instant messenger in contacts - Vibrant General

Has anyone figured out what the instant messenger field under contacts is used for. I can edit any one of my contacts and add instant messaging such as aim or msn but when you click on them they dont trigger anything. the only thing that works is obviously gtalk. I thought maybe the new trillian would maybe trigger this but it doesnt.

There is no way of stopping it from doing this i'm afraid... It's part of the software. It's been designed to be part of the system, managing contacts, and emails.

Live Messenger and synchronizing contacts

I've tried searching for this, but the threads are quite long...
Does Live Messenger copy all my messenger contacts into my Outlook contacts?
With all the versions I've downloaded and tried... Yes. As long as it keeps doing this, it's useless to me.
But some people say they use Messenger without syncing contacts, which as far as I can see, is impossible. So I don't get it.
CORRECTION: you can turn off the sync in options, but messenger syncs any way.
b.t.w:
I noticed it wont SYNC both ways...
You cant use MSN Messenger without syncing the contacts. this is a very huge pain in the a$$. i was trying agile mesenger but they since starting charging for it and the latest build doesnt work very well with the TyTN. when you press enter it starts a voice message instead of sending he message.

Yes, I've also heard this, but cannot find a solution to what they're doing. Syncing contacts is just not an option for me.
Well... it was worth a try.
is there any way to remove some of the functionality and limit to only messenger for example? the search and mail are irrelevant to me.

messenger deleting contacts by itself

If i login on msn messenger on my phone it is deciding to delete some of my contacts... (so they come off my msn on the pc too)
I have no idea why it is doing this as i copied my msn contacts to the relevant contacts in my phone book and selected the option in messenger to combine contacts with messenger...
Its really starting to hack me off as I'm having to re-add contacts all the time
Nice to hear
Actually... same here... wtf

Saving contacts from all resources to Google account.

On my Nexus One, I sync my Google and Facebook contacts. It works this way whenever I'm on this phone. However, I may have a problem with Facebook, my sim, or my phone one day (just making very sure )
How do I save all my Facebook contacts, sim contacts, and phone contacts to my Google account?
I was just wondering the same thing! I have all of these new phone numbers pulled from Facebook, but right now I can only see them in my N1 Contacts; I'd like to be able to edit them on my desktop via the Gmail "Contacts".

Facebook contacts

How do I get rid of my Facebook contacts from my phonebook? I've searched but I haven't really found anything. I;ve also tried playing with settings to no avail. Please help! It's driving me nuts.
Do you want to hide them or just get rid of them totally? To Hide them go to the people app and click menu then view then deselect facebook. if you want to get rid of them altogether then backup the ones you want, Gmail contacts will back up automatically if you have that enabled, then from home screen go to menu, steeings, applications, manage applications then hit clear storage. presto no more contacts. Then restore the ones you backed up. Hope this helps.
Thanks ifly, I was able to delete all my contacts and re-sync.
Is there a way to sync the contacts on my phone with Facebook so that I can get contact pictures?
tonight different facebook pictures were with the wrong contacts
Im not to sure how to get the face book pictures. I know a round about way, First set up a "youmail account" import the contact you want into youmail. Then sync youmail with facebook, thats under social networks on the main youmail page, search for it and you can find it pretty easy. then youmail will update all your contacts with pictures (if they match facebook contacts of course) then export the youmail contacts to gmail, then sync and presto pictures. Of course this is the long drawn out way .... i dont know about an easier way as i don't use a facebook app on my evo. good luck.
Yea, that sounds like more trouble than it should be. Does anyone know an easier way?
So does anyone know how to do this through the phone? Is there an app or widget that'll do it?
sign into HTC facebook, then go log into your gmail account on the phone, let it sync contacts, then select which contact you want, and once in there is a little link option on the contact info, click it and link that contact to a person on your facebook. TADA done. I have all my contacts (that have facebook) done this way. Takes maybe 5 minutes for 100 contacts.
HTC Facebook the app or through where do I sign-in? As of now, I am not logged in to Facebook through the app or through accounts & sync.
I am logged in to the gmail app for the record.
Still nothing. Anyone else have any ideas?
