JUST picked up my Vibrant.... - Vibrant General

I'm very torn. I have been using a myTouch for the past year and loved it. The guys in the G1 forum have been awesome and my phone was modded about as extreme as possible.
But now I have this beauty. Its so pretty and runs so smooth out of the box. Do I root right away or enjoy the bloatware for a bit?
Anything I should check out right away?

do whatever you want to. can't go wrong either way. (rooting is extremely easy)

There is an awesome sticky at the top of this forum. I suggest you start there

root root! :d

Just picked mine up today. Had a mytouch 3G rooted the day I got it. Did the same with my new beast! Played with it stock for a few hours and then rooted!

I too just picked up a Vibrant today. Coming from a Sprint HTC Hero. Haven't rooted yet. Will be in the next couple of days. Loving the phone so far.

good to see folks switching over

And I think I already borked it. Did I do something bad if when installing clockwork, I chose to partition?
After the boot logo, I just get a black screen. I even tried Odin and that didn't work???

You're not supposed to partition with clockwork. When u do that ur partitioning, ur partitioning internal and not SD card. There's a thread about it for a brick. Find it.

Dude seriously unroot it.
please read up before you flash anything or do anything else. we don't want another "help i'm bricked!!wtf android suxx!!" thread
I'm taking bets now on how long until he posts in "android development" with the title "I bricked my phone".
I will also take bets on whether or not said phone is actually bricked.
Bricked sounds like a funny word to me...
Actually I've already tried about 4 different ROMs and know how to do it properly so yall can take that and shove it up yalls asses! I didn't join this forum to get hated on, and I sure as Hell don't enjoy it. So, speculate before hate. Thanks!

Yeah I don't know why people have to be that way. Everybody is a newbie at some time. Try Cyanogen nightlies number 2 its gingerbread and definitely my favorite as of right now.

Did you figure out why it takes up so much space? Downloading Roms take space and so do back ups. Just remember to clear out your clockwordmod download folder every once in awhile.

Looks nice, thanks for the heads up.
The gentleman in the video had actually posted up a thread about it on the forum about a week ago and for some reason the admin's shut it down pretty quickly......
Does anybody know where to get the zip file for this port?

So, not sure what I did wrong, but when I try to instal OMHC, it won't allow me to. Running Gingerbread based Recovery, ClockworkMod. Is this something that can be worked around, or no?
Is it CWM 3.0?? I know a bunch of things have issues with that recovery.

Agreed. He's awesome. No ones perfect. I personally don't care about all of the drama, I just care about how the ROMs.

And back to trying toto help the Guy who made this thread. Are you using version 3.0 recovery?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
For what it is worth, I can state that this will install using recovery 2.5.0.5, as I just got done doing so.
Yep, i've reverted back as far as ROM manager allows and so far so good with backing up any ROM and flashing any ROM
As far as this Honeycomb port goes, I wish I had this on my Gtab. Obviously needs some work, but wow this is a 10 on the cool factor. Who cares who did it or not, these Dev's deserve mad respect for their time and hard work. I actually approached the dev for a port on the Gtab and he says he's been trying, but still no luck. As an owner and avid Gtab forumster, I can say that many people on the Gtab forums would consider this guy a god if he were successful on porting this over.
Everybody chill out about the drama and give props where it's due. This is awesome news and fantastic work.
Yes, it is. Is there another recovery I could use?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yea go into rom manager and at the bottom it has older recoveries use a 2. whatever one.
flashed for a little but forgot to install gapps. pretty useless right now most stuff doesnt work. along with the bad lag its also pretty hard to navigate since its made for a tablet. things are really small and the mouse has to be moved with the toggle which is a pain in the ass among many other things. might go back to it and try gapps just for ****s and gigs. otherwise useless. will be cool when the bionic comes out and a port comes to that.

Pffft... Never thought rooting a vibrant would be that hard

but hey I did it and everything works. Its so much harder than rooting a G Tab

I guess you have never rooted a G1 or MyTouch. Some you even need to make what is call a Goldcard just to root. The Vibrant is pathetically simple.

