New JH2 official firmware upgrade Firmware in Canada i9000m Bell. - Galaxy S I9000 General

Kies tonight said there was an update for my phone current JG9 to a new firmware JH2..This might fix the 3 button combo for people that have issues. as the recovery screen is a bit different. give your a warning now that you have entered the system menu. This is a full flash so remember to backup everything.

Someone that can't get into recovery should try this update..

it sounds promising!
i wish i could give you the result but since my sgs can go into download mode....

if you use kies it should. even if the 3 combo does not work.

well I meant I can't tell you whether this new firmware can fix download mode issue since mine can go into that mode using 3 buttons
But I wonder if it is still possible to upgrade mine becuase I flashed it with European rom and it is now I9000! All Bell bs apps are gone and even the boot screen shows i9000 haha

Should be able to flash to UGJG8 and then do the update via Kies.
I'm installing it now over JG9. Will be interesting to see if the RyanZA lagfix lives through the process. This is just an update, not a re-flash.
Notice also that the firmware is JH2, same last three as the "leaked" Captivate firmware that showed up on samsung-firmwares.com. The Captivate people have been pretty happy with it.

And it's not just an update, it's a full flash.
Be sure you back your **** up before doing this.

will be trying this out shortly, it's complaining that my battery isn't charged enough at 75% though. Will report back although I already have recovery mode.

lol wow 75% and complains it is not enough?

I'm not getting any lag with this update... i'm really liking it.. and I checked the SPL is different. a newer version.. but it does have the recovery screen but its a new version with a little warning when you go into it.

Thats odd it let me flash and my battery was at 40% and I didn't get a warning.

you know what will be the next question eh?......
"does that fix the GPS problem?"
i sincerly don't care, but the bunch of people that has been complaining about it, will biatch about that for sure.
personally both GPS, actually now 3 SGS i've tested it on, have been working great.

Here's a weird one for ya.
My IMEI SV changed from 03 to 04

So has anyone (without the download mode) tried the flash yet?
Does the FW somehow enable it again?
To be honest, the ideal solution would be a software hack that can somehow enable the 850 band and disable the 900 band so we can all stop dealing with this bell ****

hehe. i lucked out and got 2 phones on the first day. the 3 button sequence works on them both and the gps is reasonably accurate (compared to my garmin gpsmap60). i'm just hoping this update doesn't screw with anything that's working for me

sorry for goin off-topic but i have a queastion!
My europeanized(!) Bell sgs won't come back to i9000m even I flashed it with JG8 from Samsung-firmwars.com. Given the JG8 file only contained PDA file (no CSC, no MODEM), I flashed CSC and MODEM with those from JM2 and JM5, and my sgs still recognizes itself as GT-I9000, not I9000M... Is there any way to fix this? I can't find Canadian CSC version anywhere on the web.

Well, I think the problem was related to my Windows 7 desktop and instead am trying it on a Windows XP laptop, but referring to the i9000m not coming back to the proper form, is it due to the fact that we shipped with stock JG9 and are now updating to JH2 never having touched JG8?

Flash back to JG8, but use PDA only. It's an all-in-one, if you look inside the archive there are modem and CSC files in it. You did a flash within a flash.

OMG that explains why it took SOOOO long to reboot the phone..double flashing LOL
Thank you very much Croak

I did the update from UGJG9 and everything went fine. Seems faster and smoother. However, protected apps are no longer showing in the market.
Can someone else verify if Tapatalk Pro is showing for them or not? It has disappeared for me.

