Also says Car Charger or Invisible Shield from StudentRate if your making a new line..or just a car charger if your using an old line.
Any discount associated with a purchase made off of contract?
My Fiance is a full-time student and I registered her for this. I'm wondering though,.. would I be better of long-term getting our plan via Everything Plus (Employee referral) or get her's via this approach. I'm assuming the discounts do not stack

I'm not sure how you are supposed to get this deal.
It states you have to purchase the phone through the StudentRate store, but the Epic 4G is not listed for sale/pre-order. Then, the code says it expires on the 31st, so how can you even use the deal if the phone isn't available for sale yet?
Im waking up early on the 31st to see if this will work on launch day
that 23% off will offset the 10 dollars a month fee

It says its only for Rhode Island students. Although I've heard somewhere else you can still get 15% if you're not in Rhode Island

Is this student rate deal a legit one? And What schools does it cover?

Bump bump bump bump, answer?
I'm also trying to find out if this deal is legit. If I catch any clues I'll be sure to post what I find.
EDIT: So been checking through Google Search with a few terms and not much comes up, there is a blog post for college students about how great and beneficial the site is with a few informal testimonies, and some people post about it on Facebook. Seems to be very much in the shadows, not many people know about it, yet at least.
if you click the discount links, it takes you to the sprint site . if you select a phone and go to the plan pricing step, all of the prices reflect the appropriate discount. I went through the checkout prices and right before you pay, the discounts were all applied. IMO it seems to be real.
anybody did pre order on this site yet?
yea I preordered from them. Had to mail in a form with all of my account info to give to sprint to upgrade the account. It said overnight shipping so I'll probably get billed on the 31st and get the phone on the 1st
Unfortunately it seems this deal isnt for everyone. Upon clicking the link for the discount, all it lists is a 15% discount, and browsing the phone selection doesnt bring up the epic at all.

It clearly states that the 15% is for students and 23% for Rhode Island students.
The Epic isnt out yet, so of course it doesnt show up on the Sprint website. You can, however, fill out the pre-order form attached and email it to [email protected] to preorder with the appropriate discount.

Buy the phone from this site with the simply everything plan ($99.99). Once you have the phone go to sprint.com and chat with a support rep. Complain how the phone was activated under the wrong plan and just tell thing you want the Simply Everything Plus 500.
Worked for me back when I got my Pre *
*Except my phone actually was processed under the wrong plan (some 139.99 family plan)

Well, I certainly woke up to a pleasant surprise. I've been stuck with having to buy the Evo on Wirefly to claim a hundred dollar savings I had won, only to see that the final price is thirty dollars lower than I expected! You pay $169.99 with a 35 dollar activation fee. There's no taxes, and the FedEx shipping is free.
For those of you wondering, Wirefly is a reputable place to purchase from. Two weeks ago, I purchased two blackberry Curves and a Hero from them with a new contract. They waived the activation fee via a promotion, shipped it within twenty four hours of ordering via two day FedEx for free, and the phones arrived in two days after it was shipped. The only problem is speaking to their sales department; it consists of nothing but overseas representatives who are difficult to understand at times and try to push device protection on your devices constantly. If you order online, though, there's absolutely no issues. They allow you to check on the status of your order, and include every detail of the purchase and plan in the sales receipt if you want to make changes.
Just thought I'd share this great deal .
Edit: Oh! I also forgot to mention that Wirefly is a partner of Bing Cashback. When you order through Bing, you get $50 cash back on your account. That brings the total cost of the device down to $119.99. Sounds good to me!
I have used Wirefly 3 times before and they are great! I am impatient and do not want to wait for my phone this time though haha
That sounds pretty awesome! I'm going to have to see what I can do with this one.
If ordering from them do you know if I can port a phone number?

Yes, you can port your phone number through them. I transferred my parent's and brother's numbers from Metro PCS to the Sprint phones without a problem.
I wonder what will happen if someone tries to upgrade who is not eligible for an upgrade and who is still on contract. I went through the motion of buying it there and the final price came to $180 or something. Wonder what would happen after I get the phone.