You think the vibrant is hard to root?
Try installing a Nand Android on a HTC HD2 for the very first time. It literally took me an hour and a half to research and install Android.
The vibrant is the only phone that I can root and install a custom rom without connecting it to a PC.
Yeah it was super easy... too bad all phones can't have Odin .

You didn't just use the Vibrant toolbox? The Vibrant was cake. Way easier than trying to root the new EVO's.. At least last I checked they still didn't have an easy option to do that

partitioning it going back to rc28 putting weird commands in the terminal it was demonic to root a g1 in the beginning.

Manually puttig in codes for partitioning the SD card was a pain too, when the recovery didnt do its job. HD2 was easy too lol, before the VIbrant i had a HD2 and Nand was easy
That's because you don't even have to root the gtab. Put clockwork and the rom on the sd, vol+ and power and boom! Instant gratification.
Check usb debugging-dl z4root app from 4shared.com-root
Takes less than 2 minutes.

Thank you

Hey everyone. I just wanted to say a HUGE THANKS to all of you. I made the switch from a jailbroken iPhone to an Atrix 4G on ATT and because of the knowledge base of the users, an organized forum and an excellent search function, I was able to unlock my bootloader, root my phone and install Gingerblur all wiithin an hour. KUDOS!
Welcome! The fun is only starting.

Before the bootloader was unlockable, there were the people unhappy with their phones and made threads in a toddler temper tantrum announcing they were getting a different phone and why. It always made me chuckle, that they think anyone cares. Don't see much of those threads anymore.
I have 3 Atrix. I knew that it was a matter of time until it showed its real potential. Now it finally is. it has has a bad rap but it should be more appreciated now.

Gingerbread, CHERRY 3.14 and check out my screenshots here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16156825#post16156825
I'd like to say thanks too. I've rooted, unlocked the bootloader, manually installed GB and the radio update and installed CWM recovery. And everything just worked. The roms and programs worked great, and any lingering issues I had were resolved by a quick search of the forums. You guys have made the process of updating my phone a breeze. Thanks so much!
Granted the Iphone stuff was super easy.... just wait for an update, then wait for someone to develop a jailbreak for it...I just jailbroke my sons friends ipod by going to jailbreakme.com and that was it. Now as far as themes and overall customization, this phone is badarse.

First things to do with new zoom.

Hello guys and gals. I'm excited to get my zoom in the mail tomorrow from verizon. So I'm reading up on these forums to understand where everyone is at. I'm asking if any one would would he willing to give a quick check list of first things I should do when I get it. Then I can do some research based on your feed back and get it all set up. Thanks.

Download flash player from the market , then set your browser to on demand in the settings. Get feedly for your google reader or pulse, but I prefer feedly as it's much snapier. Download plume for tablet and friend caster for tablets.

Do the catch recovery before reboot method which is really simple and easy. You get root and recovery at the same time.

Play with your xoom for a while then this. I would install the tiamat rom but I don't want to wipe my xoom.
I've decided to skip roms and tiamat or whatever. Looking at threads some are WiFi version only. Then some are different firmware version. I just want stock Verizon with whatever current version its at instructions. It's just to big of a mess for me to spend time digging through literally hundreds of posts researching on what should be closed threads restarted with fresh instructions. Not 4 month old threads. I'll just root adb, use setcpu, and wait for 3.2 uupdate. Then ill join in since ill know where other people are starting from.
It really is a mess. With my Droid x it was simple. A few ways to gain root and all the Roms nicely laid out ripe for the picking. Instruction clearly labled if you have firmware xxx do this, xxy do this. No wonder people are afraid to root. I am, now.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Ok I can't quit that easy. Looked at xoomforums. I think my whole problem was forum layout. Viewing this forum on their premium app jumbled everything together. Seeing everything laid out rom, kernels, ect, much easier. I'll go with launchpad 1.3 then try tiamat. At least I don't feel lost. As long I'm not browsing through their app.
