Chinese SanDisk or Noname Japanese card? - Droid Incredible General

Hey guys,
So I have a SanDisk card that's made in china in my Incredible right now but I also have a card made in Japan with no brand labeling on it and was wondering if you had any suggestions as to which one would be the fastest and/or more reliable or if there are any ways to test these parameters? I wanted to see which one would be faster but in doing so have read that SanDisk SD cards didn't have the best longevity in the past, so that's a factor as of now as well.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Both are Class 2

Sounds like you're getting ripped off with the Japenese card.... I'd pay the extra for a Japanese card instead...
Anyhow, as far as your questions, which would be faster- the knock-off blank label Japanese card or SanDisk.... I have no idea

Hahahaah I had no idea what the upper portion of your message meant until I saw my thread title D'oh! Typos.

Transferring to new miniSD

I have a 512MB card installed with TomTom map, music, some apps installed, etc.
If I buy a new, bigger card, can I just use the card reader in my PC to cut/paste everything onto my new card, re-insert it into my XDA Mini and it'll all work?
Cheers
PS - can someone recommend me a good reliable place to buy miniSD cards? I'm wary of sites offering very cheap brand name cards (SanDisk, etc) in case they're fakes.
Cheers
Yes you are correct you can just transfer the data from your old card to a folder on the PC then to the new card with a card reader.
While I was in the UK I bought cards from http://www.photo-scotland.co.uk/ and in the US from Amazon.com.
Hope that helps.

Why? Okay maybe if they are pushing brand name cards, but why pay more than you have to? I got a 4gb Mini-SD card from the same Chinese shops that makes brand named cards for under $30! Try that at Best Buy. Heck you can not even BUY a 4gb Mini-SD or a 2gb Micro-SD from a big box store. At least none that I have seen. If it is all made in China, why pay the middle man???
www.newegg.com usually has good prices.
Purely because I've heard horror stories of people losing data from fake cards (mostly on PSP forums)

Yes. I've even written a full tutorial on this; see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=516&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I had a fault with a 2gb peak card that it would randomly not be read or corrupt all the data. I swapped it for another and that works fine, ive used cheap brands in the past and this is the only one that ive had thats faulty.

I have heard stories of minsd's in particular that have been "hacked" to display as 4gb cards but only be 2gb while in use. Those of course comes from ebay.
Yes, stick with Newegg.com
I've have actually seen them, a guy tried to sell my the load of mini and micro sd cards. I can tell the firmware were hack, there was no way he had more than a hundred 4gb cards. And if your buying from ebay, buy from someone with alot of postive comments, and stay away from generics.

microSDHC Memory Cards

Hi,
I've been searching this forum for information about micro SDHC memory cards that can be used with the Kaiser P4550 and found that the A-Data company seems to make nice ones (fast read and write speeds) as tested by kms108 here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341277
However I cannot find where to purchase A-Data cards from within the UK. I have been looking for a Class 6 4GB memory card and have only been able to find one which I can purchase. It is by PEAK Company who are located in Taiwan I believe. I don't know if this card is good/compatible but I assume it will be;
http://www.peakhardware.com/products/productdetail.asp?Id=325&A=2&B=3&C=35
I have found out that the read speed of this card is 22.5MB/s (high?) but the write speed is 11.84MB/s. (low?)
If anyone can suggest an alternative class 6 SDHC 4GB card which I can purchase online from the UK or from a shop here I would be very appreciative. Also I would just like to buy a card that doesn't come with adapters and other devices lol.
When using a memory card within the PDA phone would the write speed actually matter in relation to the read speed for normal usage or should I just worry about the read speed?
Thanks
Just put one of these in my Kaiser last night. They have the 4GB too. These folks ship all over the world. Don't know what it'll cost to get across the pond though...

If the peaks memory card does offer that speed you have mention, then it's faster than the adata, but do remember a class 4 may not neccessary be slower than the class 6, do consider the sandisk 6GB or 8GB, the results are better than the adata, even with the test done on a low spec PC, for me I will not consider the peaks, haven't heard of it, go for a branded one, the sandisk can be found from many uk online store.
higher speed memory cards do offer a slightly improvement even on phones and PDA, but are more noticable on a PC.
FYI
test results can only be taken into consideration if done by consumers (the end user), and not by the manufacture.
if you are interested on any of the memory card in the test, I have some of them and they are readly available, you must have paypal, do PM me.

