tip** homescreen scrolling more fluid. - EVO 4G General

Hey everyone I am rooted and running cm6 so I don't have the fps issue. However alot of people have said that when scrolling it is not very smooth.
I have a fix that helps me a lot and I reccomend everyone trying it. I use launcher pro and think its awesome. But I havethe setting that disables wallpaper scrolling. This way tour wallpaper doesn't change or scroll. It helps a lot and looks as fluid as the iphone.

No adwlauncher=bad tip. There are scroll settings if you didn't know. Also clear data/after updates of rc and nightlies. Use darktremor app2sd.

ADW Launcher here.
If you don't use a live wallpaper, the app drawer = very smooth.
Scrolling between homescreens is smooth on Cm6 as well.
And you can even mess with scroll settings in ADW Launcher. I got it to a point where I like it.

Swipe to change home screens not working all the time!

Ok so this is a weird problem.
90% of the time the phone works 100% perfectly.
Sometimes when I try to swipe between homescreens the phone does nothing...its not locked up because the capacitive buttons work, and tapping the bottons on the bottom will let me switch home screens without a problem, it is JUST swiping that wont work.
A reboot of the phone makes swiping work again...any ideas? This is super weird.
Are you using the default Gingerbread launcher? I heard a lot of people were having trouble with that at the outset. Haven't heard as much about it lately, but I'm not sure if that's because it's been fixed or just because everyone's either learned to live with it or switched launchers.
Back when I was using the stock launcher, I experienced that a few times too. I also experienced other glitches and oddities, like difficulty in moving icons on my home screen or sometimes when trying to move icons, they would disappear and appear instead in a folder. Very random stuff. Anyway, the screen swiping issue also showed up a few times.
I've since switched to ADW launcher and haven't looked back.
Gingerbread is glitchy. That much is clear. Hopefully Google will issue more bug fixes soon.
Training am using the stock launcher. I really like the 3d app drawer and it is buggy in launcher pro. How is it in adw?

I find ADW to be thoroughly awesome. You can give the free ADW.Launcher a try, but it's missing a few features that are in the paid version ADWLauncher EX, including the 3D app drawer. Unfortunately, you don't get much of a trial period now that Google has reduced their refund window to 15 minutes, but you ought to be able to test out the app drawer and play around with the other features at least a bit in that time if you want.
I too vouch for ADW. The free version itself is quite an excellent launcher. I used to be an avid LauncherPro fan back on my Vibrant, but on the Nexus S, ADW is smooth as butter. The ability to customize your icons on the home screen (which is only available in the paid LP version) is great too. Virtually no hiccups whatsoever swiping through screens.
Either case, it's tons better than stock launcher.
I have the same exact problem and I'm all stock. I usually reboot all apps and programs using FastReboot from the market and it goes back to normal. I agree that Gingerbread still has its glitches still =[
So if o pay for adw launcher the 3d drawer works fine?

Who knows? Download it and see. All I can tell you is it works great for me.
The stock launcher is buggy as hell. I use launcher pro and it runs flawlessly.

The 3d app drawer (called 4d app drawer in adw) runs horribly on the nexus s. If you plan on changing launchers, adw is good, but the only decent app drawer to select for it is horizontal fling.
Adw holds up relatively well now on the nexus s (ran like arse on 2.3.1). Sometimes however adw will all of a sudden freeze though. You think your phone is frozen but it's not, the launcher has just slowed down to a crawl. The launcher buttons at the bottom work fine when this issue occurs, but swiping of screens will appear not to work.
If you get this problem in adw, you have to go into applications and find adw, then force close it (it doesn't appear as running under task killers, so you can't kill it from there). It will then run fine again. I have had this happen a couple of times with adw and I used to think I had to reset the phone. Was a pain.
The stock launcher problem you have stated in this thread I have encountered as well, which is why I moved to adw. While the stock launcher appears to use acceleration in the app drawer, which i love too, the regular launcher home screens are basically unusable at this stage. I hope they fix it soon, but it likely wont be for a while.
This happened on my G1, my Nexus One and my Nexus S.
I finally wised up and installed LauncherPro (on my N1 and NS) and the problem doesn't happen anymore. In fact, LauncherPro is way faster than the default launcher.
The age-old (and largely pointless) debate between LP and ADW aside, the OP already said LP didn't work well for him.
Hit Menu > Manage Applications > Running > Menu > Show Cached Processes > Launcher > Stop > Home
Swiping will work again after that, until the next time the bug occurs. Quicker than rebooting though.

As opposed to just swipe >.

I'll just deal for now that problem comes up like once a week so its not a huge deal
Wow that worked...thanks

launcher pro vs ADW?
I want to get something new too but I don't want to customize my phone TOO much because of the steep learning curve and having to remember how things work.
Anyone know which of the two is most similar to the stock launcher?

[Q/Bug] Lag/SlowSystem with Live-wallpapers?