can't you just call up sprint once your order is processed to add the discount? nowhere in their terms state you can't add discount; it says you can't switch to a lower service plan, but adding a discount isn't lowering the service plan
here's the terms of their instant discount:
INSTANT DISCOUNTS
Wirefly promises you savings in the form of instant discounts with no rebates or gimmicks when you sign up for wireless carrier service. Delivering on this promise means that you must agree to maintain your agreement for a minimum of 6 months after activation. Deactivating your phone, or downgrading features or the rate plan, may lead to additional charges.
When you sign up for wireless carrier service through Wirefly, we discount your phone purchase price by an Equipment Discount amount ranging from $200 to $300. By ordering through Wirefly, you agree to repay this discount if, during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, if you:
Fail to pay your balance due to your carrier each month
Disconnect this line of service
Transfer this equipment to another line of service
Change your carrier service rate plan to a lower monthly service rate plan
Deactivate the email/data feature if one was required at the point of purchase
Transfer/port an existing phone number from another account if this is a new line of service
Replace an existing account with this account if this is a new line of service
Return or exchange your phone and it is not in its original, new condition with no more than 30 minutes of usage
If you break any of these contract provisions, except as a result of a documented service quality issue related to the carrier service, you authorize us to charge your credit card in repayment of the Equipment Discount.
EDIT: they changed the price to $189.99
As of 4:30 this afternoon, Wirefly has officially run out of HTC Evos. The site lists the next shipment time in five to seven days. Fortunately, I was able to get my order placed at 4:00. Unless you really want that $50 rebate, I'd look toward other stores.
These things are selling out an alarming rate.
Now it says shipping within 20 days...
Oh man. Still $50 is probably worth it considering I still have my iPhone for the time being.
i know letstalk is getting shipment June 10, but they still have backorders they need to fulfill; don't know any other place where i can get it without waiting for the mail in rebate
sprint online store has them in stock and can receive in 2-5 days, but not willing to pay $1049 now and have to wait for rebates for 2-4 months

You couldn't be more correct. I stupidly placed the order for my parents and brother via Wirefly's sales department via phone, and it was a horrendous experience. It took over an hour for the idiot to understand what I wanted, write my name down properly, and to shut up about the extended warranty and accessories.
That being said, that's what the online store is for. It's just like the rest of them.
Also, wow. Shipping within 20 days? I was 15 minutes away from having to wait a month for my Evo to arrive? Insane.
I got lucky and got my order in before they raised the price. 169 + 50 bing cash back plus avoiding 45$ in taxes here in CA. It arrives tomorrow =).

Holy crap, shut up! Mine is arriving tomorrow as well! . Of course, I placed my order when it was back at $189.99, but it's still a great deal.
Any idea what'd happen if I tried to order this even though I'm not eligible for an upgrade from Sprint? I'm trying to see if I can grab one of these to participate in development. Although, I'm not sure I'm willing to blow $450 for the privilege.
Ok. I'm on Wirefly and I want to add this phone as a new line on a family plan.
I am seeing:
Service Plan: $9.99/month
Sprint Data Pack - mobile web, web-based email, and basic Sprint TV/Music: $15.00/month
4G Premium Data: $10.00/month
What's that $15/month part? If my family is already on the Any Mobile Any Time with data included, is that required?
I want to try and put this in ASAP!

It does look like I can get this for $189 (+$50 bing cashback) if I select that I would like to extend my contract with Sprint. I'm a little curious about this, you'd think that I shouldn't be able to do this, but at the same time Wirefly probably has no idea that I started my contract in November 09. I'm just worried about what happens when I get the phone! Is no one the wiser? Do people just not know? Maybe I should try this out and give you all an update as to the outcome. I'm willing to bet if there's some kind of foul up and a cancellation charge appears on my account, I could possibly settle it with Sprint feigning ignorance. It's not like I want to jump ship or anything after all, I like Sprint.
Hope you find out. I'm on my hero and not due for upgrade or anything... I wanna upgrade to evolution from hero, but don't have hundreds of dollars

For the rest of the day you get no activation fee ($36) when you buy the Epic 4G.
They only charge $239 for the phone to begin with. Given that I live in CA my savings were:
Tax: $28
Activation Fee: $36
Discount: $10
Total: $74 saved
Also I am not sure if I will get it but entering code WIREFLYBLUE22 should give you a free Bluetooth headset. People are reporting a 83% success rate on the site I found the code listed.

Yup, thats going to be your out the door price. You could always try Best Buy or radio Shack to get the instant rebate at the counter
Tax with sprint or any other store at that will charge tax off of the base price not the discounted price I believe, thats over 40 bucks in CA.
So look for no taxes, if you are worried about that.

