I'm trying to add network share to my omnia - without success. Share is located on \\192.168.XXX.XXX\SharedFolder. I cannot use NETBIOS name (computer name), because this is disk pinned to my router (TL-1043ND) which as far as I know can be addressed only by IP. I was able to connect to both my PC's (using NETBIOS name: \\MyComp1\ShareName) without any problem. I'm using Resco and HTC Network plugin.
Can anyone explain why I cannot add network share using IP in WM ?

I had a JasJar and before it PDA2k and with both I could not mount network shares on my local home network. I write the address in file explorer in the format \\10.0.0.23\share where the share share does not even have a password and is share to everybody and the phone can not recognize the share.
It does see other devices on the local netword for example it can browse the Internet and access my routers web based admin but not the share.
Other computers on my home network can access the share.\
I heard there are programs that help in doing this, but is there no direct or free way to do this?
Try using Resco File Explorer in which you will be able to map shared network folders and then you can access them from File Explorer directly, it even support possword protected shared items.
Im using the standard file explorer, it works fine. I start by typing \\P4 which eventually shows my shares, and then I can navigate as I want.

still can not connect to share
Nasdaq, which version of windows do do you have the share on. Are there any special settings?
It gives me "network path was not found" always then "Network resource can not be found or you do not have the permission to access the network".
The share has no password, on windows it just logs me in without any further input.
I am using the openpath in the file explorer.
May be you need to check once again about IP Addresses and Default Gateway settings, which is not allowing you to connect with your LAN.

that will stop your universal from accessing a share normal windows machines can access.,.
Access shares problem is on Windows XP
This problem is on WindowsXP share not on windows server.
Also the imate can access the Internet and even the administration of the router, so I gues it has full TCP/IP abililty.
Are there any workgroup settings that I need to do?
Sorry for not getting back earlier, my share is on an XP sp1 box.
What I would REALLY like to do is browse my Exec over wifi from my PC. :?

I can't access shares by using the IP, I have to use the name of the machine: \\azhad instead of \\10.168.2.158

I had the same problem accessing network shares on my Universal...
I was also typing IP address in Resco Explorer and it was not working.
But I could make it work using the computer name. I have no idea why it work whil with basic ip address it couldn't, but at least I am able to browse my computer folder and play video files.
So try using "\\computername\share" to see if it's working.

I tried doing that, using the computer name. It takes more time to tell me that it can not access the server.
I think that to resolve the name of the computer it needs a wins server, is that correct?
Could it also be in your network settings if you set your network as internet or connects to work?

Jatt theoretically you should be able to create a network share on any computer on your network and be able to access it on your phone. This is really handy since you would not need to activesync to exchange files.
But note that for JasJar/Exec or any WM5 device you can not sync over the network just share files.

I've got the same problem. I can connect to the internet through my router but for the life of me I can't connect to the shared on my PC (XP SP2). I know it's not a problem with my EXEC because I can connect to my PC at work. I can see my PC in the device list but not connect to it.
The first time I tried to connect using Resco Explorer 05 I managed to ge the screen asking for log-on details, but never got any further as it said my passwork was incorrect. Since then I've never managed to get the log-on screen back only an error say the network resource was unavailable.
I've ran the XP network set-up wizard more times than I can count, changed my PC settings manually but still had no luck. Has no one figured out what we're doing wrong?
I didn't really understand the machine name issue as I don't have any WINS or DNS server at home... But for me it worked...
Anyway you should try to temporarily disable your personnal firewall (On the computer you're trying to access) just to see if it is not blocking network traffic for the windows sharing.
If it is the problem, then you have to configure your firwall to stop blocking this traffic...

Ok i know i already saw the answer of this somewhere but i already looked for it and i just cant find it.
I have a athena and i would like to remotely connect to my pc that is on my office and use it remotely, i know there are programs to do this i just cant get the right words to find them.

2. make sure that if you are using a router the you open up port 3389... it has to be this port and no other
3. on your desktop goto start/settings/control panel/system/remote and click the box that says "allow users to connect remotely to this computer", that is it you don't need to click anything else
4. open up the program and type in your ip address without the port number then username and password - which must match your windows login and password.

