Hi all,
Sot of new to modding, think I screwed up and could use some help. Was doing this one click speed fix: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7587405&postcount=417
It didn't appear to work the first time, as I received a message and exited the application, however the symbol was still in the notification bar. Re-ran it, and it seemed to have worked, mostly, as the phone was blazing fast. Went immediately to run quadrant and check the benchmark, but it force closed every time it hit the i/o section. tried to go to market, foreclose every time. Figured it may need a reboot, powered off, and that's was all she wrote.
I can get into the battery charging screen and have been able to get to recovery, but nothing else. I haven't used adb or ODIN at all yet, but any assistance is greatly appreciated.
The phone was already rooted, and i have titanium back up and nandroid backups, but don't really know how to get to them.
If you did a nandroid backup, just go in recovery screen and restore backup. If not, flash back to stock rom.
well maybe i dont know what im talking about then. I guess I thought i did a nandroid.
When i go into recovery i get four options: reboot system now, reinstall packages, clear all user data, clear cache data.
none of them work
Did you install clock work recovery via Rom manager?
well it has turned on now. removed sim and memory card and hit reinstall packages. ive got the standard twlauncher running but, it repeatedly gives me force close notifications that android.process.media has stopped and i cannot access the menu

yes, i did. i remember doing that precisely as shown in your tips and tricks thread
alright, so i got it into download mode, gonna reflash everything to stock and see where i went wrong as outlined here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Will update with results, but would be nice to figure out where i went wrong so as not to repeat the error.
If you can get into recovery just wipe and reflash eugenes vibrant4.zip.
Alright, back to stock. unrooted also? gonna mess some more and see if i can get my clockword recovery to restore everything.
okay, so my theory is that the lag fix i used installed an update.zip that overwrote the clockword mod one. Now im just trying to restore using titanium backup, but it is telling me that it doesnt have root access. i know im rooted, as i just did it and reinstalled rom manager and drocap. hmmmmm.....
Thats not all thats funny. i cant find the superuser app anywhere on here. also, i cannot install one from the market.
and im having issues with root explorer.

I would re-root and then follow the flash the ROM mentioned above. There is a thread in the DEV forum.

You need to root again to get the superuser on your phone. As for the one click lag fix, I used to original method and it went pretty well. No problems so far. I also flashed Vibrant4 by Eugene before doing the lag fix. Hope it helps
same thing happened to me. I'm stuck on the galaxy S boot screen. i can get into the samsung recovery screen but not the clockwork recovery. I backed up my nandroid and Rom but don't know how to get into the menu to restore. I only have the update.zip for the lag fix on the internal sd so can't restore that way. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

There may be other ways around it, but I restored fully to stock, then re-rooted. I'm back up and running no problem now. Had some issues with titanium backup but got around that and its batch restoring as i type.

Would you mind saying how you did that?
I tried wiping and flashing the stock via renaming it update.zip, and I'm still getting FC city. Mostly media, but, calendar, everything. I'm going to post a link to this in that thread, since many, it seems, were left hanging in a boot loop.

Just follow what I did through the thread.
I did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 to get back to complete stock, then i had to root it twice. Once did the one click, then the good root here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7150299&postcount=1
back up and running. had to research about titanium backup to get it up and running. I want to do the lag fix still, but im nervous from before.
Your nervous? I really would like to do this but i'm scared (cuss)less.
I've read what needs to be done and think that I've figured it out.
(pretty new to droid)... but, have also read the horror stories here
about bricking your phone...which nowadays can happen to any
phone you have....don't get me started on the apple pie!
But, really when it gets a simple as installing an .APK I'll be happy.

