Process "mediaserver" running @ 100% CPU - EVO 4G General

What's the deal. My phone went from 60ish% battery life to 9% in less than a couple of hours. On top of that, it's been running really slow. I knew something was up. Pulled up my handy-dandy SystemPanel and saw that the process "mediaserver" was running at 100% exactly during the time I saw a huge drain in battery. What is this process and how can I avoid this from happening in the future?! I think it started after I played with my camera and camcorder a bit.
Also, I never noticed this happening with previous Fresh versions. Seems consistent with Fresh 3.1.0.1.
Thanks in advance...

It's a bug in your rom that comes into play after using the camcorder. Check out the rom thread, but I don't think there's a fix yet.

I had that happen on one of the nightly builds from CM when I did a upgrade without a wipe. Did Cache wipe and DV Cache and all was well, no idea what caused it though
Now that I think about it I seem to recall it happening after I used the Video Cam and it would flake out and then that Media Server drain would kick in

Freshness!

Good to know it isn't something unique to my phone. I'll peek in at the Fresh thread for the time being. As far as doing a wipe goes. I always do 2x wipe of the cache and DV cache before and after installing anything via recovery. Don't think that would resolve this issue completely.

Make sure your geo-tagging option in the camera is off.

Is that the culprit?! Don't remember ever turning that on.

Anyone else having this issue?! It's really bothering me and it is hindering my camcorder unusable...

bump!!!!!!!!!!

Am I really alone with this issue?! It's consistent with me. Rendering my Camcorder unusable.

[Q]Disable/Enable radio or airplane mode through shell script - fix TWS 50%

I believe I can make a "hack" that will resolve the TWS 50% bug if someone can help me learn how to enable/disable airplane mode (or just the radio) from a shell script...
So does anyone know where this setting is stored and how to update it in a script?
I have reviewed the output of the below code and did not see anything that worked.
Code:
adb shell getprop
I have also reviewed the /sys/ directory on the phone and not yet found anything.
I know it is there somewhere...
ahh, the man! even with a busted phone... here to help!
--------------------------------------------
i've had a "50% TWS" phone for a few days (a friend has been my "test dummy")...
that being said, i think the 50% TWS bug is a "myth" in regards to battery life, etc. it's so random (never happens after a fresh flash... only after a reboot)... and i've flashed about 50 ROMS with NO DIFFERENCE at all
battery life is pretty much identical... so i'm not sure what the deal is (as my buddy says, he just ignores it... as doing the airplane trick has no effect on him).
i've built a 2.1 ROM from RUU with JulyOTA... as soon as it's rebooted after 1st flash, 50% TWS is there. but again, battery life on my phone (no 50% TWS bug) and his are identical (for the most part)... we can each go almost 2 days w/o a charge now.
--------------------------------------------
but... GOOD LUCK. it would be good for "peace of mind" for those that are concerned... as i KNOW ppl will disagree with me
...this...could...be...EPIC!

Exactly. I've found 0 effect on battery life. It's just annoying as hell when you think your battery is draining fast, so you go in there to check it out, and you see 50% TWS.
I agree with you, Tenzo. Although I do understand that some people are concerned with this. I don't even bother doing the airplane trick anymore, because I have also not noticed any difference whether I do or don't.

hmm...
Well I can keep myself from getting connect to the internet but what is the command to turn the radio off and back on?
"netcfg tiwlan0 down" dose turn the internet service off but does not seem to "cycle" the phone in that it does not know that it is off...
interestingly when I run netcfg with airplane mode on tiwlan0 is not listed...
anything more?
I've read something in the JuiceDefender description when turning of 3G or mobile data or something that says "this may turn radio on/off".

Battery drain all of a sudden. It's killing me!

Recently my phone has been dying really fast. I checked battery stats and Android system is what's killing it. I've tried everything to make it stop and nothing works. Does anyone else have this problem? Any idea on how to stop this? PLEASE HELP.

Boot into recovery then do clear cache partition. Should clear out whatever is causing this issue unless that app is still in there

Clearing cache could and probably will get rid of it. But I bought an app called Better Battery Stats, (id link it but im new) which tells you exactly what is waking up your phone while its off. Chances are you have a rouge app, that is just destroying your battery, as opposed to a system-wide problem. That app will tell you what it is.
Ignore the battery charging cycle. I'm just showing you what I have to go through also and somewhat fixed the problem.
I have and still have %50 android os usage. Before I did this mod, the android os was the highest usage and showed awake time as well. It was killing my battery from a full charge it drained down to zero in 12 hours with 1hr screen time and the phone never being in a deep sleep. It was aggravating because I wiped my phone so many times, tried different roms, took sim card out, no wifi, wiped cache, and wiped phone with nothing installed. Still the high android still persist and no deep sleep. I'm thinking it has to be Verizon doing something or Google that is waking up the phone.
Some how I fixed it or maybe the OTA fixed it. I odin mj7 and updated to the newest version and flashed beans. From the screen shot it shows my android os still high... but with no awake time. So my phone is actually in deep sleep mode now. It's weird but I semi - fixed it. I'm still clueless on why it's so high when previously screen time usually trumps as the number one usage spot. I still have no answer to this reason but I hope it helps a bit to fix this issue.

HEY same exact thing here. Android OS usage going nuts here. I personally think its related to certain wifi / router setups.
When im on 3g/4g all day, it doesnt happen. On the days that I am stuck at home on wifi, the android OS usage starts again.
Ive already Odin'd back to MI7, took ota to MJE, rerooted, installed beans b5 and its still happening.
I think its a bug with samsung / verizon wifi. Many times I will wake up my screen and see my GPS / Wifi being used for no apparent reason even with all location services turned off. I also notice my wifi indicators being on when i turn my screen on. Then after i turn my screen on and sit at my home screen for a few seconds. It all magically stops.
Mind you, this is with no apps installed other than what is in beans stock and nova launcher.
You guys should monitor while off wifi and see what happens. It was the first thing that struck me when i was on a road trip for 12 hours. My battery life was exceptional. If it is the wifi causing problems, i wonder what it is specifically.
Simply clearing the cache fixes this for me every time. I usually do it once every few weeks.
Settings..storage..tap on cached data and hit clear.

