[Q] Galaxy S vibrant plays back H264 video but lacks audio - Galaxy S I9000 General

So i downloaded two videos both in mp4 format encoded in h264 with acc audio, it plays the video fine (and looks amazing by the way) but there is no audio... any one care to help me figure this out?

IS the audio like 5.1? if o you gotta use headsets that supports 5.1 audio to hear it.

yes it is 5.1... hmmm i thought this would not be an issue as my computer plays it just fine, and converts it to 2 channel automatically?
is there a way to do this on the galaxy S or is there a way to convert 5.1 to 2 channel in the mp4??

never mind, a quick google helped me out... so for future reference guys: the i9000 cannot playback 5.1 audio natively

Thanks fr the heads up. I had this issue a while ago as well.

(1) Demux (extract) the audio stream with Yamb, (2) transcode the 5.1 AAC stream to 2 ch with MediaCoder Audio Edition, and (3) mux the 2ch AAC back into the MP4 w/ the H264 stream with Yamb. Since it only involves reencoding (transcoding) the audio, it doesn't take very long and the video quality will be unaffected
Yamb
Mediacoder Audio Edition
(1) Demux audio w/ Yamb:
(2) Transcode 6ch AAC to 2ch w/ mediacoder:
Note: Before being able to transcode 5.1 ch AAC to 2 ch you will have to find & paste a enc_aacplus.dll and nscrt.dll to the Mediacoder codecs folder (C:\Program Files\MediaCoder Audio Edition\codecs). If you have WinAmp installed you can find them in its installation folder or if you don't have WinAmp you can probably find them by doing a web search for "enc_aacplus.dll".
I found them linked in another vid forum comments at the first search result for me.
Also, the first time you try to run mediacoder it will open a webpage. You can just check the 'do not open next time mediacoder starts' box and then click 'open mediacoder' instead of doing the online setup.
(3) Mux 2ch & vid stream w/ Yamb:

Trinity video format

I've seen some information spreaded in the forums about video recording on Trinity, and had some troubles watching them on a desktop computers, so here is the results of my research, and the doubts i Still have:
Videos recorded on trinity with maximum quality CIF:
resolution:352x288
Framerate:15fps
container: MP4 (3GPP)
Video codec: MPEG4 (ASP)
Audio codec: AMR - NB (Narrowband)
To properly play videos on your desktop computer you need to install a directshow filter called MP4splitter.
-It is possible to convert video to AVI format (lossless) using mp4cam2avi, but it doesn't work with audio.
-The AMR format is not easy to edit or to transcode to other formats, and it's not possible to use as audio stream on a AVI container (not sure).
Questions
Is there a program to merge several mp4 together lossless (no re-encoding)?
Is it possible to set up another resolution to be used on the video (i.e. 640*480) as this is not a hardware limitation?
Is it possible to use another codec for the audio stream?
Is it possible to use another framerate?
- By editting registry I'm able to change framerate (HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Recparam)
Mediacoder
I use Mediacoder to convert many format of video (recorded on a dvd from TV...) on my htc : choose MP4 and use TCPMP to read it.
Video Conversion
Hi n0t,
Have a look at NCH Software - www.nch.com - and find a program called Prism Video Converter. It can be downloaded as a trial and expires after a while but long enough to try out. It works perfectly and is very simple to use. NCH has a wide selection of software, especially conversion from one format to another. Some programs are free but all are downloaded as trial versions.
Hope this helps
Adam

- MP4Box is a command line that does it, YAMB is a GUI that works fine with it (and it's free). It can split, join and extract streams from MP4 or 3GP container. This way it is possible to edit lossless the video streams.
-I want to be able to edit and apply some filters to the clips with virtualdub. To transcode the video stream to an avi container (lossless) I can use MP4Cam2Avi, Mediacoder, or Super. But I have to convert audio to PCM WAV to use it in virtualdub, as AMR can't be used in an AVI.
Stream Video
Is it possible to make a live video broadcast from trinity (not using videocall)?
This way with an internet connection, it would be possible to send a stream to a computer anywhere...

Video / Audio Encode settings ?

