Juice Defender - EVO 4G General

After I used Juice Defender and uninstalled it, I now can't turn off "always on" data. When I click it off, it still stays on. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't mind using juice defender, I just don't like that uninstalling an app and now I can't control this particular setting.

Did you email the dev of that app to see if they might have any suggestions? They "should" know their app better than anyone else.

Have you tried restarting your phone?

If im understanding you correctly you have to reinstall the app , do the setup and then when you are ready to uninstall the app . Go back into Juice Defender and disable the app from its setting then uninstall . I ran into a similar issue when I tried it out . I got a whopping 1.16 battery life ROFL . Personally I think it drained more battery then it saved but thats just my own opinion.

I have the same issue. I have tried to reinstall juice defender and disable it then uninstall. I still cannot turn off data through the power control widget in cm6.

Stuff like this, I wonder if the program just arbitrarily pulls a number out of it's butt and says, "this program has increased your battery life by xx%!"
But then again, I'm cynical in my old age.
Last night, after running for a few hours, it said it saved me 7x in battery life! I looked at how much battery I had left and started to wonder... What was the name of that Penn and Teller cable tv show????

Something is sucking the life out of my battery while its idle!

I dont understand whats goin on. While im using the phone the battery seems fine and drops maybe 2-3% while listening to 30 mins of music. However as soon the screen switches off the battery plumets, overnight it droped by 30%. What could be draining the battery this much?
So far this is what ive tried.
3g is off 24/7
wifi is off most of the time
Using Helix launcher
Using battery defender
use media scape every now and then
Timescape never used.
Brightness is halfway
Any tips ??

11% android system

4%media server

not sure what it means though
Your big one is the cell. Put the phone into airplane mode unless you need to be on standby for calls.

i thought 3g being off would help, but it hasnt lol.
2-3% in half hour is 4-6% per hour and say 30% overnight at an estimate of 8hrs is 3.75% per hour.
That seems a little on the high side but if you are getting a day or so of battery life with reasonable use then I'd say you are probably getting roughly around the same as everyone else (a few exceptions here and there claiming much higher figures but i have no idea about this).
I dont think you are going to be able to do much to improve it short of turning off your radio completely or disabling data for certain periods usin juice defender or similar. Can't see the point in doing this though - kinda defeats the object of having a smart phone

You must deactivate the internet connection, and then a soft reset
Go onto my thread of how to maintain battery life and memory, while your phone is idle it has background apps running like gmail or google talk, i dont use timescape because of all the fancy screen motion it consumes way too much battery juice.
Got any more questions then just PM me

I actually have the TimeScape widget on my homescreen, BUT I have removed Facebook and Twitter and all the other internet-updated stuff, as I already have separate applications for them and hundreds of contacts I don't care so much about to see their statuses on my homescreen, and it doesn't suck my battery at all.
And it's nice to see the last missed call/message/picture taken at a glance!
Just go to Timescape, press Menu, Settings, and remove those from display settings for tiles and splines!

What if i use gmail?
Disabling google talk only will help?
GPS is what did it for me. After trying everything else I decided to try turning off the GPS antenna and yesterday was the first day I made it through with power to spare. Now my usage was a little less than usual yesterday so I'm still gonna be testing with GPS off for a few more days but so far so good, I think that did it for me!

Do you use google talk ? If you keep yourself logged in, this could be an issue.
Also, I do a restart after each recharge. I found this to help somehow..
The phone is alway trying to sync. So you should probably uncheck
setting -> mobile networks -> MMS & Data -> turn off
Turn sync app off
Also you mentioned you display brightness is at 50% turn it even lower you will notice a huge difference
ive tried most things people have mention with no real change, im goin to reduce the brightness this time.
If your indoors brightness @ 10-15% is more than enough..
Id suggest trying adw launcher and maybe cut out the animation effects in adw settings and also in phone settings under sound and display! Lookz more slicker than original and for me lasts more than a day.
If u use mediascape mainly for music id suggest tryin 'meridian'.. quicker to use, nice music control widget and drains less battery!
Hope it helpz!!

I have fixed it I think. i had a look at my battery history in spare parts and found my phone spent 86% of its time running, 15 hours which means the phone never went to sleep. The only culprit I could think of was juice defender because it is on all the time. Now my battery went down only 3% over night.

Juice defender drains my battery and overheats the phone.

