Hulu - Droid Incredible General

I have hulu in my sky raider 2.5.2 rom but it wont work. Do i have to do something special? The app opens but when i click a video i just the the lego saying i dont have flash or i though thats what it means. How do i fix this?

Read the OP.
You have to go into your sd card and look for the skyraider folder. Enclosed is the install flash file you need.
Sent from my HTC Incredible «•»Rooted/S-off/Skyraider 2.5.2 Vanilla«•» http://www.unrevoked.com/forever

What is a OP lol? I have searched the fourms for another HULU app thread but cant find any. Since it sounds like there is a thread out there and i cant seem to find it does anyone have a link? I found the file inside the skyraider folder but I cant open it i cant flash it, what am I suppose to do with it? And if this is something that needs pushed with someone please for the love of god direct me to a thread that will explain and teach me how to do that. I feel silly everytime I have to ask how to do it, I use a mac and everything i find talks about a PC. I have just had to copy exact line commands when i end up wanting to push items.

You need to install the modified adobe flash apk to watch hulu in the app.

I have SDK but i cant seem to get anyone to point me in the direction of a thread that teaches you the commands to push things like apk's

If you want to remove the stock flash, flash this from recovery
http://www.mediafire.com/?evi93q9t1fgya3z
Then install the hacked flash .apk
Thanks to scuccia for providing the .zip a while back.

Thank you for the advice BUT I still dont understand installing a .apk. I need to be directed to a thread that will explain this for a Mac user I have SDK i just dont understand the command lines. Help please?

Huh? You don't need to use your mac...
Run the zip I gave you, that gets rid of the original flash. Reboot. Then just run the hacked flash via astro or whatever file manager you use.

O kick ass thanks man!

that did not work for me at first....then I followed the below instruction and everything worked
Here is a temporary resolution for the Hulu problem.
1. Open your stock browser and let your home page load.
2. Erase everything in the address bar and type "about:debug" and press return (note: nothing will appear to have happened; that's good.)
3. Press Menu and select Settings.
4. Scroll all the way to near the bottom and select UAString and change it to Desktop.
5. Press Back to exit Settings.
6. Clear the address bar and type this address into it: "http://www.hulu.com/widget/player/videos" and press Enter
7. You may have to adjust the zoom to get it larger.
8. This is just like the Hulu app, but you can change your orientation to landscape by tilting your phone. Then pinch and zoom to get the video to fill the screen, but do not tap and hold the video to make it full screen.

[Q] Swype with voice icon

Has anyone ported or got a version working on the vibrant. I have seen it on the droid x and on one of the newer HTC's
If you can get me the swype apk from one of those devices i can bring it over no problem at all i just havnt found a system dump for either but to be fair i havnt really been looking.
I have been looking but posting the file has been banned. I was hoping it was possibly included in the new froyo build or perhaps some of the newer European builds. I might be able to get a copy off a droid x or evo 4g if you can pull it with titanium backup, would I be able to just straight load it up with apploader?
Thanks for all your help I am just learning so will of course have lots of questions

There's another thread about this, but it had a non-obvious title. I posted some stuff in there, but I'll repost here as people are more likely to find it.
Get the Swype.apk from the dump, no I can't post it here for you. The Swype company has asserted their copyright and XDA won't violate it.
Open a text field and change keyboards so Swype isn't active.
adb pull /system/app/Swype.apk Swype.backup
Don't install it, just copy it over the one on your phone. I used this:
adb push Swype.apk /system/app/
Root explorer, SUFBS, etc. can do it. Yes, you need root. Just do it, it's drop dead simple.
Now, switch back to Swype keyboard using the long-press on a text field. You have a voice button. The down side I found, was that the popup window with word choices is yellow with white text. Talk about hard to read. I'll attach a MetaMorph that fixes that.
Just download my Morph, then go to the Market and download the MetaMorph application. Launch Metamorph and let it do its checks. You should have a mostly empty screen with 2 buttons at the bottom. Select "Unzip/Extract new theme". Now use the file browser to find the file you downloaded. It's probably in /sdcard/download if you downloaded in the browser. Select the ZIP and it will tell you about the morph. Just hit "apply all" at the bottom and let it do it's thing. Now your Swype popup will look stock with the black background.
Weird, I'm running Vibrant6 and the epic swype does not work as outlined here. The kb opens, but the 2 lower left and 2 lower right buttons are blank. The kb doesn't respond to input either, showing the blue error outline around the kb.
Actually, when I reverted back to the stock swype, I had the same missing buttons and lack of functionality. I then installed the epic swype (by executing the apk), uninstalled it, and the old Swype started working again.