What video/audio settings should be used to encode movies/videos for the Vibrant, before I get mine tomorrow I want to encode a few with avidemux
Once someone provides the settings i'll update the OP for future reference
I haven't used any compression settings yet. lol. I downloaded a 720p mkv and it played PERFECTLY in RockPlayer and Video Player. Only issue was no way to change subs or secondary audio (in mkv's).
thats funny cause one some of the mkvs i've loaded i only get sound and a black screen.. is there codecs for android i don't know about? still a n00b >_<
Both Rock Player and Video player have the mkv container and h.264 codecs built in, shouldn't be a problem. Does the file give you issues in a desktop player? Specifically, VLC?
Oh yeah, Video Player will give you 5.1 sound also!!!!
so... will I be able to download xvid movies/videos that are non-hd and play them? lol that would be siiiick

[Question] Coverting MKV files to playable format....

I have certain MKV files which can be played and ones which cannot be played on my SGS, after a little searching i found it can be due to certain codecs not being supported by the sgs natively.
does anyone know a decent quick converting windows application?
example the MKV file i have is 6 channel audio, which i believe is not supported. i need to convert the audio codec of this.
You need three separate applications to convert your DTS audio to AC3 format that SGS can read. Note that 1080p is not supported so i can't help you there.
The applications you need are:
1. MKV Extract GUI - to extract the dts audio
2. DTS2AC3 - To convert the DTS audio to AC3 audio
3. MKV Merge GUI - to merge the newly created AC3 audio with your mkv file
You can do a good search to find these apps and instruction on how to use
Hope this helps.

check 'popcorn mkv audio converter' - it does all by itself using the tools mentioned by dipac. No hazzle for us, it takes less than a minute to convert a video song without modifying the video quality.
Suggest me an app to do the same for mp4s please.
Dont know if it helps with 6 channel audio, but i could play all mkv files after upgrading to JM2 firmware. Some files didnt play on the old firmware, JF3.

[TIP] Converting video files with unsupported audio encodings

Hi all,
I came across this question on androidforums on how to convert video files with audio encodings which the Galaxy S doesn't (yet) support.
The answer: there is a Windows tool out there called VID2EVA (link to website), originally meant for transcoding Blu-ray and DVD rips for Netgear media streamers
This tool will also convert the audio in individual video files without touching the video (e.g. NO video transcoding) whenever possible, so they can be played back on the Galaxy S. (This is needed mainly to convert DTS and multichannel AAC encodings to AC3 encoding.)
The end result will be MKV format.

Any comments are very welcome.

[Q] Nexus Player Supported Formats

Has anyone found what the supported media formats are for the Nexus Player?
I found the following information below when I search for ChromeCast, but could not find the equivalent for the Nexus Player.
From developers (dot) google (dot) com / cast / docs / media
Supported Media for Google Cast:
Streaming protocols
MP4
WebM
Video codecs
H.264 High Profile Level 4.1, 4.2 and 5
VP8
Audio decoding
HE-AAC
LC-AAC
CELT/Opus
MP3
Vorbis
Wav (audio/wav)
Audio passthrough
AC-3
Good question. I couldn't find any information on this either. One thing I'm going to try tonight is the Antutu Video Tester app. It downloads a video pack of dozens of different codecs and tests playback ability as well as the quality of playback. Should be interesting.
I can say from experience that when running XBMC I've been able to play video_ts folders (DVD rips) and MKV.. The only issue I ran into with video_ts folders was that it took upwards of 10 seconds to start play, and sometimes up to 30-40 seconds to return to the movie list when hitting stop.. MKV play without a hitch and are very snappy.
Hope this helps.
You can add VP9 and H265 to this as per asus site:
https://www.asus.com/ca-en/News/hSqRBkE3JWcSw1zC
Very good news as I use WebM extensively with my current Chromecast and Vorbis audio. Will be nice to use VP9!
I'm really getting tired of seeing so many articles claim that the Nexus Player can use VP9. Maybe it technically can, but it effectively never does, especially not on YouTube where it's needed most and makes the most sense. Anyone know how to force vp9 in the YouTube app?
