Is it possible that I am the only one that needs this? :?

Thanks for the help, but it was a bit insulting... or at least I got it like that (I may be wrong)...
i'd also like to know this
The only way that i managed to get the real player doing streaming video over my wifi on my exec was to run a free rstp proxy (ccproxy) on my pc and then it worked.
RTSP over 3gp
Does anyone have the "HTC Streaming Media" version 2.1 for Universal? I tried to install the Hermes "HTC Streaming Media" version 2.1 into Universal but fails.
Thanks for help.

i have v2 with me but never tried it....
if you want it i could send it to you....
btw isnt it supported by tcpmp???
The streaming media app doesn't support Real (tm) streams from what I've tried, but it does stream 3gp. I've extracted it from the Cheetah. Once I have the bugs worked out for a cab install I'll make it available.
Question: are there any good 3gp streaming sites? I had a hard time trying to find any by doing a google search.
I'll jump in the boat..
I've been looking forever for a decent RTSP player...
and i've tried real player and a whole heap of other crap to no avail still.

Hi, I was wondering if you had worked out the bugs in that Streaming Media cab file as I'd like to stream some TV clips via Vodafone Live.

Have you read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=344&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 ?
<bump> Does anyone have the "Streaming Media" application?
I found it lurking in a TyTN ROM bundled with the camera application but when I attempted an installation it ended up stuffing up the camera application and the streaming media application didn't work either.
Any solutions here?
I know the international version has DLNA support does the vibrant have it? I think the International version uses an Allshare DLNA app or something, I'm not to familiar with it.
I can confirm that the Vibrant does have the allshare DLNA app also.
I didn't even realize it had it until I read your post and took a peek for myself.
I just tested the Vibrant DLNA sharing feature on my PS3.
Played music my Mac using MediaLink. It seems to work nicely.
PS3 sees the new server and plays files from it.
The one thing I couldn't do is push a video to the PS3 and make it play. It seems the PS3 needs to be the one requesting to play the file.

How were you able to get your PS3 to play the video type? I was able to access the videos on my internal memory (16GB), but not my SD card (Avatar). But then it just said Unsupported File Type or whatever.
Is there a way to get the PS3 to play other types of video files than what it comes with stock?
you wont be able to see avatar because of copy right... anything copy written can not be seen over dlna.....
n00b question here, but where and how do I use DLNA on the Vibrant? I just got the phone and I am new to XDA... plz be gentle. LoL
Edit:

Sorry, I should have been specific. I played music, but Did not try video.
Use the allshare app to use DLNA.

Is there DLNA software we can download/install to the PC, to turn the PC into a DLNA server and send files to the phone over my home wifi? (Windows XP Sp3) ... Be easier than having to plug in the USB cable.

you should be able to use windows media player to share content. I'm not sure this method allows you to push content back to your pc
Open Windows Media Player > Library > Media Sharing and mess with settings there
Currently 2.1 "All Share" will not play mkv's via lan.
Can a froyo user test the following methods.
Using a network file manager app like Astro, are you able to play a MKV from lan?
Via Allshare can you play a MKV from lan?
My Synology 107+ contains 3 small test files : one avi(Xvid), one mpg(MPEG2) and og one mkv(x264)
My I9000 JPK with OCLF could not play any of them!!!
I think they all worked on JM8!!!
Regards,
JKay
I tried avi format with my Philipf 46PFL9704, and it works fine!
But Mkv and default video it doesen't open 'cos it hasn't good codecs..
No luck with mkv or xvid (avi) through allshare on jpk.
Also its worth mentioning that the same files I tested play perfectly directly on the phone..

It has nothing to do with codecs. Copy the same file to your device and it will play fine. It is a problem with AllShare, and it seems like it is still broken in the Froyo update. Which doesn't surprise me since AllShare is not part of Android.
Guys, as I understand, Allshare is only used to transfer files to a player. Playing mkv or anything has to do with the player's capability. Firmware won't change the experience!