EDIT: Problem fixed, factory reset and reinstalling helped, see my next post further down.
Now testing Juice defender to see if it really improves things considering I am already managing phone features on my own. See post on next page.
Just like title mentions:
Juice defender drains my battery and overheats the phone.
This is what I did:
I downloaded and installed juice defender from the market.
I took a look in the program, it asked asked something about autodetecting the phone. I let it perform the autodetection.
Once in the program i took a fast glance ofer the settings (didn't touch anything or change anything after autodetection)
I thought that I'd deal with it later and then I put the phone aside.
A few minutes later, the phone beeps. So I pick it up to see what it "beeps" about.
A warning message that the temperature have risen over 50 degree Celsius (122 Farenheit)
The phone was HOT!
Also I've found the battery have drained over 25% during these few minutes I left it alone since Juice defender got installed.
Suddenly the phone reboots without any whatsoever reason, just straight into the boot screen.
From here on it all starts over again:
Phone overheats (as it is already hot), warning message about temperature, battery keeps draining FAST.
I check the SetCPU application and see that the CPU constantly at it's full speed.
SetCPU are set on "On demand".
I took the conclusion something are working hard and are loading the cpu to it's full capacity.
I shut down the phone, pulls the battery, let it cooldown for 30 minutes.
Once the phone is cool again I replug the battery, boots up the phone.
Now back into standby mode, the phone slowly gets warmer, the battery are almost empty and keeps draining fast.
Soon the battery are out of juice and the phone shuts off. The phone got hot during those few minutes.
Now I put the charger in, boot the phone up and the first thing I do is uninstall juice defender, reboot the phone to make sure it's not left in memory.
Now the phone are back to it's normal behavior, SetCPU reports low speed, still set on "On demand".
It charges normally and the phone keeps cool, even after 20 minutes.
Conclusion: Once I install Juice defender and let it "autodetect" it start loading the CPU to 100% and drains the battery without any message or whatsoever.
Killing juice defender itself does not help, draining and overheating keeps happening.
Uninstall and reboot got rid of the problem.
As of now, I will NOT use juice defender at all. Won't even touch it.
Maybe I don't have to. The R2BA023 firmware is good enough as it is.
Any ideas what's wrong here?
Phone: Sony Ericsson X10i
Baseband: 1.1.27
Firmware: R2BA023 (Rooted)
Same config, no problem.
I've also got an X10i with a rooted R2BA023 (or whatever it's called). I use Juice Defender with none of your described problems. I only charge my phone every other or third day. Have you tried reinstalling? I'm thinking that it could have been something that went wrong during the installation.
i've got unrooted X10i R2BA024 with juicedefender installed, but those issues didnt occur

You gave me an idea there, and helped me solve my problem.
Reinstalling Juice defender did not help. However, factory reset and reinstall did help.
Not sure what could have caused this, but something odd was in the way, and that "odd" whatever it was, went away with a factory reset.
Also a few other minor "jerks" vanished with the factory reset.
I would suggest anyone who have rooted the X10 according to the instructions found here at xda-developer, also perform a factory reset afterwards, if there are strange problems:
Jerky and/or laggy screen.
Applications suddenly closing without any messages.
Phone suddenly locks the SIM card in middle of anything, where you have to unlock it again with the pin code.
Phone completely freezes up for a minute or two, only to recover afterwards, as nothing happened.
Screen unlocking itself without anyone or anything touching it, or anything connected.
I also had to repeat Step3 according to the rooting instructions, where superuser.apk and some other nice applications gets installed after the factory reset.
Once this was done I resynced the phone to get my contacts back, then straight on to Juice defender.
Juice defender now works (I think).
What's left to do now is to play around with the settings and reinstall some other applications. I will also avoid using the last set of Titanium backups I have, due to the risk of the "problem" coming back.
Mayve the problem is caused by JD + SetCPU?
I use JuiceDefender and SetCPU together and they work fine for me. When the phone is idle, i.e. REALLY idle - no bluetooth, wifi off, APN off, no apps running other than SetCPU, JD and a few ignored ones - there are times when the battery drain is practically 0% over an hour. According to the JuicePlotter chart, anyway.
Next report:
So far, so good, Everything seems to be working, and no, the combination JD and SetCPU are not the cause of the problem.
I have both installed and both are playing nicely together, no fights in the sandbox so far. Maybe I don't need both?
I do however believe that Juice defender is a bit overrated (but not much).
I usually keep my wlan, bluetooth etc. turned off when I don't use em.
Juice-defender just makes this semi-automatic. So for me, who are already keeping my "bells and whistles" at a minimum, juice defender doesn't help that much.
The R2BA023 firmware/ROM/patch (or what it's called) does improve the power consumption ALOT by itself, and together with SetCPU and my manually handling of the phones features when I need em, maybe makes Juice Defender superfluous in my case.
I will now first let Juice Defender log my everyday usage without it being active (just logging).
After a few days from here on, I try with Juice defender "activated" and see if it improves anything in my case.
I'll be back...
I have Juice Defender Ultimate (purchased) and I have not had any problems with it ever since.
I'm currently testing it with my newly installed CM7-ZMOD CYANOGENMOD 7.
Hope I don't get anything bad from this. I don't even know if having Juice Defender is recommendd with mods as I am new to modding, rooting and flashing.

i have to say, the juice defender rocks, totally solve my battery problem.

actually, i still dont understand how it works. days before, i keep.complaining the bad battery, it drops 15% after one night. i turned my wifi and 3g off, it didnt work. i opened a thread to complain about this, some friend advise me to use the juice defender which really help a lot. now it use only 3 to 4% for 8 hours standby, which is much much better than before. if u are also troubled by ur battery, give it a shot. it's free from the market.

