OTA fix for "unofficial" .3 now available - EVO 4G General

4.17mb OTA available to go from .3 to .6.
Downloading now...
Edit: Took just a few minutes to download and install, phone rebooted a few times. Everything seems to be working just fine (as it was on .3 for me anyway). Now patiently wait for root, I think I should be done reading about it by the time it eventually gets here...

Just checked, nothing for me yet. That's a bummer.

Nothing here as well...I'm still kicking myself for being an idiot and not thinking before installing .3 ... I knew i wanted to root when 2.2 rolled around, but .... meh don't mind me, just whining my way through

Awesome, downloading now...
EDIT: Works as stated.

Yeah he did with the RUU. I was going to give HTC a week so I didn't lose my data. Glad everyone can get up to date one way or another.

Guess the fixed I posted got HTC to grind some gears and push out that OTA faster. See, all they needed was a little nudge.

I was having issues with the leak so I needed to update as quick as possible and a fresh slate is never really a bad thing. got rid of some apps I never used, got the rest back via app brain. All in all I'm quite thrilled that Android makes the experience of reloading all your settings on a new phone pretty easy.

Did Anyone get the 2.2 OTA, Test build? NOT MANUAL DOWNLOAD!

Yes, you should have been paying attention the last few days. This was a test release sent to a few tech bloggs for review.

Not a single person on the entirety of XDA has received the OTA.
It was press only for people who attended Google I/O.
According to what I have heard, the press people were an accident, that the test build was only supposed to goto some testers.
It seems that some of the press people IMEIs were dumped into the IMEI list by accident and that is why they received the update via OTA.
Google really has not been very vocal about this and that is what is causing the confusion.
It would have been better if they said, N1 community FroYo is due out in x weeks (we hope).
Dan
Who cares how it was released. We got a little Froyo.
Everyone complains about how it doesn't work as expected, needs to chill, considering this was a release candidate.
Personally I installed 2.2 before most, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I don't know why everyone is flipping out, it works perfect to me. I had it freeze up one time, which was when I first booted, and all I had to do was wait a few minutes for it to unfreeze. It runs great for now.
Who gives a crap where it came from and who got it.
I have a question i have a non rooted n1 i manually installed froyo on it will i be able to do the over the air update when the real thing actually comes out?

OTA's are staged out in batches, not all at once. T-Mobile has sold about a million of these phones at this point (given that Samsung claims 3 million SGS Phones sold in the U.S. this is entirely likely). They are most definitely NOT going to update a million phones at the same time.
The update for YOU could come now, tomorrow, next week, or before the end of the month. Sitting here in a thread hitting refresh hoping for vital info about the OTA is a complete waste of time.
You have four options...
1). Wait for the OTA, which will arrive whenever it arrives
2). Frankin Twiz, built on JI6
3). Bionix 1.6, built on JI6
4). leaked unmodified JI6 firmware
Options 2,3,4 will get you JI6 today, with the associated risks of taking the management of the update into your hands. Option 1 is the official option which requires nothing but patience. Decide.
Wonder if I could call T-mobile and naively ask about a GPS problem and see if they will go ahead and push JI6 to me?
Nope nothing in WA I sure hope I won't have to wait til the end of the month....

Ha! You think customer care or tech care have that much power? The people in tmo who do, ssg data, don't take any calls and if they want to, never actually have to talk to the customer at all. They work solely on trouble tickets and work orders. The highest you may get by calling tech is atsg, the people who submit trouble tickets to them.

Did you have lagfix installed? That could be the problem.
On another note, why are so many people waiting patiently for the OTA? Just flash one of the leaks. Bionix 1.6 is well worth it! And you can always ODIN back to stock!

It looks like it bricked my GF's phone also, now im sitting here trying to wipe it. Hers is all stock except it is rooted, no ROMs or lag fixes etc.
I got off the phone with tech support at T Mobile a few hours ago and here is what they related to me. Your inability to get checkin succeeded may or may not be usual or normal, they have no clue and the OTA is scheduled to run from 10-7 thru 10-31. has anyone else or does anyone else have the same inability to get feedback from the checkin code? This is the only phone I have had that the checkin failed to register except for a MT3g which they promptly replaced.
got the update today... no problems so far...

Ok Now That I Re-Installed Swype.....Its Time For Gingerbread :-D

Ok I was aware that Swype had an update, but I never took the time to get it.
But then I heard of the two incremental Android updates that were coming, so
I waited some more to update Swype till I got the two updates (knowing that an Android update means I need to re-install Swype anyways).
So yeah this time I tried 3 times to install it OTA to no avail.
(anyone else not able to get it OTA or was it just me ?)
I finally had to go to Panera Bread and use their wifi connection to download it Friday (I'm wired only at home).
Anyways its my fault Gingerbread isnt here yet, sorry guys.
Now that I've re-installed Swype it will be showing up right away.
Its sort of like...you know how it wont rain until you wash your truck ?

