Hi everyone,
I've been having a bit of a problem since I've updated my phone to Froyo. I'm having the problem where I can use my camera w/out a problem but the minute I switch over to the video recording mode, everything locks up and the phone resets on me. Has anyone encounter this issue before and if so what was the remedy. I did try to revert back to the latest 2.1 and updated to 2.2 but it still was the same problem. Thanks in advance for your time and input.
Below is a quick background on my N1:
-Unlocked boot loader and rooted the phone.
-Did run a custom rom ( before 2.2) at one point but went back to the stock rom
- No Radio has been updated from the upgrades I've done (not that i'm aware of).
- Baseband version 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
- Kernel Version - 2.6.32.9-27227-g3c98b0d andriod [email protected]#1
- Build # FRF91
Been covered numerous times, you need to upgrade the radio.

Hi. I have an HTC hero from Telus. I was extremely happy with my phone's operation until I upgraded it to 2.1. This is the Telus upgrade and I have not rooted my phone (yet).
Ever since then:
* have been dropping calls
* have been losing antenna
* not able to make a call: I would have to try 2 or sometime even 3 times to be able to dial a number
* some of my text messages are not received by the recipients
I have done a hard reset after I upgraded my phone, but it did not help. I only have a total of 5 or 6 apps installed. After the hard reset, I waited before installing the apps. Even without any of the apps installed, I was still dropping calls.
My guess is that there is an issue with the baseband version that came with the new (2.1) install. Here is what I have right now:
baseband: 63.18.55.06SU_6.35.17.03
Kernel: 2.6.29-7527f009
build#: 3.36.661.1 CL199109
SW#: 3.36.661.1
Any ideas on what I can do to make things as stable as they were on 1.5? I'm guessing I will have to root my phone and install a different version on it, considering HTC or Telus won't be fixing this issue any time soon.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can use to make the PHONE functionality most stable? (I use my phone as a phone first and then other things). Which baseband version and which SW version? I don't have a preference between 1.5, 2.1, or 2.2 as long as it's stable.
Thanks for your help.
Update your radio pal. Start with the newest, if it is not perfect, try the next one along. Google "villain rom GSM hero radio" for the links. Use btdag's noob guide in the dev section for a quality tutorial on flashing roms and radios.
Pretty sure the OP already has the latest and greatest radio. This radio gets the best signal strength for me with slightly more battery drain than before.
OP, where in the country do you reside?
Since I've been using 2.2 ROMs for the last few months, I suggest trying these for stability:
*AOSP ROMs*
Elelinux-6.2.0-RC0-Hero (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906552)
Floyo 1.2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784689)
An online buddy of mine (who has thoroughly tested all the ROMs) says Cronos 2.1 is a good one:
*Sense ROMs*
Cronos 2.1.4.1 Sense Eclair (http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=279)
Cronos 2.1.4.2 Light Eclair(http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=397)
Thanks. I will pick one of the ones you suggested and root my phone this weekend. I'll report back if the problem doesn't go away.
Had the same problem as you, the solution i found is to use "WCDMA only" and not "GSM / WCDMA auto " in network mode. Works great since.
I am on Telus with their 2.1
I was already on WCDMA preferred. Changing it to WCDMA only didn't make a difference.
I rooted last night and tried the Elelinux-6.2.0-RC0-Hero first. But really missed the feel of sense. Cronos site was down last night, so I went with Tegro-2.3 for now. I haven't upgraded the radio from the base recovery image yet. I'll wait and see how things work. Now that I am setup for rooting, I will change until I find a build that is fully operational and has no lag.
Thanks everyone.
I use HTC Hero Cronos Ginger 1.0.1 now, it's like having a new phone, everything is perfect and very very really very fast.
excuse me may I ask you that what radio room is?
is it included in our ROM ( such as elelinux , cyanogen v.v.....) or it must be install in another way?
Hi,
I am in India and had bought a Desire HD here(software 1.32.720.6), but i think after the OTA to froyo, the gps stopped working. I tried every solution I could find to fix this without rooting the phone but it did not help. I tried rebooting, factory setting, GPS Status type tools, standing for hours in clear sky etc.
Finally I rooted and installed Leedroid gingerbread rom, but even that didn't help.
What finally helped was the flash of a new radio! I installed the radio which was recommend by Leedroid and all seems fine now!
So I think HTC's radio had some issues, which are resolved in this ver of radio.
Now I am able to quickly find about 9 satellites and lock to it.
Anybody going to try this, should NOT forget to keep his backups of the partition 7, 17, original hboot and nandroid backup asap. Let me know if you have any queries.
I installed Leedroid from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056727
The ver of Radio which fixed my issue was 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Other than that I now have Leedroid ROM ver 3.0.3 and Leedroid Kernel 3.1.1
Back to using Waze now using Gingerbread!
hello dude, sometimes i use the camera take photo and the system well crash...
i have installed the camrea fix "GBCameraFix.zip" in this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038701
and i have installed the latest combradio is
EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_2.15_003
somebody know??...help...
All I know is I flashed the rooted rom and my video camera would force close every time I tried to use it. I was still on the froyo radios.
i nandroided back to old rom. everything works on it.
So I don't have to start a new thread, I am running the above rom -- I came from the stock 3.70.651.1 deodexed rom. In the 3.70.651.1 rom, the number for the battery life overlapped the green indicator at the top. Is there an easy way to get this number back up there in the new rom?
Thanks for any help.
Hi All,
I've done literally weeks of research on this, so hopefully I've not missed any easy posts, but I want to check my approach and ask a final question. This is my daily phone, and while I know the risks and issues with custom roms, I want to get it right. Hope someone can advise.
ROM I want to install is Quarx's JB 4.1.2 CM10.
Phone I have is UK Motorola Defy (Red Lens, original):
System version: Blur_Version_2.21.0.MB525.Retail.en.GB
Model Number: MB525
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: EPU93ST2_U_03.02.00
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
My plan is:
1. Official upgrade to Froyo - it seems this is not yet done on mine, and custom ROMs require its Kernel, I read
2. Root phone - SuperOneClick
3. Titanium Backup - Needs Root
4. ClockWorkMod Recovery - Needs Root, and gives me Nandroid Backup capability in BootLoader
5. Nandroid Backup - this should provide me a route back to stock (* see question below)
6. Flash ROM - this will give me CM10 based on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
Question is, despite reading many threads, I'm still confused on CG versions and SMG file versions (CG##.smg). I do want to be able to flash back to stock after this, in case I want to sell the phone - if I flash up to Quarx's CM10 JB 4.1.2, what CG version is it and is it higher than I can possibly get back to stock from? Or can I find a Fixed SBF of a Stock ROM that will let me go back? How can I best prepare for this?
Anything else to be aware of or concerned about?
Thanks very much.
Steve.
The easiest approach is to directly flash cm10 first and check off it works(you can flash back your stock sbf if there's any problem) because CM10 WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CG VERSION
The potential problem you can face(which can not stop you from stock sbf flash) is an incompatibility of 2ndboot with your stock kernel.
If you run into that problem (which I think should not occur) you will have to flash a compatible sbf, with higher cg version and a compatible stock kernel.

