Turning off 3g - Galaxy S I9000 General

On my I9000 I don't know how to browse webpages offline. I'm using the Dolphin Browser HD. I want my phone to prompt me and ask my permission to connect to 3g.
How do I do this?

well, it's not built in, so you'll need an app for that but unfortunately I'm not familiar with such. So you can use some widget to turn on/off APN. search in the market, there are dozens of such widgets.

I use the data-on-demand app, it's free and works just like it should (for the galaxy s) at least.

Great tablet apps I've found

I'm sure there'll be a ton of this type of thread, but I glanced around and didn't see anything recent. Here's what I've found that I really like for Tablet use:
Productivity type apps:
QuickPic - it's really a phone photo viewer but it gives a lot better quality pictures than the built-in app.
CNBC Real Time- wow, this is what a tablet app should be! If you trade stocks or watch financial markets, this is a killer app!
USA Today for Tablet - another excellent tablet news app
Tablet Keyboard - $.99 but if you need arrow keys or want a split-screen keyboard for thumb use, it's great. Missing features like auto-cap or auto-complete, so be aware. I use this primarily with ConnectBot for controlling servers because of the arrow keys.
Thinking Space - works rather well as a mindmapping app
AndChat - IRC client. Works well despite being a phone app
Calibre Library - full disclosure: I wrote this. Optimized for Honeycomb, connect to your Calibre desktop app wirelessly, and if you're a real geek even over the Internet if you know how to set up your desktop app right.
ConnectBot - again a phone app, but works well on the tablet.
Other
Asteroid Belt Live Wallpaper - just cool
Games
Gun Bros - Plays well on the tablet.
Dungeon Defenders: FW Deluxe - Designed for Tegra 2
I also tried the CNN tablet app, but it constantly crashes and won't play the videos even though it's designed for Honeycomb.
Thanks for the list, theres some gems in there. CNN app works great on my Iconia btw, havent seen a crash and video is perfect.

Have both and agree they are great.
great thread
FlexT9 keyboard. It's what ShapeWriter morphed into after they got acquired. Tap, swipe, talk, or draw. Totally kicks ass, and is optimized for the tablet.

I still can't get video, it always tells me video is not available offline, despite the fact my wiress is connected and it just downloaded the list of videos...
Let's see.. Those that have CNN working with videos, are you rooted or not? For me when I had my Xoom, it didnt work either (rooted), If not, i have no idea what the deal is.
CNN app works fine for me and I'm not rooted.
any suggestions for office documetns apps? trying quick office. Any other suggestions?
As stated my CNN app doesn't work - and yes I'm rooted. I usually run "Airplane" mode with wifi enabled (that whole try to stop sucking battery for 3G that I don't have tip,) but I also tried disabling airplane with wifi enabled to no avail.
I did replace my wpa_supplicant file to enable ad-hoc networks.

Might try to download the latest version... the release notes state:
NOTE: "Offline" message that some users are getting while viewing stories is resolved in this build. Thanks for your patience!
As far as file commanders go, I prefer Ghost Commander, its a lot like the Norton Commander of old, two columns.
watch espn
Watch espn is a great tablet app to watch espn as long as you have a certain cable provider watched baseball last night over 4g tether
I'm using Touchdown for Tablets for my work email and calendar, works great, looks great, actually lets me synch my notes and tasks in addition to emails, contacts & appointments.
Love the Kindle app
I haven't used any of the other office apps yet so I can't speak for how they work on Honeycomb

Nope - mine already has that version. Right now, clicking any story that has a video just makes the screen flicker a brief moment and go back to the list of stories. I'll stick with USA Today I guess.
Tried replacing the wpa supplicant file with the original, and it still pulls the offline error. I am rooted and honestly could not give a crap about this app. Just Saying.
Uninstall and disable adblocker reinstall reboot a voila it works. Adblocker is the problem hence the problems exists with rooted users. Again I dont give a crap about this app but hope it helps those who do.