[HOWTO] [REF] Flash official JPM Froyo 2.2 using KIES

UPDATE: Samsung seems to have pulled the update from their servers. I recommend using Odin to upgrade to JPM/JP6 instead of the method in this tutorial.
LOOK at what kies offers you before flashing if it's not JPM/JP6 then its not the froyo rom described in this thread.
Since some of the threads are buried and out of date I figured I would post this once more. Please read the whole post before flashing it can save you from a lot of hassles later.
Make sure your phone and network uses the same bands as this rom. In other words don't flash this on a US device that needs the 850 band since this rom is for europe.
****If your phone does not have a working 3 button recovery mode or if you don't know what that is then visit this link for more information before flashing your device****
I don't know if this is safe on branded, carrier locked devices.
This should be obvious but backup anything you don't want to lose.
First uninstall all lagfixes
Start up kies and connect your phone. Wait till kies recognizes the sgs.
Go to firmware upgrade.
If it doesn't report a JPM/JP6 upgrade close the upgrade window but do not close kies!
Go to windows start > run > and type "regedit"
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Samsung/Kies/DeviceDB/
You will probably see a bunch of numbered keys (they look like folders) Find the key/folder that has strings that match your current firmware. So if you are on JPK look for that in the keys. If you have more than one galaxy S (it can happen) then match the imei with the phone you want to upgrade.
Change the following values so they look like this:
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEE"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
No go back to kies and click on firmware upgrade again. You should now see the JPM upgrade.
Other info:
First boot can take a while so let it sit for a couple minutes while you stare at that glowing S
Doing this will not change your product code.
3 button recovery mode still works.
This won't wipe your phone's apps, settings, messages or SD card. (at least not for me coming from jpk)
It doesn't matter what firmware you are on we are just using the JF3 value to fool kies.
You will lose root if you were rooted. New root by Chainfire can be found here.
If kies crashed while extracting the firmware then try an older version of kies. If kies sees the update but still refuses to flash then try running kies as an administrator.
If your phone really hangs for more than 5 minutes at first boot then something probably went wrong. In that case start up in 3 button recovery mode and do a factory reset. Dont blame the registry hack, its kies that's the problem. As always flash at your own risk
If your android market is missing after flashing read the following thread for a solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810230
If the phone flashed ok but the rom doesn't run properly, force closes etc, then you can try entering 3 button recovery mode and doing a clear cache and a factory reset. Doing this will wipe your phone.
If you have lost your data connection after flashing you may have to re-enter your APN settings. Your can find this information on your carrier's website.

Kies might not be able to modify a different filesystem than RFS. So if your lagfix for example uses ext4 then that could be a problem.
All I have done is change the firmware code and I am being offered JPM. So do you really need to change the country code as well?
I cant get this to work, been trying for the last 20 mins. It detects the firmware, starts downloading but crashes on "decyrpting files" every time. Tried on two different pc, one with WinXP 32 and one with Win7 64.
Is this just Kies being crap again? Or am I doing something wrong?
Last question. Does your 3 button recovery still work ?

Strange, what version of kies are you using? See if there is an update. I'm on win7 64 and have no problems. I have "run as admin" checked in the executable but i doubt that makes a difference.

I'm on an older version: 1.5.1.10074_2 so I doubt that's the issue.
So the same thing is happening on different pc's? All I can think of is that you could try doing a factory reset but that will wipe all your data. You removed any lagfixes right?
hi, first of all a big thanks for the easy walkthrough (think allot of people were wanting this) just a few questions, have you applied the lagfix after the firmware update or does it not really need it??
if you did apply the lagfix, any chance you could let us know how you done that? (or just link me to the relevant guide)
ill be trying to apply the new firmware tonight, hopefully kies recognises my phone!
also is this ok to do for branded 8gb vodafone devices??
What happens if I can't remember what lagfix I used... Yes I know it was a stupid mistake :/

Yeah exactly the same thing, it starts downloadingand gets about 3 quarters of the way along the progress bar, then it changes from downloading files to decrypting files. Straight away the updater crashes and windows says the program is not responding, only option is to close. Dont understand it.
Is this just me guys?
I do have another machine up stairs that has an older version of kies on it, guess I could try that.
Just getting a bit worried that it's kies, and I wont be able to update to anything...god kies is pants.
You should probably add informations about band and frequency so that someone would check it before replacing it with a firmware based on different settings and be left with no data and such

Did you remove any lagfixes? It sounds like kies cant extract the files on the phone. You could also try a factory reset if you don't mind losing your data.
I currently have a i9000m on 2.1 (with unlock, root, and lagfix).
I currently have lagfix disabled with the "disable lagfix" method.
If I were to upgrade to Froyo 2.2, will it update both the Firmware and the Kernel?
(I want to get rid of lagfix permanently).

