Hi,
I've just bought my first android phone (mytouch 3g) which was rooted by the previous owner to the 2.2 cyanogen mod. The phone is running pretty slow, and I'm guessing it's because of the mod. Is there a step by step guide on how to downgrade it? And is it worth downgrading in the first place?
Thanks.

Perform nandroid backup then download a different rom, store it to the root of your sdcard, wipe your device from recovery and flash your new rom.
CM5.0.8 (current stable CyanogenMod) is fairly fast on my HTC Magic.
1) figure out what model of the Magic you have 32A or 32B (see the cyanogen wiki)
2) go to the cyanogen wiki (google for the page) and follow the instructions
generally it goes like this
1) download proper rom (for the 32a/32b) and put it on an sd card in your phone
2) go into recovery mode (hold home + power)
3) do a nandroid backup
4) wipe
5) install rom file(s) from sd card
6) you're done

Hello all,
I have a htc Magic which I bought from India with the following description.
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (SAP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Jun 2 2009, 17:28:28
Now I was able to root the phone using the One Click Root Method and I was able to Install Amon Ra's ROM and it works perfectly. however I was wondering if I could possibly give the Cyanogen ROM a try too. However I'm a bit confused with the instructions especially since I'm quite new to this.
This guide will tell you how to upgrade from an older (< 4.1.99) version of CyanogenMod to the latest and greatest versions!
Note: it is recommended that if you are on an older version of cm-recovery (< 1.4) you upgrade to cm-recovery-1.4.img (32a users make sure you upgrade to amonra's latest H recovery)
Installation instructions for an HTC Dream/ADP1/G1 and HTC Magic/ION/MT3G:
1. Download either:
* Dream/G1 users download this: Android 1.6 Recovery Image. (This isn’t like a typical "recovery" image we know -- it’s simply HTCs version of an update.zip.) Download Mirrors
* Magic32A and Magic32B users: Download this DRC83_base_defanged.zip
2. Download Cyanogen's ROM latest version
3. Magic32A and Rogers Dream users: Download the 32A/EBI1 kernel latest version
4. Mount your phone and place BOTH the image from step 1 and Cyanogen's ROM (as well as the EBI1/32A port file, if applicable) in the root directory of your SD Card.
5. Turn your phone off.
6. Hold the Home and Power buttons to get to Recovery Mode.
7. Perform a Nandroid backup if you'd like to (optional, but highly recommended).
8. If you want, perform a full Wipe -- this will sometimes allow Google apps to function correctly, if problems arise (optional).
9. If you don't perform a full wipe, it is recommended to clear the dalvik-cache directory (from console or adb shell in recovery):

Here are the instructions I found for "Upgrading From Older CyanogenMod or other rooted ROMs" . Would it be correct to assume that I have to follow the above guide? Also I have Amon Ra's recovery image installed on my phone. I believe the version is 1.5.2H . Can I perform the above install using this recovery image?
Finally the files I have to download and install are
DRC83_base_defanged.zip
Download Cyanogen's ROM latest version
32A/EBI1 kernel latest version
Would that be correct? Thanks in advance and sorry if the questions are quite silly.
I installed this ROM too (Perfect SPL as yours) and even earlier recovery (RA 1.2.3) and there were no problems.
1. Recovery mode, if you haven't done nandroid backup yet (your original ROM), then do this.
2. Choose "wipe data".
3. Apply .zip files which you listed above in this order: base, cyan mod, and port 32a.
4. Reboot and enjoy
Thank you much! Im on Cyanogen Mod as of now. Thanks to all you folk who dedicated their time to allow us to use our devices the way we want.
Cheers .
Hi guys
I am wanting to try out cyanogen custom ROM version 6 on an AT&T N1. I'm reading the below instructions and its a bit unclear to me what I am supposed to do re: the radio. Can someone assist?
- if I follow below instructions, do I end up flashing the radio?
- if so which radio firmware am I supposed to use?
- can I just do below and skip step 3, then I will end up with cyanogen w/ stock radio, and that will work fine? Note I am 850Mhz user.
Nexus one (AT&T version w/ 850Mhz 3G band) running stock FRF91. Baseband: 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM to your Nexus (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device and install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager or Amon_RA's recovery image
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. Update your radio if necessary
4. WIPE
5. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon
- Upgrading?
1. Do a Nandroid Backup!
2. Install the ROM (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
You already have the Froyo radio so you can skip step 3.
These links should help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618768 especially for getting adb set up and flashing a custom recovery.
I'm an att user, as of froyo both tmo and att versions of the phone use the same radio. So as long as you are coming from a stock froyo build with the new radio you can flash any froyo rom without worrying about the radio... including cm 6 (which I'm currently using without issue).
Edit: it looks as though you have the same radio as me if the baseband version in your post is your phones. so you should be good.
hi everybody!
some days ago i flashed my magic (TIM Italy, so 32A) whit the Magic_Rogers3.54.631.3 rom, that was a ruu exe file.
It flashed my spl and radio, that now are hboot-1.76.0010 (SAPP10000) and 6.35.16.19.
Now i wanted to change rom because of the language (i'm not able to put an italian dictionary when i write), but i don't succeed.. i tried to reflash the recovery, but i can't because fastboot says that is not possible to send data to the phone, so i can't also boot some recovery image.. same problem via adb or via terminal on the phone.
i rooted the phone with the last universal androot, but it's the same..
i succeeded to change recovery only with rom manager, but the phone doesn't go in recovery mode (it's still on the "rogers" splash screen), or if it goes, it reboot alone after a few seconds.
oh, at last, i'm not able to flash other rom, like the RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_3.05.401.1_test_signed_NoDriver or my original TIM rom.
I'll be really grateful to who will help me!!
thanks for reading!
download this application FlashRec
install it to your device
then download any of Amon_RA recovery imgs (HERE) (Choose the correct one for your device)
then push it to your sdcard
then open the FlashRec and press backup,
then write in the blank box "sdcard/xxxxx.img"
where xxxxx is the name of the img you pushed to your SD
then press flash .. if it is successful, connect your phone to adb
and write "adb shell reboot recovery"
I tried this on 32A 1.33.0010 and Radio 3.22,
I'm NOT 100% sure it will work with you,
try it at your own risk.
it says "phone type is EBI1/32A"
i press backup with or without the name in the box,and the result is
"backup failed: could not run command."