The galaxy s seems pretty hard to brick. I'd say just go for the lag fix. Worse thing that happens is you have to take like 15min to download and use odin to reflash to stock. The lag fix seems pretty safe as long as you stay rooted

Vibrant Recovery Mode HowTo
THIS GUIDE WORKED ON USA T-MOBILE SAMSUNG VIBRANT BUT MAY VERY WELL WORK ON ALL SAMSUNG GALAXYS PHONES
After reading many XDA-Developers Forum Posts to try and figure out how to get into the Recovery Mode / Download Mode without any success, I gave T-Mobile Support a call.
After the usual noop run-down, "did you take the battery out" questions, I simply asked them how to get the Samsung Vibrant into recovery mode.
Unline the many tutorials that claim to require the Up or Down button pressed, along with the Home button then the Power, the true process is as follows:
1. Press the Up and the Down button at the same time (yes both). I too thought that button was a Toggle which only did either Up or Down, but found that in fact it does do both.
2. At the same time, press the power button.
3. As soon as the Samsung / Vibrant logo comes up on the screen, release the power button.
4. Release the Up and Down buttons.
5. PRESTO

I haven't used adb cuz i havent been able to set it up. But i have flashed Damaged control succesfully by mounting the zip on the sd card. i flashed it a couple times since ive tried installing Nexus one launcher by flashing from sd card but nothing just messed up rosie. i couldnt restore my older Rom it kept telling me use adb. Fail lol but i flashed damage control 2.05 back and working fine maybe faster. What i want to know is how to get the nandroid restore fixed or working for emergencies.
alt f4 fixes it all
huh? Confused..
he was trying to be "smart" and gave you a bogus answer if you combo press alt + F4 it will exit your screen... Not really sure what your question is though if you are asking as to why your Nandroid won't restore properly it's because you have to "wipe" your cache before doing a nandroid if you are going back to a version that is different than the currently flashed rom. Hope this helps if not then ... perhaps you could re-phrase your question.

The only way I fixed that is by running the nandroid restore through adb like it says to do. I don't understand how you don't have adb installed but you have the phone rooted? I had to get all that working to root my phone and having adb is an invaluable tool anyway.
I did read that the nandroid error sometime comes up when the sdcard is too full so you could see if that is the case. Also, as someone suggested you could try a factory reset/wipe and then try again to nandroid through recovery.

Yup,i don't even have a pc (seriously I don't)
I did run into this problem though, not sure exactly what I did but it worked itself out, maybe try flashing a different recovery image,Or try keeping phone plugged into charger(not sure what significance that has but it did seem to go for me after I was having those problems) which recovery image do you have?
Did you rename the Nandroid backup you were trying to restore to? If you did, and the file name has a space in it, it will tell you to restore via ADB. Just a thought from the limited info you provided.
I had this problem and it fixed itself out and all i did was wipe everything thats under the wipe option in recovery and it worked for me.
Yeah it was actually the cache you guys were right. i did it on my own and thought that might be it. and now i know that was it from checkin the thread. yeah i used pre kitchen to auto root my phone. im actually running damage control 2.05 now the newest sprint leak.damn i love it lol. but imma reflash it cuz i tried to flash a nexus theme/ no luck i want a nexus one interface!!!!!

Won't boot in what way? Can you get into fastboot and/or recovery? Since you're asking about CWM, I'm assuming you can get into it.
If you did a Nandroid backup (the main point of CWM for me), you could try just restoring it. If you didn't, I'd try a wipe all settings and then reboot. You should be able to get back to a virgin state on the main OS that way.
I can get into it, the problem is i erase all data on my phone. Thanks in advance!
???
Is there any way i can get my phone back up and running restoring everything from clockworkmod?

I'm still confused what your problem is.
You say the phone won't boot, but then you talk about erased data.
What exactly did you do to the phone? What was the last few things you did before you "broke" it?
What happens when you try to boot the phone (ie., it's powered off and you press the power button)? How far in the boot process does it go?
If your problem is that the phone boots but all your data is gone, there's no way to get back unless it auto-syncs down from Google, or you used a backup program like Titanium, or you made a nandroid backup in CWM.
If you made a nandroid, you should just be able to boot into CWM, select backup and restore and then restore your backup.
This is what happened....
I tried to replace my fonts in system that are supposed to work on a different phone. Then when i tried to boot up the phone was stuck on the silver google logo. Now, after that i went into clock work recovery and formated everything in the mounts and storage menu. After reinstalling the phones boot img, my phone freezes at the google logo. I can still get into the clockworkmod recovery. I never backed it up, but tried to use a nandroid someone posted online but i get a md5 mismatch.
Again, thank you for all your help!