I have not applied another lagfix yet, first I need root access.
Sorry I'm not sure about branded devices especially if they are carrier locked.
It was kies, just tried on a third Win7 pc but this one has kies version 1.5.1.10074_45 installed and its gone through the upgrade without crashing....so far.
Edit: Yep thats worked, I'd best not upgrade this version of kies!

Safe way to load Froyo on i9000m Bell Mobility Galaxy's

Okay, so after corrupting my SD card over 12 times and replacing my phone twice I think I have found the answer.
I strongly believe that the reason we get faced with the SD corruption (The ones where it is fixable by a software reset at the service center) on our i9000m's is because we repart while flashing.
The 512,513,903 pit files might be okay on international models, but I suspect that the Canadian version uses some other partition structure.
So to keep it short here is a successful method to install froyo on the i9000m. I have flashed to froyo using this method and have been using it for over 20 days now without issues.
Make sure you get a brand new phone before flashing. If you have reparted using odin this might be useless.
Installation Steps:
1. Make sure your phone is rooted (You can root via OCLF in the market)
2. Download Rom manager and install Clockworkmod recovery (Instructions can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734166&highlight=clockwork)
3. Install Doc's froyo rom from here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703)
Once flashed it should work fine. When the phone starts make sure you first see the I9000M screen and then it switches to the I9000 screen and then the Galaxy and then into Froyo.
I have not tried just flashing froyo using ODIN without re-parting (Maintaining factory partitions). In theory it should work, if anyone tries it let us know.
P.S. I use Doc's rom as it allows to flash via clockwork. I am not endorsing this in any way.
I have personally flashed dozens of things through Odin with 512 and 803 pit, as well as tons of things through zip's like Doc's, with absolutely no problems on my Bell I9000M 16GB.
**Knocks on wood**
Do you lose your 850 Band doing it by this method. Please check by Activating WiFi while in your service menu (*#*#0011#*#*). You will see when you switch over from WiFi to 3G you Band should drop down to 850 from 1900.

Can you give more information on what happened.
Original ROM?
Froyo Version tried to flash to?
Which SGS ei (gt-i9000m or gt-i9000)?
I've re-partitioned in ODIN by flashing back to JH2 (2.1), then use Doc's ROM to 2.2. What should I do to enable 850Mhz? I already added WCDMA850 in *#2263#

I am an Indian & have an Asian 16GB SGS. Every time & have this urge to FLASH, I just pick the pit file, nothing else, check re-partition, let the phone reboot, remove battery, re-insert, go back to download & re flash.
Me n 2 friends bought it together from same bell store 3 months ago.
Friend 1 :
On his 2nd sgs.
Got it replaced because internal sd got corrupted.
He was on jpk w/ repartition done
Friend 2 :
Still on his original sgs.
Stock + voodoo (aka never used odin)
Me:
On my 3rd sgs (if u count replacing the pcb as a new phone)
First one was stock + voodoo (stock was flashed using repartition through odin)
Second one was jpk w/ repartition
Third one im running with stock + voodoo (aka following friend #2's approach)
Hope tht helps :\

Most of the time what I do is use Odin 1.3 Use an 803 PIT re-partition not checked at the same time select the PDA Phone and CSC since your 900MHz you should not have a problem using the GT-i9000-CSC-Multi-XXXXX.tar.md5 for CSC and the MODEM_i9000XXJPK.tar.md5 for Phone and your PDA will be JPM/JP6 or whatever rom you wish to install