Add another to this list. Exactly the same. It wouldn't let me push the file back
Code:
C:\Users\TJHart85\Desktop\Vib_Phone\_REPLACEMENT_FILES>adb push Swype.apk /system/app/
failed to copy 'Swype.apk' to '/system/app//Swype.apk': Permission denied
C:\Users\TJHart85\Desktop\Vib_Phone\_REPLACEMENT_FILES>adb push Swype.apk /system/app
failed to copy 'Swype.apk' to '/system/app/Swype.apk': Permission denied
I then used Root Explorer to copy the new APK to /system/app/
I then got the same keyboard as others have that doesn't accept any input.
Putting the original file back didn't make it work again either, so I'm doing a nandroid restore back to a few hours ago (luckily I replaced a few system files earlier and had decided to make a nandroid just in case).
The only non-stock part of my phone is that I have SIM-unlocked it & applied the lagfix ...lagfix makes it take forever to restore too :-(
Restarting did not make a difference.

Something like "why can't we do this"... Not sure why they used that.
Note that I am using the EVO swype, NOT the Epic one. And you have to REPLACE the existing Swype. DO NOT USE THE PACKAGE INSTALLER. You have to place it with adb or something like root explorer should work. It must OVERWRITE the existing one. Make a backup of your Swype so you can get back to it. There should be no reason to have to restore a Nandroid with this mod.
If adb push gives you a permission denied, you have the system mounted read-only or don't have root. Try the JAC kernel, that's what I'm using, and it worked fine. I don't know or care if it works with the stock kernel, the JAC is that much better.
Can you tell me which version of the EVO swype has the speech to text feature? I have a 1.56 apk, but i believe there are more recent versions.
I am using 1.57.32.7688 from evo and it works perfectly
Wow... I have just been through the whole process of adding this to my phone and I must say I have learned a lot! So I figured i'd share for anyone who might benefit:
The main reason it was so hard for me is because I am running eugene373's vibrant7 rom and in that rom swype is removed by default. This allows you to just install the swype file (swype-evo-tts.apk) using package installer without any troubles. *BUT* It makes the Swype_No_Yellow.zip not work. This is because when swype is installed stock it's in the system/app folder but when it's just installed as a regular app it's in a different folder(data/app).
Sooo I went and taught myself how to edit .apk files! Yay!
This thread was AMAZINGLY helpfull: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007
So basically I followed the steps in that thread except I moved the files in Swype_No_Yellow.zip to the corresponding folder in swype-evo-tts.apk using 7-zip. Then I used the auto-signing tool and tada! I have swype tweaked perfectly for me!
[rant] It sure would be nice if I could just post up the file I created and save y'all the trouble. But I understand the forum rules. I just think everyone coming to this forum has vibrant and has payed for swype! We sure as heck can tweak it as we please, but why can't we upload those tweaks and share amongst ourselves?! The real question is why didn't swype just include a text to speech button on the vibrant?!?! [/rant] Oh wellz
Good luck!
Yes, the morph looks for it in /system/app as that's where I told people to install it.
You could have just modified the morph xml file to point to /data/app, but understanding apk files is very useful if you want to play with the phone at this level.
tt, I've been looking with no luck for the evo swype. Got a link?

I don't, sorry. I downloaded it from an XDA thread before the mods caught it. I don't think we are even supposed to link from here. Irritating.
I'd host it myself, but I don't feel like joining Cyanogen in the C&D club.
This didn't work for me I tried to use Vibrant1.zip version of swype to revert back with root explorer and that didn't work so I had to do a nandroid restore, I wouldn't try this you would think it would just work but guess not.

