Avatar movie included with Vibrant - Vibrant General

Apologies if this has previously been covered at length... My Vibrant came with Avatar pre-installed. Can anyone tell me how to view this file on my laptop or television?

Just drag it off the 2gb external sd card onto your computer.

I did that and I got a .dcf file which I can't figure out how to play.

Buy a tv out cable that goes from a 3.5mm jack to RCA
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

The file is DRM protected and will only play on that device...
Also if you connect the phone to the tv via the cable, when you try to play it, it will display that this media is not supported in TV out mode... easier to visit the redbox for $1 and get the movie to watch on your TV.

ahhh. yes, that would be one good way. Then what? just switch the TV to "video" and see whatever's displaying on the screen of my phone?

In that case it's a DigitalRightsManagement Content Format file, getting it to play on your computer is going to be a pain in the ass if you figure out if not impossible. You're better off going with bstromberg's solution or torrenting it as you already legally own it, having a copy of it for backup purposes isn't considered stealing.

boo, so there's no real workaround or hack... it's true though, movies are cheap. I just got excited after watching the first 8 minutes of the movie on my phone.

Replicate TV Out on HTC Touch HD - with a PS3

Here is how to replicate 'TV out' with a PS3:
Connect your HD to the PS3 with a USB cable. Choose 'Disk Drive' mode if your HD asks.
On the PS3 XMB, go to the Videos icon and highlight the USB Mass Storage icon. Press 'Triangle' on your PS3 contoller and choose 'Display all'. Now navigate to where your videos are stored on your SD card and play videos direct to your TV from your SD card.
You can also view photos or play music from your SD on your TV but you have to be on the relevant tab on your PS3 to see audio or photo files.
Finally you can copy files from your SD card direct to your PS3 hard drive by pressing 'Triangle' when highlighting a file.
thats not a TV out dude.
TV out would be, if you see the regular screen, like Today Screen on yoour TV!
what you do, is just using the HD as disk drive.
nothing speacial bout that.
every Win MObile Device is able to do that
I was so happy when I saw the title of this thread
Ok I will modify subject title. However I thought the main reason people wanted TV out was to play their media files on a big TV. Why would you just want to display your home page or menus etc? So in a way the PS3 replicates what TV out would do. The same purpose.
The problem is you are hardly going to carry around your PS3 with you just in case you need to view something on the HD.
Nice Find
I never knew about this - will come in v handy - cheers.
id assume this works on 360s to they play divx wmvs and mp3s and such from a usb drive in fat32 so cant see it being any different
works on tv's as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480100

Of course not.
This is only of use to those that own a PS3. For some newbies, this may be new info to them.

(tmo) Movie Digital copies

ok so we all know we can have digital copies of movies play in our portable devices so i decided to test some movies on my tab. Two movies in question were Star Trek and Sherock Holmes. I went through the entire process of copying the movies to my pc using itunes (one i could have used media player but didnt work), then transfer the movies to my tab. i tries opening using stock video player and nothing and i even downloaded different video players that i though would support the video format and nothing. what gives? how can we watch DIGITAL COPIES of movies on our tab? AND NO I DO NOT FEEL LIKE RIPPING A DVD OR BLUE RAY (DONT HAVE BD PLAYER ON LAPTOP) JUST IN CASE ANYONE DECIDES TO SUGGEST THAT. i just want to be able to view digital copies.........
Can't you remove DRM using some windows xp/vista/7 program?
Just went through this yesterday. It's a DRM issue. If it's like the Toy Story 3 Digital Copy I got with the 4 disc set it's tied to iTunes. Only iTunes or other Apple products will play it. Now, there should be a way to rip the DRM or convert it, I just didn't invest that much time into figuring out how to do so. All I did was rip and re-encode the DVD version.

if ripping and re-encoding DVD is the only way then i have no choice, but it sure is a pain.....
EDIT: what program would you suggest i use to format DVD's to play on the TAB? And what is the best file format to use (MP4, AVI)? want to get the best video/audio quality...
I've used this in the past to remove DRM from iTunes music tracks: http://audials.com/en/tunebite/index.html
It seems it is now able to remove DRM from movies too! So, if you LEGALLY purchased the movie via iTunes you can us this to get it to play on the Tab.

