[Q] Old applications still available in new version - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
my problem is, that my "old" applications which i had installed in my first Android version (FroyoStone Clean) are still available after formatting my sdcard, flashing new Windows Mobile custom rom and trying out mattc´s build with sense.
What i´m doing wrong?

i have only two apps in this folder, but in android there are all apps installed, i´ve had before.
Something strange is happening...

Maybe this thread will give you an idea why.

WM6 Backup?

Ok I want to do a full Backup of my Herald, so if it crash that i can go into Windows, fire up a program, pressing "restore old ROM" and it is the way i had backuped it.
I know some programs, that are storing backup datas like sms, contacts etc. - but thats not enough for me.
So is there a program that can fulfill my needs?
( and yes, i read a lot in the forum here - but i didn't found anything or i'm just a bit blind )

When you do a backup of your ppc with spb backup, it will backup everything that is on your device (ROM) that is not part of the ROM itself.
It means that all programs installed after a hard reset, all the databases (mails, contacts, notifications,...) all the registry, and all files not being part of the ROM.
So if you do a hard reset and you restore the backup it will be exactly the same as it when you did the backup. And I think that it is what you want.
Caution, if you do an OS up/downgrade, your backup is useless. This backup cannot be either installed on another device.
Cheers,
Fred
ok sweet - ty fred. another question: what if i changed the ROM - how to backup that ? no solution yet?

This is device dependent. With some of them, it is possible, with others it's not, for several reasons. If you don't find tools or someone who managed to do it and provided the way to do so, well you're stuck... I think dumping is not the biggest problem, the real problem is the restore stuff. Sorry, but it is so.
Cheers,
Fred
hehe ok ok - i would be a step closer to my goal if i would find a way to unlock the ROM/ break into, so i can change files in there...

What do you mean? If you're talking about doing it 'live', forget about that. But if you're talking about changing the contents of the Rom before doing the upgrade, well the tools are already existing and kitchens too (depending on the device)

Fred
Well ok - i searched my ass off through the forum, but i didn'T found any solution to get my current WM6 ROM out of the mobile phone ( so i can edit it ).

It should be an official Rom, am I right? If it is the case, download it on the official site and use NBHExtract to get the dump of the .nbh file and rebuild it. Have a look in hermes forum and in xda-wiki
Cheers,

Yeah it is official, but the thing is: there are no downloads avaiable yet. and thats the point so i'm a bit stucked here...

hehe been there almost 6 times today - and if you try to download them, they would fail.
And the thing is: my current ROM versions exceeds hell of the versions on that page. so why should i use the old ones ? thats not really what i want to :/

yeah upload what you have got then we can debug it ourselves, will make it easier than trying to tell you what to do.
Try clearning cache and data in recovery before installing
im uploading now yes i edited the boot.img using the sdk version and used several bits from the desire honeycomb port not sure if its right at all and haven't changed the modules yet. If im completely heading in the wrong direction please inform me and i will give up
Here is my original attempt i've made several edits since but none have worked so here http://www.mediafire.com/file/vcn45ihdfgcjmhg/honeycomb.zip
right, what you have uploaded looks to me like its purely a Desire rom, you have not changed anything at all... no wonder its not booting!

[Q] Using Nand kernels on SD build

How do you use a Nand kernel on an SD build?
Specifically, I want to use Marc's v 1.5 Sense kernel on Boxmax v6.5 Sense 3.5 build. Boxmax did provide the v 1.4 kernel packaged for his build, but has since said he will stop developing due to other priorities.
So basically, I'm currently using the 1.4 kernel, and I would like to upgrade to the 1.5 kernel. How would I go about doing that? Is it as simple as replacing the zimage? or is there some other things I have to do?
Anyone have any idea how to do this?

Well, that's what I'm asking how to do.
I have an SD build. I can't use CWM to flash the kernel. So I'm asking for the proper way to do it.
There's a zimage file. There's also a META-INF folder and a system folder.
Do I just replace the zimage file on the Android folder on my SD card? Or is there more I have to do?
It would help if you actually read my first post...

It would really help if you use search but nevermind.
Find guides how to cook rom. In there there is part choosing your kernel.
Be aware that u may get into problems by replacing/updating kernel

Thanks for the response.
I was just mainly going through the threads hoping someone would post an answer or something similar. I tried google search, focusing it specifically on the XDA website, but after going through ~3-4 pages and not finding anything remotely close, I gave up.
Anyways, thanks for pointing me in a direction (hopefully the right one).