Funny thing is I'm on 3rd SGS now too my first one I went crazy on Flashing everything as I had no problems with anything I did to it until JPM/JP6 I bought another SGS while I sent in the other one as a replacement for mine and as a gift for my wife after I get my SGS back from bell. The one I got for my wife died within 6 hours of flashing ROM's I use to have the 850MHz band on my original SGS throughout the whole flashing process but I couldn't repeat it with my wife's SGS. Now since I've buggered hers once already I'm now scared to do anything with this one. Although I still have the DOA warranty on it. I'm I crazy??? Probably more confused as I spent a lot of time reading on these forums and don't have an answer to what went wrong...
I have the Captivate and my girl has the I9000M. I am definitely not new in flashing, just find it very interesting that after flashing Doc's V6, the Bell APN still remained and the boot screen still has I9000M.
Did Bell do something to the phone to prevent people modding it?
So far, my gf didn't complain about corrupting SD. She got hers like 3 weeks ago and the battery production date is Oct 2010. The phone even has 3 button download mode working out of the box.
Okay so with all the excitement and multiple upgrades of docs rom I made a boo boo.
I flashed a wrong kernel (BLN) using CWM and the phone would not start and could not get into CWM. So I did a flash to UGJG8 and then restored to dock.
Things would work fine for a few hours and then I would get errors, my internal SD card was intact, however my internal available memory was 0. I repeated this process with the same issue, finally got fedup and reparteed with the 512 and it all worked for a few hours and then internal and external all said unavailable.
Now when I boot It goes to the 19000 screen and then shuts off.
However, when I load UGJG8 with my external SD it boots to android and none of the SD cards are available, but internal available says 1.85.
I am trying different things as I want to try and figure out whats going on, any suggestions?
P.S. I strongly believe it has something to do with odin and/or pit files, i.e. software fix.

Yup, I know it is the internal SD card corruption.
Ohh well.... back to the bell store
P.S. I want to highlight that all of this started once I used odin, till then I was using froyo for over a month without any issues. now it might be a coincidence but I dont think so!
I won't use odin if I don't have to. Il use cw instead

Modem.BIN

OOPS! I messed up in odin when flashing my first rom, with my new $200 phone my dad bought me two days ago. As you can imagine I am extremely sad, and I need some help. Anyways, I think I did something in Odin that messed up my modem.bin, which explains why i have a circle with a line throught it on my notification bar where the signal status would usually be. So, I thought, the DJ05 update has modem.tar, and I flashed that with Odin, but I still have that same circle with a line through it. Plz Help
Flash in PDA. Not phone.
Good luck.

yes, if you are lucky PDA will work... Try it and if it doesn't work, there are other things you can do.
But if you're not going to read and respond to this thread. I'm just wasting my time typing this out for you.

Thats what I've been doing, I flashed it in PDA before flashing the rest of DJ05. I have read, and Im not just posting this without looking.

Edit:
Do I need a PIT file to flash the modem, because I haven't been using one.
No, you don't need a PIT file with the modem. What did you flash initially that started this problem? There may not be anything you can do.
Sign up for the extra insurance. Step on your phone, pay the $80 deductible and get a new phone. Cancel insurance.
Well, I rooted it, installed clockwork mod, and then the SuperClean Rom. Then I decided to go back to my Nandroid backup, but that was unsuccesful so I went to do something in Odin (I think I was trying to restore to DJ05 again). Please tell me all of my options. Im already extremely upset, and the phone was bought off Ebay N.I.B so there is no option of that insurance.
Do you know exactly what it was that you flashed via Odin and how you did it? Was it something in this forum, another forum? Was it something for the Telus Fascinate? Did you use the phone button or pda button when flashing?
To be honest, I really cant remember what I was flashing, I as probabley trying to re-install DI01. It wasn't anything from Telus or the Vibrant, it was specifically for Verizon. And I always did it in PDA. Except today I flashed the DJ05 modem.tar using phone. Hope thats not bad.

If you flashed via the Phone button at any point, your phone is no longer usable or fixable unless someone has found a fix that I haven't seen yet. Whether the problem started before you used the phone button or not, using the phone button pretty much guaranteed there is no way to fix it.