Known issue. There is a thread in the Development section(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884499). The OTA "broke root."
Ouch. Now I understand.
In the future, always make a nandroid backup before messing around with things, easiest way to recover.
I see you're looking for help in this thread. Maybe they can help you.
You could also try flashing Doc's or Paul's roms also in that section.

Did you wipe/factory reset before attempting to install? I realize that you're pretty much wiped at the moment, but always best to start with that.

The custom rom? No, you just go into recovery, wipe/factory reset, install from SD card, then navigate to where you put the .zip on the SD card.
I see you did try the 2.3.1 NAND backup in the development section. Try downloading it again on your PC, unzip it, then place the new folder on the clockworkmod's backup folder on your SD card. Again, do not rename it.

Be warned that if you do get the NAND to restore, you may lose clockwork recovery. I know I did when I first tried to use it.
Don't panic though, because you can fastboot flash clockwork back on from the bootloader.

because i have no shame, i'll admit it. this is my second root ever. first was on my droid 2 r2d2 to remove the crap that wasnt necessary.
using this tutorial, just google samsung continuum froyo, and its on addictive tips. I followed the directions properly.
Basically, I used odin3 with a custom froyo rom, i did everything correctly, and i began to use titanium backup to remove some bloatware. what i removed was the GO Launcher stuff and now my homescreen is just a black screen. I've tried using recovery mode and restored that way. i've done that 10+ times. i cant get to any apps, only pressing the bottom ticker to access my text messages and notifications slide down bar. thats it. no apps. at all. can someone tell me how to revert back to the original software? then i will re-root again and this time NOT remove anything. or someone can show me properly how to remove it.
thanks. itll help a lot!
Go launcher (in most roms for the continuum) the ONLY launcher installed so when you got rid of it with TiB you screwed the whole UI. Try booting into Recovery wipe data fact reset wipe cache. then reboot. pull battery reflash on odin, make sure repartition is unchecked. let it reboot. should be back to normal.
can you explain that in a different way. i tried wiping in recovery mode it didnt work
Are you using <2e> recovery (samsung stock) or CwM?
You removed the launcher, this is why. You probably deleted a file called TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
You have a few options now, do you have CWM installed? If so go download another rom, put it on your sdcard some how then install it. It will save you much time and you don’t have to remove the bloat as it’s already removed.
If you aren’t familiar with CWM(clock work recovery) I would suggest researching it s you will be dealing a lot with it.
I would recommend reflashing via odin so that you have all files again. If you want to get rid of bloat, install nuckin or eco07-clean they both are good basic roms. I am currently working on a rom which is called miunia it is as minimalistic as I can make it. It is still in beta forms but it can be installed through odin. If you want the launcher I suggest flashing one of mine for the time being..

if you deleted the actual file, just rebooting the phone won't fix the issue. you will have to replace the launcher or factory reset.
For future reference, another option is to get on android market from your computer and download a launcher. It will send it to your phone and install automatically. Then, when you hit the home button, it should run the launcher.

I wanted to root my phone and my wife's so that we could use the wifi tether built into the phone. I followed the directions for the OneClick Root and Recovery (worked fantastically, thanks guys!!) And then installed the wifi tether. v3.1beta6 also works great by the way!!
Of course then I did something stupid. When I found that the market didn't work I ran an app called Eris Market Fix that another android site said worked for GalaxyS phones. Now my phone (not dumb enough to test it on the wife's first) will not turn un or boot fully. I get the Samsung Mobile screen and then it goes dark and gives the Force Close single--double vibration and repeats.
Can I fix this or is my phone finished? Once I do, how do I get the market to work on both?