I rename my .mkv files to .avi.
Media Player 11 then picks them up as shareable, and I can stream them without problems via AllShare to my i9000.
Only problem is, you cannot seek, so you have to watch from the beginning.
I've streamed MKVs from my phone to my Western Digital TV box, with JF3 and JM2...
my allshare cannot find my laptop after I upgraded to 2.2 JPM.. anyone else have this issue?
I have reflashed and it still has this problem..
I also have a problem where the phone will connect to one of my routers at home, but will not connect to the repeater bridge router in my room which has identical settings as my main router..
Along with Allshare not working, these two features were working fine before, and now after I flashed froyo JPM, it stopped working..
When I tried going back to stock firmware, it still didnt work..
Any ideas guys? Thanks!
I'm having same problems.
Upgraded my Samsung Galaxy to Froyo and now can't play .mkv files via allshare anymore. This is so frustrating, I thought Froyo was all singing and going to make the Android device the ultimate weapon. I have tried other andriod .mkv players and all have the same problem <media not recognised>
Hi,
actually, after the update, AllShare is more or less completely broken. First of all, a firmware upgrade will most likely not help, because AllShare is not part of android at all.
Regarding another post: A media server does not only offer the video to a network source, it obeys to a certain standard (DLNA), which is why you will always find your MKVs being transcoded to some sort of MPEG stream before playing. The Media SERVER has all the work providing ready-to-go video, most likely with as little compression as possible. DLNA ist not just a samba share. It is way more than that.
Can anyone confirm the MP3 behavior I am experiencing? MP3s play fine for the first 30 seconds, somewhere around that they start skipping around and finally stop when played through my PS3 media client.
Samsung Galaxy S i9000, lagfixed, JPO.
Cheers.
Andreas
This is a real pain in the bum.. there must be a way to get the mkv files to stream from my server to my phone. It worked perfectly on the Android 2.1 version : (
I wonder who makes Allshare and if they are aware of the problem? Alternatively does anyone know any other program that can stream .mkv files to the Galaxy? I really don't want to start having to load an 8gb file on to the card to play it : /
There's another thread on this in the Vibrant forum. No news there either.

Hmm never tried Allshare but regarding Astro I've never gotten it to play anything from a network share, always had to copy to the SD card first. That does take an annoyingly long time so I'll watch for progress on this as well (for whenever I actually get a working SGS back in my hands ).
Try using ES File Explorer as it seems better than Astro and has its own video player which streams from FTP and file shares OK for me.

Yes, but it lacks tracking (skipping in a file) and also doesn't support MKV.

AllShare is a DLNA program. It is capable of functioning both as a client and as a server. It sounds like you want to play back PC files on your phone. For this you would need something acting as a DLNA server. If your NAS doesn't support this then you could install a server program on something else and point it to your NAS for content. This could be a spare computer, a device specifically made for this, or even some routers.
Try to use another media server like PS3 Media server or tvirsity. DNLA will not support MKV files.
Using PS3 Media server I can stream mkv to my ps3 and my Samsung LCD tv that supports DNLA.
Does anyone have all share working? It sees my ps3 medIa server and folders but when I try and play vIdeo I get an error message.
Vids are avi xvids or divx mainly. Somthing twlls me the app just dosnt work properly.

Mine works, I played some torrented tv off of mine not too long ago.
I should say I played video on my PS3 streaming from allshare on my tab

I haven't tried AllShare, but after my experiences with DLNA client on my Samsung TV I will not bother and try to find another DLNA client for Android.
I've streamed from my Tab to a Windows Media Centre PC and it worked fine.
The only "oddity" is that in AllShare, I can select the "Server" ok, but but I can't seem to actually select the "Display Device" so that I can press the next button. However, Media Centre can see the Tab, and can stream from it.
Regards,
Dave
Your best bet for a DLNA server is Tversity if you need transcoding.
If you don't, Samsung released their own DLNA server, the Samsung PC Share Manager, for their TVs. This server works fine to stream over AVIs and content that will play natively on the Tab anyway.
PS3 Media Server transcodes to streams not supported by the Tab.. it's a poor choice as it's tailored so specifically for the PS3.
Tried tversity still no luck with this allshare app. Would be nice to get this working.