Right now Im going to Odin restore DI01 stock to my Fascinate and then try and OTA update via Wi-Fi if that is possible.
You can't update OTA via wifi... That contradicts itself. And if you are flashing to stock DI01, what are you hoping to update to? DL09 isn't available yet.
Have you tried flashing the all in one di01 by adrynalyne? That may be you only option.
Also, samsung gives a warranty, you might be able to take it to vzw in worst case scenario.

Greetings community,
So as the title says i wanna upgrade (like everyone else)
Not cause i wanna get the latest but some features i really want and samsungs promised update is taking to long.
been using Eclair for about 2 months now.
Anyways so as any good researched you first read and collect all possible info.
Wich i did. So i've read to this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880
Wich i compared to all others and alot of positive reactions on this.
Now i've already rooted the phone and just with that i had issues had to try a few rooting methods before i got it to work.
So as anyone figures i wanna be prepared to brick my phone
Anyways i have a Galaxy 3 i5801 from mobistar (fail for belgium)
With following FW
PDA: I5800XXJJ3
Phone:I5800XXJH1
CSC: I5800MSTJJ
So i was already looking for a rom with this FW but no luck( this incase i screw up )
Then searched on how to create your own rom to create it of what my phone is now again failsafe if i screw it up or the other FW don't work.
So yeah i already made a backup of the known /efs folder.
So i'm fully reset prepared for it but i wanna be able to place my original rom back. How to do it? create it? find it ?
Much appreciated for any tips.
PS: Yes i know failing to update is your own fault but i really need the possible features that i get from Froyo so yeah. I don't care if it fails then i just confirmed that i'm not meant to own this phone
Cheers,
Sleeper
fist off, are you sure your phone is i5801? your firmware says i5800.
Ok, now then. There is a way to minimize, or, possibly, to completely remove, any permanent risk. Dont flash boot files. If the firmware comes as one package remove the boot files and you have almost no permanent risk. What can happen is that you soft brick your phone. However, if you soft brick your phone you can enter download mode and try reflashing the same firmware or go back to firmware you know has worked, or try some other firmware.
other than that, I dont really have anything much to add
First of all thanks for the quick response.
Yeah i was in doubt if it was I5800 or the I5801 both are same yet not according the the rooting issues i had.
So i popped the battery out and it said i5801. Also if i'm not mistaken the i5801 is the refreshed look/stylish look of the i5800. (don't shoot me if i'm wrong )
Also the fact that i'm student on this subject i was already looking around to the part about removing the boot files.
I just downloaded I5800XXJPF FW looked inside and hoped to find a simple .boot folder but guess not.
Or does it just mean when using Odin don't input the new bootloader?
And is it enough to backup /efs folder or do i need to backup more stuff (i know that i'l loose apps so no issues there)
And one final question. If i do manage to soft brick my phone and can place my phone back into DL mode can i restore it's original ROM or am i forced, like you said, to search a compatible FW.
interesting about the batteries, what does it say in settings->about phone/Model number?
Yeah, for jpf just dont input the bootloader. just choose csc phone and pda.
You will only be able to restore your original if you download it, sorry, but you most likely wont soft brick it.
Also, do a reset before and after flashing (in recovery mode= vol up down home +power)
once again my thanks donkey (lol)
As model it states GT-I5800. I'm just assuming that I5801 are the branded phones.
Cause both Orange brand & Mobistar brand carry the I5801 model nr while my friends non-branded one carries the I5800 model and the normal look.
Anyways i also read it is safe to backup following files.
bml5 = zImage
bml6 = factoryfs
bml7 = datafs

Wich appear to be the files located in the PDA md5 when looking inside the JPF FW.
Correct? Possible to reflash to original FW using these files?
PS: yeah i am a worst case doomsday scenario type of user even though you say chance to brick is low that 0.1% always seems to be me.