Copy and paste the link. Not sure what's up with that...
To rip DVDs I always use Handbrake on the "normal" setting. Works perfectly.

Yeah, have to agree that Audials Tunebite 's pretty good solution.
There's a new version out that can easily remove drm protection from itunes protected movies and videos plus I saw it can also be used to rip dvds and convert dvd movies to whatever format works for pc or whatever devices u need.

How to display movie streaming on TV via HDMI cable

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to display movie streaming on TV via HDMI cable. I tried with Multimedia dock but it seems limited to display photo and video only from Atrix. I haven't tried music yet.
Thanks!
It may be makeshift, but if you do the webtop mod you can just expand the window of the emulated phone. Not sure how well it works tho
Stretching the mirror app in webtop mode works, sorta. The resolution and framerate suffer badly since it's not a true mirror, the phone's display is being rendered within the webtop session. Lotta extra overhead involved with that.
There's some HDMI mirroring threads in the dev section, but last I read it was only portrait mode, which isn't so hot for video playback.

i just watched Rio last night on my TV using the HDMI included. no need to aple webtop hack or anything as it launches the entertainment center. I got options for Movies Music and Video.
at first it said unplayable then i went back to the menu and choose it again and it worked. unless im getting your question wrong it should play right.
I can also say the same for my phone - the media hub thing pops up when I plug my phone into any HDMI device (TV, monitor) and I select movie or photo or music. it was like that even before I hacked my phone, its suppose to work that way.
Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Oh, i might have misunderstood him. I thought he was trying to stream content from his atrix web browser onto the tv.
Thank you for replies folks. What I am trying to do is to display content from a movie streamer app or web browser on tv via HDMI.
I wanted to play streaming audio via HDMI. I applied the HDMI mirroring hack, but unfortunately it only seems to mirror the video, not the audio. :-(

Anyone managed to transfer .avi files?

So a large portion of my *ahem* video collection is in avi format. I can't transfer it across. Anyone worked out how to do it yet?

downloaded avi movies straight to the device without issue.
Yeah, avi shouldn't be an issue, I play them on my nexus easily, regardless of if they're on a hard-drive or on the device.
Real question: why the **** would you even bother putting the *ahem* part in there? You think the N7's got a content filter on it?

I do not have an issue transferring my avi films. I use MX Player to watch them.
Try transferring just one and see what happens.

That's weird. My *ahem* videos transferred fine. They may be too big for the device, though if they're that big apiece, you should keep them on a high-speed flash drive anyway.
I'd try converting one file and seeing if it goes in a diff format, then you can convert them all if need be. There are several converters out there that are quality and free. I'm using QMC because it allows for custom resizing to protect the aspect ratio during conversion, but there are tons out there.
-Ara
Transferring avi files has worked fine for me. Windows says they may not be compatible but gives a "transfer anyway" option, and MX Player plays them.
Are you using the proper cable? Have you tried another port on your machine?
Turns out I can transfer them. I think something may be going on with my ROM/Kernel. Trying to transfer file seemed to work right up until the point the screen turned of. I think it has something to do with the power saving when the screen turns off. For some reason this only happens with .avi files. I can transfer a mkv or mp4 with no problem even if the screen turns off.
So instead of waiting 30 mins for episodes to recode I'll just keep my screen on whilst I transfer my content.
Thanks for thoughts anyhow

Straight in to the PC. No USB Hub connected to the PC at all. Only thing is it connected via front panel, maybe connecting at the back would produce better results?

