lost my x10 galaxy s next?? - Galaxy S I9000 General

hi
I lost my se x10 and need a new phone!
Are you guys happy with the galaxu s??

OK this is the deal, it's great hardware mixed with some crap software. It takes some extra effort to get it running right and then you will be waiting for september to hopefully get new gps drivers because it sucks right now. If you are in the US you have some other options like the EVO or the new Droid, in the EU it will be hard to find anything as good as the sgs until the Desire HD comes out.
Hope that helps.

how is android 2.1 crap?

The gps issue sounds like its affecting many (most?) Units but mine us working great. Its nearly as accurate as my handheld gamin which is a great unit.
I'm happy with the phone as is my wife who thought she'd be with apple to the grave.

Lol i have also moved from the x10, and i have to agree with you the sgs is an excellent phone.

if you live in the UK or some where not Canada, Africa, or USA, then you might end up with a bad GPS coverage, because you got too many Satellite choices to lock on to.
if you live in Canada, USA, or Africa, then it works perfectly

Great hardware with crap software...hmmm...sounds like the X10, not the GS! I am so glad that I sold my X10.

Welcome to our family!
I am also lost my X10.
I bought my SGS last month when it launched here(india).
I love very much my SGS. For all issues told by others about SGS we can find answers/fixes in this forum.
Community shows somw good strength........
Thanks for the developers.
I strongly recommend SGS.
-G

I sold my iPhone 3GS, and was wanting to buy a Xperia X10, SGS or iPhone 4.
I bought the SGS and now I can say that is the best phone I could had!
Don't forget that Froyo is coming!
And next, the rumored Android 3.0. The SGS has the hardwares enought to run it.

Which Android Device are you planning to get?

With the announcement of many new Android phones, I'm a bit torn on which to get. I'm just curious where everyone else is headed.
I think I'll be making the switch from WM (had a Touch pro) to an Android based phone. I'm leaning heavily towards the Xperia X10.
How about you guys?
Edit:
This may not be the right spot to put this thread, but I don't think it fit into the others that well. Please move this as seen fit.

Hehe, I've just sold my HD2 for the poor OS.
I've dreamed an HD2 device with Android!
I've bought an HTC Desire. I'll receive it in a mounth. Now I'm with my OLD GOOD Nokia 6630 LOL!
So far, if everything is 100% okay with the X10, the only drawback I see to owning one is that it won't be supported by the XDA community.
Anyone else looking at this phone?
i was expecting the new htc phones to buy a new phone and i 'm glad i did waited. i am VERY attracted to HTC Legend cause of its style and design but i want the performance of desire too. if there is a gap in price between them i will go for legend else it's desire.
Read my comparison of the two and tell me any difference there is in bewtween these two phones!!!
i want the desire!!!
but im on verizon..ugh
imhoping verizon gets a new NICER looking phone then the droid
imo its so ugly haha

How to get your money back

Ok now with the release of froyo im kind of regretting my purchase. I also bought it sort of over priced. Does anyone know any way to return it and get your money back? Ive had it for around a month.
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
It does what the box says its meant to do and that hasn't changed since you bought it. You can't get a refund on something you bought just because some other company brought out a different product that you like better.
Sell it on eBay, you'll get most of your money back.

I hear you buddy. I've purchased the nexus one after about 1 month of owning the x10. I too believe I made the wrong choice. I'm probably going to sell the x10 after 2.1 update pedigree I need the money.

There won't be root on the X10 anytime soon or ever. The X10 isn't a popular device means less People work on it to archive Root. SE even doesn't care to provide us with up to date updates. 2.1 in Q4 , common :-D
I also going to sell my X10 , the Hardware isn't so good as i thought and the lack of updates + the non ability of having Root does the rest.
it seems we are in about the exact same position. how is your experience of the n1?
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Sell it on ebay.
I hate saying the same thing in every thread but you knew froyo was coming to the N1 soon and that the x10 wouldn't get a serious update for a long time.
I had the N1 on 2.1 and returned it. No regrets. It was a fast phone (i hate laggy phones) but other than that I wasn't as impressed as I wanted to be. 2.2 is nice with flash but it's not making me run back to the N1.
can anyone tell me the difference between getting 2.2 through se vs through root? it feels like 2.2 from se is out of the question.
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Through root, it's a custom made ROM, so whoever developed it can put whatever features in it. For example, they can make it look like HTC's SenseUI, and whichever version of Android they want.
Have faith, I would love android without sense and all that crap. 2.2 just like N1 would be great. I'm hoping for root in a couple of weeks or I'll probably sell my X10 too... But it's the most beautiful phone out there, miles and miles prettier than Desire and Nexus one put together my friends have both so I've tried both.

SE hasn't announced 2.2, only 2.1. So for us x10 users, right now we can only dream of 2.2.

