HELP PLEASE BROKE MY HD2's Screen!!! - HD2 General

hi everyone so i managed to break my hd2s screen yeah i know it sucks.. right now im in the process of changing the digitizer for a new one i bought off of ebay.. i took the phone apart that was pretty simple but while doing so i removed many glue copper like stickers and also adhesive strips specially the one holding the digitizer and the lcd together.. my question is if anybody knows where i can buy the adhesive strips.. and most important the cooper like tape since it was covering the sides and the back part where the battery goes.. has anyone been successful at fixing their broken hd2 and is the copper-like tape important.. or can i just use some regular hot temperature resistant tape? well thanks in advance for the help

Moving topaz to a new housing (I dropped the old one)

I dropped my phone about a week after I got it and chipped the edges pretty bad. I purchased a new housing on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270480549174&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT) and figured out how to move to phone into it. The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to move the digitiser. Does anyone know?
Also the housing I bought didn't have the seal that the LCD sits on. Is in ok for the LCD to sit on the bare metal of the housing ?

Umm I have no idea. I'm gonna attempt this for myself in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna do a practice teardown now just to have the know how to do it quick. I'm gonna buy the Housing off ebay with the digitizer. It's like $34-$43. Someone had mentioned that you have to get a new digitezer. But they did move the guts out of a Pure into the Topaz housing.
As far as the digitizer sitting on metal I'm not sure but doesnt sound right.
Yes, I suspect I have to buy a new digitiser or a housing with a digitiser. Please send me the link and let me know how it is.
As for the lack of a seal, it isn't the digitiser sitting on bare metal, it is the LCD. Functionally I think it will be ok, but I have heard of dust getting into the unit between the digitiser and the LCD. Surely if there is no seal, then this would be more likely.

HD2 Repairs

so i had broke the digitizer or my HD2 about 4 months ago and just now repairing it. I have now stumbled upon a problem tho. I would like to know what thickness is the double sided adhesive foam tape that is used to hold the lcd+digitizer to the chasis. Thanks in advance
Same here. I broke my digitaizer, and want buy new one (digitaizer+lcd) on brando.
And when it arrives to me, same question for me. Early, i think that new double sided adhesive foam tape already on the back panel of new LCD....
the lcd+digitizer comes clean with no foam adhesive . i was quite mad lol. i mean i know the thickness should be rather thin but i would like the right measurements for the best results. i tried using regular double sided tape but that wasnt strong enough and the lcd would puff back up due to loss of grip. I really want to get my hd2 back up and running since i bought it on first release international which is not cheap compared to today's pricing on the hd2.
Anyone know at all??? i swear a lot of people are questioning about lcd repairs and stuff so why wont anyone know about the thickness of the double sided foam tape??? im about to just randomly buy some and hope for the best.
its either 1/16 or 1/32 of an inch.
Look in a craft shop that sells card making stuff.
You can get different thickness foam double sided tape.
If you are careful, you can just use a glue like Bostick, place a thin strip on plastic frame, then drop glass onto glue and press it down gently until glass is level with case, clean off any excess glue before re-assembly.
glue is a messy job lol. i would rather just buy the double sided foam tape since its not that much and easy fix.

Replacement gorilla glass?

The digitizers on eBay prob aren't gorilla glass, right? Can you get replacement that is real?
Did you replace it or not? i am interested in how you brake it considering it is gorilla glass. How much force need to brake it?
dropping Gorillia Glass in the wrong angle will break it!
True. Mine got dropped on the upper left edge of the phone(and it was from the height of 1m or less) and it got shaterd. Now I am searching for replacement. The phone and the screen still work but it just looks ugly.