internet on desire hd not working

hi all, browsing web pages on my desire hd via 3g network has became a no go. it works fine with wifi. weird thing is though the mobile network is working, ive done a speed test, all my widgets update and using the market is ok but when i bring up dolphin browser hd or the original internet app the progress bar is right at the start then it disappears and it stops trying to load the page, weird
anyone else seen this? not tried a reset yet (would like to avoid). ive turned the phone off and removed the sim but didnt think that would help seeing as though the 3g is working
cheers all
UPDATE - re-installed browser still nothing, installed firefox and it works ok, but dolphin and the stock net app still dont work
Some times ago I have similar problem in Poland.
But this was a problem with the network, not with the device.
Try to change for the while only for gsm, reeboted and back to the dual mode.
Seems like a login issue in network.
If it works in firefox, go to the settings, applications, manage applications, "all" tab, find dolphin browser and the regular browser (called simply "internet" I believe) and press the button that says "clear data". That will reset the apps. You will lose any bookmarks or passwords though.
So inspite of title, really what you have is a problem with Dolphin HD and browser, as Raze suggests try clearing the app data and caches and see if that helps.

[Q] Possible to make Opera Mini default web browser with 3g only?

1) Im using a centralised bookmark app called "Bookmark Home"
2) When i click a bookmark, i want to use Android Browser with Wi-Fi
3) When i click a bookmark, i want to use Opera Mini with 3g
Is there any way to set this up without rooting?
I basically want a centralised bookmark app that launches my bookmared websites in opera mini with 3g and browser with wifi.
Anyone got any suggestions?
That sounds like a job for tasker

Browser not working

For some reason, the browser my XOOM hasn't been working since yesterday. Another thing that broke down a about the same time (which may or may not be related) is Google Bookmark Sync, along with Google Reader sync.
I've tried to delete chache and data of the reader app, as well as the browser, reboot the device and also remove (and re-add) my Google account.
The weirdest thing here is that my XOOM is connected to the internet (via WiFi) and all apps apart from the Browser and Reader work perfectly.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.
Maybe who ever is providing the wifi started to block certain things like browsing & google products. Can you try a different wifi?
I doubt that. It was my home WiFi, and all my other devices were working fine. I also tried changing the network to my phone's WiFi Hotspot, but that didn't work either. Any other ideas?

can you try to access the market and download firefox or opera. Try browsing the web with one of those. This can be a temp fix until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

Yeah, I already did that.
As for the problem itself, the Ice Cream Sandwich update (which came to my XOOM this afternoon) magically fixed it.
Now, as good as that is, I'm pretty curious about the cause of the issue.

AdBlock and open Wi-Fi agreement?

I notice that when I try to connect to a commercial open wifi like at an airport or McDonald's, I will see my browser open for like a split second then close. I'm pretty sure this is the page that asks me to agree with wifi regulations. This often results in me not being able to use the wife even though it's connected. Is this an adblock issue? Is there a fix other than turning adblock off entirely?

have you tried a different browser like chrome or dolphin. I usually have this when I stay at a hotel, I open the browser in a new tab to agree with T&C and then just leave that tab alone, open a new one and browse from there.
That's the problem. I can't get to the T&C screen. I see the open wifi (for example at Target) Then just after it connects, the browser will flash open for a split second then close. Then when I try to open a new tab or browser window, it won't open to a T&C page, and thus I cannot use the wifi even though I'm connected. I'm assuming this has something to do with adblock, but I can't find the option to shut it off (assuming it's a problem with adblock). Any suggestions?

What adblocking software are you using? (i.e. browser extension or an app that modifies the hosts file, like AdFree)
I usually get a "sign in to wifi network" notification that I can tap to open the new tab with the T&C page.
I have sacs rom and I see "adaway" in the "manage apps" screen, but I don't see a shortcut to it in the apps drawer or in any of the settings. So I don't know how to adjust it.
I don't get a click to sign in notification, maybe that is turned off some how.

If you installed comadose that is likely what is doing it, it has a built in ad blocker
