Hi
has anyone used a rebel sim yet - im trying mine on a streak (o2) obviously, with a vodafone card. All it does is flash up the dell logo and then reboot....are there different types of rebel sim also.....the chip on mine is to one side whereas all of the videos that ive seen show it as being in the middle so have i got the right one??
thanks to anyone that chips in...
on rebelsim's site they have a specific section for the dell streak, or if you have a generic or older rebel sim they have a programmer dongle to change the mode of the rebel sim chip

Apparently he's filled out the form and been told itll take 10 days...i do have another come-back - im off on hols in 6 weeks to florida - so if i cant then ill pick one up there sim free....

I think you have the wrong rebel sim buddy, the only i have has the little black chip at the top in the centre....
Cant see how it would stop your device from booting up though unless it is short circuiting the bootprocess somehow?
well, as i said earlier (or in another post) they were un helpful, pretty abrupt and theres no where on their site that i can find to get a swap out/returns address. (unless any one can find the link).
Its not so bad anyway as the guy that i bought it from told me that he bought it outright and has applied to o2 for an unlock code and has chased it up and has been assured that he should have one anytime soon....fingers crossed.
I hope he gets one because he will be the first.....

dont bother with paypal they turned me down flat
why isnt possible unlock with program or other method?
Well, not out of the woods yet....the guy i bought it from had a mail back from o2 this morning. They basically said that theyre not prepared to unlock it (even though he bought it outright) for 3 months from the purchase date, so, technically ive got to wait until the start of september. He's obviously complaining and im trying to ask a favour of our o2 sales rep ( we use a corporate blackberry server, phones and dongles through them at my workplace ) - he's put the request in but said "have to see what comes back..."
Fingers still crossed....at its worst ill have to wait 6 weeks for a code...but i cant see what the hassle is as he bought it outright in the first place.
there is a deactivation code? to a friend O2 said that after a month they send associated all'imei. right? and we are waiting for the code because with the rebel sim streak does not connect to the Internet.
as far as im aware o2 has stated that they will not be providing unlock codes for at least 1 year.

It is true o2 will not unlock them yet because they are the only ones selling them locked so will not unlock them so you can use there device on another network. I know dell sell them unlocked but o2 cannot do anything about them.
Once the device is more available there will be a way to unlock it its just so new, I have read about people getting data on the rebel Sim did you go to rebels website they have a section just for the streak

Pleased for you mate glad you got it working
Glad you got it working....ive bought a rebel sim and it wont even boot. Their website is useless as there are no contact emails or phone numbers that i can see - i fired up a online chat with a presales guy but as soon as he found out i was having problems he cut me off, just before he left an email address which i contacted but was then left a return mail saying bluntly "read the FAQ" which i did, which still didnt solve the problem or come anywhere near it. So from what i can currently see....its useless and so is their site. Personally i hope this thread appears in google if people are searching for info on their site. The guy that i bought the streak from has filled out the unlocking form but it looks like its 50/50 whether a number will be returned. I have also heard that they will unlock it for 50 quid....if i do get a code back ill post.

I have a streak and today i managed to get the data connection with a rebel sim. The point is that post putting in the streak , put the sim in another phone and use the internet, then put the sim in streak nand remember to spell the APN correctly, even the upper and lower cases should be kept in mind. Now my streak is giving good data speed on 2g
are you able to use the android market properly? Mine only shows up free apps and doesnt show any paid applications...
Says ''no matching content in android market''
anyone else experience this? i am using the rebel sim card also with 2g only and wifi running...

Will O2 unlock a dell streak bought as a PAYG phone,i bought one off ebay, and i am using a O2 PAYG sim card in it that i have had since 2009 i have filled in the unlocking form on the O2 web site with details of my O2 PAYG sim, date last topped up,two phone numbers most dialled,IMEI number of the dell streak etc,but i have not had a reply from O2 yet only thing that worries me is that the person i got dell streak from on ebay, got the phone from O2 as an upgrade,so will O2 know when i fill in the unlocking form with the IMEI number that the phone was for a contract upgrade, and wonder why it is being used as a PAYG phone has anyone on here had there dell streak unlocked on PAYG from O2, as i read on here that they will unlock it in 3 months from purchase,if you buy it outright from them just wondering how it goes if purchased from ebay thanks for any help on here
O2 will not be unlocking any handsets for the forseeable future...period
Hi guys just a bit of advice needed...
I have a o2 streak, but i want to use it on my other networks, should i wait a while for an unlock solution cos apparently the rebel sim doesnt work??
I just want to check if anyone even knows if unlocking the device is even possible? will we ever have it unlocked? And more to the point is anyone even trying to unlock it?
well, straight from the horses mouth...ie o2 is that they wont unlock a contracted phone for a 12month stint and a bought outright one (3 months) - ive just got mine from a guy that bought his outright (start of june) and got told he cant have a code til the start of sept - im currently going down another route to get the code from "a bloke i know..."
So it really depends on how you bought yours....
I bought a dell streak on ebay, And i am using an o2 payg sim in it, that i have had since dec 2009,i have applied for an unlock code from o2 by filling in there online form,as i have purchased the streak outright ,will i get it unlocked as stated in above thread, thanks.
Pretty slim my friend. If its a contract one youve got no chance - they wont unlock it for a year (i think thats already been said). Ive got a few irons in the fire at the moment, ill let you know what happens with mine once ive got my code (hopefully)

