How come all of apps to take a screenshot of your phone are for rooted phones only? Are there any that you don't have to be rooted?

There is a tool in the android sdk called ddms you can use which does not require root.
I was able to use a app simply called screenshots by geeksoft it's pretty good in it was able to be used without rooting the phone
^does the "shake" option work for you?

Geeksofts Screenshot requires the phone to be rooted...were you already rooted?

Reason I ask is because...I rooted my EVO now everyday I am in the dev section looking for new roms and kernels. I really don't want to deal with that stress with my Tab...Unless I am missing something that's a must have with root.
Tell me...
I don't want to flash a new rom yet as I just got my Tab on Friday. But I must say, rooting is necessary if you want to take full advantage of the device's capabilities. Barring flashing a custom rom.
Applications like Titanium Backup and Market Enabler require the device to be rooted. And those are just the ones I've installed thus far. I'm sure there are many other useful applications out there which require su access.

Is annoying!
Market Enabler and Root Explorer were the deal breakers for me.
Stress? How can rooting be stressful? If anyting, it'll reduce the stress by allowing your device to function properly.

Hi all
I would like to know if it's possible to update a third party application without user action.
I noted that the android market can self-update the installed apps. The user is not asked about an acknowledgment.
I don't want to offer my self-coded app in the market. I found a way to update this app from my homepage, but the user must this affirm.
you could make a service that runs when the phone boots up that checks whether a new version exists, and if it does it downloads it.

thanks for your help.
That's not the problem. The download and the install works fine. All I want is to get rid of the dialog asking the user whether he want to update or not.
sorry ignore, misread the question

if after installing the app you open the app from within the market again, it gives you the option of auto-updating?

my application is not available on the market. it's a business applikation only used by our company. therefore i don't want to upload it to the market.
oh I get you. I know it must be possible because like you said the market can do it, but I don't know how, sorry.
ill do some digging and see what I can find.

Are there any programs out there that will copy the screen on an unrooted phone?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
not sure but i don't think so last time i checked all the screen capture apps required root.
There's an app called screen capture shortcut on the market that doesn't require root
not sure, but I don't think 'shootme' requires root, does it ?

Shootme used to work, but ever since they updated it a while back, it doesn't work anymore unless you have root. I can look for an old version, but I am not sure.
Step 1. Install the Android SDK
Step 2. Plug your phone into your computer and start up the ddms tool. (SDK/tools)
Step 3. Select your device from the list in the right pane of the ddms application, then select device -> screen capture from the menu bar.
Step 4. Whenever your phone is ready for the screenshot click save, and choose a place for ddms to save it on your pc..
I've heard dropcap says that it requires root but can really be used without it.

Oh thanks, you did. I appreciate the instructions, but I'm looking for something that doesn't not involve the use of computers, plug up phone and all that.

More than likely not going to happen, epic screen buffer requires root access

the app is identifying root on your phone. only way around this is to get a cracked version of that app that dosent scan for root when its installed or use a different tv app. you might also try lucky patcher as there may be a custom patch for something like that.

It's a crappy app anyways. When it want it to work, I disable super user (I'm using super user su) and it works fine. Make sure it's disabled when u install it as well

Thanks both - the Barclays app doesn't like (won't run on) rooted phones, or CyanogenMod (I believe), which is a real pain.
Just did a live chat with OnePlus, 'Danielito' assures me that it will run!
If it can't, install xposed then install RootCloak, configure it to work for Barclay's app then reboot. Worked for me for my bank app which doesn't work on rooted device before

Thanks for your interest. I have never found a way of getting the Barclays app to work on a rooted phone, and as far as I'm aware neither has anyone else. I actually have a rooted phone right now - Jiayu S3 - and whatever I've tried, the app still won't run (it says it can't run on rooted devices).
And to be honest, I just want to be able to install the app without having to do anything else!

I've tested myself and yeah, rootcloak no longer works. U may have just to settle on www.barclays.mobi if you wanna use on rooted devices.
The developers of rootcloak stated that Barclays app was updated to utilize the method of detecting through native library which is very difficult to bypass/hide away.

I definitely don't (want to use on rooted devices), hence my question about the OP2!

I have updated my post above with the explanation. Basically at the current moment the app wont run on any rooted device unless someone found a new way to bypass it. This is not a device specific issue. It applies to all rooted devices by how the root binary logic works.
And if you're not gonna root, yeah it will work
Sent from my ONE A2003 using Tapatalk
Just to clarify, the OP2 doesn't come rooted so you should be fine with the app.
Very wrong. The Barclay's App wouldn't run on dual SIM phones. They're such clowns.
I left Barclay's over this final straw and went to Lloyds.
But you still have to manage without root.
Exactly! Barclay banking app developers are f**king clowns!!! bought my self a zenfone 2 today (which is also dual sim) and the app wont even open. it just crashes. Spoke to barclays customer services and tech people and guess what they said?.... Said their app does not support Intel processors..... I MEAN WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K!!! what do they want me to do? sell my £200 phone and by another crappy spec one just to run there app? Absolutly ridiculous, iam fumin!
I ran Barclays app on my stock OnePlus 2 for over 2 years without any issue.
