unlagfix before flashing rom - Galaxy S I9000 General

excuse me,i have a problem.
i want flash my galaxy with rom m5 but i must unlag the phone before flashing?
thank you

I think you *should* do it. However i'm not certain about it..

No, you don't have to unlagfix it... you can if you want to, but a full flash will format the internal memory before rewriting

Last time I flashed my phone, I didn't unlagfix it. Works fine. No problem encountered.

I flashed without removing the lagfix by RyanZA. Odin got stuck on the first attempt. Had to remove the battery to switch off the phone and start the process again, then it went fine. Doubt that had anything to do with the lagfix anyway, just Odin having trouble.

I'm guessing that at the second time you selected "repartition" in Odin, right?
That would undo some partition possibly made by lagfixers

Lagfixes don't make any partitions. So no.

Sorry RyanZA, you'd know that better than anyone I'm still confused about some tweaks that lagfixers do.
BTW, your oneclick is great, keep it growing and getting better =)

BOOTLOOP

Hi guys, I flashed a jamal's 4.3 rom coming from omega's google edition rom and i did the usual stuff like I always have factory reset etc.. and i reboot the system and fix permissions as usual and my phone is now stuck on the omega's spinning boot up animation with the phone vibrating.
HELP!!!
Re-download the rom, could be a bad download. Did you check the md5sum?

It's a long alpha-numeric number that is associated with the file. Next time you download a rom look for it on the download page. When you down load a file the md5sum should match the original indicating a good download. There are apps that check the md5 and most file managers will show it in properties
ok, but how do i get out of the bootloop

If you've done the factory reset and that doesn't get you out I'm guessing the rom you flashed was a bad download. You made a nandroid backup before you flashed the rom, right. Boot back into recovery and restore it. Then re download the rom and try it again

Live and learn, I was afraid of that. You're probably going to have to use Odin then which will return you back to stock. And then start everything over again. Have you let the boot loop go for like 5 minutes. Sometimes it can take that long on first boot, but the vibration isn't normal.

Try flashing it again then. Do all the wipes first then flash it and then flash gapps. Did you flash the gapps package? I'm not sure what rom you're trying to flash but it probably requires gapps too.

gapps isn't on my phone so i cant flash it. i've flash it about ten times now and it won't work. it must be a bad download even though i flashed it before. after i flash the rom, it shows the boot animation of the rom i had been using before. werid huh? the only option i have now is to buy a micro sd card and put the rom on that and flash it that way. i really don't want to use odin.

You're just going to give up? Seriously? It's really easy to flash stock fw with Odin. And also easy to root afterwards, to each their own.

What do you mean giving up? I'm going to wait until my microSD card comes and then I will transfer the zip file that way. I don't have time to fiddle with odin. Besides I don't even have a pc, i have bootcamp, which takes a year to boot.

[Q] Galaxy s4 Rooted and Custom Rom Problems

I have a Canadian S4 and rooted using the twrp method and then installed the vigin google play edition rom. Everything worked fine at first when I installed it but i was fiddling around after in twrp and thought i should format the internal storage and start completely fresh and now if I install any rom including my original backup the device will boot up into the system fine for the first time but if the device resets after that it just hangs on the galaxy S4 logo and i have to reboot into recovery and flash again. Any ideas on how i could fix this? Thanks!!!
Try this, in twrp go into advanced wipe and wipe dalvik cache, cache, system, data and android secure. Then flash your nandroid.
I don't have a nandroid I have a twrp backup

That is a nandroid.
Dont use TWRP for the S4
From what I have experience and I believe others have as well, if you used TWRP to format where you had to type yes, you are pretty much screwed trying to get things working properly again. Maybe it is certain phones, sd cards, roms, who knows, but after I typed yes in TWRP to format everything, I could flash a rom but couldnt restart and things were buggy. I had to use odin to flash back to stock, re-root and flash the rom again. Now everything is 190% considering my battery life went from 6 hours to 28 with medium usage.
I have always loved TWRP on my other phones, but for the S4, its more frustration and using with caution than its worth.
Another word of caution, use windows to fix your phone. Im on linux and its too much of a pain in the ass to use odin/heimdall to go back to stock for newbs. On windows I went to stock and rooted again in no time.
Good luck!