edit* my post doesn't apply for this thread lol but it seems defy is brickproof also.
yes it can broke, it's just scratch resistant, not broke-into-pieces resistant.
Yep, I can confirm it's not shatterproof!
Hi everyone,
I just received my new digitizer from Ecell and it's glass, not plastic, so so far so good.
However, does anyone know how to fit it to the phone ? I'm not sure if it comes with adhesive or not (didn't look at it in detail) and how to remove the old digitizer without damaging the phone ?
thanks,
Arnaud.
If I'm not mistaken someone here in XDA had already open up the Defy. Search and you find it. But you will need to replace the front casing as well once you opened up your Defy..
Or you can follow this site guide Here
Ok everyone, I looked into this a bit deeper.
The digitizer I got from ebay selle Ecell looks genuine. It has the same serial number as the original and everything looks exactly the same. For those looking for a genuine Gorilla Glass replacement digitizer, I think we've found it.
There is no adhesive though and I am still looking for something suitable.
Farsight, you DONT have to replace the front casing once you've opened up the Defy. Or at least I don't see why you should.
Anyway, I'll keep you up to date as soon as my defy is back in action.
Cheers,
Arnaud.

If I'm not mistaken, the idea for changing the front casing is to ensure the phone remains water resistant.
Trying to replace broken gorilla glass
Here is a video of me trying to replace the broken glass on my Defy. The replacement was successful although the final result got dirty from the glue I used.
A better solution would be to replace the whole front housing with speaker, glass and digitizer. Anyone knows where one can by a complete Defy front housing?
I bought mine from no.1-tech on ebay and it looks genuine to me, too. Did yours come in a plastic bag that says "resealable" and has a sort of glue strip to close it?
Btw, globaldirectparts has everything, the digitizer, the adhesive, complete front and back housing etc. but the minimum amount of 5pcs per item is kind of a turn-off...
Yes, mine came in a resealable plastic bag with a glue strip as well.
I ended up buying some two sided tape and I cut strips to fit where the original adhesive was. It all looks very clean but now the proximity sensor doesn't work properly and the screen turns off whenever I make or answer a call. It turns back on when I press on the screen in the top left hand corner. I tried searching for a way to recalibrate the proximity sensor but I haven't found anything that works on the Defy.
If anyone has any idea on how to do this (and I'm pretty sure it's possible), could you please let everyone know?
Thank you
Cheers,
Arnaud.
I found this one.

Don’t know anything about the dealer though
nice info, i dont know if we can change the glass. i thought before if we broke the glass, means we broke the LCD

From the video. Best still to change the whole front casing together with the glass screen. It's very dirty in the end and surely the water resistant would not work anymore.
Did your Defy managed to power up? I see the video look like it's dead??
Sent from my awesome Moto Defy Gingerbread 2.3.3 - XDA Premium
Yes, the phone did power up - battery was empty.
The phone is working ok but, as you mentioned, the glass got very dirty. Using another type of glue and being a bit more exact when fixing the new glass to the front housing might have given better result.
As for the water reistance I'm already convinced that the defy is water resistant but the front speaker is not. Already got two front speakers replaced because of water damage.
I'm looking for a front housing with glass and speaker. I've already tried to replace the speaker om another defy but that was not so easy because the speaker is glued to the front.