Ok heres the problem: I set my background to a Live Wallpaper (For example Galaxy (Default L-WP)) and am running ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro with 3D AppDrawer enabled.
When i now open the AppDrawer and scroll up and down, its VERY LAGGY(Not fluid). It isnt the CPU, its set to 1,3ghz and it still lags.
PS: It's not only the 3D Drawer.. every drawer lags.
Would you test this aswell and report, also does anyone know how to fix this its very annoying?
I don't know if this issue is related to yours but I often find that MS2's screen has a delay of fractions of seconds. I am pretty sure it is not the speed of CPU which matters, as such lag is not found in DEFY. So I am thinking this (and probably yours) is the problem of the optimization of the software (well we all know Blur sucks).

This is what I think. Sometimes my 3D Appdrawer with ADW Launcher EX is not fluid even without running any 3D Live Wallpapers.
And some games lag as well when they should not CPU wise.
Does MS2 require some kind of lagfix like the Samsung i9000 to make it more responsive?
I dont know.. would be interesting to know
I found the most recent version of ADW Launcher EX to be a little laggy, the prior versions were perfectly smooth for me.
If I have a LWP running then scrolling is generally laggy and not fluid, I experienced the same effect with all prior versions of ADW Launcher EX and launcher pro. (LWP = laggy scrolling)
When I say "laggy", I mean, the response to my touch is fine, but the motion is laggy/jittery
Thanks for repeating what i have said....

How to fix home screen auto orientation switch lag

Hello,
I don't know if anybody know about this fix or not, but I've just found a way to fix the lag when the home screen auto-orient from landscape to portrait and vice versa: click on the + button that you use to add widgets and apps to the home screen, select any tab other than the add widget tab, go back to your home screen and that's it no more lag! I believe the left and right screen transitions are smoother as well.
I do not know if this problem/fix is specific to our tab or honeycomb as a whole, but I'm glad I found a workaround since it was really bothering me. I hope this can be useful to somebody.
Wow - that really works well; thanks!
Hmm, still a bit laggy. 3-5 seconds to re-orient due to rotation. Seems too long, IMO.
...Ok, maybe a small reduction.
Hmmm 3 to 5 secs was what I had before the fix, it's now only about 1 sec.
Do you have many widgets and use a live wallpaper perhaps?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
No live wallpaper, just minimalistic text and weather widget.
I don't know why but this works perfect! I went from a whole 6 seconds for the orientation to change to near instant changes. I noticed once you choose a different tab, I have apps shortcuts chosen, if you go back into the + menu that tab is still selected. This is a strange bug but awesome. Thank you
i really didn't spend much time on the stock launcher, but launcher pro switches quickly.

I concur. The best way to get rid of the lag is to use a different launcher. Personally, I prefer ADW Launcher EX because it is "optimized" for Honeycomb, but LauncherPro is a great alternative.
I've never had more than a 1 second orientation lag. What am I doing differently?

Are they smoother? I think my biggest Honeycomb pet peeve is the choppiness when swiping to different home screens. It makes the tablet feel slow to me. I have LauncherPro on my Nexus S but Im not sure if I'd use a phone launcher on a tablet...
Strangely its working !!!!!!!!!!!!
Huh, it does work. But doesn't survive a reboot. Have to redo after reboot.
Amazing indeed! Great find! Will test on my friends thrive tomorrow too. I think that HC, for some odd reason, is caching the widget drawer on the background and it might be straining the orientation of the device. They need to have HC keep the alo or other drawer on default instead to keep his from happening every time you restart.

thanks dude work like a charm
Anybody know if there is any way we can submit a bug report to Samsung/Google?

[Q] Multipicture Live WP issue using Nova Launcher

Hi,
In Photoshop I have created/edited a wallpaper that will span out over 3 screens on my Nexus 4. I have cut the wallpaper in three pieces and used MultiPicture Live Wallpaper to set them in the right place. With desktop visualizer I made my wallpaper 'interactive'. *Here you can see what it looks like: postimg.org/image/desh9jh9z
In Nova Launcher Prime I set the scroll animation to 'none' and in Multipicture LWP to: 'slide'. This way I can create the effect that you're scrolling through the water, as if it was one big wallpaper instead of three different ones. I thought I was done and ready to go.
Now here's the problem: The animation does work, but when sliding between screens it looks all jumpy and laggy. First I thought it had something to do with MultiPictur LWP being buggy, or live wallpapers in general but I can pretty safely say that's not the case. When I change the scroll animation in MultiPicture from slide to any another effect it runs very smoothly.
I think the problem is that there in fact is no lag, but the sliding speed of Nova and the sliding speed of MultiPicture are different. When the wallpaper moves at a different pace/speed/time than the apps and widgets, it creates the illusion of lag and stuttering. The animation of MultiPicture seems to be a little slower. I tried changing the scroll speed on Nova Launcher to try and match the speed of MultiPicture, but without any succes. I tried using Apex Launcher instead of Nova, but with no succes either.
I hope I provided enough information to give you guys and idea of the problem. I'm open to any kind of solution, another launcher, another Wallpaper App, I would just like my theme to work as smooth as possible
Thanks in advance!
