedback ! People here on xda and all over the world will appreciate a solution:
Doing this manually obviously requires some skills to root the phone in the first place, maybe install the terminal or use ADB, so the unlocking business wont be affected at all.. and it avoids trouble with unlocking companies that give wrong codes and dont refund.
So I only see advantages in this. Thanks a lot to the developers that give this issue a try, I maid my own little research and I think that getting the UN_Lock_code or SIM unlock codes is really possible in the S7 Exynos.
Good luck, and any feedback will be greatly appreciated !
In the UK once you've had your phone for 6 months the carrier has to give you the unlock code IIRC
I'm with o2 and the o2 app has a setting to unlock the phone with a warning that you must still honour the remainder of your contract

Yep I know that some carriers are able to get the codes from the manufacturer, samsung in this case, and even have their own DB of unlock codes for each of their IMEI numbers, this codes are then compared to the ones in the phone, if the code matches any of the codes in the phone, then it unlocks, else counter is incremented.
This thread is about getting the unlock codes from the phone, as some applications do, such as z3x, Octopus, ChimeraTool.
The question is: If this tools are able to get the codes inmediately from the phone, which file are they accessing inside the phone, and which further steps are they performing
The reasoning behind all this is that if all of these tools can do it in some seconds, then we can do it.
I'm actually looking for some explanation, similar to the S4 thread linked above. Or failing that, where can we investigate further to finally get this information.
Thanks a lot !
EDIT: Maybe this is not the best section, but this discussion is related to Samsung S7 EEPROM and filesystem layout, reverse-engineering and investigation.