After doing that stuff in twrp should I flash right back to my backup of stock touch wiz or straight into the ROM of my choosing? Whenever I would have to reflash I would have to format he internal memory or it wouldn't work
Ya I did the thing where I typed yes... Crap ya its my first time doing all this stuff so you suggest I Re do all of the rooting stuff and then flash my backup I made?

You might have to. I had the same problem today where if the phone rebooted I would just get a black screen. I ended up using Odin with the stock rom, reinstalling twrp and then restoring my backup. I'm pretty sure it was a rom I flashed that caused the initial problem and only Odin would clear things up.

Actually its going back to stock, then rerooting. All I did was follow androidrootz guide here:

After that, motochopper back to get root and followed this guide to install OUDHS recovery:

This worked for me, at least for now. Hope it can help you out.

A couple other notes, to avoid other possible problems, use the original samsung cord when connecting to your computer. Switching USB ports can help if there are transfer or other issues. Its pretty easy and straight forward if everything works out well, but there are so many gawt dayum variables that minor issues can cause problems, though may never manifest.
Hopefully this works and please post some results to help the same in need.

Process System crashs and bootloop

Hi,
I've a big problem with my note 3 (SM-9005).
Root and under Foxhound Diamonds ROM 1.2
All worked perfectly during one month and I don't do any modifcation last month.
Just i flashed Faux's recovery 2 days ago.
After that, Note3 works perfectly. But I had needed to do a reboot. But after reboot I had many problems. PIN code was not query after reboot, I have no signal and after several seconds it's show me "system process doesn't respond" wait or close?. Then the phone reboot and reboot until I removed the battery.
I tried to reflash the rom but I had still the same problem. I also tried to reflash a Samsung firmware with ODIN. Flash was OK, but problem is still there. No signal, and reboot after system process crash...
Any idea? My Knox counter is at 0x1...
Sorry for my poor English.

Because you corrupted your EFS partition flashing either a kernel that didn't like the phone or a ROM that had issues, (Samsung Note 3 is prone to EFS issues currently). And it needed rebuilt. Re-Flashing stock in most cases won't rebuild it but sometimes it does, then you have you use this to fix. No need to go back to stock or wipe or anything, just flash it and voila! fixed

I'm waiting the estimate but I think it will be too expensive. I want try to repair it by myself but they have not brought back the phone yet.

needs to have a custom recovery. But it seems to me that after i had flashed the stock firmware, I didn't have the custom recovery but only the stock... How I can flash the file? Is it possible with the stock recovery?
Grab TWRP or CWM recoveries and ODIN, boot the phone into download mode - when it is off. Load up one of your custom recoveries in to PDA - hit start and let it install. Once it's done your phone will still bootloop, so take the battery out. Put back in - hold volume up, power button and home button - it'll boot into recovery, then just flash your efs fix zip via the install button

I have immediately flashed the recovery, and flash the file you got me. And.... it's running!!!!:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Odin will fix it.
Flash the stock ronin Odin. All your user data will be (sort of) removed.
A skilled user could still recover your user data' but most people won't even know its there.
You will not need the phone's screen to work at any point in the Odin process.

Odin will wipe the data as well as Kies will.
But neither really removes the data. Both just remove the directory structure which makes it easy to sort the data.
To really remove the data you need to overwrite it with new data. That is much more difficult to do without access to the screen on the phone.
You could do it in recovery with the device mounted via usb to a computer. But you generally need to select that in recovery using the touch screen.
You can also push data to the device to overwrite using adb, but its more difficult.
All in all though...unless you have evidence of your participation in a crime on the phone, don't be so worried about it. It will be okay.

Since Google implemented Trim in Android 4.3, it's impossible (as of yet) to recover deleted data. I tried several guides here on XDA on data recovery and none of them work anymore.
See for example this article.

So basically if you delete a file or format your system, the data is really gone.

It wont ever wipe the external sd card
The internal sd card should depend on the tar file and if it formats that partition or not.
I never really paid attention to it myself because I have never had to flash a full stock restore on my S4 so I have no idea what the standard for S4 firmwares is.
The internal data partition though should be wiped with a full stock firmware in odin every single time.