What does it shut off? Seems like it has to be something important to work. I want my email in real-time; does it mess with that?
I installed this only a few hours ago. yet to see any significant change. By the looks of it, having it on the default setting will turn data off when your screen is off, but I still get e-mail notifications in my 1hr check intervals even when my phone is sleeping.

The main feature is that it disables data most of the time (2g, 3G or wifi) and only enables it at preset intervals, like 2 minutes every 30 minutes to get your e-mails and stuff.
So basically what you lose is push / real time notifications.
It can also manage the screen brightness and CPU clock more precisely, put the phone in plane mode while you're sleeping (for example you can tell Juice defender to go in plane mode from 23:30 to 6:30 every day, except if you're still using your phone after 23:30 or start using it before 6:30), or activate wifi only when you're in a specific location.
Does anybody have issues receiving MMS picture messages with JD or any other power saving app running?
I had 'Green Power' running yesterday. A few people sent me pics which came through as blank. Stopped the app and asked them to resend and it worked.
Thanks
NC
I tried this app too, but the battery draining when WiFi was enabled was higher than without JuiceDefender. Still trying to get through all the JD settings...
I dont think Juice Defender would work well for me as I use Whats App a lot...
I use it on my ego. One of the best apps i bought
from my phone duh
Is anyone else able to toggle the 2G/3G setting? I've paid for the Ultimate Pack (wish i hadn't now as the Plus pack is supposed to do this) but apparently JD doesn't like my ROM, the Log says: 'ROM is not compatible with AOSP helper (3G control is unavailable) - get CyanogenMod
Out of interest i was on a UK O2 branded phone so i flashed XEU KW7, then rooted, then put back the original KE7 kernel. I wonder if that's the problem?
I was messing with Juice defender, but I found the app called Battery Booster to be much, much more effective. I went from a 12 hour battery, to having between 24 and 28 hours the last 3 charges. Simply amazing, more than doubled my battery life. Using perhaps 1-2% per hour when sleeping.
1-2% per hour when sleeping is not that good, i get 3% in 8 hours when sleeping.
But juice defender does what should be built into the gingerbread and that is, it puts your wifi and 3g to sleep when your screen is off or when you are not using it.
I personaly dont use push notifications so loosing that doesnt bother me, what bothers me is when the phone is in sleep it drains because i have wifi on.
I dont want to be turning wifi on and off all the time, i want it to be automatic, when i go on the web or open an app that uses data it should turn on my wifi.
SO YES JUICE DEFENDER DOES ROCK.
Well, before battery booster it used 5 - 8% per hour sleeping, so I'm pretty darn happy with the results I'm getting now. It used to last me about 12 hours. Now it lasts usually over 24 hours, which is great. That is included with 3-4 hours of screen-on time. Android OS also dropped by 20% after getting battery booster.

no problem at all with push services.
the way juice def works is simple: it geolocalizes ur wifi router, and moving out the area of wifi, jd switches off wifi hardware until u come back home\office. it does the same with other hardware modules not in use.
wot doesnt work: ebuddy or other istant massaging apps while screen is off (I think it's unuseful to use jd with IM-draining batt-apps)

I just installed Battery Booster. Juice Defender didn't do much for me but annoy me.
Now see how this app will hold itself.
Very similar to my finding with ATK (link below). Something happened in Gingerbread with how the OS handles cached apps... to the point where some cached apps stay active and keep your device awake!

I solved my battery drain problem

I was having a problem with fast battery drain on my SGS2. I would get 15 hours if lucky from a full charge with light - moderate use. My most recent charge looks like it has doubled the time.
What did I change? I did a factory reset and manually installed all my apps, NOT using titanium backup. I had used titanium backup to restore apps only, that were from my previous phone (Nexus1). I have never used titanium backup for system settings, only apps, but it seems even that is unreliable. I've now stopped using titanium backup completely.

Will it matter if it's i9100 to i9100, or just any other phone to i9100?
Well... Ive done several hard resets , because I though I had a network problem , and I many of those I didnt install titanium or even root the device and the battery life was the same.
Just one opinion..