I bit the bullet with Wirefly. My advice for anyone else considering this option is make sure you understand exactly what they are doing with your Sprint account. Somehow the call center ppl put the wrong plan after I had told them many many times how I wasn't looking to change the plans on my account at all.
Has anyone else had good experiences with this company? They seem like a lot of frustration
Wirefly is sketch. They have this bull**** 6 month rule when you cancel your new contract within 6 months with any of the carriers, then they bill you $300 for "equipment recovery fee". So, for Verizon, I got hit with $375 from Verizon for ETF and $300 from Wirefly for a ****ing Droid 1 that I bought for $189. Do the math. They ****ing tried to rape me. AND, on top of that, they charged $300 to the same debit card I used to do the original transaction about EIGHT MONTHS after I originally did business with Wirefly. They did that illegally without my permission. They had paper billed me for it and I was telling myself "no way they're getting $300 when the phone was only worth $449".. then a $300 charge from "Simplexity" shows up on my bank statement.
Hate Wirefly. And, their "discounts" aren't even ****ing discounts. $10 off a phone? Give me a break.
I got the phone from Wirefly. I knew going into it the 6 month rule and I do not plan on making any changes or cancelling in that time. Also they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, so I can return in 30 days without issue.
I know they have a bad rep, but here is why I got it from them anyway.
No tax in California
Amazon only does new contracts

I'm not sure how long it will take, they had a overnight, 2 day, and free shipping options. I went with free. I did notice Amazon says "Ships in 7-8 days" so they are not even shipping on the 31st.
Good luck everyone who went this route. I chickened out and decided to not go with wirefly. I'm glad I didn't, they are sketch and I don't like dealing with online chats and outsourced call centers for "customer support"
Pretty nice feature.
Great News! We received authorization to begin shipping the new Samsung Epic for all approved orders beginning tomorrow, August 31. Please continue to check your email and our online Customer Support site for updated information.

NEW contract, being the key phrase. Before anyone asks, no they do not do upgrades for Sprint. Amazon has some deal with Sprint where they cannot handle upgrades at this time. At least this is what I have read numerous times.
They still charge the $36 activation fee.
Soo... Do you think "New" contract include converting a single line to a family line and adding Epic's as the add-a-lines?
I don't see how to contact Amazon wireless for doing these kind of family plan changes with adding lines.
Yeah man but if your at the end of your service contract it works to, also alot of us that are getting the epic 4g are switching from carriers like verizon for it, anyway the cheapest it's been is $250 so atleast credit it me with the find man don't knock it, this is useful to some people,

laugh out Loud Kind Sir, The update to said gentlema's post regarding the availability of The Epic 4G through amazon.com transcended naught but an evening before my original post. I Have no petty concerns for being the first at anything with regards to the internet; I only aspired to save coin from my fellow man's purse.
plus one collegiate points for the attempted correction please, minus the 5 i have to award to you for quoting an Epic movie leaves me at negative four =( yes the pun was slightly intended when i said Epic but only to the extent that would allow me to say no pun intended. good day Sir!
Just so everyone knows, right now amazon.com is showing as "Usually ships within 2 - 3 weeks." for me. Not sure why it suddenly jumped such a huge amount, it might be some amazon.com safe estimate thing, but it definitely has me worried that this phone will sell out. However they are offering it for a killer price.
it now says ships in 2-3 weeks!!!!!
im sorry, id much rather get it on launch from sprint for 350, and then get my $100 back 4 weeks later when you are just unboxing your phone
hmm should I go this route? no taxes ( about a $60 dollar savings here in Los Angeles ) plus I get $40 cash back if I use my amazon card. so thats a $150 savings..aside the instant rebate.
edit: its a no brainer. I just placed the order Im saving a good amount for the wait. est ship is September 14, 2010 - September 21, 2010.
So I guess the dates aren't arbitrary or random. Great to know that it's first come, first serve. I ordered mines yesterday morning and ship dates show sept 8-9.
Come the 31-1st if it doesn't ship and if I can happen to get one else where, I'll probably cancel. But deal was too good to pass up, so I had to get my place in line. I too hope it doesn't sell out, but as long as I can cancel before it actually ships, no biggie.
I like to look at it as insurance, if I happen to not be able to get it else where, at the very least I know I got a chance getting it on that date (so I hope).
I had the evo by the way.. returned it, but once it was sold out, it was sold out. So I'm making sure I get my epic before they go as well.

I just did this as a back up as well, but with the cost savings I might just stick with the Amazon order.
Do you know if we have to pay the activation fee when signing up through Amazon?
And if so, are we able to get it waived by using the AAA discount by calling sprint?
Edit: Looks like Amazon does charge the activation fee, bummer. But I have heard of people calling after activation to have work discounts or AAA discounts added and Sprint refunding the activation fee.
I you're a student and on Sprint, this might interest you.
http://www.studentrate.com/STUDENTRATE/all/get-all-student-deals/Sprint-Student-Rate-Member-Discount--/0
Is this one of the discounts they're discontinuing next month?
Read the fine text: Has to be used online, and from what I gather, you'll basically be renewing your contract for another two years, signing a new contract, or adding a line (see first consequence).
While 23% is nicer than the 20% I get through working for a municipality, I'll stick with my 20% for now. Thanks though!
They originally offered 15%, which I signed up for at first, then about a month ago they upped the discount to 23%. Think they also have a T-Mobile 25% discount. All you need to sign up is a .edu email addrress. Doesn't even have to be yours, just get someone to let you use it.
Now I get 25% off recurring fees per month and 50% accessories through work :O

Fortunately I ordered online at midnight from the studentrate site on release day and had an EVO 3 days later. I feel bad for people who have been waiting 3 months. With the 23% discount my bill is $70/month after taxes and everything. It kind of takes the sting out of the $10 charge, but the thought of paying $10 less with another smartphone just brings the pain right back.
Any other discounts that I dont have to resign 2 years for? I just got the Evo and im paying 100+ a month on this 79.99 play ugh, help!