Your photos and other files stays intact as well as the apss ( you may loose some apps internal data ) until factory reset is performed either from stock recovery or from rom itself.

Hi guys,
Yesterday I washed my galaxy s8 ( china SM-G9500) with water to clean the dust, and it prompted the usb port is wet must dry it before using. Today it's not wet any more, and I tried to connect a usb drive with the type-c to type-a OTG adapter to the phone, but it doesn't work. Then I tried to plug in something else like mouse, keyboard and card reader for multiple times, still no any prompt on my phone at all. However, when I try to connect it to my computer with usb cable, everything are working properly. So could the usb port be damaged by the water, or the OTG adapter was broken? Also, are the usb type-c host mode and guest mode using the same pins?
I really need some help. Thank you so much!
I'm having the same issue except I wasn't in water or near it. No one has an answer for my delimua but hopefully someone will answer with a fix.

i found the reason just now. i rooted my galaxy s8 with a modified kernel and magisk, and this results this issue. after restoring firmware to stock with smart switch, everything worked normally. now my problem is solved. if you rooted your phone too, maybe you can backup your data and try to restore.

Thanks is the restore same as flashing with Odin? I never used a smart switch to restore or whatever the non-odin method is.

if you have the stock firmware, you should be able to use odin to flash it too, but i'm not sure how, you can google it. the much easier way is smart switch, you can download it from samsung's official website. and after install it, use the 'more' menu and the first option the do a complete restore by following the instruction.
Okay thanks. I've used Odin before and done several phones over the years. Done it with Odin but still it doesn't work.

then you should do some check about the usb port, for example try to connect your phone to pc. also, if you rooted your phone, too, you should make sure you restored the kernel with odin.
Everything has been restored. USB works with everything else. Just not with the otg.

well, that's weird. maybe you should open another thread to talk about this issue, or just report it to samsung.

I've made a thread like 2 months ago and no one commented except for a guy who doesn't know English at all or how to read. Samsung won't do much since I got my from Europe aka G955F and I live in the states.

ok. These days i'm trying to compile a kernel to fix the issue on my phone. if i can find out the reason, i'll compile one for you too. although i'm not confident enough. so your phone is G955F, right?
and if possible, you could do some check on your otg adapter to make sure it's not a hardware issue.

Yes a G955F. I can do some tests ya. Tell me what to check for. When I plug on the adapter it said " charging connected device" when I go to switch the setting to something else, it'll act like it does then it goes right back to it instantly. I stripped the adapter to fit over an otterbox and it worked for 4 days till I flashed a rom so idk. I've literally done everything except try a different OTG. If I had another device to test this on I'd do it but I don't.

alright, I'm still in trouble for now, because the self-compiled kernel can't boot up, and my phone give a message like 'kernel is not seandroid enforcing'. i have asked in some other threads, and waiting for answers...

That's an easy one. After you flash the kernel wipe cache and dalvik then reboot. If it still persists, wipe dalvik and cache then flash super user in twrp and reboot.

I'm 80% sure yes. On my s7 active that is what I had to do when I flashed a kernel or rooted for the first time. You may also try the zip that disables the protection in recovery. I forgot the actual name. To the point, I've had a few devices and that was my remody to fix em. Worth a try at least

okay, i'll give it a try, although i have taken some time to restore my phone from previous fault just now. and maybe i'll need to do that once again soon...
I tried it just now, erasing dalvik cache, /cache or /data... anything possible, but sadly, it's no effect in my case.
I believe this is a compile-time problem, and maybe the solution is edit makefile to change some kernel options, or apply some kind of patch to the kernel source. that will fool the SeAndroid security check to make the kernel bootable. It's possible only a simple modification, but i have no idea how.
right now, i'm going to do a complete restore again to make my phone work. i'm really not sure if i can do this, or if i can help. the only thing i could do for now is waiting for someone's hints. so let's hope everything will go well.
anyway, thanks for your advice.

You weren't suppose to wipe data as u would a full wipe. Only dalvik and cache. Install a rom like batman rom and then flash your kernel. It should take. If your on stock its tricky.