Swype Problem: HD2 with Android

The main installation for swype went perfectly fine and it shows it being installed. I can go into language and keyboard settings and its there. The problem is when I go to Keyboard Types: Swype doesnt show up as an option to use. Ive done the tutorial and it works fine. I just cant find a way to enable it to use for text messaging as its not showing up as an input option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
copy the apk in a folder on your pc and extract it
go inside the folder /lib/armeabi/ and you find this file
libSwypeCore.so
copy this file on your leo sd card
boot up android and with rootexplorer cut/paste the library file inside the folder /system/lib
reboot
after this, swype should be in your inputmethod choices
If the copy of this file is not allowed (and the system show up a message like "read only filesystem" and such things), I think you have to do this operation with a terminal with root permission (inside android, on your pc with adb shell, on a linux pc, and so on)
Otherwise, the way that can't fail is:
on your pc (a linux pc would be better) mount the system file in a folder, do the cut/paste operation, umount the system file, reboot android
Hope this help (and hope you understood what I mean ... sorry for my english)
Regards
kind of crazy way to do it (previous post)
The correct way would be that once you install swype, you have to enable it, before you can select it as an input option.
Once installed, go to settings, then language and keyboard, and simply put a check mark in the swype box.
Then go to something like messaging, long press the text input box, and then select input settings. you should then see swype as an option.
Happy swyping.
if it works, throw some thanks my way.

Thats the problem though. Once installed, I enabled it. Everything seems golden at this point right? Tutorial screen pops up, blah, blah, blah. Go into messaging, text input options and theres all the input options displayed
*Qwerty
*Phone keypad
*Compact Qwerty
But Swype doesnt show up at all as an option. The radio button is still selected with Qwerty. I followed the previous posters solution though and it now works. Still doesnt show up in the Keyboard Types which is odd but at least its working.
What build are u using?
if ur using htc sense u have to adb push the file into ur system/apps folder

Anyone had any luck getting the video player to actually work, i modified the .so file myself so i know i did it correctly at least as far as the patch that worked on my phone is concerned but on the acer i just got i can't get it to load up a video, just sits there blank
EDIT: nevermind i forgot to reset user agents and flash permissions on the browser, i guess i'm too tired
where do you place the so file??? Can you help me get this working?

Make sure you have installed flash 10.3 first.
Works great.
Ok I still can not get this to work.
I have Flash 10.3
I downloaded the zip file in the link and moved the .so file into the data/data/adobe..... location and replaced the file that was in there.
I rebooted. I have Dolphin HD set to desktop. I have cleared all the cache and cookies. I have it set to always enable plug-ins as suggested deep in those threads.
I have tried everything but yet, neither the apk hulu listed, or the website will play any hulu videos. I can see the page, the ads load fine. SpikeTV loads it's videos, just not Hulu.
I keep getting the "video not available on your platform" after the loading circle.
Help????
Edit: The stock browser does not work either.
I've noticed that every time I reboot that file gets reverted and I have to copy it back over.
Try killing your browser with a task manager and reopening it after copying, instead of rebooting.

That did it! Thanks!
It's working in Dolphin HD.
So to recap the steps for others.
Get Flash 10.3
Go to link mentioned above,
Download the .so Zip file.
Move the .so file to the data/data/adobe..lib folder
replace the file with the downloaded.
Make sure you are set to Desktop and not Mobile.
Also, not sure if it is needed, but I set the settings to Always Enable Plug-Ins.
Hulu works!

Fix for Flash 10.3 on CM7

To get Flash 10.3 working on the stock browser you need to do two things:
1) force stop the browser process
2) Remove all permissions for /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data
*Fix also works for Dolphin. Just change com.android.browser to mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser
Changing the permissions restricts the flash plugin or the stock browser or the webkit or I dunno what from reading config.data. This file is screwing with video playback of anything over 240p.
What's weird is that the config.data generated for 10.2 and 10.3 appears to be identical, except for the ProductVer string. Since the file contains settings for h264 high, baseline and main profiles, there's probably some change in 10.3 to the way it uses this information.
Either way, this is a bandaid for those that don't wish to use Opera until the heart of the issue is found/addressed.
how do you remove permissions? i saw the ability to do this was added in a while ago in the nighthlies, but I've never had to do it....

You'll need to use a file manager that supports it. I use File Expert while others prefer Root Explorer.
Btw, this is not the same as application permission control which is what you are thinking of.

using terminal emulator i can just do a cd data/data/com.android.browser and it shows the listing. but if i go to the file manager it doesnt show it. Weird.
So i was able to edit the permissions. My superuser app wasnt properly giving superuser permission to the file explorer, which is weird because during that time it worked for terminal emulator just fine...
I removed all permissions for it, but flash still isnt working.
nvm. Fixed. Left the boxes on the far right checked, for 'Exe', and unchecked all other read and write permissions boxes. Working so far.
Nice find! Works perfectly...
Was just about to do this but looks like the newest nightly will incorporate this fix.
Edit: nevermind, something different.