Thanks for trying Cjovecje!, but... everything you have posted was about Nand roms, and didn't talk about SD roms at all. SD rom information is much harder to find I don't know if you tried using a SD build vs a Nand build, but the two are very different in how they are set up and run.

Stuck at Android system recovery utility 3e.

Hello guys.
I'm really sorry for writing this topic - others I found didn't really help me, I am begginier with Android. ZTE Blade is my 1st smartphone with this OS.
I was not interested in installing custom ROMs etc, but I needed to backup my applications, so I had to root my blade. I did Temporary Root by using z4root. After having some fun using Titanium Backup, I had to turn my phone off/on. I did so.
Now I am stuck at Android system recovery, which looks clearly like this: bongizmo.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/IMG_1364_macro_h500.jpg (picture found by using Google Images)
First of all, I tried to reboot - still same. Then i tried to wipe, followed on rest of two options. I'm still stuck at this and I am really confused, don't know what should I do now.
I would love to get any information on how to solve my issue. I'd also like to know every reason of this behavior - what could I've done wrong?
Oh, god, i was just about to have fun playing ragnarok online on my smartphone! :<
Regards.

*Looks at pic* Well this is new and interesting.
Exact specs of phone, is it a Gen1/2/3, where did you buy it how much ram does it have, is it a V880+ or a U880 or just a plain old V880?
You're going to have to use a TPT so these things must be known or it will not work. Fortunately this phone is almost un-brickable without resorting to physical violence so it can be restored if you just know the specs.
And don't worry, i've done worse things to my phone just to try something that in the back of my mind i KNEW wouldn't work.

[Install Q] Installing DataOnExt, after?

Hey Everybody,
first of all, Happy Merry Christmas,
guys, I try to understand if what I looking for can be done or if there is some way to do so.
I find many NAND Android ROMs which are without DataOnExt, for example HyperDroid-CM7.
But I will be glad to know if can be possible to install DataOnExt after flashing the ROM on NAND.
someone can tell me if this is possible? Please...
Cheers in advance..

Dear Marvlesz,
I was writing a PM to you just to ask you about that but I changed my mind and I opened this thread,

That thread is a lot too complicated to make it right, there is not any easy way?
I mean flash DataOnExt anfter installation or something similar?
Haha, I am not making you a criminal or anything, but rather YOU are making yourself a criminal.
I mean seriously, here is a quote of that post:

I noticed that you rarely thank those who try to help you, or even manage to help you!
Thanks by words is not beneficial for them as much as pressing the thanks button. The button is there for a reason.
I also ask you kindly to go over your past threads, such as the almighty battery life thread, and thank everyone who tried to help you. Not just by saying "Thanks!", but by pressing their thanks button!
An example is shown on the above post, the thanks button is located right next to the "Quote" button.
I click thanks for you.
Last one thing, the DataOnExt have to be flasher via recovery, buy I do not have the recovery installed on my Phone, I got Android on NAND which was installed via MAGLDR in Flasher Mode.
Now if I will flash the Recovery my Android will be deleted, right?
I can't find any explanation for this, do I have reinstall all again?
I'm afraid you'll have to reinstall everything from scratch .
Why are you using the flasher anyway? All ROMs that use flasher are old and outdated .
(By the way, I didn't mean just thank me, I meant everyone.)

not so, , , OP could use cwm that runs from sd card, and use that to flash the dataonext.zip to the current android, , HOWEVER, , the fact that he has no cwm on there already tells us that the version of android he is using is probably the original proof of concept (desire stock) and may or may not work with an ext anyway (its not rooted, for a start), so OP would be better picking a more up to date rom anyway (one with dataonext built in would be a good start) and flashing again anyway.

I did that on one of my two HD2, 1 have Gingerbrad and the another one have ICS 4.0.4 but currently ICS give me big problems to run programs which Gingerbrad do not have. On ICS I can install the apps but they crash after run them.
So now I try to keep my Gingerbrad but expand it with DataOnExt, anyway run CWM from sd is a good idea, I will give a shot on that, if something go wrong I will reinstall all from scratch again.

I was skeptical when I wrote that sentence, because I knew you'd come and say something like that. Because that happened before.
But I also wanted him to cope with the rapid development of the HD2 and the recoveries. Besides, that ROM is outdated anyway, i.e. the ACA gingerbread.