IF the x10 ever get rooted, it will become a much superior phone. I can not believe the difference in speed just between a 2.1 n1 compared to the x10. Everything was as smooth as silk and not once will you experience any lag and dropped frames. Froyo n1 is another story though, the horsepower of the phone is just improved by many multitude and it renders websites or flash videos much better than my netbook ever could. When I first got the x10, I almost went back to my iPhone 3gs because of how sluggish the phone was, but I decided to give Android a 3rd chance and bought myself a n1. 3rd time is indeed the charm, and that phone is everything I've ever wanted from a cellphone. In conclusion, if you guys wait for 2.1, the x10 will be an awesome phone compared to what it is now, but if you are not willing to wait that long, purchasing the Nexus one would make a great decision.
Regardless, even with the update for x10, its users will still want the other update that brings even better performance.
So in the short and long run x10 users will be hoping and waiting for updates while other phones won't have to hope or wait thatong for improvements.

I've been wrestling with the idea of returning this too. However the first time i went to sell it. They annouced two updates one of them was should have been released by now, the other was set for Q4.
I kept hold of it thinking that they would come good, but the more and more I have it now the less I believe that that will be the case.
With all the comments on the blog and the petition, I think they may announce all the required bug fixes and android updates, with multitouch on the X10's successor.
The X10's rep is not good at the mo and im not sure that they will be able to recover it.

There are plenty of reasons to own an X10. However I would read a construtive list of its short comings before you purchase.
If you bought the X10 based on its advertised spec you may be disappointed
when you come to use it.
The software features it boasts are not quite up to par in certain areas.
I also think coming from a HTC who are pro's in the android Device Market, You will be more critical of this device. HTC have had time to perfect Sense for there handsets.
If you were prepared to wait though the proposed updates may change this device completely.
Thanks for the feedback. My desire is working brilliantly and very happy with it, the main reason I'm considering x10 is because I'm getting it for £210 only used 4 few days. Is that a good price? This will be sort of backup handset.

Is the Hero worth buying now?

SO.. as the title says... is the Hero worth buying now?
Also, I`ve read here about some problems with the touch screen that suddenly appear... is that a general issue or just some isolated incidents?
The phone is over a year old now, the CPU is a generation older than the other Android devices with the 1GHz Snapdragon processor. I'm sure the phone manufacturers are preparing the next generation devices for later in the year - making those phones obsolete.
If you're after a cheap device then you should be able to get a Hero second hand for a decent price. If you're willing to root and try new ROMs then there is still a decent community for the Hero - otherwise you'll be stuck on Android 2.1 if you stick with the official updates. The Hero is highly unlikely to get any more updates from HTC.
If your budget allows for a newer phone, then you'd be better off getting a more powerful Android device.
Thanks, I too think that it`s a little old, but it has a fairly good price, almost the same as Wildfire here, where I live, but that qvga screen on the Wildfire is a let down for me.
Alex~ is bang on, it is cheap, and the community on here is great, so if your gona be using custom roms then go for it. But I wouldn't like to say how many devs will still bother with us after Xmas.
If you can put up ur budget, do that.

Tru, there are better phones available if buying new, but it's more than competent if second hand.
I'll be about till May 2011 with my hero anyway, as my contract expires then. And even then, the hero is popular enough to merit continued support i reckin.
Hi I just bought one off eBay about a month old for £150 took a bit time to root and get used to Android, but worth it and its ok for price with lots of features. Although I think I now should have gone for HTC Legend?

Not to mention that there is no other Android phone with as cool appearance as that of a black Hero (the european version, not the US Sprint's ugly cousin). I held the Desire in my hands and played with it a bit, but although it was blazingly fast, it didn't strike me as something I'd want.
What I will want next year is a Hero-shaped phone with modern hardware.
Would not recommend ebay.
Three are selling reconditioned £159.99 with £10 credit and can be unlocked from ebay for £6.50. Also £12 cashback if you go through Quidco.
Hope this helps.
Well the community for it is quite huge. Ofc it will slim when others move to newer phones, but I guess there are folks who got a 2 year contract (me being one of them, hehe )

they've released the htc wildfire which is very much just a repackaged hero... i have no idea why they did it. it lacks all the style and class of the hero and only has an fm radio to make up for it.
Well if you root your Hero and overclock it, it pretty much becomes a Legend. Without the better screen and slimer profile. I want the Desire but got the HTC Hero this year because it just looked awesome (unfortunately Canadian carriers screw you over with 3 year contracts instead of two ) but I do love my Hero as it is my first smart phone and I love the 'chin'.
It is a matter of preference so the choice in the end is yours, but we do have Feeyo .
The design really stands out yea. People are always like "hey, what kind of phone is that?" while my brother gets none and has a desire