Bluray for shield TV

I like the nVidia shield TV.
But now it has happened, my visit had brought a BluRay.
Since asked myself the question whether it is possible to connect a BD drive to the shield TV and play movies?
That would be very awesome, if that were possible. Can you help me there possibly more?
Yes and no. You will probably need to find or write your own drivers, and compile your own software low level, possibly down to kernel depending on what the shield supports. On top of that, it's going to be a dificult process getting it to play once you simply have it mounted. Here is an example of someone getting a TVT drive to work on a transformer, then an update removed this ability even, and that's just a DVD player. (Check the rest of the thread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29383430&postcount=4
These are streaming devices, and optical media is dying as much as the stores try to tell you it's not. I highly suggest ripping your own media assuming the legality in your country and setting up a media streaming box or use your home PC if it'll handle it. Google, nor other box companies, are likely to try to add support as it's extra bloat to many, and on top of that, many that own movies will buy a digital copy if they want it and can't/won't rip their own media. If you can get a gathering of people who want it, and some good programmers who see a need, you may get support via custom software, but I would'nt hold your breath. If I can answer any more questions, or you would like something more clear, please let me know. Hope you enjoy your shield!
TLDR: Not now, and not likely. Sorry.
I gotta ask, why bother? BR owners generally fall into two categories - people with BR players and the tiny minority like me that rip movies to a server and stream the movies. Which ever method you were using before you got a nSATV will still work now. Most likely that means leaving your BR player (stand alone, PS3, whatever) hooked up to a different HDMI port. Moving forward, I agree with kdb424 - rip your movies and stream them. This could be a full Plex server setup, or something as simple as a network share + Kodi.
I have a hard time saying "just buy all your new movies from a streaming source" because I personally will not do that until Amazon Instant video is officially supported on Android TV, including the nSATV. The reasons are simple, I'm already a Prime member just for the shipping deals so many of the movies I would otherwise possibly buy are free, it's supported by every device I use other than nSATV, and I want all my purchased shows/movies to be from a single source.
I can understand that it really is not worth the effort.
However, with my friends, it is still generally the rule that they have and bring DVDs or Blurays.
You can rent them also for very little money, in video stores.
It would be easy to offer only to have a single device, with which I can play everything.
I have connected to the test a BD drive to the "shield TV" and can choose to be mounted the disc. The drive will be recognized as a memory.

So you are saying that you could get it to mount? If so you should be able to play it with Kodi or VLC (I recommend kodi) as it has disk support, but I haven't heard of anyone getting optical mediums of any sort working with android well. Hoping you have solved it.
I can see under Storage in the settings the drive but can not mount.
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk
I think no player can read br format yet. Only licenced ones like power DVD and stuff like that can. You better download a mkv bd rip under 4gb (or rip yourself) and put it on a fat 32 micro sd or USB hdd or thumb drive. Then read it with vlc, kodi or the mkv/mp4 player of your choice.I guess it is the only way.
Or directly download from the shield itself if you can.

Bega, can you try to play a dvd or music cd through kodi on the shield?
No. If i click to mount the "USB Storage", it goes back to the screen before and show that the " USB storage is unmounted and can safely removed"
At kodi i canĀ“t the the storage.
Yes it can be done only by mount the Bluray drive on the network instead of the USB route,
Then use Xbmc search for mounted d drive connect and play away, I use the vidonxbmc version with the beast version loaded onto of vidonxbmc so I can play back Bluray menu support so far it works flawlessly u can mount a bunch of virtual drives if u have ISO as well
This is on my shield TV.

Well yes it works for DVDs and MP4 but blueray codecs are licensed and not supported yet from open source players (vlc,kodi,plex...)
Yes but maybe no.
I know there is an (As seen on TV) Digiland tablet with a built-in DVD player, and there is an app on the tablet which plays the DVDs. So it's differently possible to watch DVD on an android device, and since Android TV is based on Regular Android, so it's possible to use any android app, but I tried searching "digiland dvd app "apk"", it just took me to the apks for FRP Bypass. If you happen to come across an apk, try using an external DVD player, you said Blu-Ray though. I mean, I did not look for a way to get Blu-rays working yet,
but I know that Blu-ray discs come with a DVD version, but 4K UHD Blu-ray discs don't come with DVDs. Yes, I get how nobody likes the 480p DVD video, but I am still searching for something that will work with Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray.