It actually means either
1. get a pay as you go o2 SIM
2. get an o2 compatible SIM
3. Get a rebel SIM
4. Pray for an unlock code
I did 3 and am currently doing a lot of 4 ;-)

we have a chance to come out code?
I believe that O2's position with the unlocking of SIM-free and pre-pay Streaks isn't actually legit.
Ofcom's guidelines are that O2 can only refuse to unlock the phone until they've recovered any subsidy offered on the phone - in the case of the SIM-free and and pre-pay versions that amounts to £0 and £30 respectively against the cost direct from Dell.
I would call O2 customer service and ask for the unlock code (they can ask for a reasonable fee for this). If they refuse tell them that you'll be reporting them to Ofcom and open a complaint with Ofcom (http://www.ofcom.org.uk/) if enough people do it I suspect they'll relent and do what they're legally obliged to do.
As far as the contract Streaks are concerned, they are within their rights to refuse to unlock for 12 months, but as they're getting their pound of flesh through contract payments whatever happens to the phone I can't see their justifcation for refusing...
Hope this helps...

O2 will not be unlocking Streaks for the forseeable future, that is fact whether you have filled in a form or spoke to a CSA who says thet they can do it....it will not happen

Hi
I have the dell streak, and am on vodafone UK ,i just received the rebelsim card 2 yesterday and put it in my streak, seems to be working fine with my vodafone sim,i am on a vodafone contract, all i did was put my vodafone sim card in an old nokia ,that does not have 3g,to get signal, and then put it in my streak with rebel sim and vodafone sim card ,seems to be working great, if you buy the rebel sim for the dell streak just now, they are giving you a free case for it,and a free screen protector, and if you enter the code "Rebel" during checkout you get an extra 5 percent off the total price,i paid £14.50 including postage in the uk the free case is quite cheap made, but for free,it will do until i find a better one i was a bit wary about getting the rebel sim at first, but now i am using it with vodafone uk and it works fine,so go for it

HI
Yes you get 3g but sometimes you can lose signal/service/just put it back to 2g in the streak, and it comes back no problem,i can receive texts and calls no problem give it a try, you have to keep data roaming on as well to get the 3g i think, something to do with the way the rebel sim unlocks the streak
Do you have to put the sim back into a 2G phone and then back in the streak. Or can you just set the Streak to 2G and then back to 3G?
Somehow vodafone 3g can work on Dell Streak with rebel sim. Im on 3 and no 3g with rebel sim. I dont want to stay with O2 so hence the sale of my Dell Streak, waiting for the unlocked one price go lower so I can afford one

Seriously Just buy a rebel sim card.
Spent £15 on it yesterday arrived today.
Used a pair of wire snips to cut out the square, got a small piece of sellotape and taped it on.
put it in my dell and bingo! one dell streak with a t-mobile sim working 100%
:-D
Lets see how you get on after a few days before your smile gets too big.
I've given up on the rebelsim after firmware 1.2 let me down (lost data connection)
Good luck, keep us posted

Been using rebel ii for three weeks, it's a great piece of kit.
Apart from seeing the 3 logo on the top bar you wouldn't even know the difference.
You need to edit your post title as its misleading i thought you had unlocked a streak not a rebel Sim thats like old news, 6 months old news but seriously change your Title mate

Hey, yeah this is true.
But rebel sim 1.1 at the time (about a month ago) had LOADS of issues with the dell.
So I lost interest in it.
And after searching I found that the new firmware version of the rebel sim (1.2) works flawlessly with the streak now.
So just wanted to give people a heads up again.
So have the title read "" Rebel sim firmware 1.2"" and it is not an unlock its just a way of makeing the sim card work with the streak has nothing to do with an unlock
So my severe lack of patience got the better of me and I ended up buying a nexus 4 on pay from O2 today however my contract is with Three. I highly doubt it but is there any free way to sim unlock it right now, without going through one of those online unlock websites?
Thanks for any help,
Josh
It should come unlocked?
Heard this from multiple people who also bought one from O2 - apparently it is ALREADY unlocked even though you've been assured by O2 that it is locked to their network. Just try inserting a SIM from another network to verify.
I bought it today from o2 and works fine with my 3 contract

Thanks for the quick reply guys, I took it to one of the shops in town straight away to get it unlocked and after about 40 minutes of waiting, he couldn't get an unlock code for it so just out of curiosity he tried a Vodafone sim in it and it worked fine with it and he was able to make a call. From this, I too assumed that it was already unlocked but when I try my Three sim in it, it won't find the network :/ and the sim is definitely working because when I replace it in my temporary phone, it works fine. I also then found out that O2 and Vodafone have linked networks, so I assumed that's why it worked on the Vodafone sim but not my three one, pretty damn confused haha

Hmm that's interesting, and only adds to the confusion :/
Right, so my replacement three sim has just become active (needed a micro sim instead of my normal sim) and it still wont work in my N4, but does work in my spare phone. No idea what's going on.
Never mind, it's decided to work now, thanks for the info.
