[Q] Automatically diverted to mobile site? - HD2 General

I have been logging to Facebook thru the main site. But lately Facebook keeps diverting me to mobile site. I read somewhere that they use some web application using php to detect if we are using PC or mobile device.
I was so proud to use HD2 because of the big screen and able to log in to main sites , now the privilege is gone. Anyone can offer any help?

I have been having similar problems with this. thought it was to do with browser type and it storing cookies or something. As I can surf on the full version of site for a while then suddenly it will divert me again to mobile version. Super annoying

you'll need to change the 'custom user agent' in the opera:config page to something like I have:
Opera/9.99 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) Presto/9.99

hmm, I just have a user agent in my oper:config which is currently set to 1. Typed in what you had but it doesn't seem to save

I am so sorry for being a novice and 'idiot' here .... how do you change the 'custom user agent'? I know it must be frustrating to explain but I really appreciate your help

Hey, try typing
"opera:config" in the address box of your opera mobile browser...
Then scroll to "User Prefs" and you should find "Custon User Agent" inside.. =)

I tried the opera:config switch, but it didn't work (maybe because I'm using Opera 10). I've just settled on using Opera when it works, and switching to Skyfire when it doesn't.

Not sure if you guys have found an answer to this, but for me, the following works.
In opera go to "opera:config"
Scroll down to "User prefs" and open this
Scroll down to "UAProf URL Enabled" and uncheck this (remove the tick)
scroll to bottom and hit save
Restart opera, and that should do it.
as posted by member Aleemz in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601951&highlight=opera:config&page=2 it worked a treat for me.

Hi,
excuse me for the bad english, I am an italian user....
I use Opera 10 and it happened also to me, with italian main web site.
It happen no more by this way: when Opera redirect you on Facebook mobile site, tap on "exit", then open official Facebook web site and save the page. Remember to disable "Opera Turbo" in Opera settings.
I hope it could be useful.....

Yeah, I was able to edit and save the new user agent text, but it still redirected me to the mobile site. It's been working fine for a few days, but the next time it doesn't, I'll try the Uaprof tweak.

Same here. Says unsupported device
has anyone got fix for this?

Run Opera
In the address bar enter opera:config (no http://)
Scroll down to User Prefs and click
Scroll down to Custom User-Agent and at the end of the pre-filled text add sgh-i900
Scroll down some more and press Save. You will get a prompt which suggests you may need to reset the phone, but for this you don’t.
Now point your browser to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/ and enjoy.

So what would the device id be for the X1?
I'm assuming it's just missing from the new build or something, has anyone got the old build who can check?

Huh?
I also had it working fine on the R1A firmware, what has changed that it no longer works without the sgh900 thing?
I am having the same problem. Opera isnt even displaying pages the same as it was before.
Could someone post their exact full custom user agent string as since flashing to R2A UK Generic Opera has left this field blank.
I still have version 1 ROM on my X1 and in the custom User-Agent its a blank field... so not sure what should be in there...

re whats in the field r1 vs r2...
That's a pokey work around..
it tells the beeb that more people are usign omnias than the X1 that's no good!
the original that works on R2A roms as well is
Code:
vodafone/1.0/SEX1i/R1AA Opera/9.5 (Microsoft Widows; PPC; Opera Mobi/2141; U; UK) UP.Link/6.3.1.20.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
Obviously you can change the vodafone to something else
Also note:
Couple of thing I've found with it, that are likely to cause issues..
changing the build number to the current one on the X1 stops Iplayer working.
this string causes websites to pick up the mobile version by default, changing from PPC causes Iplayer to stop working.. :/
But most websites that are that browser aware have an option to use desktop version anyway.

you could, copy the opera ini file to your desktop edit it paste the string in and copy the ini file back to your x1.
or you could open this page in opera on your x1 in one tab, with opera:config in the other, select and copy the string and past in the other tab..