How exactly do you remove the permissions and how do you change the com.android.browser to the mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser?
Sorry for the noob questions.
Having issue with fix
Hello. I've been trying to perform the fix but I'm running into an issue. I have CM 7.0.3 on a gTablet running Flash 10.3.185.23. I am using File Expert and it has been given access by super user.
The issue is that I can browse to /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/ but I do not see the config.data file in that folder. I have tried looking in the Dolphin Browser folder also but it's no there. I have even tried doing a search in the whole com.android.browser folder but it's still not finding it. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Thank you.
So I finally figured it all out and thought I would share.
I installed the "updated" version of flash 10.3 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=618977&d=1307513130
Then I followed the same instructions as in this video to enable HULU, but dropbox is not necessary if you dont want it.
http://youtu.be/1JbZnSKCfY0
I was having trouble with the directory given in the original post because I had already set up Dolphin as my default browser, so the app_plugins...extension I was looking for was in there not in com.android.browser.
So in file expert, first make sure you have given super user permissions, then hit the back arrow at the bottom menu bar "2 times", press data, press data again, scroll down to the bottom to mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser, there should be 2 files with the same name, dont choose the one with only a lib folder, it should have many folders, scroll to top and find app_plugins and press, press com.adobe.flashplayer, press .macromedia, press Flash_Player, at the bottom you should see config.data, long press the file, "operations menu opens" press file operations, then press permissions, uncheck ALL boxes.
Then go back into Dolphin Browser and give it a shot. I have been able to watch all episodes I tried on HULU and all videos on youtube in the browser, when in you tube and selecting videos to watch, make sure you choose the Dolphin choice and not m.youtube or browser, and dont switch back and forth between android and desktop mode, if you do you will revert the custom agent file back to a recognized mobile platform even if you choose desktop mode again, it needs to stay at the custom. I dont use any other browsers so I dont know if it will work for others, but I imagine the same file extensions will be associated with any browser you have set as your default and you should be able to do all the same steps. I'm currently running cm7.0.3 stable, hope this helps anybody that needs it.
it works !
in terminal just two command you need:
Code:
su
chmod 000 /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data

Not in terminal no, but the other method yes.
Works perfect. No complains at all.

[Solved] TWRP use problem

Hi,
I am pretty new at this. I have rooted my Fire and installed TWRP. Now I would like to install CM7. I copied the folders 'Update-wipeall' and 'gaps-gb-20110828-signed' to my Kindle as in the video but when I get to 'install' in TWRP I don't seem to be able to select either file. When I touch the folder, it opens displaying the files inside, and nothing is displayed in the selection area like in the video. What am I doing wrong? Everything else including backup seems to work fine so I know it's me at fault.
Any help appreciated.

Tap on the zip you want to install and TWRP will display the selected filename in the lower left corner of the screen.
I have tried this but it doesn't work for me. Nothing is displayed.

you copied the extracted folders ?
you have to copy the zip files !
I downloaded them on my Mac, maybe it unzips as it does it. Then I have been copying the folder to my windows machine. I will try downloading directly to my XP laptop.
Thanks,

Ok, I downloaded the file zip file to my windows machine, copied it to my KF and installed CM7 which works very well however, now when I connect the KF to my computer, it does not go into the 'connection mode' but stays in CM7. Have I done something wrong?

Same happens to me - CM7 doesn't switch to USB mode automatically (and I haven't found any settings where you can change this behaviour).
You need to expand the status bar, click on the "USB/select to copy files to computer" entry and turn on usb storage.
Thanks, I thought it was just me messing up as usual.......
Dont forget about ADB folks... those three letters can pull and push pretty hefty images to and fro your device.
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard/*
What is the benefit of using ADB rather than just moving files around using windows? I know there must be one but I don't know enough about it yet to judge.
I use adb when I don't have time to troubleshoot other things, or as androidcues said, very large images. Also, your problem with the original zips is that you needed to disable "Open Safe Files After Downloading" in Safari
good that it's working now !
with adb you can do a lot more as copy to sdcard
you can copy to system, install apps, edit permissons, change bootmode ...
use the search function if you want to know more
please mark the subject of the topic (edit first post) to [Solved]
Thanks to everyone. I feel like I am beginning to start to understand this stuff........kinda!