me too... but the htc magic 32a with the actual stock rom, android 1.5 with sense form january, is already bugfixed.
Moving to General
sorry for the mistake, i thought it was the right section..
anyway i followed the guide in the post linked by renedlog and.. it worked!!! i didn't know where to put the flash_image file.. but it was written there.. so i did all, and now my rom is the RCMagic 5.0!
do you think it's good to try something different?
i use RCMagic 4.2
the version 5 is still a little buggy with the wake up from standby.
i will upgrade to an android 2.2 rom, if there is an update today for the 32B and hopefully it will be patched to my 32A.
yeah, i saw that bug.. it's really a pity, the rom was a little faster than the 4.2..
i suppose it would not be a big bug, so i hope somebody that is able will fix it!!
are there so big changes beetwen the 2.1 and 2.2?
Ok so I got my first Android OS phone this week. I'm already looking to make it fully customisable.
Firstly, I'm not sure the order I should do this?
1) Downgrade to 1.31 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725430)
2) Root following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746454
3) Debrand following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=671520
But it says to install one of the firmware in that thread, but I want to install CM6, do i have to install one of the firmwares listed in the thread before installing CM6? Or can I skip the firmware install and straight to CM6?
This seems bloody complicated.
When your phone is rooted, you can install CM6. So you don't need step 3.
Hello,
I have a T-Mobile US MyTouch 3g (headphone jack at the top). I followed a guide in this forum, created a gold card, and rooted it - it has the "HTC Magic" boot animation (the guide I followed said I can swap this out later).
ROM Manager v4.2.0.2 is running. I want to install Clockworkmod recovery, but it asks me to choose my phone version and I'm confused as to which one to install now. I have the following choices:
HTC Dream (GSM)
Ion/MyTouch 3G (GSM)
HTC Magic (GSM)
My recovery says "RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G" at the bottom.
In the System Information section, I have the following stats:
HTC Magic
Android 2.2.1
Baseband version 62.50SC.20.17U_2.22.23.02
Kernel Version 2.6.34.1-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1
Cyanogenmod-6.1.0-DS
1. Is it safe to flash Clockworkmod recovery through ROM Manager? If so, which one should I flash?
2. Can I safely upgrade to CM 7.x through Clockworkmod?

MyTouch/Ion recovery and yes. Follow the instructions that are provided for CM 7. I would honestly flash through the recovery itself and not through the Rom Manager. But that's just me. CM6 and CM7 has had issues flashing the recovery though. You may have to try a couple of times. If all else failes then flash the ENG bootloader back onto your phone, flash the image through fastboot and then go back to the stock spl.
Why are you swapping to Clockworkmod? Secondly, I though the CM team was no longer supporting the dream/sapphire.
Sent from my fingers.