Well I was tired but yes I was fishing for fun responses.
Anyone tried the 8pen keyboard, its almost bizarre, but yet very interesting.
My problem is if I have to type normally I have to have a hard keyboard
and not a virtual keyboard.
I'm stuck on Swype, its the best virtual keyboard I've seen.
Swiftkey is ok but you're still hunting and pecking to type
and thats fine for a hard keyboard but not acceptable for a virtual keyboard.

sad buit its the truth, I came from the evo to this phone, I love it especiallly with custom roms but its obvious that htc is brand of choice for sprint
At least this means that they are working on an update. The only problem I have is with taking videos in low light. But I hardly ever do that so it isn't a deal breaker for me. Everything else is 100 times better than DI18 for what I use.
It says that a hard reset fixes the issues. People that have been running DK28 for a few months are already used to this sort of behavior. You cannot rely on these OTA upgrades. It's like upgrading Windows versions. Wipe and and clean install is always the best policy.

I'm not sure the pull means that. It sounds like the problem is with the updating mechanism, not with EB13 itself. It could easily be just the updating scripts themselves that they are working on.
I do think they are always working on new builds, but I have no idea how seriously they are considering actually making one of those publicly-available nor what sort of time course they might have in mind.
I have heard the issues that Sprint was having (relative is an employee). It's nothing that I would have pulled the OTA over TBH. Stuff like calendar syncing not working (clear data clears that right up). From what I heard it sounds like it's all stuff that is related to user data and cache issues. There was nothing on the list that we didn't already know about.
I knew the data issue on the EB13 modem getting 18kbps & 30kbps was not related to anything else but the modem. Odin back to DK28, & while not real fast, nothing compared to EB13. Epic fail!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
wow, this section is about to be blown apart.
I believe that the OTA was pushed out sensing the increasing noise about the update. It was certainly not ready, and they knew it, I think. They must also have known they might need to pull it back.
One wonders just what happened last year between Samsung and Sprint that caused this mess. It's surprising that even after so many months, they failed to provide a decent update! Can one of the mods, who was in talks with SamsungJohn, throw some much needed light on all this, if SamsungJohn provided some important info., and also if the time frame around the yet-another-update is known.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I may or not not work for sprint and as far as I can tell, these issues only effect the OTA update, not the over the wire update, FWIW...
I think so sprint/samsung should just give us 2.3/.4 and call it a day, I'm upset about the wait but at least toss us some sort of bone for our troubles.

OTA happened for me today too and worked perfectly

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Although I'm rooted I have everything else factory, no missing apps. I wonder what prevents the OTA from happening. Maybe it still will...?
I checked "update android" about 3 am in indiana and started downloading the update. i checked my phone about 8 am and it asked if i wanted to update first thing.
the update when fine, but things run slow. looks like all of my data is there but the rotation lags sometimes and some of my ringtones, notification sounds have changed. thats not a big deal though. the screen rotation lag was about 3 to 4 seconds at one point.
i have yet to restart my phone, maybe i'll give that a try. also my battery is dying fast. it usually lasts about 12 hours, today its going about 8 or 9.
i updated from never rooted, stock di18 over the air to ec05.
I haven't got the OTA (on a custom rom anyway) but would never install anything OTA. Samsung has enough problems with buggy releases to go flashing something like this right over top of what I already have, IMO you're inviting issues if you update like this.
With that said, I just flashed the EC05 modem over my ACS 1.0.2 install and it went flawless. GPS lock is better and 3G seems to be doing better and I didn't have to deal with any of the Sprint ID crap.
Hey everybody I jus got my froyo update today and I dont know what to make of it yet...it looks abit cooler...came wit sprint id crap, I dont see the point in even having that...also I there has been this weird fantasy sounding bg music on my epic and I cannot for the life of me find out where its coming from, uh so if anyone know how get that off I will be greatful...but all in all im diggin this update jus cus my xscope browser now had flash! YaY Me!
Got my update yesterday while at work. Feels a little sluggish versus eclair. The best thing about the update is that it messed with my default ringtone and notification settings. While sitting in my department's staff meeting, I received a call from my wife. No big deal except the ringtone sounds a little bit like a dying barking sea lion. That was pretty fun.
Other than that, so far, so good. Really like apps2sd! I just need to figure out how to delete a SprintID after I download it if I don't like it. (I am sure it I easy, but I haven't bothered trying yet.)
sent from my go-go Gadget phone
I thought I might amuse someone by reporting that I, DroidApprentice, may be the very last person to get the OTA update today after believing through most of last week that something I did to my phone made it not downloadable.
The irony is that I think tonight was to finally be the night where I tried using update.zip manually anyhow. Well, it was cool to see happen I guess. LOL. Now it keeps bugging me. Oh well, it's fated maybe to frustrate me until I manage to get it done and then hopefully it'll be an actual improvement.