I'm not 100% certain, (especially the UP.link bit) but I think it means details of java agent as well as operator, what the browser is capable of etc (the bit in the brackets)..
I think that you should be okay to swap vf for o2, try it in iplayer after changing it, fi I player doesn't work change it back..
there's others on here who know much more about this kind of thing than me..
but this is a good one;

How do i reinstate Opera as default browser after installing/uninstalling Skyfire

Can't find an answer to this using search so forgive me if i missed it.
Pretty much as the title states, i was intrigued with the prospect of skyfire so i gave it a go, doing so pushes internet explorer to the default browser (hateful program!!).
I just need to get opera as the default browser again.
Any help grateful.
in operas setting there is one which makes it set as default browser, (but i cant see it on mine??? ,might be cos i upgraded to the flash version on here????)
open opera, go to settings have a look around, i couldnt see it either....
although you can try this...
:extra:
go to opera and then go to this page opera:config
you will find alot of extra settings here to change things about
there must be a registry setting for which is default browser might be as simple as what open ".html" files
Use a registry edit
I have had to do this a couple of times now through playing with alternative broswers. I read elsewhere that if you type opera:config into the address bar in opera, you can bring up all the preferences. Apparently checking 'Browser First Time Launch' in the 'Install' section is supposed to reinstate Opera as the default browser, but it didn't work for me.
I have found the easiest way is simply to use a reg fix by using a registry editor (I have been using EveryWan which also allows you to remote control your Touch HD as well as many other useful tools: http://www.sparus-software.com/Device-Management/Products/EveryWAN-Remote-Support,43/THE-ULTIMATE-TOOL-FOR-HOTLINERS.html).
Edit the registry as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER
"0"=Opera Browser
"1"="\Windows\OperaL.exe\"
After this everything should be hunkydory
Regards,
Guy
Will give this ago, maybe this should go wiki? if it's not already.
The possibiltys that skyfire/other new browsers may tempt to install but lose the default functionality of opera, which in my mind is superb on the HD.
Thanks Chaps
Hey. thanks for all the suggestions. I did change the registry values, according to the instructions above, I did tick the install option in Opera config, and still I get IE opening when I click on a link in RSS Feed. Anyone has another idea?
Thanks!

This is relevant to my interests. I really dislike IE opening my rss feeds as well.
I also have this problem.
It happened after installing and unistalling skyfire.
Every time I click in a link (for example in the email) it opens in the IE.

Since I wrote the post above I have discovered that using the internal Opera method is the best because not only does it reinstate Opera as the default for opening links from e-mails, but it also resets the default program for RSS reader which was driving me nuts.
I did mention this briefly previously, but simply load up Opera and then type opera:config in the address bar. This will bring up all the settings. Now find the 'Install' section and expand the section by tapping the word 'Install'. Now check the 'Browser First Time Launch' box and then tap 'Save'. It will come up with some nonsense about running a javascript command, but just select okay and then quit out the browser and re-start.
I found the above method reset Opera as my default for all apps, so hope it works.
Good luck,
G
Sure this works. Any way to reverse the setting ? i.e. not to make Opera the default browser anymore...

Gisbourne,
Could you help-out on how to set my Opera as default?. I tried your suggestion on Post # 3 & 11. But it did not did the trick. I tried also the following suggestion:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\
"OperaEXEFile"=<Path to Opera>
"WebBrowserType"=dword:00000001
I can't input the characters "dword:00000001" on WebBrowserType, coz I got only three (3) choices either Binary, Decimal or Hexadecimal. Tried to put the characters, but my home screen (M2D) keeps on reseting when I go to the widgets.
Maybe you still have something under your sleeve to help me out . Thanks in advance.

I replaced the data to "\Windows\Opera9.exe"
Well it did not reset to home screen but when i clicked the IE browser opens.

I will help you more with links and such, the problem is that im browsing on my HD.

Increase number of tabs in Opera?

I'm currently using Dutty's 3.2 ROM with his 3.3 fix applied.
When I have 2 tabs open in Opera and try and open a 3rd, I get a 'maximum number of tabs' message.
Ideally I'd be able to open 3 or 4 tabs at once, so I did a search to see if I can find out how to change it - as my old Diamond could open 3 at a time.
I found a thread which said open Opera and type opera:config into the title bar and then search for 'tabs'. I do this, and its set to 2... so I change it to 4. It then tells me I may need to reset the device for changes to be applied. I restart it... and I still get the same error when I try and open a 3rd tab! If I type in opera:config again, its set back to 2. It seems to be resetting itself - and it doens't work if I don't reboot either.
Is there some file set as read only or something that I need to change before I change the setting as it doesn't seem to be keeping what I change it to.
Thanks in advance!
I have the same problem!
Edit : sorry, I didn't pay attention that you already tried
Just found the answer by fiddling - so heres how if anyones interested!
Open Total Commander, and browse to the Windows directory. Open the Opera9 folder.
Find the file opera.ini and click on it. Click File -> Edit.
Scroll down to the heading [User Prefs] (quite far down)
Find 'Maximum Allowed Tabs=' and change the 2 to a 4 (or whatever you want)
Click File -> Save.
Now find the file opera1.ini and click on it. Click File -> Edit.
Scroll down to the heading [User Prefs] (near the top this time!)
Find 'Maximum Allowed Tabs=' and change the 2 to a 4 (or whatever you want)
Click File -> Save.
Click File -> Exit.
Now REBOOT the device. When you start, you should be able to open 4 (or whatever you chose) tabs.
Simple really!!