Thanks for the replies and info I guess ill be searching for the cheapest 4 or 6 gb sandisk card.
If you are shopping online in the UK be sure to avoid the following:
sandiskshop.co.uk
onlinememory.co.uk
pdaonline.co.uk
CarKitOnline.co.uk
but are all really anpruk.com
See this thread for more details http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345945
If you like to actually receive a product when you pay, best steer well clear of these crooks.
hey thanks for informing me about the crooks stuart_f . That really leaves me stumped about where to purchase a card from lol. I might buy it from http://bargainmemorycards.co.uk
Please help Many thanks.
edit
I have just found a 4GB class 6 A-Data that I can purchase online in the UK but its relatively expensive...might as well get a 6GB sandisk card for that amount i think.
https://www.memory-configurator.co....o_microSDHC-TransFlash-Memory_Card/index.html
Just bought a 6GB SanDisk one Class 4 from Amazon....cheaper than eBay and works great.
Could i have a link to the one you purchased from amazon please...just to compare prices. did it come from another company or directly from amazon? thanks

I really don't understand why some people rather ask and wait than just type in 'sandisk 6GB micro' in Amazon's search. Next time, try to do that on your own...
http://www.amazon.com/MicroSDHC-Ada...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1197710976&sr=8-2
hey _Alex_ i had a look at amazon.co.uk actually i just wanted to confirm it was the same one. it comes with an adapter and reader etc which i didnt want. however the one that you referenced to is from amazon.com and i cant afford to ship from abroad. thanks anyway.

Maximum GB that works smoothly in Elf..

Hey guys, I tried to search about this topic in the forum but I don'y anything about it or was it just already in pit of the forum?
Anyways, I would like to ask the maximum capacity of memory card for Elf(in)? I am planning to buy a micro-sd and I just want to buy the best available.
Does it support SDHC memory cards? And also, does using a large GB of memory presents a risk on my device to be brick when time goes on?
Thanks for the help guys!

I have 4gb micro sdhc and it works fine. I have heard that 8GB won't function properly after a while. But I am not a genius
SanDisk 8GB
I've been working with a SanDisk 8GB MicroSD HC for about 4 months now, and still have had no issues...
And that goes without saying that I think It's a fake SanDisk, because of the packaging.
Have an 8GB SanDisk on my Elfin. Works great.
@vette95: Good to hear that! Thanks for responding..
@htedum: how long have you bean using your 8gb micro-sd? Haven't experienced any problem yet? Any slow down or hangs?
i've been using 8gb in my elf for over a year and did not ever have any issues or hangs so i would recommend it.
just my 2 cents
Wow! Thanks bro for the feedback! Will buy 8gb now.. hehe..
Been using it for two weeks now; no problems at all. I've overclocked to 273 using HomeScreen, maybe that helps. Loaded up 6G worth of music and 1G worth of movies. Installed PocketPlayer (and TCPMP for movies), and I have a slick, portable media player. Battery life isn't bad at all, but I've ordered a 2500mAh replacement, waiting for that to come in.
A tip - be sure to pick up an original, name-brand card, even if you have to pay more. A lot of fakes going around, they may slow down your phone.
@vette95: No problems with your fake?
I've been searching google how to detect fake micro-sd but unfortunately the only info I got was to make sure the serial of the memory is readable and also try to call on the manufacturer and confirm the serial. Of course, I cannot do that when I am in the store, to check each items and call them. LOL. So do you know other ways how to know it if it is genuine?
The best bet would be to avoid ebay and the like; that's where most of them are floating around. Since you're buying retail, you should be pretty safe, since you can go right back to the store if you discover that it's fake.
From what I've read, there's also the issue of classes; best pick up class 6 or at least class 4. Class 2 will be slow.