[Q] I9505 4.4.2 android system battery usage

Hi,
Ever since I upgraded my I9505 to 4.4.2 I've noticed that one of my key battery consumers was Android System (not so on 4.3 or 4.2.2, or whatever I was running before). Right now I'm on the latest DBT ROM, but still the same issue. I've been reading numerous threads on this, tried lots of things even formatting my SD card from within the phone, but still same story. I have Google location services disabled (major issue before), Google Now hot word detection is off, S Voice voice activation is off - nada. I am running stock so getting a wakelock report is a no go. I get decent time on the phone (up to 18 hours per charge), but still want to figure out why Android System is using so much battery (it seems to be CPU time related anyway - phone is properly entering deep sleep when it should). Below is a screenshot of what my battery graph looks like about 2 hours after unplugging the phone from the charger with normal usage. Thanks for ideas!

Any ideas? In the meantime I've done a factory reset, disabled Samsung's bundled apps (e.g. S Voice), tried disabling location services altogether - still same story nothing seems to help. In OS monitor I see a constant Android system activity between 1-9%. Average is around 2-3% but it never stops.... Sadly with the KitKat permissions being what they are I can't get more details.
Here's a graph from today 3 hours after a full charge with minimal phone usage:

Hi ,
With this information is hard to tell what is going on , you need an app like Better Battery Stats
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Let it run for 3 to 4 hours at least and then see who is running wild
Review you settings , location , mail , FB......
Thanks. As I am running non-rooted 4.4.2 I can only see kernel wakelocks which look normal to me:

For posterity's sake - the firmware didn't fix the problem. My Android System, and to some extent Android OS, usage was still pretty bad. After hours of trying various things I've got it though - in my case I had to disable Samsung's Unified Daemon (EUR) and now once more my top consumers are Screen and phone idle! Hope this helps folks.

Mobile Radio active bug in Lollipop

I'm getting this bug in every Lollipop Phone I own. And sadly this bug seems to be present in the M Developer preview too.
Usually my day starts with wifi but as soon as I leave the wifi connection and start using 3G the battery starts to drain.
It has gotten so annoying that I switched back to KitKat and my phones are awesome again.
Present for me on Z3 and S4

I noticed this today. Was using WiFi screen was at about 36% use and Android OS at about 6%. Switched to Mobile data, And before 30 minutes, screen was at 28% and Android OS was 30%+
Crazy really! Don't know if a reboot would fix. Back on WiFi tho and it seems normal again.
The above comment was made by me, my friend logged into his xda on my phone and i didn't know, when i knew it was too late.
Basically every app that uses mobile radio keeps the connection active and drains the battery fast.
As seen in the battery tab with "mobile radio active" for hours.
At first I switched to lollipop I thought its just an "feature" but its the bad bug.
Especially for people who doesn't charge their phone for days because of light usage

Yeh thats a nice Rom, but the bug was present there for me too like in every LP Rom even on CM.

I take it you are on CM now?
The Z3 is now .77 stock KitKat, the s4 is CM11 M11
Thats what it should look like:

so, overall, the power consumption in KK is way better than in L? [assuming similar usage]
cause i bought this phone already on L...
On WiFi it's as good as Kitkat, the problem starts when you have mobile data enabled, from what I hear the issue carried on into the test builds of Android M.
Phonearena even did an article on the issue, and it has the 3rd or 4th most votes on Google 's bug tracker yet it's still labeled as small priority... I hope Sony fixes it by itself somehow.

3 hour battery life. Max!

My V20 sucks electrons faster than a Hemi sucks hi-test. I am very diligent about shutting down apps when I am done with them and making sure the screen stays off. What I have noticed, though, is that, when I look at the "Apps" to see if there is any single one that seems to really be the biggest offender, I find that Quick Memo + (which I have NEVER even opened) accounts for, sometimes, up to 10% of the battery drain between charges... I always Force Stop it when I am there, but, in a couple hours, it will be reporting that it has used 5% - 10% of the charge. Is there any way to shut the damned app down permanently without rooting (I don't have the time to get that far into the phone...)?

Which v20? If the H918, flash my 6.5 ROM.
If H910, wait for the new update tonight (hopefully).
If US996, flash my 5.5 ROM. (update coming at some point)
If VS995, flash my 5.5 ROM. (update coming at some point)
Each device mentioned has its own thread and ROM+kernel.
It's an H910, locked to AT&T.
You can uninstall quick memo+ though I find it weird that it takes that much battery.
You may also want to look into using greenify which can shutdown apps when the screen gets turned off. Made a huge difference on my son's g4.

i had a really short battery life also until i finally switched to a custom rom now my phone last 12+ hours and that's with being on it a lot. including games, streaming music, video's, and calls, text, and lastly web surfing sometimes. Using a custom ROM really fixed my battery problem maybe you guys should try this also. just a friendly suggestion.
Checked on my h910 and quickmemo+ is indeed taking up a crazy amount. I don't think you can disable or uninstall through system either, going to try Greenify. I really want to root my phone but I'm going to be trading it back to ATT in a year and I need to be able to go back fully to stock.

Capture+ is part of Quickmemo+ so it's probably always loaded and ready to take screenshot. Maybe try removing the shortcut on second screen if it is there?