Yup,you could flash PDA again with those.
Anyways, I dont see any reason why your phone and jpf would be incompatible. Something might possibly go wrong (it wont ) in the first flash, but that doesn't mean you cant try (and succeed) in flashing jpf again, or trying out another froyo rom.
Well tomorrow i'll try it out.
And see what happens.
Just to summarize in case anyone new to this also sees this and is doubting.
When using Oding leave the bootload blank to save your own bootloader. (this is to be able to put your phone in DL mode)
Backup /efs folder and original PDA files located in one of my posts
reset phone before and after flashing. Read donkeys remarks
Ask when your not sure
Anyways thanks for all the tips Donkey. Your not as stubborn as the name claims
^reset not reboot
ask if you're not sure after reading
also, im selectively stubborn

FYI: The Mobistar models are i5801 (hardware wise) but they come flashed with a i5800 firmware
Guess Mobistar didn't want their parent company's branding (Orange) all over their phone
PS: I've flashed mine -also a Mobistar one- a gazillion times with any of the i5800 firmwares posted around these boards. Never any issues.
Yup flashed mine without any issues

build is SCH-I500.DL30
baseband isS:i500.04 V.DIO1
To use Odin, you need to get into download mode. Turn the phone off, pull the battery, hold the volume down button, plug in the USB cable while continuing to hold the volume down button. Phone should now be in download mode and Odin should pick up the device (assuming you had the drivers installed as well already). When flashing anything via Odin, be sure to use the PDA button.
The issue sounds like you just need a new modem flashed to the phone, or downgrade your ROM to whatever version the baseband is. Personally, if you want to stick with Froyo, you should upgrade to EB01. It doesn't really fix much, but at least it has a modem available.
EDIT: Your issue is the DI01 baseband and DL30 build. I'd say update to EB01. If you want to stick with stock, go with DL09 and update to the EA28 OTA.

did you ever install the samsung drivers on your computer
Seriously? you couldnt have looked that hard if you were on DL30. that isn't even a current leak. and there's a sticky thread with a how-to for everything HERE...
With such quotes as "DL30 is now outtdated as it was replaced by a newer release of froyo aka EB01."
and... "The Froyo EB01 update has it's own radio that needs to be flashed via Odin."
and HERE is a seriously HARDCORE step-by-every-tiny-step walkthrough for rooting/froyo/eb01. I didn't even search. It was in plain sight.
My god...

Yea, I just rooted a Vibrant the other night. That was no problem compared to this...
I dont think you guys are following me. I got this phone last night already rooted and running DL30. I DID NOT FLASH IT MYSELF. I cant get into cwm to do anything and odin gives me the message i posted a few posts ago. I have the drivers installed.
When your phone is plugged in and Odin is open, does the ID:COM field show anything? It should turn yellow and display the COM port your phone is connected to. Also, you are clicking the PDA button and selecting the file you want to flash, correct? Your process should follow this: http://goo.gl/TEv2T and if you want to flash a full image (ROM/Kernel/Modem) it would take the place of the modem tar file, but it would still go under the PDA button.
re what imnuts posted (I was drafting a similar post when his popped up)...
I have experienced issues with the usb port not working correctly. If the Odin ID:COM field is blank, you might have a usb problem.
Does the phone allow you to mount the sdcard using the Samsung drivers? If not, odin won't work either.

I think it is my drivers. They worked fine the other night. I just uninstalled and tried some posted in a thread here and it still doesnt work. It says problem with gadget serial.
I believe that all the SGS phones require different drivers to work properly. Download the most recent drivers from Samsung from the I500 download page
EDIT: Download

Are you following this when trying flash? http://goo.gl/TEv2T What error is it giving you, and at what step in the process? Also, the screens should look similar as far as how the boxes look while flashing.

I'll second that. I was skimming through this thread to see if anybody actually helped you with your issue rather than just saying "google it, n00b" and other such bs like that.
People are right, there *is* a lot of information to be found in these forums, but some people have lives and don't follow every single post in every single thread. I miss my days in iAudiophile.net where when a member had a legitimate question, the least we could do was to post a link to another thread for them to follow.
...So which EB01 rom did you upgrade to?