I get that a bit. Although the only smartphone that really has any recognition here in NZ is the iPhone. I imported my phone as we don't even have a decent range of Android phones (at reasonable prices). I mean... we JUST got the Nexus One which Google just stopped selling? lol.
But I only recently got my hero (a month ago now?) and i'm happy with my purchase. I mean... there's other purchases that could be had. I almost got a Milestone but the keyboard really put me off (played with my mates', it was a terrible keyboard.. the buttons are so stiff it isn't funny). I mean... I noticed a price drop of the Milestone shortly after I purchased my Hero but.. Eh, I can't complain. Bigger screen/higher res would've been nice though. Specs aren't really much more to write home about though.
Hero was reasonably priced, looks good, performs well enough. My only real annoyances about it are: No official Froyo, smaller screen/lower-resolution than others, can't run some newer games which i probably wouldn't play much anyway.
I'll probably upgrade next year when I have lots of money

The Galaxy S was the first smartphone I bought and it's a great phone. Swype is one of THE best apps I've ever used and I dearly wish it was available on the Wildfire as typing this reply with a bog-standard keyboard is a major PITA.
I principally bought the Galaxy S because it was the biggest screen on the market at the time and watching videos on a small screen blows. Of course, there are now phones with bigger screens, so I've upgraded to the Nexus S. Another key factor in my upgrade decision was that Samsung took a long time to upgrade the Galaxy S from Eclair to Froyo and I didn't want to wait for them to upgrade it to Gingerbread so I bought the Nexus S. AFAIK, to date Samsung have no plans to upgrade the Galaxy S to Gingerbread.
So I suggest you factor this in to your purchase decision and try and really focus on what you're looking for in a smartphone.
I've also just discovered the world of custom ROMs so now I find I'm going to sell my Galaxy S (and possibly my Nexus S - while the secondhand prices are still high) as I'm enjoying my (small and thin) Wildfire + custom ROMs so much that I hardly ever use the other two phones.
So my advice to you is to seriously think about what it really is you like about the hardware. As the software you can change.

So in light of the following news are HTC going to bring out something special or just quietly dye by the way side?

Bear in mind the current fiasco with ICS and the Desire HD.
So are you going to jump the HTC ship?
Ya well, the one series was a miss with consumers at large ,can't imagine what would have happened if the one x for example had sd card storage and a battery access
We can only hope they die a quick but painful death.
... unless they release ics source code then i don't care what they do.

I am already planning my jump over to Samsung rightly or wrongly, but they are talking about launching JB on the S3 and even the S2 in the very near future! And from what I have seen they seem to deliver what they say!
Well I wouldn't want them to die, afterall competition is always good, however I've decided that my DHD shall be my last HTC phone after all that has happened. I'm contemplating on waiting for the next Google phone, immediate updates and a bugless AOSP experience, what else could one ask for?
That is what you get when you mess with all the HTC Desire HD owners!!! Not releasing ICS for their most sold phone and telling their costumers lies about HTC Desire HD performance. And the same with HTC Desire.

Agreed, I cant believe they would release such a retarded phone and a clear attempt to copy the iPhone business model.
I'm due upgrade now but think ill just stick with my DHD.
They should have concentrated all efforts on savage battery life combined with expansion of mem.
That is the general consensus I am feeling form this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396842
It’s a shame that a company with a lot of promise has now just peed of its fan base and almost washed their hand of them.
If you look at the number of ROMs in the development thread you can see that people pretty much rooted their HTC Desire HD as soon as they got them as the hardware far out preformed the software that was loaded and any potential update (although we all knew these wouldn’t come to light! lol )

Don't forget Samsung is from South Korea, so why keep spending money on SK if you know that "everyone" in SK has a Samsung phone :silly:
I hope they won't cancel the ICS update for developers. They had the same problem with Gingerbread update for the Desire.
They never released it as an OTA update, but they released it for developers.
So let's hope they do the same with Desire HD (in the future).
About One-series. It's indeed a sad story, but I think why most people didn't bought the One-phones was because most of them were probably waiting to see the Galaxy SIII and it seems that the SIII is the number one choice now for lots of Android users.
That or the New Galaxy Nexus (fingers crossed it won’t be produced by HTC) that will ruin the Nexus name IMO

Why would HTC ruin it? I like HTC's hardware
1 months ago I planned to buy the One X along with one of my best friends and I almost sell my DHD (it even already entered the "For Sale" thread in one of Indonesia's largest community forum). But after I read so much informations from early adopter of One X about how bad is the HTC's quality control over One X hardware productions I hold my decisions to upgrade because I don't wanna spend my time dealing with HTC service center.

Tierd of htc, they were the best option when i bought my dhd. The new one series cant beat s3 imo. Im going for nexus next, nothing beats (not even s3) the new android stock interface.