Best digitizer separation ( 1 pass) and fast loca glue removal

Hello,
I just realized I have posted before on the Nexus 7 first gen forum, then I came back here to share my experience with my 2013 model.
I got a Nexus 7 2013 tablet with a broken digitizer for free, I started watching info and videos on the net on how to separate that digitizer from the god LCD.
The heat gun solution looks a bit too hard to control. I chose to try to make my own heat plate.
I have made the heating plate based on stuff found around the house, also I borrowed some stuff from work until I will receive the controller I ordered from Ebay.
Basically, I got an aluminum plate cut from a scrap piece, drilled holes to hold those lock down clamps, everything is just made to resemble those professional separation machines.
There are 2 small round heaters underneath, each around 200W, more than needed for this application.
I tried heating the assembly up to 85 deg C and the lcd metal back cover starts to lift up, separating from the lcd glass itself, oops, had to press down on it and lower the temp to around 65 C ,now it sits in place.
I bought 2-3 broken digitizers with screens from a guy that repairs tablets just to practice before I really try to do the digitizer change on my own tablet..
I will put pictures of the removed and cleaned LCD’s, the digitizers were just used to practice the LOCA glue removal, I throw them away after. Too many glass pieces.
Here is the name of the video: Nexus 7 LCD separation from digitizer, fast LOCA removal. Please turn on CC on the video to see more info.
The separation of the lcd is done with guitar wire 0.007”, not sure if smaller diameter it will do better or not.
I had a problem on one practice screen, I cut thru the front polarizing film on the lcd. that’s why I started the separation from the lcd connector side, wire gets better there between the digitizer and the lcd.
One great thing I found is by using silicon grease, it makes the sawing much easier and you only need one pass to separate the lcd. Apply in small quantities beside the lcd before you pass the string.
After separating the lcd, cleaning up the loca glue is also easy, thanks to my other interesting finding I did, by using essential oils.
There are so many out there, like tea tree oil, oregano oil, tried them, they all do a good job.
I finally used the citronella oil because it was only 4$ for 15ml, probably you can do lots of cleaning from one bottle and also repelling the mosquitos around you.
As you can see, apply small drops, spread uniformly with your finger, then wait, after 4-5 hours the glue comes off very easy.
If any excess oil, absorb-it with a paper towel. If it’s too much oil, not good also.
The good thing about oil is that it will have much less ( more like zero) chances to go inside the LCD panel and make spots, like the alcohol can do.
Finished the cleaning with some 99% isopropyl alcohol ( from the pharmacy).
I’m sure after this, some people will try to sell “ miracle” loca glue remover. Hope this post will remain here to give some great info to those searching.
This is valid for any kind of lcd loca glue cleaning, is it a phone or tablet, it will work.
I think I will try to reapply the uv loca glue to the new digitizer, I will wait for the ordered glue to come.
With all the things I purchased maybe is not economical for one tablet, but the experience I got is priceless, I’m happy to share with others.
Thanks for the tip!
How did you assemble new digitizer with the LCD back together? Did you use LOCA glue? If yes, where did you get that?
Hellou,
Thanks for the tips.
Do you know where to find aluminium bar at size 7-10" diagonal in RO?
Thanks
Appreciated your tips re grease and oil. I've done this several times, so I know it can be done with some patience. The big question is, where do you get a separate digitizer that works. I've tried at least 5 that partially worked (dead bands, mostly), but found none that totally did. If you have a source, it'd help greatly. Thanks again.

Permanently bent

Hello there,
just bought a used X Style in good condition. However the phone is slightly bent, distorted possibly from heat. So when you put it face down on an even surface as on a table, it actually rocks... One of the things I cannot do now is to actually put a glass protector on its screen as it will not stick.
Anyone with a similar experience ? Is there anyway to rectify the problem apart from buying a new front housing? I can easily open it up and disassemble it but would it offer anything at all?
Thanks for your ideas

Is the back of the phone slightly curved from bottom to top, thicker in the middle? This is not bent, this is design.
Are the edges of the screen slightly higher than the rest of the screen? This is normal, it's a huge piss off, but it's normal. Research glass screen protectors moto x pure and you'll find that there are very few which stick to the moto x, let alone stick well. My guess is the phone is not actually bent, the back is curved as it should be and the screen is made slightly different, and not many glass screen protectors work.
Edit : face down it rocks...that's odd I've not experienced that, maybe it is bent and I don't know what to do about that
Thanks for your reply. But yes the phone is bent, and I am not sure which structural part is bent and which part of the phone actually follow suit. If I could identify the part that is bent, I could take it apart, replace the bent part (middle frame?) and then it would be perfect. What is also really funny, is that the screen is not broken nor split, as it seems to be elastic enough to bent without breaking...

No worries. I have no idea what part could be bent, but it's possible that there's a lot of stress on the glass and it could break at a later point in time. You could try taking it apart and see if you can identify what is bent, had the phone been taken apart or had the screen been repaired before you got it?
I ask because I had to repair my screen, did it myself, but had to glue the frame to the LCD. In doing so I used crazy glue, and then 3 months down the road the bottom quarter of my screen stopped responding to touch due to the crazy glue pushing up on parts of the screen and wrecking something inside.