If you notice a higher battery drainage than normal then you have to see what application you've installed lately. If you can't find it then the only option is to do a Hard Reset. That has worked for me, IF your battery is drained by some app which you've installed lately.
Regards.
I am sure battery drain has to do with the apps we installed and the settings we use.
We are in a fortunate situation that my wife and I have both S II, hers is 2 days older from the same shop, so I assume both devices are from the same batch. Hence no hardware difference.
I installed a lot app and played with lots of settings and if my wife like it, she "demand" to install it on hers too, so hers is a more controlled env.
For some reason my battery drains a lot quicker than hers. I still have to find out which application / settings cause this.
For an experiment, we did not use both phones for a full day (very difficult), so all the drain is due to background processes.
There are several dips in the graph, but those are explicitly usage of the phone for a while. The big last drop on her battery was because she was playing a game for more than 3 hrs.
PS.
A collegue of mine (also an SII) had his battery run out quickly, until he found out his culprit: Settings->Location and security->Use wireless network was ON.
You can see the effect of this as the "almost horizontal bar" in my wife's battery when we turned it off.
thx for info man.
What would happen if i turn that off? I want to try this to preserve my batt life. Thanks!

I have used TV to restore many times and battery life is fine. I'm would suggest that the issue is some app you are restoring rather than TB

I wonder if having 3rd party launchers like launcher pro drains the battery quicker. I installed launcher pro without ever having really tested the battery life of the phone with the standard launcher. Has anyone here tested the difference, if any, of the battery life of standard v market app launchers?

The screen shot on the left is your phone correct? It looks like something is waking your phone up and leaving it in an awake state for far too long. Your graph represents over a day's time and I see those huge chunks of time where your screen is off but your phone is awake; I'd say some program is what do they call it *wakelock* every now and then.

it's not just the apps that was just installed. It should include apps that are updated. I had this issue on SGS I when beautiful widget was having issues with updates causing the phone to use more battery power than usual
Morel likely to be a bad app, or a bad app setting causing the app not to close properly then drain power than the mere fact you restored it via titanium.

why is that so?

Turning off data packet doesn't allow any application going on line (unless you have your wifi on) and cannot download e-mails, synchronize anything, etc..
This saves your battery a lot.

Yes, that is also what I suspect. It is just to find out what which application / settings this cause.

Of course the updates are included. There should be an app/good optimized app which will allow us to close the apps and thus Auto Sync and Background Data to off when we are not using them, especially at bed time. The in built task manager's RAM Clearance function is crap and frankly I haven't found an app which will optimize the RAM without force losing the apps/widgets. Tried 'Gemini App' but I doubt! This 'Sync' stuff is the main responsible part of high battery drain.

Battery

Hi all! I've had my note for about a month with no problems, but last night it went flat in 11 hours of no use.... The battery use screen shows that it was the OS with nothing else running!
I have this problem too, really need to know answers!
Do u leave ur wifi, packet data, gps and Bluetooth always on? This may be the problem, just use any battery saver tools and close unnecessary hardware

but i always have the same settings - why such a sudden drop in battery life?
Check if you are in 3G mode or 2G.... 2G save a lot battery
Im happy can reach 5 to 6 hours screen on

Installed anything just before the drain problem?
Pretty much all the problems I've had with battery drain have been traced to an app misbehaving. The battery stats info can be a bit misleading too - so don't trust that the OS itself is draining the juice... Its more likely to be some service app that doesn't show up a itself on the stats.
I've found Widget Locker a painful battery hog, for example, but it never shows up in my battery stats. Instead the Android OS, or whatever last write to the system log (log cat) show up as using all the power. Uninstalling WL always fixes the problem so I know its that app causing the drain.
Also, is that shield in your notifications bar some sort of battery saver?
If so it may be the cause not the saviour! I've read that the latest free version of Green Power tries to connect to ad-servers constantly and drains the battery double-quick. Apparently the premium version doesn't have this issue but you have to pay for it, obviously!
the issue is undoubtedly running services..you probably added an app or three that is high maintenance.
shut down and restart your phone and then without starting or using any apps, leave it overnight to get a better benchmark for battery life.
If still low, look at the running services, you may be staggered to see what amount of crap is running in the background..

how do we find what services are running?
Mine hasn't had any new apps installed and normally loses about 7 percent overnight. The shield in the pic is lookout which I've always used without a problem. I have restarted the phone so I'll see how it goes today. Its wierd because nothing has changed in use or apps so something must have hung and run it down.
I'll post any other findings!
Thanks
Steve
just done a hard restart
turned off wifi
removed weather widget
removed live wallpaper
turned off haptic feedback
will test results later