If you just bought your phone and service with Sprint, I suggest hopping on a discount soon because it will only extend your contract for a month or however long you've had your phone. It doesn't add 2 years to the end of your contract, it just starts a new 2 year agreement. Unless you already had service with Sprint, you won't be adding much to the length of your contract if you do it soon.
I bought my Evo through Studentrate when it was first released and have the 15% discount. Are you saying that I can somehow switch that to a 23% discount without buying anything? Anyone actually done that and if so, how?

I don't remember exactly how I did it, you just click the link for the discount at the studentrate site. I think down at the bottom of the RI Sprint page it will say something about adding a discount to a line. Then you enter your info and Sprint will notify you if you qualify. YMMV.

Oops. I didn't even notice that this is for Rhode Island students and alumni only. Nevermind.
Thanks for the info.

I bought my Evo through Studentrate when it was first released and have the 15% discount. Are you saying that I can somehow switch that to a 23% discount without buying anything? Anyone actually done that and if so, how?

Yes it can be done. S.W.I.M. signed up with the 15 percent discount and as soon as the 23 percent discount became available...he migrated to it.
Actually what you should have done, since you are a member over there, is read the 30+ page thread about this.
you dont need to purchase your phone through them or extend your contract. I got this discount directly through sprint, it was 15% when i first signed up back in october. I had to be very persistent, it took me more than one call. You also have to have the primary account holder be the owner of the .edu email address. I will try to get them to increase my discount to 23% now that it is a higher discount, maybe they did it automatically I didnt check my last bill yet.

The normal student discount is 15%, but there is a discount only for members of a certain Rhode Island education association that is 23%. Not every student is eligible for the 23% so I doubt Sprint increased your discount. When you sign up for the 23% discount online it clearly states that your contract will be renewed, but maybe by calling a Sprint rep like you did, one might be able to keep the same contract termination date with some haggling.
I get 23% off for being a Chrysler employee. Also can upgrade every year.

Go back to your SR account, go through the same steps as when you were ordering, get the new code, then go to the website that's given, apply the code and you'll receive an email within a day stating that you've been approved for the 23% discount. I've been rocking it for 2 months and I'm kind of pissed that I'll be loosing it on the 3rd line.
Oh, BTW, did you ever get your $50/per line invoice credits for each evo - should have been on split over the first and second bill. We never got ours, so I called, chatted and finally got the $150 (3 evos) today. Now I'd like to know where that damn rebate is...

I forgot all about that invoice credit. I'm checking my last two bills and I'm not seeing any credits. Luckily I keep all paperwork and I have the original order invoice that lists the credit that I should receive. Who did you call? Studentrate or Sprint?
edit: My rebate shows that it has mailed so I'm not too worried about that. Already got and cashed the 25 bucks from studentrate.

Okay.. I was able to reproduce problems. Big bummer! AT&T's probably just got some sort of web error messing things up. I know they'll have pre-orders for current customers.
I just ordered it for 500 off contract. AT/T owes me an override for the problems with my captivate so I plan to call them in the morning and get it at the upgrade price, but wanted to make sure DG didnt order 80 of them and buy em all...

BTW: Mine still says only $399 off-contract with the discount.
Their website is all KINDS of screwed up. The Premier side of things won't let you order a data plan with the Atrix which prevents you from getting any discount...I don't understand how they can so completely screw up pre-orders...It's certainly not very confidence inspiring.
Oh, and FYI, this may be the "official" thread but there've already been several threads about pre-orders.

You're pretty daring hoping they'll be able to fix the order layer seeing as you've committed to the $500 price and offered your payment information already. All I can say is, GOOD LUCK!

I didn't mean it as official thread! I meant to say that's the official pricing... and that it's officially up and live. Not official thread!
Yes, I hope their web dev team straightens this stuff out.

I logged all the way out, and logged back into the premier account as if I wanted to upgrade my existing phone, then it showed it to me for 500 and let me order it.

I'm praying that they don't retract that $399 price.
PS I've found that the site is completely hosed up in Chrome, looks correct and all the data fills in right in IE (8). Weirdness...