Or, another way:
Start opera.
Type "opera:config" in the address bar.
Scroll down to "User prefs" category and open it.
Keep scrolling to you get to "Maximum Allowed Tabs" and type in a new number.
Depending on which ROM version you're running, you either need to restart opera or restart your mobile for it to take effect.
(I think you only need to restart entire mobile if you're using a "Push Internet" ROM)

If you're using Dutty's 3.3 rom and try what you said - it doesn't work - hence why I said I'd tried it in the first post... and then found a way of actually getting it to work.

You are completely correct.
I read the first post, but didn't pay attention.
I read 'maximum number of tabs' and thought Opera:config, why bother with editing files... ?
What's worse; I have Dutty's 3.3 and had the same problem.
In my case it worked using Opera:config, exiting opera using opera's menu and then reboot...
Nevertheless, I apologize. I should have read with my brain as well as my eyes...

Close one of the tabs you have open first and then try and open something else.
Alternatively to increase amount of tabs:
Start Opera, type the following into the address bar opera:config
Find "User Prefs"
Find "Max Allowed Tabs". Set the value as you want.
Or open the opera.ini file in \Windows\Opera\ and add the following line under the [User Prefs] section:
"Maximum Allowed Tabs=X"
I believe it's somewhere in the opera:config (accessed via opera url) under user pref. A google search for opera mobile config should tell you how to access it.
.... I did it for you, here's a link:
http://www.nirmaltv.com/2009/01/21/how-to-increase-number-of-tabs-in-opera-mobile/
(and lol, by the name of this url, I'm gonna guess you never searched this....plz use search before posting)
Ok (sorry), Thanks very much guys.

How to get the real ENGADGET on Opera 10 (solution)

Hi guys I was very frustrated every time I want to read Engadget on the new opera mobile 10 without using Turbo mode. I spend lot of time looking for a solution trying to spoof agent and others but no way to get the real version...instead everytime I get a text only version for wap devices.
Finally I found the solution:
In opera10 goto to the web page "OPERA:CONFIG"
goto NETWORK and scroll down for "HTTP Accept"
there put this text:
text/html, application/xml;q=0.9, application/xhtml+xml, image/png, image/jpeg, image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, */*;q=0.1, application/youtube-client, application/x-obml2d, multipart/mixed
PS:This solution can be a workarround to others sites with the same problem too.
I hope this will be usefull to someone
it's a pain in the ass typing it all, but it's worth it thanx for the tip. now if there would be a fix for the text flow/break
My biggest issue is the crap zoom (needs at least a zoombar if pinch to zoom isn't an option) and camera not working with Opera running in the background.
Also, for engadget (I'm on there all the time), you can just scroll down and hit view desktop/full version. Also, you can add something like ?m=false (it's not that exactly, and I can't check it at the moment) and it will change the default mobile version to the full version.
However if your tweak works for all sites, then hats of to you! And I need to get on that later tonight.
You dont need to type it!
connect your HD2 to activesync, and go to the folder where you installed opera 10, got to the folder profile and then edit the file "Opera.ini" (in my case it is \Storage Card\program files\Opera Mobile 10\profile\opera.ini)
There, under [Network] add the text like this:
[Network]
HTTP Accept=text/html, application/xml;q=0.9, application/xhtml+xml, image/png, image/jpeg, image/gif, image/x-bitmap, */*;q=0.1, application/youtube-client, multipart/mixed
Save the file to the HD2 and that is
(I first do this the hard way...typing all in the HD2 grrr)