Also check the packaging. Check if the fonts are printed alright and not fading or anything.
I have already bought a 4gb sdhc class 6 kingston micro-sd. There is no 8gb available in store so I decided to just go with 4gb and just upgrade when I need it. It was fast and I guest it is not fake(though I'm not sure). Thanks for the advice guys. I hope this will also be helpful for people who are planning to upgrade memory.
As far as I know, Transcend and Sandisk are the brands that are flooding in the market which are fake so I really looked for other brand. Fortunately I found one and it is made in Japan(the fakes are made in China written at the back of this brands) so I'm little confident with the memory I bought. hehe..
ive been using an 8gb card too for awhile now on my elfin. just got my 16gb card last month and havent had a problem yet. everything runs very smoothly.
i have 8GB V-gen and running well until now...
8gb
i´ve used a 8gb sdhc since a month without problems...it runs smoothly...
I bought a 16 gb sandisk sdhc. It didn't even register regardless of what drivers I installed on my phone.

Does anybody know this cheap 16gb SDHC?

http://cgi.ebay.com/16GB-New-Micro-...aphy_MemoryCardReaders_RL?hash=item2a037ccc95
Anybody?
I have read the description, and it says "Trans Flash" with "TF" sigle, What is it?
Is it the standard SDHC? Will it work well on my fuze? (I know that it is not a fast speed, maybe class 1, but I want to know about this transflash)
What is this transflash? is every SDHC transflash? if not, wich diference betwin them?
I am looking for buying a good speed also, Does anybody know this one below?
http://cgi.ebay.com/6t6z-TOPRAM-16G...C_Drives_Storage_Internal?hash=item518e6accd3
This is class 6, but in the annoucement says Trans Flash too, will it work on my fuze?
I wanna know if both these will work on fuze, because I am afraid of buying and loosing the item, please help me!
Kingston 16 GB class 2 works on my touch Pro like a charm ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroSD
Appearently TF is the original MicroSD name.
Not sure you'd need a Class 6..., but it looks like it should work to me.
Be very carefull with cheap MicroSD etc Stuff from Ebay...
Especially from China!
This Ebayer is accused to manipulate the cards memory.
Because I fell for that "sosflash" memory hack stuff myself, I warn you.
Youll get a 2 or maybe 4 (if lucky) Gb MicroSD hacked to show 16Gb.
I brought a SanDisk card from Amazon a few months ago for £40

Don't buy memory cards from ebay...unless its a greally good seller. And you can tell a card is fake with the crappy writing on it. Cant find one for microSD but heres one for MSProDuo: http://www.gogetbuy.com/images/article/Fake_2gb_sony.jpg. You could clearly see by how the letters are printed.
I have bougth one of this on ebay, I hope it works as 16gb SD card, I will test it before feding back the user, when I was reading his feedbacks, I noted every of them and I saw that it was in the most positive, but if it dont work as 16gb I will f**** his feedbacks, explaining his frauds.
Hope everything works good, I dont want problems
hehe
Thank you all.
http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/
Just read there.. I fell for it too <.<
Bought a "cheap" 16 Gb MicroSD from Ebay. Afterwards I tried to get some movies and music on it. It simply gives you an error if it gets over 2Gb content!
No wonder, 16 Gb MicroSD arent cheap or common in china! Its the other way around!
So I spend around 20US on a fake 16Gb card.
That sucked. This fraud is often used for cheap MP3 player too.
I have PQI 16GB class 2 its working wery good
I think I just fell for the exact same thing. It hasn't even gotten here yet.
Is there anything I can do? I'd like to get my money back for pride's sake, but I also want to do whatever I can to get back at the seller.

I've read mixed reviews on the 32gb cards. I've heard people say that anything over 16gb isn't recognized by the hero. Don't quote me, just repeated what I heard and I don't remember if it was on XDA or someplace else where I read it, but I'd do a little research before buying one on whether or not it will work.
Having said that, the best microSD cards are probably Sandisk and Transcend. Your mileage may vary. I recommend NOT purchasing from overseas vendors...a lot of times you'll end up with a piece of junk. Amazon usually has pretty good deals, as does best buy, so I'd check there.

There's a little C printed on the card with a number inside it, that number is what class you've got.

Either a SanDisk or Transcend and it should be class 6 for the faster speeds.
Are these for real Class 4
are there any Class 6 yet ?