Thanks - good to know CM10 has no CG version. I expected the developers to want to get rid of that kind of limitation as soon as they could!
Hmmm, so could someone confirm, that Quarx's CM10 will flash directly over the stock 2.1 Eclair ROM as listed above (with root/CWM), and doesn't need Froyo deployed as a base? That would really help if so - then I have no further considerations and I can just get on with it. I'll take it carefully and I'd rather not be faced with non-booting etc the first time round.
I believe wifi tethering doesn't work on it, though, or there's some problem with restarting regarding wifi tether. That's a shame, but maybe an app like Barnacle or OpenGarden can work instead...?
You could try it yourself by taking a Nandroid backup and if you face the non booting problem then flash stock sbf+ restore. Beware that sometimes first boot hangs or bootloops and in such cases you can fix the problem with a battery pull, or data wipe respectively
Open garden works without issues
Hit thanks!

Ill be straight to the point.. most of us have been using cm9 which is ics 4.0.0 since august 2012,each week, well sometimes every two weeks, since they are missing weeks. Cm9 is a nightly, which means there are bugs and issues, since teh rom is not stable. However, most of the problems have been fix and I have had not had any real issues with it, I do use it day to day, till a new custom rom (based off a previous cm9 nightly release) comes out that I want to try. but the roms has come a long way since build 1.
If something went wrong? like you bricked your phone. There is two ways.. create a back up in cwm before you flash cm9... or you can used kdz, which is used to recovery your phone if your brick it or you want to upgrade or download your firmware.
Also please give me more info about your phone. Like what baseband you are using, what country etc.
Also there are some stock custom roms, which are modified version of stock (2.3.6). With features like 1000 GHz overclock, new launcher, file manager and other useful tweaks/mods

Upgrade to the latest firmware using the Lg firmware site. Also make sure you do a back up when you install cmw, before you flash cm9. Also you might want to download the 1GHz Kernel, even if you dont plan to overclock, it will get rid of the battery bug on start up.