Tried PS3 Media Sever and no luck. Basic media sharing on my WHS and my win7 box allows me to stream avi's but not MKVs. MKVs do play natively though so its the default player that is having the issue I think.
I wrote a quick "how-to" a bit ago here.

What is the error ? "an error message" makes diagnosis difficult.
PS3 Media server uses reasonably standard DLNA protocols, the main problem with most formats is just allshare being _very_ limited in the codecs that it supports.
You're better off getting CIFS working via threads elsewhere in this forum and mounting your media share as a local folder on the GTab. The native video app even plays .MKV files much to my amazement.
"sorry this video cannot be played" thats the message , ill take your reccomendation and check out cifs. I thought that the all share app would support the same vid files as the native player but i guess not.

hi,is it possible to stream movies wirelessly from a vista laptop onto the a500 through the home network? if yes,how do i set it up? cos i've tried everything
Well if you plan to use only on the home network their clear.fi app works. For remote access I have been using subsonic it does require a donation to allow video streaming

Do you know how to get other folders to show up from the clear.fi app? All I can see for video streaming from my PC, is a video/collections folder. I would like to be able to see my media folder that I have on my desktop.
I am using plex and it works very well.

How in the heck did you get plex to work? Did you change the default player to something else? If so how?
I load a movie and it times out on every one. When I contacted the makers of plex they say that it is not working on the acer yet and offer a refund.
I use ps3 media server on the pc and upnplay which is free from the android market for the A500 , The ps3 media server trans-codes on the fly and I use mobo player from upn to play the content. easy as 123 setup and works perfectly and also means I can play any file type. 1080p is a bit jerky but 720p is as smooth as silk. Did I mention its all free

I think that the Acer app only shows/shares the stuff you have in my documents. So you can't watch movies through it if you have them on another HD (like I do sadly).
I am able to see all of my share's on any of my drives. But my home network is wide open on this side of the router.
Might check your sharing settings on you pc, and your firewall if applicable.
i do recomend subsonic wholely just a one time donation unoocks video streaming. you select the folders to share music and movies and the app is free on android and one port needed to be opened to view from anywhere tablet phone or say work computer. also to with the ability to download the content to
I have tried:
Plex: Works but slow as hell and it didn't let me skip a part of the movie so I had to watch every movie from the start.
Subsonic: IMHO a Plex clone so I didn't bother with it and I couldn't test it to see if it streams movies any better.
Upnplay: Ugly and clunky interface but it does stream movies from any UPNP server without installing any additional software and it's free. It uses your default browser and it can skip in a movie so I'm using that. It's not pretty but it does work well.

I won't donate just to test it but the web interface was worse than what Plex offers and I've tried Plex (was not impressed) so I've just skipped it.
As I've said. The best solution is the one that doesn't require any additional software on my PC. So even though Upnplay is ugly it gets the job done.
P.S.: I have my opinions you have yours so unless don't force your on me and I won't force mine on you. I've compiled a list that would be handy for me a few days ago when I was searching for the same thing and I hope that helps someone. Bickering over trivial stuff sure won't.
root your Iconia
setup nls_utf8 and cifs module
mount cifs share using mount manager
use moboplayer to play all the content
Never had a single problem!

Subsonic is free to try, the app is much more intuitive than the web interface when used on an Android device (the web interface of any program that also provides a native application will be much less intuitive on any platform). I'm not saying there is anything wrong with forming an opinion such as yours, but I will say Subsonic and Plex are two different products, trying one piece of one product and using that as a reason to dismiss another different (and competing) product is just being ignorant. If you want to be ignorant, run with it, but don't ask for peoples advice and opinions and simply dismiss them based on your own ignorance. Or, just don't ask for advice if you aren't willing to listen to it. Oh.. wait, that's right.. this isn't even your thread, troll.
Now, as for the OP, if this is simply to watch inside your own network, things like Subsonic, Plex, etc. are more than what you need. All you really need is what mrvanes outlined, or even just a file manager that supports network shares (like File Manager HD, File Expert, EStrongs, etc). Browse to your media and open it (a good file manager will not require to copy to local first) with the program of your choosing.