All good advice but this may not work if your office PC is behind a firewall / your office network uses Network Address Translation or you need a VPN to access the network. Give it a go and see what happens but if the IP address of your office PC starts 10.0.0 or 192.168 or similar, it is unlikely to work. You will then have to use a remote access service.

Also if your IP's range anywhere within 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255, the you're behind a firewall.

If you're just using 3G/HSDPA you shouldn't have any problems connecting.
If you've got a DSL connection with a dynamic IP address (like mine with Virgin Media) Just register and download the NO-IP software (www.no-ip.com - it's free) then instead of typing in your Ip address on RD you'll put "....no-ip.biz" - or whatever they assign you.
As already stated you HAVE to open up port 3389 on your router and assign it to the relevant pc. This number you will find by entering "ipconfig" in the cmd window. Be aware that if your router gets turned off you could find that the IP address of your computer changes, so you'll have to go back into your router settings and change it to the new ip address for that pc.

Of course, this only applies if you are not behind a corporate firewall using NAT or other dynamic IP behind the firewall. Also, if it is a corporate network, opening port 3389 may be (a) very difficult to convince your IT dept to do and (b) not very secure!
If one iof the dynamic dns systems works for you, you might try dyndns.org

Is there a way to change the mac address of the wifi network interface of the titan?
I would like to be able to do that so I can use my titan's browser to authenticate to web portals, and then use my wifi voip phone (with the same mac address) to make calls.
Do you mean MAC address or IP address?
The MAC is a hardcoded address of the form xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx, using hex. MAC addresses cannot be changed as each interface has a unique number. The MAC address can be spoofed to match another interface, this is usually an available feature on routers to spoof to the ISP that you are not sharing a connection on your home network.
The IP address can be changed and is of the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx using only numbers. The WIFI interface on the titan will be set up for DHCP, ie it requests an address from the wireless source it is connected to. This can be changed to give the IP address required if DHCP is not availabe on the network selected.
I am talking about changing/spoofing the mac address if the network wifi card.
There are a bunch of utilities out there that are able to do so on the fly for windows XP, maybe someone has one for windows mobile?
Or a registry key location that does that?

Using a HTC HD2 I am trying to access my home network via WIFI (WPA2/PSK - AES). Some of it works, some of it doesn't and I was hoping some of you would be able to point me in the right direction:
I can connect to intranet pages (for instance utorrent web interface) via IP, but not via hostname.
I cannot connect to network (smb) shares at all, either via IP or hostname.
A program which requires the hostname to work (since I use it over Hamachi VPN as well as locally and don’t want to change the IP based on how I use it) does work over Hamachi and not over WIFI.
I'm quite confused
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like your DNS isn't working. Do you have custom DNS servers configured in the "Name Servers" tab of network card config?

It should get it from DHCP (though I have tried assigning a static IP and dns, but this gave the same result)
Also, I have another older win mobile device, and with the same setttings it does allow me to access the network shares (by IP and hostname)
I've combed all settings regarding wifi and network, but since they are the same I am guessing it is probably a different at the registry level?
The HTC HD2 does have 2 broadcom wifi adapters mentioned though, a normal one and one with a DHD postfix.

Are you using Hamachi on your phone?
Did you have this problem prior to installing Hamachi?
The reason being is Hamachi installs a network interface which exists whether or not Hamachi is running
You may want to check your Data Connection settings and see if it has applied the "requires a proxy" setting
What are you using as your DNS server though, that is the question.
If it's your broadband router, then chances are it won't be able to serve DNS requests for internal devices (ie computers on your home network).
If that's the case, you'll need a proper DNS server (get an old PC and install Linux) and create a local domain such as home.local, or if you've got a registered domain, you can even set it up the same (domain.com for instance) just tell the DNS server it's the domain master.
It's been yonks since I played around with Linux so I can't tell you how, much easier with Windows Server
Some people advise against using the same public domain name as an internal domain name, but it just means you add A records for any public addressess such as WWW.domain.com or mail.domain.com if it's accessable outside your network as well as inside.
Alternatively, if you're only going to be accessing them via the home network then you could try adding a few hosts to your registry (use the windows calc or similar to convert each IP address number to Hex)
