[Q] Setting up a VPN that my xoom can access.

I want to set up a VPN at home that my xoom can access. I tried a simple PPTP with dd-wrt but I can't seem to access or ping anything, even though it connects. I want to do this so I don't have to forward SSH, RDP, and other ports that expose my stuff to the outside world.
At home I am running a DD-WRT gateway with a linux server as well as a Windows Server 2008 VM behind the gateway, any could host the VPN service.
I don't need instructions on how to set up the VPN, but advice on what is compatible with android's built in VPN support.

The windows vpn service works fine for me

I was under the impression I needed to set up a domain to use the included windows VPN service, and I wasn't looking to set up a domain.
Is this an incorrect assumption?

Here's a link to getting OpenVPN working. Must admit it looks like it's not for everyone.

That was not necessary for me. If it is a requirement, it is specific to Windows Server edition

I have a Windows PPTP VPN that my Xoom can connect to. You do not need to set up a domain.
Unfortunately there is a bug in Android that makes it lose connection to the VPN after a few minutes/seconds.

I just bypass androids native VPN and use Neo Router free. Available in the market. You just set up a Neo server on the computer you want to control and use the android app to open an encrypted connection to that computer. You can set up the app to forward any ports to the computer running the server. Works well. Right now im running splashtop remote and plex using it so i dont have to port forward the ports for those apps in my router.

Thanks for all the input. I am working on OpenVPN. I almost have it working (I already have my router set up for OpenVPN, just didn't know I could use it).

Working Vnc client for Win 7 64 bit in Honycomb?

I have tried almost every vnc client, from pro to regular to work in my Transformer without any luck!
I had VNC viewer working fine in my Desire HD alsaw using win 7 64..but with the transformer and honycomb nothing works!!!!!

Strange. On my tablet every one I tried worked! You could also try RDP clients, they should be faster. Maybe it's something with your firewall? I had a problem with that - connecting to DRP rebooted my PC.

I'm using PocketCloud. Works perfectly from any internet connection on my TF.
edit: I am using RDP too.

Are we talking about W7 64 edition?
i cant get any damn app to work with it..
its not firewall.. same apps works on my DHD

Yea I'm using 64-bit and 32-bit.
edit: Are you using 3G on your Desire? Your TF is going through WiFi i take it. Could be the firewall in your router. Mine supports UPnP, so I didn't have to open any ports for RDP.

1) What VNC server software are you using on the Windows 7 64bit host?
2) Are you on the same physical network and same subnet in that network?
3) On the Windows 7 host, are you using the "Work", "Home group" or "Public" networks?
4) Are you using Windows firewall or a third party firewall, like Norton or McAffe?
Sorry, no answers, but these might poke you into the answer.

tightvnc on the machine, androidvnc on the tab, connectbot for ssh tunnel, no issues.

PocketCloud doesn't require you be on the same local network, so I know that can't be stopping it.
Did you check out PocketCloud's Troubleshooting section, they have some good FAQs about it.

3: Its not firewall.. IM Sure 100%
4: i have 2 desire HDs, and both can get in..
5: with One of the Transformer apps remote desctop i can see that it contacts the windows.. but still no use

My data connection. Sometimes it won't let me access sites like Facebook. So I need HTTP instead of https

The best way to do it is install something like squid and ssh on a computer you have at home them tunnel in with ssh and forward a local port to the squid proxy server at home. That's what i used to do to get around content filters at libraries so i could get on Facebook and stuff. You can get all the stuff you need as portable apps on a usb drive.
The easiest way, though, is to just enable a vpn server on your router or computer and use the built in vpn functions on android to route all traffic through the tunnel. The big problem with that is that you cannot use it on an untrusted device because it's like connecting it directly to your home network. Any worms on it can infect any computer at home.
If you need step by step instructions I'd be happy to help with either method, but I'll need to know more specifics about your home setup. If you have a router that supports dd-wrt, there is a great guide to the vpn method in this same forum.

How can I turn a Windows 2003 Server into a proxy host?

It's Windows Server 2003 Server 64 bit. How can I make this a proxy I can access on other computers? I can't turn it into a VPN because it says that I only have one NIC and if I try to get around that by using customized instead of simple VPN, the RRAS service doesnt start with error 0x2. I can't use the SFC command because it says that I am not an administrator and I am as well as running it as admin. What can I do to solve any problem?

You could always install Cygwin and do a SSH server.

I can't seem to find a way to set this up on the server side. I know that my firewall is turned off but when attempting to connect to it, it only shows a blank DOS windows or command prompt with a green curser. When doing this from my unhindered internet at home (no webpages blocked, which is what I am trying to bypass) it allows me to login but not share the internet connection. Would you like to point me to a decent tutorial? Sorry for taking up your time with my stupid questions and problems.

It doesn't do anything. It says connection refused at client side. With BetVise ssh running, it doesnt help, but it does let me login.

Server 2012 VPN Login script?

Hello guys.
i have been trying to configure my windows server 2012 to an vpn server.
that worked.
however i want to launch a script or popup or something like that after some user has logged into my vpn connection.
i have tried to google but all i found was not good enough information for what i want.
does anyone has an idea?

You can try this...you can configure it to get different options....its for windows server 2008 but the procedure is the same on the server 2012 as I think..

However.
It kinda works butt.
Instead off openening the program on the users pc.
It opens the program on my server.
Do you have any other idea?
Pc is not in a domain.

To launch a program on the user PC when it connects instantly to the VPN, I think you need a virus...

No because a virus isnt something that is well "save"
