I was one of the foolish who lost root when I accepted and downloaded the Froyo ota. My question is simple, if I have a rooted nandroid back up of 2.1, how do I revert back to it? Do I have to use adb? Is there a way to unlock the stock nandroid back up utility on the phone? Lastly, I just can't seem to get the hang of adb and have searched high and low for instructions that just make sense.

When you updated with the OTA your rooted recovery with nandroid was lost. There is currently no way to restore it. So in summary you're previous nandroid backups are useless until a root method is found for 2.2.

I am stuck with the new cupcake ota. That's all that would flash. I updated the dream.. Then I got root, but still I cannot flash anything(only the ota 1.5).
I tried the testkeys recovery and no go. I just want the bootloader fixed so I can restore a backup.
Can I downgrade to rc29 , root and then adb push the recovery,system,data images ?
Never mind the problem was you HAVE to have a NEWLY SD. All good now !
After getting assert_failed errors since forever on 2.3.2, I finally downgraded my radio to fix them and without even thinking installed 2.3.4 OTA. The install went fine but I lost my root.
Now, I haven't unlocked my bootloader. To root, I have to unlock the bootloader which will wipe my phone clean. To take a nandroid/full backup of phone I need root. So, kinda stuck in a catch-22 here.
I still have ROM Manager installed and when I used backup feature in it, it created a new backup. However I am not sure if its a full phone backup or just the ROM. Is there anyway to verify?
Also, any solution to gain my root back with all my data? I am fine with unlocking the bootloader as long as my data is safe.

This just struck my mind. If I modify the update file and put in su binaries repackage it and reinstall it on my phone, would it work? Can I even reinstall an update?

You can create it, of course, but I doubt you could install it with a locked bootloader, since you are unlikely to have the private key google uses to sign its updates.
How much can I back-up without rooting my phone? I'll backup the SD partition. I just want all my application settings (eg; Angry birds data) with all the applications, messages and contacts. Is it possible to back all these up without root?
I have titanium installed, if its any good?

So I have an AT&T galaxy s4 and I rooted and installed TWRP recovery. I want to revert my s4 completely back to stock as in remove twrp recovery and unroot. Ive been trying to look for a way to get stock recovery back on my s4 but cant seem to find the answer. Please help me out!!!!!

I did the "Casual" TWRP Recovery and Root for my AT&T S4 and love it. I booted into recovery and flashed a backup image of my stock device and saved the 3.56 GB nandoid file on both the internal and external SD and put another copy of my original phone image or nandroid or backup or whatever flavor you want to call it, on my PC.
I've frozen 37 phone functions with Titanium Backup and dodged a bullet. I heard there was another over the airwaves update from AT&T a couple days ago, and I am pleased to see it never appeared on my S4. I couldn't be happier. I have yet to try any custom roms as cyanogenmod doesn't seem to be getting any love lately, plus I would not want to give up the universal remote in the on board "watch on" app.
Why do you want to undo TWRP custom recovery and lose root? Titanium Backup needs root. Did you flash a custom rom without going into recovery first and making a backup of your stock handset once you got root and TWRP?

well.....Theres nothing wrong with TWRP recovery and root, its just that I have no need for it. I have tried a few custom roms and none offer battery life better than that of the stock TW software so I decided to just stay stock. As you said like 2 days ago at&t rolled out another OTA, however I dont think my phone installed it. It booted into TWRP and it started installing a zip. I wasnt sure if that was the OTA or not. I just dont need the TWRP and root as of now and its kind of a hastle in my current state to flash the new OTA's instead of having it automatically install via stock recovery.

I have just got a new LG G2!
I want to root it, but I'm a little bit confused atm:
1) Rooting the device using IORoot does not change the kernel or recovery, does it? (I'll be rooted runnig stock and won't be able to flash stuff)
2) If I want to create a nandroid backup, I have to flash first CWM/TWRP. So how can I make a nandroid backup for my current unrooted and runnig stock phone?
3) Can I backup my EFS files without a custum recovery (with root only)?
4) Is that correct that after each rom I flash, the phone needs to be rooted again?

2. You use the cwm. Or twrp to make the backup.
3. Not sure, have always been rooted sui never looked for a way to do that.
4. No, I've never had to reroot after installing any rom.

I want Lollipop and my Nexus 4 won't shut up about the OTA update. Naturally, it failed, and i have since tried to find a fool-proof guide to uptade it WITHOUT LOOSING DATA. Not been so lucky. Theres talk about fastbooting (?) and going back to stock, but not much in the way of step-by-step guides. I think most people with nexus 4 and root are like me - did it because it was easy, not knowing a lot about it...
I have rooted with towelroot, installed TWRP custom recovery with flashify, unlocked bootlocker with Bootunlock, installed Xposed framework and SuperSU. Never used ADB or any commands. Can't be the only one in this exact situation
What excactly do i need to do to get Lollipop without loosing any data (like a regular OTA update)?
Maybe user Titanium Backup or some kinda backup software to backup files and stuff then just go for a fresh installation? Most of the basic settings should be saved to your google account.

Thanks for the quick reply! But i was hoping for a solution that DIDN'T wipe my phone. I just wanna undo all the rooting business, so i can do the OTA...

Follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312.
there are a few things to note:
1. You do not need to unlock the bootloader, you will have done that when you rooted
2. Download the 5.0 image instead of the original stock image when you do this.
3. DO NOT flash userdata.img. That will wipe your data.
Those are the steps I followed to flash over to 5.0 without losing data.
But I would absolutely do a backup anyway, just in case something goes wrong.

Ok, cool. So you're saying to towel-root my device, unlock bootloader with bootunlocker app, remove root by installing SuperSU and using the clean-up funtion. And then adb fastboot flash boot/recovery/system from the FACTORY img? Why not sideload the OTA instead? Because it wont work unless i reflash stock 4.4.4 completely?