Have you tried clearing cache and dalvik cache in clockwork?
Sent from my SPH-D700
also, it's impossible to say for sure at this point, but i highly doubt u did anything permanent to your phone. worst case scenario, u may just end up starting over from scratch...
and maybe try what ^ac suggested before restoring your nandroid backup, sometimes clearing cache and dalvik can help a LOT!!! but it also has to be done from inside clockwork mod recovery.
Bricking is when the phone is literally a brick, no power, no lights, no nothing. I prefer Sponged for this condition. As a last resort if you have no backup (shame) and clearing dalvik and cache don't work, do a Factory Data reset and it will delete any third party apps and data. You will need to set your phone back up but if you have been saving your contacts on Google and not your phone you will get them back when you sign in to gmail.
Right. I have no backup that I'm aware of since I only did the three things listed above. I've seen where it says to use adb for stuff like this, but I do not know where or how to access that. When I plug my phone in to the computer via usb though it says adb found.
I know that clockwork and other were installed but where do I find them?
Edit: So clockwork was found through the vol down, power, camera reboot attempt, so now I know where to make a backup from next time. *embarrassed* Haven't messed with computers like this for years.
dalvik and cache wiped. no change.
Wipe and factory reset (with sd card removed) no change.
Samsung Mobile.com
then black screen and single vibrate
pause and (sorry) triple vibrate
repeat ad nauseum.

Clockwork is your recovery, you access this by 3-finger booting into recovery.
You first turn your phone off wait till its off for sure then you power the phone on by holding the volume down button the camera button, and the power button until the menu shows up.

At this point you will need to Odin your phone back to its original condition. Go into Development sub-forum and at the top in the stickies is a thread called how to fix a semi-bricked Epic. Hi everyone! I recently decided to install the 4.4.2 rom on my Galaxy Note 3 N9005 and I didn't like it because it obviously was buggy as ,entioned in the thread. So I wanted to go back to my nandroid backup which I had made before installing the rom. It all went right in CWM and no errors, so I rebooted my phone and got stuck at the glowing samsung logo, so after many fixes and things I tried which didn't work I flashed a pre-rooted stock rom for it and it all went well. I managed to restore to my nandroid finally and then I unlock my phone to find a "com.google.process.gapps has been stopped" message which wont go away when I tap "OK". It just comes back and gives me one second untill it comes back again. I really need help since I need my phone for work, I have tried reinstalling all the gapps, wont work, I have tried reflashing the stock rom and restoring my nandroid again, I have tried deactivating "Downloads" in the app manager but that wont fix it either and finally I have tried clearing the "app data" for all my apps but again, no luck. If anyone would be able to help me I would appriciate it very much. Thanks in advance!
You're probably gonna have to go back to complete stock. Grab your stock image and flash via odin, boot it up and see if it gives you the error without installing custom recovery and your backup. That way you'll know where the error lays.

Forgot to mention but when I return to complete stock there isn't such a message, only when I restore to my nandroid. I also tried restoring from an older backup which I had made like 2 months ago and the same problem remains, "com.google" message is still there. Any suggestions or should I just start over?

Sounds like a dodgy backup or it somehow got corrupted, I'd start over to save any headaches for future reference -- It's a headache I know, but safer I think. You could hang five, see if anyone else chimes in with any other ideas though

A nandroid backup is simple but monolithic. Most people also use Titanium Backup for the ability to restore selective stuff, or to restore to a completely different model of phone.
I had same issue
Bith titanium and nandroid restore.
Well only way to save your self. Completing wizard of first startup with feeling google..
And just restore user apps and data with titanium except google stuff..
This is the only healthy restore method so far i know that gapss.com keeps kool

So I somehow managed to go to settings and disable Play Services with the one second time line that I had before the message appears again, and the message stopped. So it must be something with Play Services. Since i'm new to android (and the Note 3 is my first android phone) I want to ask if there is a way to maybe reinstall Plaay Services?

Hi, there! I just got almost the same issue like you. Once update to custom 4.4.2, any nandroid backups which worked right before getting GAPPS' FC constantly. :crying: Try double wipes, flash 4.3 gapps full package, stop&restart android download, uninstall google play store update, etc. nothing can fix it. Only way stop the popup error, is flash stock rom. But, consequently, lose root access, even with the same method that rooted the stock rom before. I'll heard some guy said the 4.4.2 has different partition from 4.3 or older android rom. But don't mention how to restore the old partition way. So, hope anyone can help us out, thanks a lot.
